The Villain Has A Yuri Halo [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 36
The city wasn’t very busy, but to Fang Yihan, who hadn’t been home for a long time, it was full of childhood memories that were worth more than gold.
It was her second day back. Fang Yihan looked up at the gloomy clouds. It would probably start raining soon. The bone-chilling cold made her exhale a puff of white air.
“Little sister, why are you standing outside in a daze? Aren’t you cold?”
Her sister, Fang Wenxiu, who had been walking ahead, saw Fang Yihan standing still at the hospital entrance, lost in thought.
Fang Wenxiu was a few years older than her, with a gentle face and a reserved personality. She was more like their late mother. From a young age, Fang Wenxiu had been taking care of her younger siblings. The three of them had relied on each other to grow up.
“Sister, you should go back and get a good night’s sleep.”
Fang Wenxiu didn’t want her little sister to suffer. She and her brother, Fang Qinglie, already owed her a favor. Fang Wenxiu shook her head. She said with a worried look, “I know this hospital better than you. Don’t try to take over. Besides, your cooking is so good; your brother and I look forward to you bringing us food every day.”
Fang Yihan knew that her sister’s compliments were a little exaggerated. She wasn’t that amazing, but her siblings were the only ones who could compliment her without a second thought.
She couldn’t help but laugh. “Sister, please don’t say that in front of other people. It makes me blush.”
Fang Wenxiu laughed and lovingly stroked Fang Yihan’s hair. She said softly, “My little sister is amazing. Why can’t I brag about you?”
Fang Yihan shyly tugged on her arm, asking her to lower her voice. It would be too embarrassing if anyone heard them.
“Little Assistant!”
Just then, a woman in a black leather jacket came from the elevator. She scanned the crowd, and her eyes landed on the two sisters.
Her gaze passed over Fang Wenxiu’s face. She thought to herself, Ordinary-looking but with an elegant face. Women from poor backgrounds but with good looks always face this kind of danger.
The thought that this whole ordeal was caused by a rich playboy’s dirty mind made the woman frown in disgust.
“Miss She.”
Fang Yihan didn’t have to turn around to know who was calling her. The only person who would call her “Little Assistant” at the hospital was She Huan.
She smiled and looked at She Huan with gratitude. The woman in front of her brought back memories of yesterday.
Fang Yihan had just gotten off the plane and, as Li Ju had instructed, nervously called She Huan. To her surprise, She Huan was already waiting for her at the airport.
The woman introduced herself. Fang Yihan understood her relationship with Li Ju. She Huan had once invested in a show. It was just a small passion project for a rich girl like her; whether she made money or not didn’t matter. But with Li Ju’s participation, the show became an overnight sensation and a box office hit. Even now, people still rave about the mystery show.
The show was filmed in this city. She Huan had gone to the set with the director to watch Li Ju film.
The moment She Huan saw Li Ju in character, she knew her investment would pay off!
Her gut feeling was right. She Huan made a fortune.
The investment had also caused her father to favor her more over his illegitimate son, as She Huan was far more capable.
And so, she and Li Ju became good friends. Even though She Huan’s family business wasn’t in Fang Yihan’s city, her connections made it easy to deal with a few thugs.
So, that very night, She Huan drove Fang Yihan to see the rich playboy. She was already ruthless, and when the man started rambling nonsense, She Huan didn’t hesitate to smash a wine bottle over his head.
Fang Yihan couldn’t calm down that night. It was the first time she had ever hit someone.
She Huan’s fierceness had rubbed off on Fang Yihan. She hated that disgusting man with all her heart.
The man’s selfishness had almost ruined her family. How could Fang Yihan have stayed calm?
Hitting him was letting him off easy!
But she didn’t tell her family about this. That night, when She Huan took her to the hospital, her sister, Fang Wenxiu, saw a few drops of blood on her sleeve and thought Fang Yihan had been hurt.
At the time, Fang Yihan had sweetly comforted her sister, which earned her a teasing look from She Huan.
Their silent agreement made Fang Yihan feel closer to She Huan, no longer feeling nervous around her.
Fang Yihan remembered how good it felt to hit that man that night and looked at her right hand. To deal with evil, you had to fight fire with fire.
She pushed the man out of her mind and held up the thermos bag. Fang Yihan said to She Huan, “Miss She, I made your favorite braised shrimp today.”
She Huan’s face lit up. She gave Fang Yihan a thumbs-up. “My little assistant is so thoughtful. How about I double your salary? You can leave Li Ju and be my personal assistant.”
Li Ju had no idea her friend was trying to steal her assistant. Fang Yihan shook her head seriously. “Miss She, I am loyal to Sister Ju. I will not leave her.”
She Huan laughed. It wasn’t the first time she had tried to poach her. At first, Fang Yihan was nervous and didn’t know how to refuse. But then she realized that She Huan was just messing with her, so she was now able to reject her calmly.
“Fine. If my little assistant doesn’t want to, I won’t force her. Li Ju is so lucky to have found such a cute little assistant. I’m so jealous.”
Their short time together had made She Huan realize how special Fang Yihan was. She really was interesting. She looked soft and harmless, but the way she hit that man completely defied her appearance. With tears in her eyes, she was still cold-blooded and hit people. No wonder Li Ju called her specifically about Fang Yihan. Who wouldn’t feel for her?
Li Ju had told She Huan that this was her friend and that she needed to be treated well and her problem handled with care. So, She Huan had gone to the airport early just for her.
Fang Yihan corrected her. “You’re wrong, Miss She. I’m the one who’s lucky to have met Sister Ju. If it wasn’t for Sister Ju, I wouldn’t have met you. You are both my benefactors.”
She Huan quickly waved her hands. “There’s no need to call us benefactors. We’re all friends just helping each other out. If you call me that, you’re insulting Li Ju and I’s friendship. If you really want to thank me, make me a good meal when I see Li Ju again.”
Fang Wenxiu spoke up before Fang Yihan could. She said seriously, “Miss She, if you hadn’t helped us, our family would have been torn apart. This kindness, I…”
She Huan stopped her. She said with a helpless smile, “I know what you want to say, but you really don’t have to feel like you owe me anything. If you want to thank me, you can be my assistant. If your sister is so great, you must be, too. It’s decided, and you can’t change your mind.”
She Huan took her portion of the lunch and left quickly, afraid that Fang Yihan and her sister would try to thank her again.
Fang Yihan giggled, looking at her fleeing back.
“Sister, I told you. Sister Ju is so nice, so her friends must be nice, too.”
Fang Wenxiu hugged Fang Yihan’s shoulder, saying thankfully, “Yes, we met good people.”
Fang Yihan and Li Ju had been apart for two days. Fang Yihan had been so busy she hadn’t had much time to talk to Li Ju, but their conversations were brief. Even without her presence, Fang Yihan felt her everywhere.
Was I missing her?
Did she feel the same way?
For some reason, she felt that Li Ju was very, very close to her.
Was it just my imagination?
*******
“Excuse me, are you a reincarnated hungry ghost? I made this for my little assistant, and it’s all gone after I took one phone call?”
The woman across from her wore a gray baseball cap, her face was beautiful and delicate.
Li Ju leisurely drank her tea. She smiled. “I’m sorry. I was too hungry. I couldn’t help myself.”
She Huan scoffed, and said with a knowing look, “Were you jealous? It makes total sense for a possessive person like you to eat my lunch.”
“You didn’t tell Fang Yihan I was here, did you?”
She Huan, confused, sat down next to her and asked, “What’s with all the secrecy? You came all the way to the hospital but you didn’t see her? What are you doing?”
When she asked this, Li Ju’s eyebrows raised slightly. She smiled, but her eyes were cold. “Someone wanted to secretly see Fang Yihan. As her employer, of course I have to get to the bottom of it.”
She Huan rolled her eyes. “Anyone who didn’t know you would think you were her master, needing your permission to see her. You’re insane.”
Li Ju ignored her friend’s teasing. She finished eating and put on her mask, which startled She Huan. “Where are you going, big star?”
“Just taking a stroll.”
“Why don’t you just say you’re going to see your little assistant? Why the secrecy?”
Li Ju had come to the hospital today to see Fang Yihan. Her manager had told her that Long Jing’an was also in the city. The moment Li Ju heard that, she knew she had to stop Long Jing’an from getting to Fang Yihan first.
So, she came.
Li Ju walked with her hands in her pockets. Her relaxed posture made She Huan smile with interest. “The story just got a lot more interesting.”
The sky started to rain, and the wet road quickly turned into a layer of ice.
******
A car drove by. In the passenger seat, Long Jing’an’s face was tired. He had been so busy lately, but he hadn’t forgotten about Fang Yihan. Especially when he saw Li Ju’s post, he felt like she was making a claim. The old and new grudges combined, making Long Jing’an feel even more anxious.
“Jing’an, we came here to film this show without Sister Cai’s knowledge. We’re going to get an earful when we get back.”
“I’ve already been yelled at by Sister Cai at the airport,” Long Jing’an said with a blank expression. “The contract is signed. There’s nothing she can do but yell at me.”
His assistant was a man of few words, but he was honest and dependable. He was tall and burly. Long Jing’an didn’t have any particular opinion about who his assistant was. The person he wanted most had already been “stolen” by Li Ju, so it didn’t matter who his assistant was now.
“Jing’an, where are we going?” The assistant hesitated for a moment before asking.
“To see a friend,” Long Jing’an said simply.
“But…”
“No buts. This trip was arranged on a whim. The fans won’t find out. Besides, with this disguise, no one will recognize me. Just stop being so negative.”
“Okay, okay,” the assistant said meekly.
Long Jing’an closed his eyes to rest while his assistant reluctantly followed the GPS to the hospital.
He used to be so eager to become famous and change his life, but why did he feel so exhausted after he finally achieved it? He couldn’t even protect the person he wanted most and had to watch Fang Yihan become Li Ju’s assistant.
Long Jing’an hated being trapped. He wanted to break down the walls around him, but he didn’t know how.
His confusion grew, and it led him to impulsively accept the offer to be on a new variety show, simply because it was filming in the same city as Fang Yihan.
He felt like it was an opportunity. Long Jing’an had just found out that something had happened to Fang Yihan’s family when he received the director’s invitation. He felt it was a sign from God.
“Jing’an, we’re at the hospital.” Long Jing’an’s eyes snapped open. He adjusted his bangs and fake hair in the car’s mirror. The wig almost completely covered his eyebrows. With a pair of black-rimmed glasses, he looked like a normal, everyday guy as he walked into the hospital.
He didn’t want his assistant to follow him. A big guy like that would only attract attention. It was better to go alone.
Long Jing’an calmly got into the elevator, which quickly took him to the sixth floor. He followed the crowd outside.
He looked around and finally found her.
Long Jing’an pushed the door open naturally. Fang Yihan, who was peeling a grapefruit, looked up. The calmness in her eyes was instantly replaced with panic. She nervously looked around and, seeing that no one had recognized Long Jing’an, she pretended to go outside.
Fang Wenxiu saw Fang Yihan’s strange expression and looked at the young man at the door. She said thoughtfully, “If you have something to do, go ahead. I’ll stay here at the hospital.”
“Sister, I’ll be right back.”
Like a gust of wind, she pushed Long Jing’an toward an empty stairwell. Fang Yihan looked at the door behind them and lowered her voice. “Jing’an, why are you here? Does Sister Cai know?”
Long Jing’an’s eyes behind his glasses were full of confusion. He asked, “Yihan, why aren’t you calling me ‘Senior Brother’ anymore?”
Fang Yihan didn’t understand why a simple change in address would bother Long Jing’an. She replied casually, “What’s wrong with calling you Jing’an? I’m not a trainee anymore, so it’s not appropriate to call you ‘Senior Brother’.”
Long Jing’an frowned. He was so biased against Li Ju that he blamed her for everything. He said resentfully, “It must be Li Ju’s doing. It’s not surprising that a woman like her would do something like that!”
The gentleness in Fang Yihan’s eyes disappeared. She said angrily, “Jing’an, aren’t you being a little too much? It’s just a name. Is it worth getting so upset over?”
Her attitude made Long Jing’an feel like his guess was right. He sneered and looked at Fang Yihan. “Of course it is. She told you to change, and you did. You chose her and abandoned me!”
Fang Yihan felt that Long Jing’an’s anger was completely out of place. She didn’t understand, but considering their past friendship, she softened her voice. She said, “You’re my friend. How could I abandon you? I’m so surprised you came all the way to the hospital. I know this means you care about me and see me as a good friend, but this is too risky. If someone finds out you’re here, there will be all sorts of rumors about you.”
“I don’t care about that! I just wanted to see you today. Are you saying I shouldn’t have come?” Long Jing’an was stuck in a corner. No matter what Fang Yihan said, he had a reason to argue with her.
He felt that his good intentions were being rejected by Fang Yihan. He was willing to do anything to see her, but what did Fang Yihan do? She only rejected him!
The word “friend” seemed to sting Long Jing’an. He sneered, “Do you really see me as a friend? I tried so hard to get Sister Cai to let you stay so I could get you famous. I’m not a nobody anymore. I can get you more popularity. But what did you do? You betrayed me.”
Fang Yihan’s eyes widened in disbelief. She never thought her choice would be seen as a betrayal by Long Jing’an.
She composed herself and explained calmly, “It’s not what you think. I don’t have a strong desire to be famous. I just want a job where I feel secure. Besides, it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to be your assistant. You just debuted and your popularity is at its peak. I can’t cause you any trouble. We’re friends, and I want you to have a smoother career. It’s my fault for not explaining it clearly. Don’t be mad. It’s my fault.”
“Friends? I don’t want to be friends. Why do you think I tried so hard to convince Sister Cai to let you stay? It’s because I like you! I want to be with you every day. Do you understand? Fang Yihan, I like you!”
Long Jing’an grabbed Fang Yihan’s shoulders and said what was on his mind. He was all in now.
He stared at Fang Yihan, his voice full of anger. “Because I like you, do you know how angry I was when Li Ju ‘stole’ you? I even thought you would refuse her, but I don’t understand why you agreed. It’s my fault. My popularity is nothing compared to hers. Yihan, have you ever considered that she didn’t want you because you were so great, but because she wanted me!”
Fang Yihan’s dazed expression made Long Jing’an’s heart ache. He steeled himself and said in a low voice, “Did you forget about Li Ju’s obsession with me? You’re the only woman by my side, so do you think she would let you stay? She took you to get rid of you. It had nothing to do with your cooking. She had so many assistants to choose from. Why did she choose you? Didn’t you ever think about that?”
His confession had shocked Fang Yihan, but her focus quickly shifted to the woman he was talking about, Li Ju.
Fang Yihan never thought of herself as someone special.
But at that moment, she resented her own mediocrity.
In her heart, a voice was vehemently denying Long Jing’an’s words. But Fang Yihan’s mind was in turmoil when she thought of Li Ju.
She had barely heard Li Ju mention Long Jing’an in the past month. The Li Ju she knew was resilient and strong. Whether it was filming in the snow or getting into a drinking contest to scare Xiao Yajun, she was completely different from the love-struck Li Ju from the rumors. She had become accustomed to the dominant and powerful Li Ju. Now, when she heard Long Jing’an talk about their entanglements, Fang Yihan felt a pang in her chest, a wound that was too painful to heal.
Fang Yihan pushed Long Jing’an away. Her face was blank, but there was a coldness that Long Jing’an didn’t understand.
She said, “Whatever reason Sister Ju had for keeping me, that’s her business. It has nothing to do with me. All I know is that she’s been happy with me, and she accepted me.”
“Accepted you? Yihan, stop lying to yourself. I told you, she did it for me. She wants my attention. Why else would she want a rookie with no experience? Is she a philanthropist? Stop being so naive.”
Fang Yihan suddenly looked up. “For you? Did she contact you at all? Did she mention you on the show? No. I’m with her all the time. I know her better than you do!”
“What’s the point of saying all this? You’re just an assistant. What can she do for you?” Long Jing’an realized something was wrong. Fang Yihan was defending Li Ju too much. This wasn’t a normal reaction. It was a kind of special devotion.
Fang Yihan sighed and looked Long Jing’an in the eye. “Jingan, we can only be friends. I don’t like you. If you think my choosing Sister Ju was a betrayal, then that’s what it is. I have nothing else to say.”
Fang Yihan’s cold rejection made Long Jing’an’s eyes fix on her. He said furiously, “Fang Yihan, you did betray me! You betrayed me for Li Ju!”
Fang Yihan’s cool gaze made Long Jing’an’s mind spin. “Don’t involve Li Ju in our business. Even without Li Ju, I wouldn’t have stayed.”
She walked past Long Jing’an, then stopped. “Thank you for coming to see my brother.”
She left him alone in the stairwell.
He punched the wall in anger, trying to release his frustration.
When he put on his mask and walked out, he saw a woman sitting on a bench against the wall.
She lifted the brim of her cap, revealing a pair of beautiful eyes that he would never forget.
Long Jing’an froze. He remembered those eyes. They belonged to Li Ju.
“Why are you here?”
Li Ju laughed. “I’ve been here for a while. It’s just that my little assistant didn’t notice me.”
She got up gracefully and walked in front of Long Jing’an. Li Ju looked at him with a look of pity and said in a low voice, “You look so pathetic after your confession failed. Good thing I was here. No one came to this stairwell. But I heard everything. You keep saying Fang Yihan betrayed you, but do you know that she was bullied because of you? You don’t. That’s why you’re so selfish, thinking that her being your assistant was a gift.”
Li Ju tilted her chin arrogantly. She said with disdain, “Stop trying to mess with my person. I may be love-struck, but I can also turn my back on people.”
She leaned in closer to Long Jing’an. “Don’t forget who made you famous.”
Her red lips curved in a smile as she enjoyed Long Jing’an’s anger.
At that moment, her villainous character was perfectly on point!
“I’m going to find my little assistant. Goodbye.”
“Oh, by the way, my little assistant owes me a huge favor now. She’s even less likely to leave me.”
