- The Venomous Wife Let Me Go
- Chapter 5 - What to Do When My Wife Loves Me Too Much (Part 5)
It took Bai Jun a while to calm down enough to take a shower.
Even though bathing was still somewhat strenuous for her, the thought of Lin Song waiting outside made her hurry through it.
“I’m done!”
While getting dressed, Bai Jun let out a relieved sigh and called out to the door, “Wife! You can go take care of your own things, I can manage.”
Lin Song didn’t respond.
Bai Jun didn’t think much of it. She realized that dressing herself was still a challenge her limbs were stiff and uncooperative, and it took her a long time to finally get her clothes on properly.
When she pushed open the bathroom door, fresh air rushed in, and her eyes met Lin Song’s gaze.
Lin Song seemed to have been waiting outside the whole time.
Her lips were slightly pursed, her cheeks still faintly flushed, her entire body tense. The moment she looked at Bai Jun, there seemed to be flickering sparks in her dark eyes.
Bai Jun’s steps faltered Lin Song appeared normal at a glance, yet something about her sent an involuntary chill down Bai Jun’s spine.
It felt eerily similar to being caught doing something wrong under her mother’s watchful eye.
But when she looked again, Lin Song was back to her usual gentle self.
“You took so long, I was getting worried,” Lin Song said softly, stepping forward to support Bai Jun’s arm and gazing up at her with a clingy expression. “I’m glad you’re okay.”
Lin Song’s voice was tight, as if she had been genuinely frightened.
Her wife was really too timid!
Bai Jun sighed inwardly, patting her delicate, nervous wife’s arm. Sensing Lin Song’s unease, she softened her voice further. “Don’t worry, I just moved a little slower because my limbs are stiff. It’s really nothing serious.”
Lin Song gave a quiet “Mm,” keeping her head lowered and avoiding Bai Jun’s eyes, though her voice still sounded a bit strained. “As long as you’re okay.”
She carefully helped Bai Jun back to the hospital bed, treating her as though she were a fragile porcelain doll.
Bai Jun tried her best to suppress it, but the corners of her lips still curled up uncontrollably.
Ah! Her wife really cared about her so much!
No wonder everyone wanted a wife this feeling of being someone’s top priority was downright intoxicating!
To prove she was now capable of taking care of herself, Bai Jun decided to pull up the blanket on her own.
She reached for it, but just as she was about to tug it up, Lin Song’s hand pressed down on her wrist.
“Wife?”
Bai Jun looked up in confusion.
Her skin was flawless, and after her shower, her cheeks were tinged with a soft flush. Her dark, bright eyes made her look unusually delicate, a side of her that wasn’t usually visible.
Lin Song glanced at her before quickly letting go, her lashes fluttering. “You, your top two buttons are undone.”
?!
Bai Jun looked down and realized that, at some point, the top two buttons of her shirt had come loose, revealing a hint of what lay beneath.
She must have been exposed the whole way here.
No wonder Lin Song had kept her head down earlier!
Bai Jun swallowed hard, mechanically fastening the buttons. She knew she should have felt embarrassed, but Lin Song seemed even more flustered than she was.
With that comparison, Bai Jun suddenly didn’t feel awkward anymore.
Besides, Lin Song’s ears were completely red, and her flustered expression was just too adorable.
“Wife, you’re so cute!” Bai Jun gulped, unable to resist the urge to tease Lin Song a little. She reached out and playfully pinched Lin Song’s ear.
True to form, Lin Song reacted like a startled deer her eyes widening, the tips of her ears burning red.
“We’re already married, why are you still so shy!”
Meeting Lin Song’s gaze, Bai Jun couldn’t help but laugh.
She wasn’t a child anymore. Back when she was seven or eight, her mother had already explained some basic physiological facts to her. She knew that partners did very intimate things together.
But still…
Bai Jun couldn’t help feeling a little awkward: her mother had only explained how things worked between a man and a woman. She had no idea about the dynamics between two women.
Secretly, she made up her mind when she got the chance in the future, she would definitely study up on the subject. Her mother had once said that intimacy was very important in a marriage, though she hadn’t elaborated much, only adding that Bai Jun would understand when she grew up.
At the time, Bai Jun had scoffed. Her mother’s bashful expression had clearly been triggered by thoughts of her father, and anything related to him instinctively repelled Bai Jun.
Now that she was older, though she still only had a vague understanding, she didn’t feel the same disgust as before because now, her wife was Lin Song. She was willing to learn whatever it took to make Lin Song happy.
Still, even knowing she was an adult now, the topic was undeniably risqué. As she spoke, Bai Jun’s cheeks burned, and she couldn’t help but lower her head.
But then it struck her she was the domineering CEO here! She couldn’t show weakness in front of her wife. So Bai Jun lifted her head again.
Her eyes met Lin Song’s.
For a split second, Lin Song’s gaze looked strange.
Bai Jun’s eyes widened. Lin Song seemed like a starving beast, and she herself was the juiciest prey caught in its claws!
But when she looked again, Lin Song had already lowered her head.
Her entire body was taut as a bowstring, as if the slightest touch would make her snap,
“Jun Jun, I can’t take teasing.”
She took a deep breath and spoke softly, her tone even sounding a little gritted.
Her wife’s flustered reaction was so adorable!
Bai Jun stifled a laugh but didn’t dare say it out loud. Lin Song was easily embarrassed, and she didn’t want to actually upset her.
“You’re just too cute, I couldn’t help it!”
She offered a sweet remark, but when she caught Lin Song giving her that complicated look again, she quickly straightened her expression. “This time, it’s my fault.”
“Once I’m better, I’ll make it up to you, whatever you want!”
“Between the two of us, I’m the one who owes you more. What’s there to make up for?”
Lin Song sighed, reverting to her usual gentle and composed demeanor in front of Bai Jun. But then, as if remembering something, her eyes flickered, and she paused before changing her tone:
“But Jun Jun seems genuinely eager to make it up to me.”
“Then I’ll hold you to it.”
She narrowed her eyes slightly, the corners of her lips curling up. “I hope Jun Jun keeps her promise in the future.”
“Of course I’m sincere! Don’t worry, I’ll keep my word.”
Bai Jun guessed that Lin Song probably wanted something likely some jewelry or other material possessions. But if such things could make her wife happy, Bai Jun was more than willing to indulge her.
Instantly, Lin Song’s smile brightened even more.
“Jun Jun always spoils me like this. One day, you’ll regret it.”
She sighed faintly, as if about to move away from the bedside. Before Bai Jun could deliver her domineering CEO line. “Of course I’ll spoil my own wife!” Lin Song leaned in again.
Soft lips brushed against Bai Jun’s cheek, fleeting as a whisper.
“But it’s too late for regrets now, Jun Jun is mine!”
Lin Song’s hair cascaded down, blocking Bai Jun’s view and obscuring the determined glint in her eyes.
?!
Bai Jun felt like her entire mind had short-circuited! Her eyes widened, her thoughts a tangled mess.
“I really, really like Jun Jun.”
Her adorable little wife lifted her head again, her face flushed as if about to drip with color, her sparkling eyes fixed on Bai Jun as she continued her confession,
“I want to hide Jun Jun away, so only I can see you.”
“But even more than that, I hope Jun Jun can always be as happy as you are now.”
Lin Song’s eyes shimmered with emotion.
Bai Jun swallowed hard, wanting to say something, but her mind was screaming in chaos.
She kissed me! She kissed me.
Her face burning, Bai Jun couldn’t think of a single coherent response. Her limbs stiffened like a puppet’s, and she could only tense up and whisper back, “Me too.”
She didn’t dare look at Lin Song anymore because in that moment, she realized she desperately wanted to be close to her too.
Because of her mother’s influence, she had always looked down on clingy couples, believing she’d grow up to be a cool, independent woman. But now, she suddenly understood when you like someone, you can’t help but want to stick to them, to be intoxicated by their scent.
But she couldn’t get close to Lin Song right now. She still had no strength, and she was afraid Lin Song would notice her weakness.
As a proud and domineering CEO, that was absolutely unacceptable.
Fortunately, Lin Song didn’t seem bothered by her somewhat cold reaction. Bai Jun’s simple “Me too” made her beam with joy.
“I know Jun Jun doesn’t like me that much yet,” Lin Song’s beautiful eyes, now free of their earlier hesitation, shone brightly. “But it’s okay. Even if Jun Jun only likes me a little, that’s enough.”
“I’ll work even harder in the future to make you like me more and more.”
“From now on, we’ll live well together, forget all the unhappy things, and no one will ever separate us.”
Lin Song was still Lin Song, but something had subtly shifted. Bai Jun almost couldn’t bring herself to meet her gaze when she did, that feeling of being preyed upon resurfaced.
Thump thump!
Bai Jun pressed a hand to her chest, her heart racing again.
Her competitive spirit told her she should say something sweet too, but her mind was blank, no romantic words came to her.
“Of course we’ll live well together!”
Not wanting Lin Song to see her flustered state, Bai Jun changed the subject. “But why ‘from now on’? Weren’t we living well before?”
This question had been lingering in her mind all afternoon.
Earlier, Aunt Feng had shown her another one of Lin Song’s films.
Aunt Feng said Lin Song specialized in playing the “white moonlight” archetype those pure, idealized figures in dramas who often died young.
But in this martial arts film, Lin Song’s performance was completely different.
This time, she played a cold, ruthless, and unfeeling character, the top assassin in the martial world, whose only warmth was reserved for her disciple.
Yet, the disciple was tricked into misunderstanding her, and in the end, she died at the hands of the one she trusted most.
When he killed her, the disciple wept uncontrollably. Though injured, her expression remained as cold and detached as ever, like a Buddha untouched by joy or sorrow.
“You weren’t taught this way.”
A flicker of disappointment surfaced in her eyes. Provoked, the disciple, on the verge of collapse, drove his sword through her chest.
A cold-blooded killer is both the most heartless and the purest of beings.
The “white moonlight” Lin Song portrayed wasn’t the stereotypical innocent, naive figure meant only to be beautiful.
These characters had distinct personalities, and bringing them to life convincingly undoubtedly required exceptional acting skills.
Lin Song was breathtakingly beautiful, kind-hearted, and highly capable. Bai Jun couldn’t understand why she always seemed so insecure around him.
“Of course, we were happy before,” Lin Song’s smile appeared flawless. “But back then, you were always the one protecting me. I want to grow stronger too, so I can help and protect you.”
How could she say such sweet things so effortlessly?
But she probably didn’t mean anything by it she was just so fond of him that these words came naturally.
Bai Jun’s cheeks burned. He felt like a shrimp boiled alive in a steamer, utterly at a loss for words.
But Lin Song didn’t seem to expect a response.
“Goodnight, Junjun.”
With a soft laugh, she reached out to smooth his slightly tousled hair, dimmed the bedside lamp, and returned to her work.
Hugging the blanket, Bai Jun couldn’t sleep.
In the dim light, Lin Song, absorbed in her work, looked like a scene from a painting.
Such a beautiful woman was his wife!
His heart swelled with sweetness just seeing Lin Song’s face filled him with endless motivation.
“You aren’t you going to sleep?” As the night deepened and Lin Song showed no sign of stopping, Bai Jun bit his lip and spoke awkwardly.
“Am I disturbing you?” Lin Song glanced up.
Judging by her expression, if he denied it, she’d surely keep working.
Bai Jun hesitated, then nodded, adding, “You don’t have to push yourself so hard. Once I recover, you can leave everything to me.”
“I’ll listen to Junjun.”
Lin Song looked at him, chuckled, and turned off the light.
–
The night was quiet. Lin Song could clearly hear Bai Jun shifting slightly under the covers.
She could almost picture him clutching the blanket, staring at her with those longing eyes.
Just the thought of Bai Jun’s gaze stripped of pretense, warm yet shy made her throat tighten.
She relaxed, closed her eyes, and decided to humor him by pretending to sleep, planning to resume work once he drifted off.
But perhaps because she was enveloped in an unexpected sense of peace and contentment, she dozed off for the first time in forever.
In her dream, the oppressive mountain range stretched endlessly. In the cold drizzle, shivering and hungry, she lagged behind the crowd, her eyes fixed on the girl among them.
The girl shone like a brilliant star, the most beautiful person she had ever seen in her barren life.
Unlike the usual nightmares where she was ignored, this time, the girl’s lovely eyes pierced through the mist and found her.
“Lin Song, I’m here!” She heard the girl’s melodious voice call out.
“I know.”
She let herself step forward and clasped the girl’s hand tightly.
For a long time, she had been like a vicious dog lurking in the shadows, her chest filled with envy and hatred. Now, the gods had granted her the only chance in her wretched, covetous life.
She would cling to it fiercely, never letting go again.
