The Venomous Wife Let Me Go - Chapter 31
“You are mine now!”
After a long while, Lin Song finally wiped away her tears. As she re-bandaged the wound, she glared at her with resentment. “Until I’ve had my fill of revenge, the only one allowed to hurt you is me. Who gave you permission to harm yourself like this?”
Fair enough.
Bai Jun hadn’t expected that her actions would once again spark Lin Song’s anger.
“I’m sorry. I won’t do it again.”
She apologized softly, a deep sense of self-loathing welling up within her. She felt incredibly stupid, as if she couldn’t do anything right. She showed every bit of sincerity for her atonement, following Lin Song’s requirements to the letter, yet Lin Song began glaring at her again.
“Who told you to apologize?” Lin Song’s eyes reddened again. “You didn’t do anything wrong! Don’t just apologize for no reason from now on…”
Fine.
Lin Song was truly acting strange. But since Bai Jun owed her, she let her say whatever she wanted; she had no right to question her.
Bai Jun lowered her head, her mind a weary mess. As she looked at Lin Song, the urge to sleep surfaced once more.
“Look at you—thin, injured, and haggard beyond recognition!” Lin Song seemed unwilling to give her a moment’s peace and began criticizing her appearance again. “Go take a shower!”
Knowing she didn’t look good, Bai Jun obediently took the bathrobe and headed to the bathroom. However, a conflicted Lin Song followed her inside.
“Don’t let the water touch your wound! I’ll help you wash.”
Lin Song truly must hate her; perhaps she was terrified that Bai Jun would run away, so she insisted on watching her even while she bathed.
“I won’t run,” Bai Jun explained gently.
But Lin Song didn’t seem interested in a peaceful conversation and snapped back, “I’m not worried about you running!”
Bai Jun fell silent. She stood before the showerhead, intending to undress, but out of the corner of her eye, she saw Lin Song staring intently at her body. That burning, bright light—as if she wanted to devour her whole—reappeared in Lin Song’s eyes.
Under Lin Song’s gaze, her skin felt like it was on fire. Bai Jun found it impossible to continue undressing.
“Didn’t you say you wanted to atone?” Lin Song gave a light sneer. She took a step closer and spoke sharply, “Hands up!”
Looking at the familiar brilliance in Lin Song’s eyes, Bai Jun trembled slightly. Although they had been intimate before, it had always been in the dark. With the overhead light shining brightly now, she couldn’t mentally prepare herself. But remembering that she was currently atoning—and that she might have done the same thing to Lin Song in the past—Bai Jun closed her eyes and obediently raised her hands.
Lin Song removed Bai Jun’s outer clothing.
Contrary to her harsh tone, Lin Song’s movements were incredibly gentle, taking care not to touch Bai Jun’s wound. Bai Jun could feel Lin Song’s gaze lingering on her, like sparks of fire igniting her body. Even though she knew she shouldn’t care, her skin turned an uncontrollable shade of pink, as if it might burn up at any moment.
Her legs felt weak. She knew Lin Song had always craved her body. If she let her have it today, perhaps Lin Song wouldn’t hate her anymore, right? Then their entanglement would finally end. Lin Song had a bright future ahead of her; there was no need for her to be tied to someone like Bai Jun.
With this thought, Bai Jun bit her lip and numbly continued to reach out, unfastening her underwear…
“You—!”
Lin Song seemed furious and took several deep breaths. But then she fell silent. She abruptly turned her back.
“I’ll be right here. Tell me if you need anything,” Lin Song said stiffly, her voice incredibly hoarse.
“Oh.”
Bai Jun answered simply. For a moment, she couldn’t tell if she felt disappointed or relieved. She washed herself numbly. Her hair was still dripping with water, but she was so exhausted she could barely keep her eyes open.
In a daze, she felt Lin Song wrap her in the bathrobe with a cold, stern face.
“Are you trying to irritate me to death?” She heard Lin Song’s voice through gritted teeth again. Lin Song led her out of the bathroom, brought over a towel and a hairdryer, and began drying her hair, speaking resentfully the whole time.
“Let me guess—do you think that because you have no money left, you can only compensate a ‘money-loving woman’ like me with your body? Do you think once you’ve ‘paid up,’ you can leave with a clear conscience and we can go our separate ways? Is that it?”
“In. Your. Dreams!” Lin Song stared into her eyes, her own eyes red as she spoke each word deliberately. “How could I possibly be satisfied with taking my revenge on your body just once?”
“I—” Looking at Lin Song’s pained expression, Bai Jun felt even more helpless. It was her fault again for making Lin Song angry. She wanted to say “I’m sorry,” but Lin Song seemed to loathe those words.
So, she could only stare at Lin Song silently, trying to see what she wanted her to do.
“Don’t look at me like that.” The aggressive Lin Song met her gaze, but then she abruptly turned her head away, her eyes growing redder. “You… turn around…”
Does she hate me so much she won’t even let me look at her?
Bai Jun blinked, her eyes feeling dry and stinging, but she didn’t want to keep crying. She followed Lin Song’s instructions and silently turned her back, lowering her head.
Lin Song pursed her lips and began drying her hair. Once it stopped dripping, she had Bai Jun rest her head on her lap while she blow-dried it. Bai Jun’s body was incredibly tense at first, but as Lin Song gently massaged her scalp while drying, she gradually relaxed.
As a heavy drowsiness surged, Lin Song fed her two more pills. She swallowed them submissively. Lin Song then stood up and carried her to the bed. Bai Jun wanted to walk herself, feeling she didn’t deserve Lin Song’s care, but she was so tired she literally couldn’t move.
Lin Song’s embrace was incredibly warm. Bai Jun curled up, not daring to move an inch. She was afraid of becoming addicted to this warmth that didn’t belong to her and instinctively trying to seize it again. She had already hurt Lin Song once.
Lin Song laid her on the bed and went into the bathroom to shower. Perhaps the sound of the water was too loud, or perhaps the unfamiliar bed made it hard to adjust, but she felt cold all over as she huddled under the blanket. Her body was exhausted, yet sleep eluded her.
Before long, Lin Song finished her shower. Seeing Bai Jun was still awake, she seemed stunned for a second. She then turned off the light and lay down beside her. After the lights were out, Lin Song turned and held her again. Sensing Bai Jun’s cold, stiff body, Lin Song pulled her tighter. “Still so cold after lying here so long? If you run away, no one will be here to warm your bed for you!”
She wanted to say she was focused on atoning and wouldn’t run, but she figured Lin Song wouldn’t believe a “wicked woman” like her, so she remained silent.
Drowsiness surged again. Although she knew she shouldn’t, Lin Song’s scent made her feel incredibly safe. Her tensed nerves finally relaxed, and a genuine sleepiness washed over her.
But Lin Song seemed unable to sleep, tossing and turning in the bed.
“Will you really not run?”
In the darkness, Lin Song’s voice suddenly rang out. “Then why did you meet with Song Yu? After you saw her, you started selling shares and your house… I thought you were going to go abroad with her.”
“You promised to let me take my revenge to my heart’s content!”
“You owe me so much! If you haven’t paid it back, you absolutely cannot run off with someone else.” When Bai Jun didn’t respond, Lin Song grew anxious again and gave Bai Jun’s ear a resentful little bite. “And I gave you the chance to back out this afternoon.”
“It’s too late to regret it now…”
The moist breath spread from her ear to her entire body. Bai Jun shuddered, barely fending off the sleepiness to give a soft “Mm.” She couldn’t understand why Lin Song was so bothered by her meeting with Song Yu. Perhaps Lin Song just didn’t like the feeling of her “prey” slipping out of her control.
She gave a self-mocking smile and decided to ease Lin Song’s anxiety. However, her brain, clouded by the medication, couldn’t form a logical argument. She simply spoke her thoughts as they came. “I met her because I didn’t want to owe you too much. I wanted to ask her for help finding Manager Bai abroad.”
“Even though you might not believe me—and my heart isn’t exactly a good thing—I still understand the basic respect required in a marriage. As long as you are my wife, I will not be unfaithful.”
She thought for a moment and added, “I didn’t mean to imply anything about you. If you ever want a divorce, just tell me. Or if you want to see your ‘White Moonlight’ during the marriage, I can understand. This marriage wasn’t your choice; I didn’t deserve to marry you. I stole you away; you two are the ones who should be together…”
“What ‘White Moonlight’ are you talking about?”
Lin Song spoke up resentfully and bit her ear again. “Don’t slander me. I’m not like you—so likable without even knowing it.”
“No one would like someone like me.”
Bai Jun fell silent for a moment. She didn’t know where Lin Song got the idea that she was “likable” and didn’t want to think about it. She simply denied it good-naturedly. “I don’t deserve any love, and I don’t want it anymore.”
“I’m sorry. I did something to wrong you again—I peeked at the diary in your study that day. But don’t worry, I won’t do anything to your ‘White Moonlight.’ Besides, even if I wanted to now, I don’t have the financial power…”
Lin Song was probably afraid she would hurt her first love, which was why she refused to admit it.
“So, you read the diary in my study and think I have another ‘White Moonlight’? You want to step aside for her?” Lin Song’s voice sounded calm, but Bai Jun instinctively shuddered. This Lin Song felt like a calm ocean surface hiding a gathering storm.
Bai Jun chose to remain silent.
“You’re certainly generous! Just pushing me away to that ‘White Moonlight’ without even trying to fight for me…”
Lin Song was furious. She took several deep breaths and let out a cold laugh, but she pulled Bai Jun even tighter, interlacing her fingers with Bai Jun’s cold ones.
“You’re not wrong.”
Perhaps finally deciding to be open, she continued in a level tone, “She is the best girl I’ve ever met. She is beautiful, brave, kind, sincere, and handles everything with such responsibility. I like her so much; I’ve dreamed of being with her.”
“But then you ruined her!”
“Now her heart is full of pain. She’s like a startled hedgehog, curled in a corner, refusing to believe anyone in the world could love her.”
“I watched her struggle in confusion, yet I was powerless. The heartache nearly drove me mad. Since you want to compensate me, then find a way with me to bring her back to me.”
Wait… her meaning…
So, in the years I’ve forgotten, I also did something to hurt Lin Song’s ‘White Moonlight’?
Bai Jun’s eyes widened. But remembering her arrogant behavior on the TV show, she wasn’t surprised. A “wicked woman” who did everything bad just to snatch Lin Song away was indeed capable of such things. No wonder Lin Song wanted revenge; she had hurt the person Lin Song loved most.
“Don’t say ‘I’m sorry’ to me—”
As if knowing she wanted to apologize again, Lin Song spoke first, cutting her off. “Rather than a hollow verbal apology, I want something tangible from you. From now on, you must follow my arrangements.”
Lin Song’s voice continued. Seeming afraid Bai Jun wouldn’t agree, she softened her tone. “I will keep a ledger in my heart, recording everything good and bad you do. When I feel your atonement is complete, I will let you go. Do you agree?”
Lin Song was truly much kinder than the pre-amnesia Bai Jun.
Bai Jun pursed her lips. If someone had hurt the person she loved, she would surely do everything to get revenge; she would never give that person a chance to atone.
“Fine. Where is your ‘White Moonlight’ now?”
She closed her eyes, desperately wanting to sleep but afraid of missing Lin Song’s reply. She fought to stay awake.
“She’s hidden away. I have to take you everywhere to look for her before I can bring her back,” Lin Song said softly after a long silence, her voice carrying an indescribable sorrow in the night.
Lin Song said nothing more. She simply stroked Bai Jun’s back gently, transferring her body heat to her. Bai Jun was filled with guilt, trying to think of where Lin Song’s “White Moonlight” could be but having no clue. Finally, sleep took over, and she drifted off into a deep slumber.
In her daze, a gentle kiss fell cautiously on her forehead.
“Throw away all the unhappiness. I will work hard to find your happiness again.”
