The Venomous Wife Let Me Go - Chapter 25
“I accidentally hit the corner of a table and got a cut. Don’t worry, the doctor said the stitches can come out in about a week.”
Lin Song explained with a few simple words and lay down beside her. She turned off the light, her voice sounding as gentle as ever, saturated with concern. “Sister Zhang said you didn’t eat dinner. Are you feeling unwell?”
“Mm.”
Bai Jun originally wanted to snap back and say she wasn’t worried at all, but remembering Lin Song’s weakened state, she didn’t want to fight. Her mind was a mess; she wasn’t actually ready to face Lin Song yet.
The moment she finished watching the contents of the USB drive, her instinct was to flee. It was only now, with Lin Song lying next to her, that she belatedly began to think about what came next.
Should she confront her?
So much grievance was stored in her heart, clogging her throat. She desperately wanted to vent her anger on Lin Song—to bite her hard.
Why me?
She couldn’t understand it. She had sponsored Lin Song’s education; given her wealth, she shouldn’t have needed anything in return. She had shown Lin Song nothing but kindness, yet Lin Song had targeted her, playing out a modern-day version of “The Farmer and the Viper.”
She truly hated Lin Song. But logic told her that now was not the time for a confrontation. Lin Feng had already tried to hit her with a car once. If they knew she had discovered the truth about the accident, Lin Feng might strike again.
As for calling the police…
Bai Jun bit her lip, discovering with a pang of sadness that she seemed to have inherited her mother’s “love brain”: she couldn’t bring herself to send Lin Song to prison. Lin Song had suffered so much as a child; perhaps she was being coerced by her father and wasn’t doing this willingly.
She had to find a way to escape secretly!
Bai Jun pressed her lips together, her heart a desolate wasteland. She wanted nothing more than to leave this bed immediately. Yet Lin Song, lying beside her, seemed to be in high spirits, tossing and turning for a long time without falling asleep.
“Jun Jun, are you awake? Can we talk for a bit?” Lin Song’s voice was full of hope.
Bai Jun gave a cold “mm,” waiting to see what game the bad woman was going to play now.
“Is there anywhere you want to go? Once everything is mostly resolved at the end of the month, let’s go on a trip together, okay?”
If this were the old Bai Jun, still immersed in love, she would have been ecstatic to finally travel with her wife. But the current Bai Jun felt only a chill in her heart.
So, she planned to soothe her until the end of the month? And once the end of the month arrived, would the hidden dagger finally be revealed? She had heard stories of people who murdered their spouses for insurance money—taking them to remote locations for a “trip” to stage an accidental death. Every member of the Bai family had high-value insurance policies.
But she couldn’t die yet. Her mother was still abroad and ill; if she knew her daughter was dead, she would be devastated.
“You decide,” Bai Jun said, feeling utterly listless. She had nothing left to say to this cunning woman. She never wanted to love this deceptive viper again!
“Then I’ll decide!”
Lin Song squeezed her hand, her voice sounding incredibly joyful. She let out a contented sigh. “Jun Jun, I never imagined that I would actually be with you in this lifetime. It all feels like a dream.”
Bai Jun remained silent. Of course you’re happy; your conspiracy is nearing completion.
She wanted to shake off the hand reaching out beneath the duvet, but fearing she would hurt Lin Song’s wound, she could only keep her body stiff, eyes closed and silent.
“When should we move back home?” she heard Lin Song ask. “I heard the decorations are beautiful. Jun Jun really is excellent at everything she does. Thank you for your hard work!”
Here it was—the familiar sugar-coated bullets.
Bai Jun originally didn’t want to acknowledge her, but the memory of her own excitement and happiness while decorating the house felt like a violent slap in the face. She had truly been a fool!
“Do you not feel even a shred of guilt?” Bai Jun gritted her teeth, speaking with suppressed fury.
The moment the words left her mouth, she regretted them. Lin Song was so sharp; if she sensed something, Bai Jun might never have the chance to escape. Fortunately, Lin Song misunderstood her meaning.
“I’m sorry.” Lin Song hesitated, clearly reflecting on why Bai Jun would say that. Her voice was full of apology. “I didn’t do enough. I thought you wanted to decorate it yourself to give me a surprise, and since I’m not good at that sort of thing, I didn’t dare ask too much.”
“But it’s a home for both of us. I shouldn’t have let you do all the hard work alone.”
Bai Jun froze. She had wanted to surprise Lin Song, which was why she had intentionally blocked her from participating. But hearing Lin Song apologize like this made her feel uneasy.
Yes, it was a home for two—why didn’t Lin Song participate? Even though Lin Song had sent Xu Tu, gave her a card to buy whatever she wanted, and used her connections for the designers… Bai Jun still felt aggrieved. Perhaps Lin Song just didn’t care!
If it were a new home for Lin Song and her “white moonlight,” she would surely have been there every second, supervising the work. Perhaps the house she had designed so carefully would eventually become the residence for Lin Song and that person. They would live in the house she created, doing all the intimate things lovers do…
The thought made Bai Jun’s heart ache with a surge of resentment. She wasn’t in love with Lin Song; she was just unwilling to lose!
As the suffocation in her chest grew, a thought suddenly struck her. Since Lin Song was going to try every possible way to coax her during this period, couldn’t she take revenge on this black-hearted woman before escaping? At the very least, she could distract Lin Song and delay her plans for harm.
“Lin Song!”
With a surge of frustration, Bai Jun decided to start her revenge plan immediately. “Don’t go to work tomorrow. You’re injured; I want you to rest properly.” If I interfere with her dirty work, I can delay things day by day.
However, Lin Song didn’t seem to fall for it.
“It’s a critical time right now,” Lin Song said with a hint of apology, rejecting her. “I want to get everything handled as quickly as possible. Besides, the doctor said it’s just a minor injury. It’s no big deal, I just have to keep it dry.”
“Jun Jun,” Lin Song’s voice then took on a note of clear confusion. “Why aren’t you calling me ‘Wife’ anymore?”
What a sharp, bad woman! Bai Jun curled her lip.
Although she didn’t want to call this woman “Wife,” she feared Lin Song would notice something was wrong. Emulating Lin Song’s usual coquettish manner, Bai Jun softened her voice, dragging out the syllables piteously. She lightly traced Lin Song’s palm with her finger.
“Wife, please promise me! I’m just so worried about you. I’m afraid you’ll exhaust yourself…”
As she spoke, she deeply loathed her own hypocrisy. So this was what it felt like to act in real life? It didn’t seem that hard. Previously, she wanted to maintain her dignity as a CEO; though she had unconsciously acted spoiled before, she couldn’t fully let go of her pride. But now that she knew Lin Song likely saw her as a brainless woman with more money than sense, she didn’t care about her image.
She could learn to be a “bad woman” too.
What she didn’t expect was that a simple act of acting spoiled would trigger such a strong reaction from Lin Song!
Lin Song’s body stiffened almost instantly. Before Bai Jun could react, Lin Song’s hand was behind her head, pulling her into a deep, heavy kiss.
“Jun Jun, you’re so cute!”
“Call me that again…”
The bad woman seemed to have gone mad, becoming incredibly excited. She coaxed her over and over, her urgency making Bai Jun’s skin crawl. She wanted to push her away, but the hand holding her was the injured one, and she was afraid of hurting her. If she truly angered the bad woman, she might strike sooner.
Telling herself to endure for the sake of survival, Bai Jun allowed it. But as they kissed, Lin Song’s uninjured hand began to wander. She seemed to be pushing her luck again, wanting to take the dominant position.
“Lin Song!” Bai Jun’s voice changed with anger.
“I know,” the bad woman whispered into her ear, laughing softly. “This isn’t my dominant hand. I won’t do anything to you, I’m just afraid of hurting you…”
She shamelessly wrapped her arm around Bai Jun’s waist, nuzzling her flushed cheek and gently biting her ear. Feeling Bai Jun’s body tremble, the bad woman laughed with genuine pleasure.
“Jun Jun, I’m so happy!” she whispered, like a siren’s murmur. “I’ve dreamed of this many times—you talking to me in this sweet voice, leaning in to kiss me with red cheeks. You’re so captivating…”
Based on her subsequent movements, Bai Jun was certain these were not “innocent” dreams. To have such dreams and actually admit it to her!
Flushed with shame and indignation, Bai Jun bit down hard on the bad woman’s chin.
She thought she finally understood why this woman had chosen her out of so many wealthy people to plot against. This was a lecherous, bad woman! Having a “white moonlight” wasn’t enough; she actually lusted after Bai Jun’s body too!
Bai Jun deeply regretted the method she chose for “revenge” the previous night. The bad woman was far too easily provoked and didn’t know the meaning of the word “shy.” Bai Jun had only ended up shooting herself in the foot, left blushing by the other’s teasing.
And while the bad woman woke up a bit later than usual the next day, she still went to work. She looked enchantingly radiant and full of energy. Despite Bai Jun telling her to use foundation to cover the bite mark on her chin, the woman didn’t listen at all, parading the mark around and clinging to Bai Jun with a foolishly wide smile.
When Xu Tu arrived and saw her like that, her face turned pale with shock.
But Bai Jun was not one to give up easily. She carefully reviewed the failure of the night before and felt that the bad woman was indeed obsessed with her body. She could use this to her advantage and act up a bit more.
As the workday drew to a close, Bai Jun took the initiative to call her.
“Jun Jun, this is the first time you’ve contacted me first in days!” The bad woman sounded incredibly surprised. “Have you forgiven me?”
This time, the background was normal; she seemed to be in an office. So, the bad woman had known all along that she was angry.
“You’re injured, you shouldn’t work so much overtime,” Bai Jun said awkwardly, avoiding the topic of forgiveness. “Come home early!”
She had originally wanted to act a bit spoiled, but meeting Lin Song’s eyes and remembering her husband’s crazed, out-of-control state from the night before, she didn’t dare provoke that fire.
But that one sentence seemed to be enough.
That “worthless” smile reappeared on the bad woman’s face, and she immediately stood up and grabbed her car keys.
“I’m coming home right now.”
The bad woman seems pretty easy to fool…
Having successfully convinced the bad woman to stop working and come home, Bai Jun looked at the darkened phone screen, her confidence partially restored. She racked her brain, thinking of ways to continue being difficult and seeking revenge once Lin Song arrived. Finally, she hit upon another idea.
By the time the bad woman returned, Bai Jun had changed into a camisole nightgown and was sitting lazily on the sofa, soaking her feet in a tub of water.
“Wife,” she said piteously as the bad woman walked through the door, “could you come and help me wash my feet?”
As she spoke, she scrutinized Lin Song’s expression.
Would she be angry?
She remembered once when her father came home from work and her mother asked him to rub her shoulders; her father had flown into a rage, saying he was exhausted from working all day and accusing her mother of treating him like a servant. But Lin Song still needed to soothe her, so she surely couldn’t show any anger. Bai Jun wanted to see the bad woman suffer internal injuries from suppressed irritation while trying to find a way to refuse.
But Lin Song truly deserved her title as an award-winning actress. After a fleeting moment of shock, she actually began to laugh.
She was still wearing her impeccable white office suit; her neck was slender and her frame lean, making her look incredibly elegant and formal. She approached slowly, undoing a button at her collar and rolling up her sleeves.
She really intends to wash my feet?
Bai Jun’s eyes widened, and she started to panic. “I—I was just joking. You’ve worked all day and you’re tired, plus your hand is injured. Just rest, I’ll do it myself.”
She moved frantically to lift her feet out of the water.
“Doing anything for Jun Jun isn’t tiring.”
Lin Song gave her a smiling glance, walked over, and knelt down. She lowered her head and began slowly stroking Bai Jun’s calves. From Bai Jun’s perspective, she could see Lin Song’s exquisite, flawless profile; Lin Song’s red lips were pursed as she focused intently on Bai Jun’s feet.
Bai Jun’s toes were pink, her nails lustrous, and her skin smooth. Even though Lin Song’s expression while washing was perfectly normal, Bai Jun felt a distinct sense of pressure from her effortless attitude. There was an indescribable, flushing sensuality surrounding her.
Bai Jun didn’t dare meet her gaze; the bad woman’s eyes were almost obsessive, as if Bai Jun’s feet were her most precious treasure. Bai Jun swallowed hard, sitting frozen in place. Lin Song’s touch was light, yet Bai Jun felt a shiver with every contact.
This woman’s gaze is too predatory!
Bai Jun deeply regretted the rotten idea of having Lin Song wash her feet. It felt as if a tingling electric current was traveling up her legs, extending bit by bit to her spine. Her mouth felt dry, her scalp tingled, and she even felt her breathing becoming labored.
“You!” she snapped through gritted teeth. “I’m finished!”
Only then did Lin Song reluctantly pick up a towel to dry her legs. As Bai Jun tried to pull her feet back, Lin Song pressed down on her fair, delicate ankle and gently pressed a kiss onto the bridge of her foot.
It was both devout and intimate. She looked like a demon gazing up at a deity, yet wanting to pull that deity down into a long-woven trap.
“This is my reward.”
The bad woman arched an eyebrow and smiled at her. Bai Jun’s foot tensed instantly; she pulled it back awkwardly and hung her head, feeling her entire body go soft. Her heart betrayed her again, thumping wildly!
To seduce me, this bad woman actually went to such lengths!
With this kind of persistence, she could succeed at anything! Why was she so fixated on entangling herself with me? Bai Jun felt completely numb. Especially when the bad woman leaned in afterward, seemingly wanting to carry her; thinking of the injury on Lin Song’s arm, Bai Jun jumped up, slipped into her slippers, and bolted upstairs.
The bad woman was too shameless; she was no match for her. She had to think of a different plan.
Over the next few days, every night, Bai Jun pondered how to torment the bad woman to delay the inevitable confrontation, while also trying to find a way to contact the outside world and escape. She felt a bit smug, thinking her acting wasn’t any worse than the bad woman’s, because Lin Song truly seemed distracted. Though, most of the time, the results weren’t what she intended.
She said she craved buns from a specific shop that was hard to buy from, intending to send the bad woman on a tiring errand. Lin Song indeed got up early to buy them and rushed back covered in the dust of the road—only to pull her in and demand a kiss as payment!
She said the bad woman’s hairstyle was ugly. Lin Song actually took it to heart and brought her to the hair salon. But while getting her hair done, Lin Song continued to work. After getting soft curls, the bad woman became even more enchanting; she looked exactly like a seductive temptress. When the temptress came over to kiss her, Bai Jun couldn’t help but lose control again and kissed the cunning woman back!
She told the bad woman to cook for her every day, and Lin Song agreed. But after cooking, she would also demand a “service fee,” clinging to her and kissing her incessantly.
Bai Jun became increasingly certain: the bad woman was likely obsessed with her body. If she had been shy before, now she was just stubborn, refusing to let the bad woman have her way.
Lin Song didn’t seem to realize Bai Jun was faking. Instead, she seemed delighted that Bai Jun was making demands, becoming more and more like a clingy puppy. She seemed to have a strange logic: that Bai Jun being willing to get close to her, rely on her, and make demands meant she was truly starting to fall in love. She even seemed more excited than during their previous time together!
Bai Jun didn’t understand this logic, but her sense of crisis deepened—the bad woman was so incredibly obedient that Bai Jun felt herself starting to like her more and more!
No! I have to escape as soon as possible.
But Lin Song kept a very tight watch on her. She could only pin her hopes on others: perhaps her mother would hear of her depression and return from abroad; perhaps her father would come to negotiate; or perhaps her aunt would need the new perfume she had developed.
She didn’t expect that the first person to seek her out a few days later would be her cousin—Bai Huayi’s daughter, Bai Hong.
“President Bai, Ms. Bai Hong has reached out many times saying she wants to see you.”
“Do you want to see her?”
This morning, after delivering the documents, Xu Tu didn’t leave as usual. Instead, she leaned in with a troubled expression and spoke softly.
Bai Jun blinked. Her impression of her younger cousin, Bai Hong, remained fixed in childhood. Bai Hong was three years younger than her and had been born with a heart condition. She was frail but loved following Bai Jun around. Bai Hong had always been sensible, quiet, and well-behaved—a complete opposite to her mother’s personality. Her grandfather had originally been furious about his daughter’s illegitimate child, but after meeting the sensible Bai Hong, he chose to forgive her.
Everyone said Bai Hong was smarter and more sensible than her older sister. Bai Jun didn’t care about the comparisons; she actually felt a sense of pride because Bai Hong followed her every word and was willing to give her anything. Because of Bai Hong’s accommodation, Bai Jun sometimes felt that Bai Hong was more like the older sister.
But her aunt was, after all, Bai Hong’s mother. Now that her relationship with her aunt had soured, Bai Jun felt conflicted and unsure how to face her cousin.
Bai Jun wanted to refuse, but then Xu Tu relayed Bai Hong’s words: “She says you owed her a wish when you were ten years old. Her wish now is to see you.”
Bai Jun thinned her lips.
When she was ten, she had witnessed her father’s infidelity and never gave him a kind look afterward; the conflict between them grew increasingly intense. Once, when relatives from her father’s side visited, someone mocked Bai Hong for her poor health. Bai Jun refused to toast them, and her father, viewing her as impolite, used the opportunity to lash out and forced her to kneel outside the house.
In their many conflicts, her mother would usually side with her father. Bai Jun had gone from being aggrieved to gradually getting used to the punishment. But the seven-year-old Bai Hong had run out from the banquet and knelt beside her.
“Sister Jun Jun, thank you for protecting me,” Bai Hong had said, gazing at her seriously. “I caused the dispute. I’m the one who should be punished.”
Bai Hong refused to go back inside. Because of her poor health, her lips turned pale after kneeling for just a short while. It was the first time the well-behaved girl had ever defied the elders. Even when her mother cried and called for her, she wouldn’t budge. Finally, the adults compromised and let them both go back to their rooms.
At the time, Bai Jun was terrified by her pale complexion and scolded her for being so willful.
“Sister Jun Jun, I don’t need you to protect me,” Bai Hong had said, her eyes full of concern. “That person was just talking. It’s not worth you getting into a conflict for my sake.”
“You should take care of yourself and not get angry.”
Bai Jun used to tease her, saying little Bai Hong was like a little old man with so many worries. Later, because she caught a cold while kneeling, Bai Hong was bedridden for several days. Bai Jun felt terribly guilty and wanted to give her a gift, but Bai Hong refused. Perhaps knowing Bai Jun felt bad, she told her: “Then Sister Jun Jun owes me a wish! If I want something in the future, I’ll come and ask you for it.”
Recalling Bai Hong’s pale face from their last meeting, Bai Jun thought about it and finally agreed to the meeting. However, she had expected Bai Hong would want to meet to reconcile the relationship between her and her aunt. If that were the case, wouldn’t it be more appropriate for Bai Hong to use the wish to ask them to make up?
But Bai Hong used the wish just to meet.
What exactly did Bai Hong want to do?
