The Useless Beauty Who Went Viral Across the Stars - Chapter 3
Wang Xin felt a sudden chill run down his spine, feeling for a second like Death was watching him. But when he tried to catch that feeling, it was gone.
He frowned, ignored the feeling, and politely reached out to the young man. “You do not look well. Do you need my help?”
However, his body was not doing well lately, and today was the vice president’s funeral. Some things could wait. A cold look flashed deep in Lin Xiansheng’s eyes. Without a sound, he stepped aside to avoid Wang Xin’s hand. “No, thank you. I am fine on my own.”
With that, he stood up.
Wang Xin’s hand stayed in the air. He pulled it back awkwardly, and his smile faded.
Looking at the polite smile on the young man’s face, Wang Xin felt cold inside. In front of him, Lin Xiansheng always wore this look, like a pretty doll in a shop window, beautiful but lifeless. Even though people had been giving him a hard time lately, he still showed no emotion. He kept his distance, and no matter how nice Wang Xin was, he could not get close.
But things were different now. He knew all about Lin Xiansheng’s family situation. With his weak body and the high monthly cost of his medicine, he could not afford to lose this job.
Wang Xin narrowed his eyes. This time, he was sure Lin Xiansheng would not say no to him. Just as he was about to talk terms, everything went dark for a second, and he froze in place.
The young man’s polite voice came from beside him. “If you do not need anything else, I will go first.”
Wang Xin wanted to speak, but no sound came out. He felt dizzy, and the young man’s figure blurred and soon vanished from sight.
He did not know how long it had been before the choking feeling—like someone was holding his throat—finally faded. Wang Xin’s face turned pale. He held onto a chair and took heavy breaths.
“Sir, are you okay?” Someone walked out of the shadows and asked.
The sudden voice brought Wang Xin back. He felt like something had been wrong with him just now, but he just thought he was tired and did not think much of it.
He raised his head. By now, the young man was long gone.
Wang Xin narrowed his eyes a little, looking at the church door, seeming calm enough.
Then, he suddenly kicked a chair, his eyes turned dark, and he loosened his suit tie. “I thought I made sure Lin Xiansheng was not allowed to take leave today.”
“It looks like Director Yan does not want his job anymore.”
The bodyguard broke into a cold sweat, hearing the hidden anger in Wang Xin’s voice.
Wang Xin smiled coldly, but he did not mind Lin Xiansheng leaving for a little while.
After all, you can run away for a moment, but not forever. He would get what he wanted in the end.
He had another important task here today, and maybe he could kill two birds with one stone.
Many people gathered in the yard outside the church, talking about the late professor’s good character, while others stood by the sad family members to comfort them.
Some snacks were placed on a long white table. Lin Xiansheng, who had successfully avoided trouble, walked past the table. His blue eyes lit up, and he blinked, quietly picking up a piece of fruit candy.
He peeled off the colorful wrapper and put the candy in his mouth. The green candy melted, sweet but not too heavy, with a fresh apple taste that quickly filled his mouth.
He greedily took in the sweetness, and the pain in his body eased a lot.
Like a happy little cat, he squinted his eyes and enjoyed it.
“Too bad.” Lin Xiansheng looked at the rest of the candy with regret and forced himself to look away.
He liked it, but with this candy, the sugar he ate this month had reached his doctor’s limit.
But right now, his doctor was not here either… Lin Xiansheng was quiet for a moment, then quietly took a few more candies and put them in his pocket.
After the rest, the final ritual began. People in black mourning clothes stood up and followed the funeral procession to the cemetery.
The rituals went on one by one. Lin Xiansheng could feel an uncomfortable gaze fixed on him.
He said nothing, just mixing in with the crowd in black, and placed his own bunch of white hyacinths on the coffin. Compared to the white flowers others placed, that bright blue flower looked out of place.
Lin Xiansheng thought his temper was so good now that he could be a saint, and he really hated trouble.
He did not know why Wang Xin, who never got along with the repair department’s vice president, came to the funeral today. But if people left him alone, he would leave them alone. As long as Wang Xin did not bother him, everything was fine.
Giving the flower was the final goodbye. When the ritual ended, Lin Xiansheng walked around the crowd and left early.
The weather was not good today. Without warning, light rain began to fall from the gray sky. A thin young man held a black umbrella, walked past the cross gravestones, and reached the carved iron gates of the cemetery. Because he left early, there were no people here, and it felt very quiet.
He walked forward slowly. Just as he was about to leave the gate, three men in black uniforms suddenly stepped out from behind the wall and trapped him in the middle.
At the same time, an old man dressed neatly outside the cemetery opened the back door of a car while holding a black umbrella. The car lights were off, and it was dark inside, but a black figure was faintly visible.
The old man lowered his head, looking respectful. “General, we have arrived.”
Hearing this, the man inside the car, who had been resting with his eyes closed, slowly opened them. Gold-like pupils glowed faintly in the dark car.
The sky was dark. Raindrops rolled to the edge of the black umbrella, shook for a moment, and fell onto the asphalt, making clear splashes.
Lin Xiansheng slowly raised his umbrella to show the upper half of his face. His light blue eyes were gentle as he asked softly, “Is something wrong?”
A flash of surprise crossed the three men’s faces. They clearly did not expect the thin young man to be so calm in this situation.
Still, they were not bad people. The leader spoke politely, “Our young master wants to see you. Please wait a moment.”
Lin Xiansheng held his umbrella and stepped aside. Silver hair fell over his forehead, hiding his eyes so no one could read his thoughts.
He really hated trouble.
Soon, Wang Xin got the message and walked to the cemetery gate at an easy pace. He saw the young man with the black umbrella standing quietly by the road, surrounded by three men in the heavy rain.
He narrowed his eyes, waved the others away, and smiled falsely. “Teacher Lin left in such a hurry. In the blink of an eye, you were gone.”
Lin Xiansheng glanced at the three men who had not gone far. His expression did not change at all. He stayed calm. “Is there something you need, Teacher Wang?”
With this attitude again, Wang Xin smiled with contempt, full of pride. He spoke without holding back, “Teacher Lin, I think you know that with your mental power and health, you cannot pass the review.”
Thinking of his goal, he paused, softened his voice, and tried to persuade him. “… But if you agree to my request, I still have a way to keep you at the school.”
The silver hair by the young man’s ear blew in the cold wind, showing his slightly red ear tips.
He patiently waited for Wang Xin to finish. Then the young man curved his eyes, and his stunning face made Wang Xin catch his breath.
Yet, the next moment, what Lin Xiansheng said made Wang Xin’s face turn dark.
“Who knows until the results come out?”
Wang Xin’s voice turned cold. “Aside from this face, do you really think your little ability is enough to stay at the school?”
The young man just smiled and did not answer. “If there is nothing else, I will go first.”
“You!” Wang Xin never thought he would get this answer, and veins popped on his forehead from anger. He reached out to grab Lin Xiansheng’s arm, but his pupils shrank. A sudden, heavy fear hit him, as if something terrible was about to happen.
Right then, that cold intent to kill vanished. Wang Xin froze. He saw the young man, usually polite and distant, looking shocked. It was like a splash of bright color falling on a white sheet of paper—he came alive instantly, so beautiful it was hard to look at.
A familiar scent filled the air, and Lin Xiansheng’s body stiffened.
He suddenly remembered why he paid attention to Zhang Zhou during the open lecture class.
The General, at a funeral?
The young man’s calm and smiling face finally changed. To put it simply, he broke down on the spot.
Speaking of why he hated trouble.
The main reason was that he was afraid trouble would snowball and get bigger, drawing attention.
And the person he was most afraid of drawing attention from was the empire’s household name—the God of War general.
The reason was a long story, but to make it short: back when he was young and foolish, he read too many romance novels and wanted to feel what love was like.
At that time, he was young, wild, and proud. He did not like ordinary people. After picking and choosing, he set his sights on the Interstellar Empire’s general.
Of course, the general was not a general back then.
Anyway, after using some tricks, he hid his identity and successfully met the general. Through day-to-day life, he really got to feel what love was like.
But his health back then was even worse than now, almost falling apart. He coughed up blood every day.
The general found many famous doctors in the interstellar world, but none of them had any idea about his strange illness. One doctor even said he would not live for a year.
Lin Xiansheng actually thought the doctor was right. So, thinking his time was short, he told the young and naive general who he really was.
Then he faked his death.
Who would have thought that after faking his death, his current doctor saved him and kept him alive? He kept him alive all the way to now.
Counting it up, it had been a full ten years.
Ten years was about the limit. Lately, Lin Xiansheng could feel his body getting worse fast.
When a person is about to die, their words are kind.
Since he was close to the grave anyway, he felt his temper was like a saint now. People called him a vase, and he really just wanted to be a lazy vase and live out his “old age” quietly.
As long as nothing went wrong, everything was fine.
But who would tell him why the general, who rarely showed up in the capital, was here today?!
Lin Xiansheng pulled down his black umbrella without thinking. He forgot all about Wang Xin; now he just wanted to hide his head and keep a low profile.
But the tall man in military uniform not far away seemed to feel something and suddenly looked up.
At first glance, his gaze landed right on the silver-haired young man holding the black umbrella in the rain.
