The True Heiress And The Fake Heiress Ended Up Together - Chapter 6
It was a quiet night.
The curtains in the room were not drawn, and the faint moonlight spilled in. Jian Ying’an lay on the soft, large bed, sleeping very restlessly.
It had been a long time since she had dreamed, and her dreams were countless fragments, all of Qin Mianmian looking into her eyes.
Qin Mianmian was adorable as a child, like a little dumpling, and very beautiful when she grew up.
That word, “love,” tightly wrapped around Jian Ying’an’s heart, making her breathing ache with pain.
She opened her eyes, covered in cold sweat.
She gripped the down comforter, breathing rapidly, and it took her a while to calm down. Jian Ying’an propped up her head, soberly looking at the foot of the bed, and then at her own shrunken palm.
Clenching her hand lightly, Jian Ying’an thought, her body is still too weak now.
Her calves were cramping from forcing herself to run around outside.
Just as she was thinking this, someone began to knock on the door.
The sound was intermittent and very soft, easy to miss. If Jian Ying’an wasn’t so wary of everything around her right now, she probably wouldn’t have noticed it.
Combined with the dim room, it created a sense of inexplicable dread.
Jian Ying’an chuckled. She walked over and opened the door.
Outside was Qin Mianmian in a nightgown, clutching a half-body-sized pillow, her expression innocent: “I can’t sleep.”
Since she brought her pillow, she definitely wanted to sleep with Jian Ying’an. Jian Ying’an stepped aside, letting her in.
Qin Mianmian happily ran to the bed, which still retained Jian Ying’an’s warmth. She buried herself in the pillow, unwilling to make room for Jian Ying’an.
Jian Ying’an walked to the other side of the bed and lay down.
Her eyes were clear: “Why can’t you sleep?”
Qin Mianmian was carefree; does she have nightmares too?
Seeing that she hadn’t properly adjusted her blanket, Jian Ying’an helped cover her, then watched Qin Mianmian lie down properly, gripping the blanket with both hands, leaving only her eyes visible.
In the night, they sparkled brightly, illuminating the heart.
Qin Mianmian lowered her voice, the volume of a whisper falling into her ear, soft and tingling: “I’m thinking about things.”
Jian Ying’an: “…It’s so late. Hurry up and go to sleep.”
Qin Mianmian secretly laughed.
Jian Ying’an was a person of few words; if no one sought her out, she would never speak. Especially after she became a business elite, her demeanor became even sharper, showing a hidden edge, and even fewer people dared to talk to her.
Only Qin Mianmian, oblivious to danger, would come forward to “provoke” her.
No one could have imagined that a day would come when Jian Ying’an would be helpless against Qin Mianmian and even have to coax her to sleep.
Jian Ying’an lowered her eyelids. After being startled awake, she was completely alert.
But as soon as Qin Mianmian arrived, sleepiness followed. She patted the quilt above Qin Mianmian, one beat after another, very rhythmically: “You have school tomorrow.”
Qin Mianmian: “When will you start school?”
Jian Ying’an calculated the time: “A week if it’s fast, a month if it’s slow.”
She exclaimed: “Ah, that’s so long!”
Qin Mianmian blinked, wondering why it would take so long, but also trusting that Jian Ying’an wouldn’t lie to her. She secretly decided to urge the butler.
She wanted to go to school with Jian Ying’an.
Qin Mianmian said to Jian Ying’an: “I’ve always wanted an older sister, but they all say I am the older sister, and it’s impossible to have another one.”
“Mm,” Jian Ying’an responded, only realizing after a moment.
She said: “You can call me older sister.”
Qin Mianmian let out another low laugh: “You’re so good. You are the best person in the world.”
Jian Ying’an: “…”
She saw Qin Mianmian close her eyes, ready to drift off to sleep, while she herself found it hard to sleep.
She couldn’t figure out one thing: why Qin Mianmian thought she was so good. She was so conflicted that she wanted to wake Qin Mianmian up and ask her face-to-face: What do you think is good about me?
Jian Ying’an knew she was entering a dead end. Qin Mianmian was only six years old now, and the current Jian Ying’an was the one who had abandoned all desire for contention and indulged her by letting her call her “older sister.”
Of course, she was good, Jian Ying’an closed her eyes as well.
She wouldn’t let Qin Mianmian change her mind.
Qin Mianmian and Qin Xing went to school, and she prepared to sneak out.
Coming out of the room, Jian Ying’an vaguely saw a figure at the staircase corner, walking towards her. Her heart sank, and an ominous feeling arose.
From her angle, she could see a tuxedo and the white hair of an elderly man.
It was the butler. Jian Ying’an cursed her bad luck. The butler wouldn’t come looking for her for no reason. What a hassle.
She quietly tutted, then put on a well-behaved front and greeted the butler: “Hello.”
The butler scrutinized Jian Ying’an from top to bottom, respectfully raising his right hand to his left chest: “Mr. Qin would like you to come over.”
Jian Ying’an’s pupils trembled. She lowered her head, revealing a look of impatience in an angle the butler couldn’t see.
Didn’t he go to the company? Did the company go bankrupt? Is Mr. Qin so useless now?
Why did he want to see her? Was he eager to walk into the firing line and die prematurely?
Jian Ying’an cursed wildly in her heart, yet she knew she was in a fit of powerless rage. Her mood became increasingly irritable. Her hand, hanging by her side, clenched and unclenched before her mood stabilized. She despised Mr. Qin, but still had to answer obediently: “Alright.”
The butler saw clearly that this real daughter of the Qin family, who was acknowledged but not accepted, was very reluctant to see Mr. Qin.
Truly, they were father and daughter.
The butler’s lips pressed down. His hair was meticulously combed. His excellent upbringing prevented him from showing any extra emotion. He nodded sternly.
Jian Ying’an was not even up to his chest, yet she behaved better than many adults.
When the butler was younger, he had met many business rivals and was able to strategize for the old master, but he had been idle in recent years.
His judgment of people was impeccable. Though she was a daughter, her potential was far superior to the young master’s.
For the future of the Qin family… the butler said: “You will be reporting to school in two days. Please prepare yourself, Miss.”
Jian Ying’an was about to go to the study to find Mr. Qin and stopped upon hearing this.
She turned around, a little puzzled. Going to school so quickly would be troublesome for Aunt Zhang. Could it be that Qin Mianmian’s words were that effective with the butler?
She couldn’t see through the butler. This made her abruptly remember that the butler had already passed away from old age by the time she entered the business world and brought down the Qin family.
Jian Ying’an realized, her heart pounding. She was even more wary of the butler. She was only six years old now, and her every move could easily be known to the other party. Her small tricks likely wouldn’t fool him.
She was too hasty. Fortunately, Mr. Qin called her over at this time, and she discovered this in advance.
Jian Ying’an had no choice but to slow down her plan. She nodded, imitating Qin Mianmian’s smile: “Thank you for the reminder.”
As for calling him Grandpa Butler, she couldn’t bring herself to do it.
Jian Ying’an walked towards the study.
The servant’s downstairs were secretly watching. Seven or eight pairs of eyes were fixed on her figure. Jian Ying’an pretended not to notice. Her posture was straight, and her steady steps in no way resembled a child raised in poverty.
There was a word to describe it: confident.
She was going to see Mr. Qin, yet she showed no fear, only confidence.
When the servants withdrew their gaze, taking advantage of the butler’s absence, they whispered to each other: “Should we continue to ignore her?”
No matter how much the Qin couple wanted to hide it, the servants working in the Qin family couldn’t be completely ignorant.
They all knew that this was the daughter with a blood relation to the Qin couple. When they first heard the news, they all thought Qin Mianmian’s status would plummet, falling from the clouds to the bottom.
Unexpectedly, the Qin couple became even more loving towards her. On the contrary, this true eldest daughter was not valued.
Jian Ying’an was raised by that nanny.
They heard the nanny never let her study, and even kept her hungry and poorly dressed. When she returned to the Qin family, she was dirty, looking like a little beggar.
The servants all frowned. That composure, that demeanor—
They would believe it if someone said she was the daughter raised personally by the Qin couple.
Was she really their biological daughter?
Now that Jian Ying’an was called to the study, was it to connect the father-daughter relationship?
So, should they still ignore her? The servants’ eyes darted around. That was the real eldest daughter of the Qin family!
Someone cleared their throat. They scattered tacitly.
The butler came down. He walked past the group of servants, leaving a warning: “No discussing the master’s affairs behind their backs.”
At the study door.
Confidence was fake. Jian Ying’an was afraid her emotions would show. She could control her emotions well, except when facing Mr. Qin.
After all, he had spent over a decade planting the seed of resentment in Jian Ying’an’s heart.
Over these ten years, the seed had grown into a towering tree.
The satisfaction she felt when she succeeded in the past was how much she felt screwed now.
If it weren’t for Qin Mianmian, she would want to grab her shoes, rush in, throw them around, and then talk.
If possible, biting him a few times would be even better! Biting off a piece of his flesh! Jian Ying’an took a deep breath, raised her hand, and knocked on the door.
The heavy wooden door was difficult to knock on. Jian Ying’an’s body was already weak, and the few knocks made her tiger’s mouth the web between thumb and forefinger numb.
She recorded this grudge!
Mr. Qin’s voice sounded from the study: “Come in.”
Jian Ying’an pushed the door open and entered the study. As soon as she stepped in, she properly and honestly called out “Mr. Qin.” She didn’t treat herself as this man’s daughter at all, didn’t even give an extra look, acting completely businesslike.
Mr. Qin momentarily thought this was his assistant.
If her voice hadn’t been too childish, making him look up and realize this person was Jian Ying’an, Mr. Qin would have handed over a document.
Where did she learn such a professional manner at such a young age?
Mr. Qin looked at the top of her head with displeasure: “Look up!”
Jian Ying’an raised her head, her expression like a dead salted fish, utterly lacking fighting spirit, which again provoked Mr. Qin’s dissatisfaction.
“What do you call this behavior!”
Jian Ying’an: “…”
Peh!
Jian Ying’an stiffened her neck: “Mr. Qin, what is the matter?”
Mr. Qin’s eyebrows furrowed tightly, irritated by her addressing him as “Mr. Qin.” He considered her a burden, but he hadn’t expected this person to show no respect for her father!
Mr. Qin put down his pen, his left hand pinching his right, his knuckles cracking.
What was wrong with calling him “Father”!
He thought it was a mistake to believe this person could be cultivated and used for the Qin family.
Someone raised by a nanny is raised by a nanny; she has no manners! Mr. Qin picked up his pen again, too lazy to look at this child he had abandoned.
“Lai Bo told me about the school. Don’t embarrass the Qin family at school, and don’t reveal your identity, do you understand!”
“I don’t want Mianmian to be hurt because of you! To the outside world, she is the Qin family’s eldest daughter!”
“And you are merely someone adopted by the Qin family. I hope you recognize your place!”
Mr. Qin commanded.
Jian Ying’an listened to his self-righteous words, and not only was she not angry, but she also felt like laughing a little.
She had heard these words in her previous life, and the laughable thing was that she had foolishly yearned for paternal love then and was sad for a long time because of these words.
This led to her feeling an irrepressible anger every time she recalled it later. That anger churned in her bones, making her remember those words every time she saw Qin Mianmian.
She stubbornly believed that if it weren’t for Qin Mianmian, none of this would have happened.
Bullshit! Jian Ying’an cursed in her heart.
How innocent Mianmian was. She was a little angel. The Qin family, the Qin family was a big idiot from beginning to end!
Jian Ying’an looked at Mr. Qin, who was looking down and flipping through documents, wanting to rush over, slam the table, and make him look into her eyes to hear her say every word: “What Qin family’s eldest daughter? Mianmian is not!”
“She is mine, not the Qin family’s. The Qin family only deserves to be thrown into the garbage dump!”
Jian Ying’an couldn’t help but let out a sneer.
The laughter made Mr. Qin look up again, and then he saw her pretending to be innocent: “I understand. I will be good to Mianmian. I will take good care of her and won’t let her suffer any harm.”
“I will be by her side at all times. I was born for her—”
“I will care about Mianmian more than you.”
