The Transmigrated Princess - Chapter 65
Xie Zhizhen’s body stiffened, and her cheeks burned a fiery red at a speed visible to the naked eye, the crimson flush quickly spreading to the tips of her ears. She pushed Gu Qing away abruptly, using such force that Gu Qing actually staggered a step back.
The air around them seemed to freeze. Meng Jing let out an awkward cough and hurriedly turned around, pretending to study the stone bricks nearby. Meanwhile, the ten “little wolf cubs” Gu Qing had brought back were all staring with wide eyes, their gazes filled with pure curiosity.
“Sister Gu, does it hurt Sister Xie? When Er Gou next door bit me before, it hurt so much! I had to blow on it!” one of the children said earnestly, leaning in and tilting her head to observe Xie Zhizhen.
Xie Zhizhen wished she could find a crack in the ground to crawl into. Her image as a dignified and aloof Headmistress shattered into dust at that moment. She shot a fierce glare at Gu Qing, her eyes full of accusation: It is all your fault!
Gu Qing, however, was thick-skinned. She rubbed her nose and stepped forward, talking nonsense to the children with a straight face. “That is because… there was a mosquito on Sister Xie’s mouth. I was helping her chase it away. Alright, hurry and follow Sister Meng to the classroom. If anyone is late, there will be no extra snacks for lunch today!”
Upon hearing about the snacks, the children immediately scattered, laughing and following Meng Jing into the house.
Only the pale-faced Zhou Xianyun, the still-recovering Xie Zhizhen, and the brightly smiling Gu Qing remained.
“The General certainly has good skills, to be able to ‘chase away’ a mosquito so precisely.” Zhou Xianyun’s voice sounded as if it were squeezed through her teeth. Her hand rested on the saber at her waist, her knuckles turning white from the force.
Gu Qing raised an eyebrow and took the opportunity to grab Xie Zhizhen’s cold little hand, even giving her fingertips a mischievous squeeze. Meeting Zhou Xianyun’s gaze, which looked ready to spit fire, her tone was lazy yet carried an unshakable dominance. “Chasing mosquitoes is a technical skill. If Constable Zhou is interested, perhaps I can teach you sometime? However, this mosquito only likes to bite people from its own family. I am afraid Constable Zhou won’t have the chance to practice.”
“You!” Zhou Xianyun snapped, about to take a step forward.
Xie Zhizhen finally found her voice. Although she was ashamed and annoyed by Gu Qing’s boldness, she disliked Zhou Xianyun’s overstepping gaze even more. She stepped slightly to the side, blocking half of Gu Qing’s shoulder to clearly state her position.
“Miss Zhou, class is about to begin,” Xie Zhizhen’s voice was cold, carrying the unique majesty of the Eldest Princess. “Since you are here to teach, you should prioritize the students. As for the private affairs of this Princess and the Prince Consort, Miss Zhou need not trouble herself.”
These words were very heavy, directly blocking all of Zhou Xianyun’s unspoken provocations.
Zhou Xianyun’s face turned from white to red. Finally, she could only bow her head in salute. The back of her figure as she turned to leave looked somewhat lonely, yet it also carried a stubbornness that refused to admit defeat.
Seeing the annoying person leave, Gu Qing wanted to lean in and coax Xie Zhizhen, but Xie Zhizhen turned around and stepped heavily on the tip of her foot.
“Ow, ow! Zhizhen, go easy!” Gu Qing cried out exaggeratingly.
“Now you know pain?” Xie Zhizhen huffed, using a handkerchief to gently press the small wound on her lip. “General Gu, if you cannot find more teachers who understand arithmetic today, you will sleep in the study tonight!”
Upon hearing she might sleep in the study, Gu Qing immediately wailed in distress. She leaned over like a large puppy. “Zhizhen, I was wrong! I will get on it right now! Not just arithmetic teachers if you want them, I will even hire fortune tellers for you!”
Xie Zhizhen was almost amused by her rogue-like behavior and could only barely keep a straight face. “Hurry up and go!”
Watching Gu Qing’s hurried departure, Xie Zhizhen lightly touched her swollen lip. Although they had made a fool of themselves, that grounded feeling of being possessed heart and soul made her feel that wrapping herself in a high-collared dress in the middle of summer was not so unbearable after all.
