- Chapter 27 - Soft-Hearted
As night fell, Pei Yan sped all the way home.
He parked the car and stepped out. The villa’s lights were still bright, and a figure was pacing near the entrance. As he drew closer, he recognized it was Xie Yu, who seemed to be waiting for him.
Pei Yan walked straight toward Xie Yu, a smile hanging on his face that he hadn’t even noticed himself. The exhaustion and pressure of the day seemed to be swept away in this instant.
“Why are you standing outside?”
As he spoke, he subconsciously reached out to take Xie Yu’s hand, but Xie Yu quickly pulled away.
This was the first time he had been rejected by Xie Yu. For a moment, Pei Yan failed to react and simply froze in place.
There was no trace of the usual passion and love in Xie Yu’s eyes; they were pitch black. Even the light shining from the villa couldn’t penetrate them in the slightest. They looked as though they had been stained with ink—silent to a terrifying degree, devoid of any emotion.
Simultaneously, the aura of indifference and alienation radiating from him made Pei Yan feel afraid.
Whether Pei Yan admitted it or not, he had grown accustomed to Xie Yu’s warmth and his singular partiality.
Now, suddenly faced with such cold treatment, he was actually at a loss. It felt like a bucket of cold water had been poured over his head, chilling him from head to toe. Even his heart felt as though it were being squeezed by a hand, making it difficult to breathe.
“What’s wrong with you?”
It wasn’t until he spoke that he realized his voice had become extremely hoarse.
Sensing that the atmosphere between the two was not right, the butler walked over with a troubled expression. After a moment of hesitation, he asked, “Young Master, I heard you agreed to the marriage alliance with the Imperial Family?”
Pei Yan’s face stiffened. “How do you know?”
The butler replied, “All the major media outlets have reported it. Presumably, the entire Empire knows by now.”
Hearing this, Pei Yan immediately looked at Xie Yu, wanting to see his reaction, but the coldness Xie Yu displayed was terrifying.
“Xie Yu…”
He subconsciously wanted to explain, but when he opened his mouth, he didn’t know where to start.
These family grudges and interest-driven entanglements were things Xie Yu didn’t need to know about, nor did he need to be involved. Pei Yan didn’t want to drag him into this mire, sinking deeper and deeper until he couldn’t escape even if he wanted to.
From beginning to end, Xie Yu said nothing. He just stared quietly at Pei Yan, seemingly waiting for an explanation.
However, after waiting a while and seeing that Pei Yan had no intention of explaining, Xie Yu gave a self-deprecating smile and calmly turned to go upstairs.
Acting faster than his brain, Pei Yan hurriedly grabbed his wrist, his grip so tight it was as if Xie Yu would disappear the moment he let go.
Xie Yu remained still in that position, and of course, he did not look back.
The butler was anxious on the sidelines, but he still stood by his master’s side.
“Xiao Yu, the Young Master must have his reasons.”
“You have to be more tolerant of him; he must have been forced into this.”
The nanny on the side couldn’t stand it anymore and whispered, “Xiao Yu hasn’t done anything wrong either. Should he just be left to suffer alone?”
“That’s right. Even though Xiao Yu is an Alpha, he still has his dignity, okay?”
“Even if the Young Master has to enter a marriage alliance, he should respect Xiao Yu. Doing this now, where does that leave Xiao Yu?”
Ever since they learned that Xie Yu was an Alpha and not an Omega, they naturally assumed he was the one “enduring” in the relationship, and their pity and sympathy grew even stronger.
For an Alpha to be willing to submit himself to another Alpha was already an extremely rare phenomenon. Now, this Alpha had to endure his partner marrying an Omega while he himself was relegated to a position that couldn’t see the light of day. Who could bear that?
Pei Yan was silenced by the lecture, and the butler hung his head alongside him. He hadn’t realized that the usually gentle and polite ladies could be so intimidating when they were angry!
Though, what they said was indeed true.
Whether it was out of a soft heart or something else, Xie Yu finally turned around to look at Pei Yan and coldly spat out two words: “Upstairs.”
Hearing that Xie Yu was finally speaking to him, Pei Yan felt a bit happy. He let go of his hand and followed him up.
The bedroom door opened and then clicked shut.
In the darkness, Pei Yan could only vaguely see Xie Yu’s silhouette—tall and upright, yet cold and heartless.
The faint scent of Enigma pheromones drifted through the air.
Pei Yan sensed it, and his gland began to throb slightly. He felt uneasy and swallowed, only to find that his throat had become incredibly dry.
“Xie Yu…”
He grabbed the hem of Xie Yu’s clothes and called out hoarsely, his palms already damp with sweat.
But Xie Yu still did not respond.
Pei Yan’s eyes suddenly stung. It wasn’t out of grievance but pain. He knew he had wronged Xie Yu regarding the marriage alliance, but he had no choice; he didn’t want to compromise either.
However, even if he didn’t care for himself, he had to care for Lin Qingyu. He couldn’t act willfully.
Add to that the recent Imperial research into the Merfolk, which brought unprecedented pressure. He not only had to face an Imperial Family that wanted his life at any moment but also had to soothe the wrath of the Merman race…
He originally thought that once he got home and saw Xie Yu, he could temporarily put all of this behind him and enjoy some tenderness. But the Imperial Family didn’t even give him that chance, immediately having the media broadcast the alliance between him and Gu Xibai, giving him no room to breathe.
It was only natural for Xie Yu to ignore him. If the roles were reversed, his anger might have been even greater—he might have turned the house upside down.
After hesitating for a long time, Pei Yan lowered his head and slowly let go of his hand.
“Is this all the patience you have, Brother?”
Xie Yu turned around and caught his withdrawing hand just in time.
Pei Yan froze, looking up at him blankly. His eyes were still red, appearing particularly pitiful under the faint moonlight.
It was clear that Xie Yu couldn’t keep up the act any longer. He sighed softly and reached out to wipe the tears from the corners of Pei Yan’s eyes, kissing them tenderly. “Can Brother understand now the pain of having nothing said to you and knowing nothing?”
“But Brother treats me like this every time.”
His hand gripped the back of Pei Yan’s neck, covering the gland with an undeniable strength. “I worry about you too. I want to know your current situation. No matter what, I want to face it with you, rather than just being protected and knowing nothing.”
Pei Yan’s lips parted slightly in surprise. “So what you mean is… you were doing that on purpose just now?”
“That’s right. Otherwise, how could I make Brother empathize?”
Xie Yu admitted it frankly, without any concealment.
He wrapped his arms around Pei Yan’s waist and leaned against his shoulder, his voice muffled. “Brother, I don’t want to just stay at home all day waiting for you to come back. I don’t want the news about you to come from other people or the outside world. I want to be the first person to know everything about you.”
“As long as it’s for you, I’m willing to do anything.”
Pei Yan: “……”
He couldn’t quite describe his feelings, but he felt as though a long-empty space in his heart was being gradually filled—it was swollen and warm, very comfortable.
He reached out to hug Xie Yu back, and the two embraced tightly.
Finally, Pei Yan told Xie Yu everything, hiding nothing.
He thought that after Xie Yu finished listening, he would help analyze the situation. Instead, Xie Yu leaned closer to his ear and whispered ambiguously, “Brother, before you left this evening, you told me to wait for you… did you want to do something?”
Pei Yan glared at him speechlessly. This stinky yellow fish!
Complaining aside, Pei Yan was quite honest and leaned in for a kiss. Just as Xie Yu responded eagerly, Pei Yan immediately pulled away, pressed his hands against Xie Yu’s shoulders, and pinned him down onto the bed with a mischievous smirk. “Of course, I wanted to do you.”
Xie Yu: “……”
Did he hear that right? Was Brother trying to pull a reversal?
“Brother!” Xie Yu sat up halfway, hurriedly blocking Pei Yan’s hand as he tried to undress him.
“What? Didn’t you say you’d do anything for me?” Pei Yan raised an eyebrow. “This time I want to be on top. Will you let me?”
As if thinking of something, Xie Yu suddenly gave a brilliant smile and flopped straight back onto the bed, as if he had come to terms with it. “Then go ahead, Brother.”
Pei Yan was actually shocked that he accepted so quickly. But since Xie Yu had agreed, he wasn’t going to be polite. In fact, he had wanted to try the feeling of being on top for a long time; it would surely be exhilarating!
He rubbed his hands together, eyes flashing with excitement as he pounced.
……….
In the end, Pei Yan was indeed on top, but he was also the one bearing the weight.
“…Xie Yu… you bastard… you actually lied to me…”
Pei Yan’s voice was broken and intermittent. His eyes were filled with tears and rimmed with red. As if in a frenzy, he bit down on Xie Yu’s gland, not letting go until his tongue tasted a hint of blood.
“Brother, don’t be afraid. Keep biting.”
The culprit seemed unable to feel the pain, stroking his back and coaxing him.
Pei Yan glared fiercely, his hands leaving one red scratch after another on Xie Yu’s back—menacing and terrifying. “Don’t think I won’t!”
Xie Yu absolutely loved this little expression of his. He self-indulgently pressed his gland against Pei Yan’s mouth. “Brother, feel free to bite.”
Pei Yan: “……”
He finally understood the phrase: “Hitting you only makes you enjoy it more.”
However, since Xie Yu was offering himself up, Pei Yan had no reason to refuse. He opened his mouth and bit down again.
Xie Yu let out a muffled groan as he endured the discomfort, but the next second, he couldn’t help but tilt his head back and sigh in pleasure.
Unable to stand Xie Yu enjoying himself while he felt so stifled, Pei Yan indignantly bit mark after bloody mark onto his body. The result was that not only did he exhaust himself, but Xie Yu’s reaction seemed to get more and more blissful…
Pei Yan was speechless. He was tired. Fine, he gave up.
Whether he was still angry about the marriage alliance with the other Omega or not, Xie Yu didn’t let him go for a long time. Even when Pei Yan’s voice finally went hoarse from begging for mercy, he didn’t stop, continuing his hard work.
He even woke up from a daze once to find that Xie Yu still hadn’t stopped…
Ultimately unable to take it anymore, Pei Yan lost consciousness completely.
Looking at his exhausted features, Xie Yu stroked him gently, his eyes full of lingering tenderness. He planted a devout kiss over Pei Yan’s heart. As if in response, a faint blue light shimmered there, and his fish tail flickered in and out of sight.
Xie Yu reached out to touch that spot cherishingly.
However, the tail was still very fragile. At his light touch, it couldn’t stop trembling.
He withdrew his hand in time and held Pei Yan tightly, falling asleep beside him.
