The Top-Tier Alpha Is Lured and Captured by a Green Tea Merman - Chapter 23
He skimmed the list quickly, trying to memorize everyone on it in one go.
Xie Yu leaned lazily against the edge of the table, his long legs stretched out on the floor. “Commander Pei, there’s no need to be in such a hurry to memorize it.”
“Why?” Pei Yan asked without looking up. “Do you have a better memory method?”
Xie Yu let out a chuckle. “I just wanted to say that if Commander Pei forgets, you can always come back to find me. I won’t refuse you.”
Having memorized the gist of it, Pei Yan looked up and sneered, “But I don’t want to see you again.”
Xie Yu spread his hands innocently. “I’m afraid that won’t work. As long as it involves the people on this list, I have to follow along.”
Pei Yan frowned, but knowing this was the most concession he would get, he said, “Fine, but you are not allowed to disturb me.”
“Consider it done. Everything will be as Commander Pei says.” Xie Yu nodded and gave an ambiguous smile. “However, it’s getting late. We should go back and rest. I miss the one waiting for me at home.”
Perhaps it was because of the help he’d received, or perhaps because he thought of the person waiting for him at home as well, but Pei Yan took a rare initiative and asked, “Are you married?”
“Not yet.” Xie Yu shook his head with a light laugh. “But soon.”
“Quite confident, aren’t you?”
“That’s for sure. He can only belong to me.”
Pei Yan remained noncommittal.
The two walked out of the room one after another. Lu Xiao looked at Pei Yan with concern, and the latter shook his head to reassure him.
“Go back and rest first. I’ve accepted this case.”
Lu Xiao started, “Then tomorrow I—”
Before he could finish, Xie Yu interrupted, “I’ve already reserved the position of Commander Pei’s assistant. Besides, this is a private matter of our Underground City. General Lu had better not interfere.”
Lu Xiao: “…”
He was now somewhat certain who this person was.
The body was sent to be cremated, and after saying their goodbyes, the soldiers dispersed. The seaside returned to its usual tranquility.
When he returned home, Pei Yan indeed saw Xie Yu waiting for him with a nightlight on. Seeing him, Xie Yu immediately broke into a happy smile, without a trace of impatience from the long wait.
Pei Yan’s heart softened. He took off his clothes and climbed into bed. Xie Yu immediately reached out, pulling him onto his lap and hugging him, nuzzling his cheek like a small animal.
“I’ll buy you a phone and a personal wristband so it’s easier to contact me.”
Xie Yu pulled back, his eyes full of surprise. “Really?”
Pei Yan chuckled. “Really.”
“Brother, you’re the best!”
Xie Yu was beyond words with excitement, showering Pei Yan with kisses and hugs.
Once his emotions calmed down a bit, Pei Yan continued, “I’ve been busy with missions lately, so I might come home late. If you miss me… uh, if anything happens, you can call me.”
“Okay, Brother.”
His mouth was obedient and well-behaved, but his hands began to wander restlessly from Pei Yan’s waist upward. A look of desire gradually clouded his eyes. “Brother, you haven’t taken off your gemstone chest chain yet. Why don’t I help you?”
Without waiting for Pei Yan’s consent, his hand slid past the abdomen, moving upward. The body beneath his palm trembled slightly. Pei Yan quickly grabbed his wrist and hissed through gritted teeth, “Is your head filled with nothing but doing that sort of thing with me?”
The mischievous hand did not stop. Xie Yu leaned into Pei Yan’s gland and took a deep breath, looking like someone under a magic spell. “I just like Brother too much. I like you so much that I want to be with you every second, making sure your body is always stained with my scent.”
Pei Yan: “…”
He felt as though he had provoked someone truly terrifying.
Over the next few days, Pei Yan began his investigation, but as expected, he found nothing.
Could I have taken the wrong path? Does the case have nothing to do with the people on the list?
As he was thinking, his phone suddenly rang. It was Xie Yu; they had exchanged numbers after Pei Yan bought him the phone a few days ago.
“Hello? What is it?”
There was no answer from the other end, but the background noise was very chaotic.
A sense of unease rose in Pei Yan’s heart. He frowned and shouted, “Xie Yu?”
Still, no one spoke, but he could vaguely hear a few discordant curses.
Pei Yan repeated Xie Yu’s name again. Only then did the other man seem to hear him, mumbling brokenly, “Brother… I feel so bad…”
Taking advantage of the response, Pei Yan immediately asked, “Where are you?”
The line went silent again.
Pei Yan hung up immediately and called Uncle Xu, only to have Pei Li answer instead. His expression turned cold instantly. “Why are you here?”
Pei Li didn’t answer him directly, only saying nonchalantly, “I imagine your Omega is already rolling in the sheets with someone else.”
“You did this?!” Pei Yan was completely enraged. “What exactly do you want? I already met with Gu Xibai as you ordered.”
“As you should have,” Pei Li said calmly. “But I also told you to break off contact with that Omega by your side. You refused to listen, so I had to take matters into my own hands.”
Pei Yan clenched his fists. “Where is he?!”
Pei Li checked the time, sensing it was about right. Perhaps his dear son could still catch the final scene. He gave a location, and Pei Yan rushed there in his car.
On the way, he couldn’t help but imagine many terrible outcomes. His heart pounded wildly, even aching slightly. He would make sure those who bullied Xie Yu had no place left to die!
Arriving at the bar, Pei Yan ignored the manager’s fawning and headed straight for a private booth. At the critical moment, the hand he reached out was trembling uncontrollably; he was afraid of seeing something he couldn’t bear.
But he couldn’t delay. Wasting a single second could cause more harm to Xie Yu. He braced himself and pushed the door open with all his strength.
To his surprise, not a single person in the room was standing. Everyone was sprawled on the ground, motionless, though upon closer inspection, he could see their chests heaving. Xie Yu was slumped over a low table, eyes blinking dazed. Once he recognized the newcomer, he called out aggrievedly, “Brother…”
Pei Yan’s heart twinged. He walked over. The floor was covered in wine bottles and spilled liquor. His face changed as he pressed the back of his hand to Xie Yu’s forehead—it was hot. “Did they force you to drink?”
Xie Yu could no longer understand his words; he was simply expressing his discomfort, rubbing his forehead against Pei Yan’s hand repeatedly. “Brother… it hurts…”
Pei Yan immediately pulled Xie Yu’s arm over his shoulder and looked at the bewildered manager. “Clean this up.”
With that, he supported Xie Yu to leave.
However, just as they were about to exit, their path was blocked by an ill-intentioned Alpha, followed by a few Alpha lackeys. They looked incredibly arrogant.
“Yo, is this little beauty drunk? Do you want me to help you hold him?”
As he spoke, he reached out, wanting to stroke Xie Yu’s face.
At the same time, several Alpha suppression pheromones were released into the air.
Pei Yan’s eyes gradually turned icy.
It was the base instinct of Alphas—they loved to release pheromones to suppress other Alphas or Omegas to gain the pleasure of subjugation.
But this time, they had picked the wrong person. Pei Yan was in a foul mood and didn’t mind using them to vent his anger, though he needed to finish it quickly given Xie Yu’s condition.
The lead Alpha, thinking Pei Yan was suppressed by their pheromones, gave a snort. He reached out to grab Xie Yu’s arm, but Pei Yan dodged to the side and delivered a fierce kick to the man’s chest.
The Alpha’s obese body flew back more than a meter, crashing into a table of stacked wine glasses. With a deafening shatter, glass shards and wine flew everywhere, startling the nearby patrons who were drinking and dancing.
The Alpha landed sideways on the broken glass, his body slashed in several places as blood began to pool beneath him.
The manager, who had just finished dealing with one thorny issue, hurried over again. His vision went dark the moment he saw Pei Yan—How is it him again?!
But looking at the person lying on the ground, his heart trembled. What kind of day was this, for him to encounter such disastrous bad luck!
On one side was a Senior Commander of the Alliance Command Center; on the other was the nephew of the Director of the Imperial Research Center. Neither side was someone to be trifled with—either they held high status themselves or had powerful backers. Neither was someone he could afford to offend.
Seeing this, the Alpha lackeys looked panicked. They hadn’t expected anyone to fight back. They shouted, “Do you know who Young Master Xue is? Do you know who’s backing him?”
“I don’t care who he is.”
Pei Yan looked up coldly, his voice devoid of emotion.
The manager wiped his sweat and smiled apologetically. “Gentlemen, let’s talk this out. Don’t let tempers flare and ruin the harmony.”
At that moment, Xie Yu groaned in discomfort. Fearing he might transform on the spot, Pei Yan moved to leave, only to be blocked again by the Alpha who had just been floored.
“You think you can just leave after hurting me?”
He was being helped up by a waiter. He was covered in blood, with several shards of glass embedded in his waist, but he pulled them out as if they were nothing and tossed them aside.
Pei Yan frowned. This man was surprisingly resilient.
Is it because the layer of fat is so thick that it didn’t hit anything vital?
And the Xie Yu who was being held—who had seemingly been dead drunk—suddenly opened his eyes. There was not a hint of intoxication in them; his pitch-black pupils flickered with a chilling, piercing light.
This person has the scent of a merman on him.
The surrounding area was blocked off. The several Alphas were acting arrogant. Xue Xu stood in the middle and said fiercely, “You aren’t walking out of here today.”
The manager was pacing circles in anxiety. “You two…”
The moment he spoke, Xue Xu shifted toward Xie Yu’s side. A lewd expression hung on his fat face, his breathing becoming heavy as he thought of something. “Of course, if you give this beauty to me, I might consider letting you go.”
Pei Yan narrowed his eyes and barked, “Get lost!”
A sinister look appeared in Xue Xu’s eyes. The surrounding Alphas closed in, creating a heavy sense of pressure. “Don’t refuse a polite offer only to be forced!”
“Do you realize you are violating Alliance law?”
“Ha, Alliance law? What kind of crap is that?” Xue Xu said disdainfully. “I only know the Imperial Royalty.”
Pei Yan’s expression grew even colder. He pulled out a gun and pressed it against the man’s head. To his surprise, Xue Xu wasn’t afraid at all; he even leaned closer. “Heh, you think you dare to fire? My uncle is the Emperor’s favorite, the Director of the Research Center. He holds the safety of the entire nation in his hands. You dare kill me?”
The atmosphere between them was at a standstill, a powder keg ready to blow.
“Brother…”
Xie Yu broke the silence, calling out hazily.
“Aye,” Xue Xu responded immediately, looking intoxicated. “That ‘Brother’ sounds so sweet. I bet it sounds just as good in bed, hahaha!”
Xie Yu: “…”
He suddenly straightened his body, swaying slightly. “Brother, I need to go to the bathroom…”
Xue Xu reached out eagerly. “Eh, ‘Brother’ will go with you.”
However, the smile on his face didn’t last for more than a few seconds before it froze. He felt as though he could no longer move.
Pei Yan didn’t notice this abnormality. He put away his gun and supported Xie Yu. “Then I’ll go with you.”
Xie Yu shook his head, looking very well-behaved. “No need. I can go by myself.”
