After rushing to the hospital, they ran a bunch of tests. The doctor said, “Nothing serious. He just needs an IV.”
Cheng Kaixin asked, “Will the medicine he took hurt him?”
“Medicine?” The doctor glanced at him. “He didn’t take any medicine.”
“Then why is he still unconscious after all this?”
“Unconscious? That’s right.” The doctor chuckled. “Because he’s drunk.”
Cheng Kaixin stared blankly.
Noticing Cheng Kaixin’s own boozy breath, the doctor gave him a disapproving look. “Young man, you should take it easy. Don’t drink random stuff just to try it. That ‘date rape’ alcohol that’s been going around online lately has an extremely high alcohol content. We’ve had so many people hospitalized because of it. Some even needed their stomachs pumped.”
“Judging by your condition, you’ve had quite a bit yourself, haven’t you? Maybe you should get an IV too?”
Cheng Kaixin shook his head. “No need. I didn’t drink that stuff.”
Three hours later, after finishing the IV drip, Qin Yunran started to wake up.
Cheng Kaixin gently patted his cheek. “Open your eyes. Do you know who I am?”
Qin Yunran struggled to lift his eyelids. “…Ah Hua.”
Cheng Kaixin smiled. “Calling me so affectionately?” He pinched Qin Yunran’s cheek.
“It hurts,” Qin Yunran mumbled, his lashes drooping, looking inexplicably aggrieved.
Cheng Kaixin’s lips twitched. He turned to the doctor and asked, “He doesn’t seem quite right.”
The doctor lifted Qin Yunran’s eyelid for a quick examination. “He’s fine. It’s just his constitution; he’s recovering slowly. Give him some hangover soup or honey water when you get home, and make sure he rests well.”
“Alright, thanks. We’ll be going now.”
“Wait a moment,” the doctor called after them.
“What is it?”
The doctor adjusted his reading glasses and chuckled. “Since he’s awake, could he sign an autograph for me? My daughter’s a big fan.”
This old man’s quite amusing, Cheng Kaixin thought. He agreed on Qin Yunran’s behalf and pressed a pen into his hand. “Sign here.”
Qin Yunran stared blankly at the pen. “No, too tired.”
“Just sign your name! It’s not hard,” Cheng Kaixin said impatiently, nudging him.
“Won’t sign,” Qin Yunran insisted.
Cheng Kaixin scoffed. “Getting rowdy when you’re drunk, huh?”
“Maybe we should just forget it,” the doctor said, looking a little embarrassed.
“It’s fine,” Cheng Kaixin said, rolling up his sleeves. “Just wait, I’ll help you sign.”
When the secretary returned with the paperwork, he found Cheng Kaixin holding Qin Yunran’s hand, forcing him to write.
After Qin Yunran finished signing, he threw down the pen and glared at Cheng Kaixin, his face full of resentment. Cheng Kaixin poked his cheek and threatened, “Keep glaring at me and I’ll make you sign a hundred more times.”
The secretary was speechless.
Just moments ago, he had been marveling at how good the Boss was to Qin Yunran.
Back in the car, Qin Yunran leaned against the seat and grumbled, “Signing is so tiring. My hand always hurts afterward.”
He must have signed too many times. Being drunk had brought out all his pent-up resentment. Cheng Kaixin tried to comfort him, “You’re done signing now. You don’t have to sign anymore.”
Qin Yunran sighed. “I’m done signing today, but I’ll have to sign again next time.”
He’s not stupid after all, Cheng Kaixin thought with a smile. I thought he’d lost his mind.
Qin Yunran continued to complain, “You pinched my cheek so hard earlier. It still hurts.”
Cheng Kaixin chuckled. “What do you want me to do about it?”
Qin Yunran stared at him, then suddenly reached out and pinched Cheng Kaixin’s cheek. He rubbed his fingertips together a few times, then declared with satisfaction, “That’s better.”
Cheng Kaixin’s cheek stung. The kid had quite a grip.
“…Fine,” he relented, deciding to let it slide since Qin Yunran wasn’t thinking straight.
Seeing Cheng Kaixin’s leniency, Qin Yunran slowly added, “My eyes hurt too…”
The doctor had checked his eyes half an hour ago, yet he still remembered.
You’re so demanding, Cheng Kaixin thought.
Qin Yunran continued, “Blow on them for me.”
Cheng Kaixin placed his hand behind Qin Yunran’s neck. Qin Yunran’s eyes lit up as he leaned closer.
Cheng Kaixin pressed his hand against the back of Qin Yunran’s head and muttered to the System, “He’s being too annoying. I should just knock him out.”
“No!” the System panicked, realizing his dangerous plan. “He’ll… he’ll become stupid! Be nice to the protagonist!”
But once Cheng Kaixin made up his mind, nothing could change it. He gradually increased the pressure. Just then, Qin Yunran’s face drew near, his dark, resentful eyes fixed on Cheng Kaixin, reflecting the flashing streetlights outside the car window like glowing orbs.
Cheng Kaixin’s hand froze, the pressure releasing.
You’re only getting away with your charm because you’re good-looking, Cheng Kaixin thought, a smirk tugging at his lips.
System: Huh, the protagonist is saved. It must be my heartfelt advice that made Cheng Kaixin realize the error of his ways.
Cheng Kaixin gently blew on Qin Yunran’s eyelids.
Up close, his eyelashes fluttered like butterfly wings.
Qin Yunran slowly blinked and said, “Why did you drink? The alcohol smell is so strong.” He covered his nose.
The smile on Cheng Kaixin’s lips froze.
Cheng Kaixin: My murderous intent is rising.
Qin Yunran lowered his hand and said, “But it’s okay. I don’t mind.”
He then kissed Cheng Kaixin’s cheek, the sound echoing loudly in the car.
The secretary, who had been secretly watching from the front seat, widened his eyes in horror, causing the car to swerve.
Qin Yunran lost his balance and fell against Cheng Kaixin, smacking his lips and muttering, “Alcohol smell.”
Then he nestled against Cheng Kaixin’s shoulder and fell asleep.
Cheng Kaixin glared at the secretary. “Do you want us all to die?”
The secretary stammered, “I’m sorry! I’m sorry!”
Did I just see something I shouldn’t have?!
Cheng Kaixin pressed a finger to his lips and chuckled softly. “Too bad I didn’t record that. I’d love to show it to him when he wakes up. I wonder what his expression would be.”
The System, desperately trying to forget the scene, pleaded, “Please, just let the protagonist be.”
When they reached Cheng Kaixin’s door, the secretary hesitated. “Boss, I have Qu Wen’s number. Should I call him to come pick up Qin Yunran?”
This boss didn’t seem like the type to take care of people. And after what just happened, he suddenly didn’t dare let Qin Yunran inside alone with him!
Qin Yunran suddenly woke up and mumbled, “He went to his mother-in-law’s house. He can’t come. I’ll just crash at your place for the night.”
Seeing that Qin Yunran’s mind seemed clear and he didn’t look like he needed looking after, Cheng Kaixin told the secretary to leave.
But just as he was unlocking the door, Qin Yunran suddenly slumped against his back, resting his chin on Cheng Kaixin’s shoulder. “I feel so dizzy,” he mumbled.
Great, he’s still drunk, Cheng Kaixin thought resignedly. He opened the door, dragged the large human-sized doll behind him, and tossed Qin Yunran onto the sofa.
“Sit still,” he said, pressing Qin Yunran down. “I’ll get you some water.”
“Okay. Hurry up,” Qin Yunran nodded obediently.
Since Auntie had returned to take care of his meals and household chores, the house had been stocked with more things. There should be honey. Cheng Kaixin opened the cabinet to look for honey when he heard Qin Yunran drawl from the living room, “I’m hungry. I want cake.”
“There’s none,” Cheng Kaixin replied.
“Mousse cake. You definitely have it. You gave me some last time.”
Cheng Kaixin found the honey, mixed a glass of honey water, and slammed it down in front of Qin Yunran. “No mousse cake. This is sweet too. Drink it and go to sleep.”
Qin Yunran took a sip, shook his head, and set the glass back down. “Not sweet enough.”
Cheng Kaixin narrowed his eyes. “Are you drunk or just being a brat?” He’d never had to wait on someone like this before.
The System, terrified he’d force the drink down Qin Yunran’s throat, quickly intervened. “He’s drunk, Kaixin. Cut him some slack. You can yell at him tomorrow when he’s sober!”
Cheng Kaixin clicked his tongue and went to the kitchen.
Qin Yunran’s gaze followed him intently. When Cheng Kaixin returned with a jar, he asked, “What’s that?”
“You wanted something sweet, right?” Cheng Kaixin scooped out a huge spoonful of honey and held it to Qin Yunran’s mouth. “Eat up.”
Qin Yunran stared at the spoon for a moment, then opened his mouth and ate. A few seconds later, he frowned pitifully. “Too sweet.”
The System: “……” Of course it’s too sweet. That was a whole spoonful of honey!
Cheng Kaixin pointed to the glass of water. “Too sweet? Drink some water.”
Qin Yunran gulped down the entire glass, then asked for two more, finally washing away the cloying sweetness.
Cheng Kaixin tapped the side of the glass, satisfied. “Good. That’s like three glasses of honey water.” Now let it all mix together in your stomach.
The System fell silent.
The protagonist had fallen into Cheng Kaixin’s hands, and the situation was truly unbearable to witness.
After finishing his drink, Qin Yunran’s eyelids began to droop again, his vision blurring.
“Wait a minute. Let’s clean you up before you sleep,” Cheng Kaixin said, wringing out a towel to wipe Qin Yunran’s face. Seeing how exhausted he was, Cheng Kaixin added, “You can sleep here.”
The System protested, “Sleeping on the sofa will be uncomfortable. You should move him to the bedroom.”
“Ugh, my back hurts too much. I don’t have the strength,” Cheng Kaixin groaned, clutching his lower back weakly.
The System: Never mind.
Steam filled the bathroom as Cheng Kaixin showered. Listening to the sound of running water, the System silently mused: If the female lead were taking care of the protagonist, she would gently and patiently feed him water and help him change his dirty clothes. If things progressed quickly enough, she might even help him bathe, leading to them sharing a bed… What a perfect opportunity, completely wasted.
The water stopped. Cheng Kaixin changed into his pajamas, towel-drying his wet hair as he walked into the bedroom. He had also drunk quite a bit of alcohol and spent most of the night running around for Qin Yunran. Collapsing onto the bed, he quickly drifted off to sleep.
How long had passed? In his hazy consciousness, he suddenly sensed something was wrong. His eyes snapped open, and he saw a dark figure looming over him.
Moonlight streamed through the curtains, casting a soft, gauzy glow into the room.
This ethereal light bathed Qin Yunran’s face, making him seem like a piece of jade steeped in moonlight, radiating a luminous, pearly sheen.
His voice, as clear as the moonlight, flowed gently into Cheng Kaixin’s ears. “I’ve been waiting for you all day. Why haven’t you come to find me?”
Cheng Kaixin slowly shook off the irritation of being woken up. For the sake of that face, he patiently asked, “What would I be doing looking for you in the middle of the night when I should be sleeping?”
Qin Yunran’s tone turned slightly aggrieved. “We promised we’d sleep together.”
Cheng Kaixin paused. “Are you dreaming?”
“Yes, this is a dream,” Qin Yunran sighed. “How else would I be in a scene from Crossing the Line?”
Drunk people never admit they’re drunk, but here was Qin Yunran, remarkably admitting he wasn’t sober.
“What’s Crossing the Line?” Cheng Kaixin was so exasperated he’d lost all patience. He pushed Qin Yunran away. “Fine, then just sleep here with me.”
Unused to being looked down upon, he tried to push Qin Yunran off, but Qin Yunran suddenly grabbed his wrist, his eyes curving into a smile. “Then I won’t hold back,” he said.
And then… a soft, lingering kiss landed on his lips.
The faint, lingering scent of honey instantly filled the air.
