- Chapter 2 - A Warm Embrace
The sea of blood-red flowers cast a crimson reflection across the chilly moonlight, and the scantily clad succubus struck various alluring poses, fully showcasing the unique charm inherent to his kind.
“Huey, be reasonable. If worst comes to worst, why don’t you consider us dark elves? Besides, demons don’t like your tail anyway, but we dark elves can totally accept it. Even our Queen praised you for being cute earlier, and it was actually the Queen who specifically requested you for this live stream.”
During a mid-session break, Sophiel set aside her broadcasting equipment, grabbed a large handful of flower petals to scatter around Huey to create a romantic atmosphere, and earnestly tried to persuade him.
“No way.” Huey shook his head decisively. “I am a succubus with aspirations! My dream is to find a powerful Abyssal demon companion!”
Sophiel sighed in rebuttal, “But most of those demons are bulky and brawny none of them hold a candle to our Queen’s litophaeic, slender, and handsome physique.”
Blinking, Huey replied, “But I’m a succubus! I don’t think a demon’s physique looks bad at all.”
As the two of them were busy slacking off and chatting, they suddenly heard a dark elf shout loudly, “Who are you! How did you get in here?!”
Tonight, the entire field of flowers had been closed off to the public, and logically speaking, only Huey and a few dark elves should have been present.
Turning his head to look, Huey spotted a pitch-black humanoid entity crouching in a corner of the flower field, its surroundings wrapped in swirling black qi that left the nearby red blood flowers looking withered and wilted.
The surrounding dark elves immediately swarmed forward. Even Sophiel drew her bow, aiming it directly at the dark shadow as dense wind elements gathered at the arrowhead, ready to strike at a moment’s notice.
“Huey, stay right here and don’t move.” Dropping those words, Sophiel charged forward.
Huey very sensibly kept his distance from the creature, which looked bizarre at first glance. After all, although succubi were high-ranking demons, they possessed virtually zero combat capability; in situations like this, it was far better to leave things to the professionals.
The dark shadow remained completely motionless within the encirclement of dark elves. Sophiel frantically searched through her memories, but she couldn’t identify what species it possibly could be—it was utterly unseen anywhere in the Underworld!
At that moment, the shadow stirred.
A dense cloud of black mist erupted without warning from within its body, spreading rapidly outward. Before anyone could react, it completely enveloped all the dark elves, silencing them instantly without a single sound.
The black mist expanded at an astonishing speed, threatening to touch Huey in the blink of an eye. Fortunately, Huey reacted quickly; with a flap of his small wings, he darted up into the air.
“Sophiel?”
The black mist seemed incapable of ascending into the upper air, reaching a maximum height of only two meters, where it formed a massive, intensely concentrated black space hovering over the flower field.
Huey frowned. He couldn’t hear Sophiel’s movements at all, unsure whether it was because the black mist possessed sound-dampening properties or because they had already fallen into danger.
The entire flower field had been cleared of idlers long before the broadcast, so aside from Huey in the sky, everyone else had been swallowed by the black mist. There was no telling when the dark elves stationed outside might realize something was amiss.
Sliding his left hand across his ruby ring, Huey summoned a leather whip into his palm. Flapping his small wings to descend until the whip could reach the black mist, he tentatively channeled magic into the lash and brought it down in a strike against the dark fog.
The black mist actually split open beneath the whip, revealing a faint fissure through which several dark elves could be vaguely seen collapsed on the ground, their fates unknown. Moreover, the fissure carved out by the strike did not close back up, as if that specific patch of black mist had been thoroughly shattered and dispersed.
A dead silence hung over the surroundings. Biting his lip in apprehension, Huey wrapped his tail tightly around his thigh and mustered up his courage, bringing the whip down in another strike. The black mist dispersed even further, yet still produced no sound or movement.
Huey’s confidence gradually grew. Even if he couldn’t be sure whether those dark elves were still alive, he figured he might as well scatter this black mist and drag them out first.
Whip blow after whip blow rained down. Just as Huey was getting close enough to hook the dark elves out using the tip of his whip, a sudden transformation occurred.
The black mist rippled violently, as if provoked. This time, it expanded upward.
Before Huey could even gain altitude, a sky-full of black mist lunged straight at him, swallowing him whole.
A wave of overwhelming terror battered the poor succubus. Terrified, he closed his eyes, the little heart-shaped tail wrapped around his thigh trembling uncontrollably.
Yet, the anticipated darkness and bone-chilling cold never arrived. Instead, a pair of warm, powerful arms locked securely around the succubus’s slender waist, pressing his soft, flushed cheek against a hard chest. An indescribable, refreshing fragrance enveloped Huey completely.
His long eyelashes fluttering slightly, Huey cautiously opened his eyes. Upon catching sight of the person holding him, the little heart-shaped tails in his eyes burst into brilliant radiance, and pink heart-shaped bubbles materialized, drifting up from the small succubus’s head.
Good heavens! This lord is unquestionably the most handsome demon in the entire Underworld!
Look at those profound eye sockets and charming eyes, that straight bridge of the nose, those soft, thin lips, and this smile that could drive a demon to madness…
This has to be Satan’s most flawless masterpiece!
Huey’s face flushed a deep crimson, and his body began radiating a sweet, mouth-watering, seductive honey scent completely lacking any sense of modesty.
“Are you alright?” A gentle voice resonated right beside Huey’s ear.
“N—not very well,” Huey answered in a dizzy, floating daze.
The man frowned slightly, his gentle gaze sweeping over Huey from head to toe. His dark, deep eyes were unfathomably alluring as he seemed somewhat puzzled. “I arrived in time, and those things shouldn’t have harmed you. Could you tell me where you’re injured?”
Long strands of dark-golden hair cascaded down, brushing softly against Huey’s burning cheeks and bringing a wisp of crisp, refreshing coolness like a mountain spring in the dead of summer that soothes body and soul.
“My—my heart is beating so fast…”
Oh heavens, what am I saying?! Huey mentally berated himself in a panic, I must be the least professionally competent demon in the entire succubus realm.
The handsome lord chuckled softly, sending a wave of tingles shooting through half of Huey’s body. Well, the other half was still clinging stubbornly and firmly to the man.
Completely lost in the man’s devastating good looks, Huey didn’t even realize they had landed back on the ground, nor that the bizarre black entity had vanished without a trace, until someone prompted him back to reality.
“My lord, I’m so sorry.” Flushing with shame, Huey lowered his head and retreated from the warm embrace.
“It’s no matter.” The man shook his head, pausing for a moment before asking, “However, might I trouble you to remove your tail?”
Tail? The tail!
Huey snatched his tail back in a flash, hiding it behind his backside. This damned, utterly brazen tail! Who knew when it had started wrapping itself around that lord’s wrist, actually tightening so much it left a faint red mark! Heaven knew where that tail got so much strength from.
Covering his platinum-blonde little heart-shaped tail with both hands, Huey felt a pang of despondency. Having seen a heart-shaped tail of this exact color, this lord surely had zero interest in him now.
“A very cute tail.”
The gentle voice sounded from directly above Huey’s head. Lifting his gaze in pleasant surprise, Huey saw the handsome lord smiling warmly, his eyes crinkling with amusement. “Just a bit too enthusiastic.”
“D—do you not think the color of my tail is ugly?” Huey blurted out, summoning his courage. As a powerful Abyssal demon, he surely must find such a tail hideous.
The man smiled and shook his head. “How could I? I think it’s lovely.”
This was the first high-ranking demon who had ever complimented his tail!
Thrilled beyond measure, Huey lost all control over his tail. Thrilled out of his wits, it darted out from between his hands, eagerly trying to coil itself affectionately around the man once more—thankfully intercepted just in time by Huey’s lightning-fast grab.
“Ahem, we should probably figure out how to save them first.”
Flustered at receiving praise for his tail for the very first time, Huey gripped his restless tail for dear life and stiffly changed the subject.
The dark elves were still alive, just unconscious. Huey attempted to rouse them using magic, but unfortunately, all his efforts failed, leaving him temporarily at his wits’ end.
“These are dark elves, aren’t they?” Glancing at them casually, the man remarked, “It’s fine. Just place them beneath the Mother Tree, and they’ll recover after resting for a few days.”
Huey nodded with a half-understanding expression.
Turning his head to survey the surroundings, the man gave a light laugh. “Company is coming.”
With that, he unfolded his wings. Unlike those of other demons, his wings were entirely composed of black feathers, reflecting a dark, luxurious sheen under the moonlight.
“I must be going now.” He winked at Huey. “After all, I didn’t buy a ticket.”
“My lord!” Huey called out, asking with a blushing face, “My name is Huey. Might I have the honor of knowing your name?”
Black feathered wings enfolded the powerful demon, vanishing from the sea of flowers in the blink of an eye. Only a single gentle voice lingered softly in Huey’s ear.
“Xavier, my name.”
A single dark feather drifted down from the air, landing softly right into the little succubus’s palm, feather-light and extraordinarily soft.
