- Chapter 13 - Brother Ning, It Is Up to You
The holiday time passed exceptionally fast. On Monday, back at school, Lin Yan, who had a temperament for taking immediate action, confirmed the plan with his seatmate once more.
“Are you really agreeing to help me tutor those lackeys of mine?” After spending over a month together, Lin Yan knew Ning Youji was a man of his word.
Seeing how enthusiastic he was, Ning Youji found it a bit amusing and gave a hum of affirmation. Having received a definite answer, Lin Yan fished his phone out from his desk drawer and pulled up his “lackey group.” Cloud was truly a convenient invention.
The group was usually organized by Jiang Xue. Besides Lin Yan, there were three other managers and a total of 120 members. When he logged in, the group members were still chatting about everything under the sun. Lin Yan composed his message.
@All Members Group Notice: Bring your math books and pens to the old playground tonight at 9:00 PM for tutoring. For those who do not show up, Brother Lin will personally let you experience the extreme pleasure of being pressed into the ground. I will also include a complimentary set of Lin-style Bone-Stretching Overlord Punches.
The group fell silent for three seconds. Then, replies started trickling in.
“Brother Lin, I am on sick leave today. I am not at school.” “I broke my leg yesterday, Brother Lin. I cannot make it today.” “Brother Lin, I am also taking leave. My mother is having a second child, and I must go back to help.” “Brother Lin, Brother Lin! My father is having a third child today. I just took leave and am on my way home now.”
As the lackeys packed their things, they lamented in their hearts that being a delinquent’s subordinate these days was truly not easy. They had actually stooped to the level of remedial classes.
Lin Yan felt he finally understood the hardships of being a mother. He was racking his brains because he could not actually drag them all out for a beating, considering how many people there were. Resting his chin on his hand, his peripheral vision caught Ning Youji’s handsome profile.
An inappropriate thought popped into his head. He felt that if he used Ning Youji as bait, it was only because Ning Youji had a face that both humans and animals could not help but trust. A mischievous smile curled onto Lin Yan’s lips as his distinct fingers tapped happily on the screen.
Lin Ba-ba: I originally invited Ning Youji to teach you all. What a shame then.
The horde of lackeys replied with a flood of exclamation marks.
“I am cured! I will see you at 9:00 PM, rain or shine!” “My mother gave birth! She heard about the tutoring and told me to hurry up!” “My father gave birth too, but he is strong and does not need me!” “The School Boss and the School Idol are out here to save all sentient beings!”
Lin Yan nodded in satisfaction and patted his seatmate’s shoulder, wearing a gratified smile. “We are going to save all sentient beings. There is no one in this world who looks out for others as much as I do.”
Ning Youji remained silent. The second the words left Lin Yan’s mouth, the back door was slammed open. Jiang Xue lunged toward Lin Yan’s desk like a cannonball.
“Brother Lin, you are going to—”
Anticipating what Jiang Xue was about to say, Lin Yan clamped a hand over his mouth, signaling him not to spread the news too loudly. Jiang Xue made a few muffled noises to indicate he understood. Both pulled out their phones simultaneously and began typing. Watching from the side, Ning Youji let out a faint smile. In the group, Lin Yan started making arrangements.
Lin Ba-ba: This time the tutoring is specifically for the sophomores. Brother Xue: There are 82 sophomores in total. If 50 show up, it is a rare opportunity.
The two of them worked in tandem and finally got the tutoring session organized. Lin Yan thought of something, and after a few seconds of hesitation, his gaze swept over his seatmate.
“Do you want to join the group?” Before Ning Youji could answer, Lin Yan continued with a tone of promise and anticipation. “If you join, you are a manager. I will listen to you.” He paused for a moment and let his voice soften. “Brother Ning, it is up to you.”
Ning Youji lifted his eyelids, and a shallow trace of pleasure appeared in the depths of his eyes. His tone made it sound as though he were reluctantly agreeing for Lin Yan’s sake.
“Sure.”
Ning Youji’s Cloud ID was usually just left on the forums for people to admire because no one dared to add him. Lin Yan was the first friend Ning Youji had added at school. A notification appeared stating that Ning Youji had joined the group.
“Which idiot is imitating my Brother Ning’s username?” “Crap, check the school forum. The comma is prohibited because it is exclusive to our Top Scholar Ning.” “Did someone sneak in because they heard Brother Ning is teaching? Sorry, but you must get in line!”
Ning Youji noted that even though they were academic slackers, it did not stop them from idolizing an academic god. Especially now that their Big Brother was getting so close to the scholar, they had subconsciously started considering Ning Youji one of their own.
As the messages flashed by faster and faster, Lin Yan muted the entire group. Then, he set Ning Youji as a manager. Once everything was settled, Lin Yan reminded his seatmate to introduce himself.
Ning Youji hummed an agreement. A few seconds later, he typed, “Hello everyone, I am Ning Youji.”
Just as Ning Youji was typing, Lin Yan unmuted the group. A long string of exclamation marks flooded the chat, followed by a wave of exaggerated flattery.
“Brother Lin is mighty! My whole family is shocked!” “Screenshot this! I am in the same frame as the Top Scholar!” “No way! Did Brother Lin really capture Scholar Ning?” “In the future, should we call him Brother Ning or Sister-in-law Ning?” “Ba-ba truly is my Ba-ba!”
Lin Yan felt that his lackeys had concerning intelligence levels. He typed, “Stop! Where are you guys even going with this? From now on, everyone, including me, must listen to Brother Ning!”
Behind their screens, the lackeys all nodded in unison with expressions of understanding.
“Brother Ning, do not bully our Ba-ba too hard. It is his first time.” “Yes, our Ba-ba has never been in a relationship since he was a child. He is very pure.” “Ba-ba, listen to Brother Ning well from now on and stop fooling around.”
The lackeys felt like they were finally marrying off a daughter who had been stuck at home. Lin Yan was speechless. Seeing this, a smile played on Ning Youji’s lips. He usually did not like to smile, but when he did, the sunlight from the window hit his profile and made him look as if he were glowing. Lin Yan happened to look up and see it, and the irritation that had just flared in his eyes gradually faded away.
After the second period of evening self-study, several dozen people stood outside the door of Class 7. These students were all familiar faces who typically slept in class, skipped school, and extorted younger students. Some had even been publicly criticized by the school. Now that they were gathered together, their aura was immense. Anyone who did not know better would think they were going to a gang fight.
Lin Yan and Ning Youji walked out of the classroom one after the other. Lin Yan had told them not to make a scene, so only the 120 people in the group knew about the plan. Lin Yan was feeling quite grand today, and in his excitement, he slung an arm around Ning Youji’s shoulder like they were the best of friends.
The surrounding students watched in horror. Seeing their Top Scholar Ning being held by School Boss Lin, their hearts shattered. They assumed the School Boss was going to make a big move. With so many people against one person, they feared there would be nothing left of him.
The crowd surrounded Lin Yan and Ning Youji as they moved toward the old playground. The group stayed tightly packed as if they were afraid their prey would escape. At least, that is how it looked to the onlookers.
The sports representative, Han An, swallowed hard and asked Li Xingming how the Class Monitor had offended the School Boss. Li Xingming was also dazed because they had been fighting side by side just yesterday. Han An suggested notifying a teacher before the Monitor was overwhelmed.
Before Li Xingming could act, many of Ning Youji’s admirers had already rushed to the Academic Affairs Office. The teacher on patrol happened to be Wang Fenghai. Seeing Supervisor Wang, the group looked as if they had found their savior.
“Teacher, it is bad! Lin Yan is gathering a crowd to fight again! They are probably fighting right now! The person they are attacking is Scholar Ning!”
Wang Fenghai was drowsy, but the mention of Lin Yan cleared his sleepiness. Hearing Ning Youji’s name made him completely alert. He wondered if Lin Yan had exploded under academic pressure because of the study group. He rushed toward the old playground, followed by a crowd of onlookers.
Though the playground was old, the night lights were on. In the center of the field, someone had pre-arranged a large blackboard. The group of imposing youths were sitting in rows, obediently holding their books and staring at the front.
When Wang Fenghai arrived, the scene was exceptionally quiet. He took a long breath and charged forward, shouting for them to stop. At his roar, the students all turned their heads. They were not guilty and did not run; they were simply confused.
When Wang Fenghai walked to the front, he saw Lin Yan and Ning Youji standing by the blackboard. The light shone on their faces, making the picture look quite pleasing to the eye. The two boys each held a math book.
The scene fell silent. Wang Fenghai and Lin Yan stared at each other for a moment. Finally, Wang Fenghai looked at the students behind him. The troublemakers were now each holding a math book.
Wang Fenghai shouted, “What are you doing?”
The School Boss saw Wang Fenghai and gave a sarcastic smile. He shook the math book in his hand and asked, “Teacher, what do you think we are doing?”
Beside him, Ning Youji walked over and squeezed Lin Yan’s shoulder. He smiled at Wang Fenghai and looked like a perfectly obedient student.
“Teacher, why are you here? Are we being too loud?”
Wang Fenghai had not expected this. He asked if they were teaching, and Ning Youji confirmed it. He explained that Lin Yan wanted to make progress with them and he had agreed to help.
“Good, making progress together is good. I knew long ago that Lin Yan was a good student,” Wang Fenghai said as he backed away awkwardly. He told them not to stay too late and left.
The students cheered because it was the first time they had repelled a teacher. The onlookers were shocked to realize this was a public lecture. Eventually, more people gathered at the old playground.
Lin Yan looked up at Ning Youji, who was focused on explaining a problem. The boy’s fingers were long and slender, and his handwriting was clean and sharp. Lin Yan thought to himself that it was no wonder the girls and Omegas were so infatuated. He was excessively talented and handsome, and Lin Yan was starting to feel a bit jealous.
