- The Simp’s Heart is Sealed in Cement; The Demon Lord Falls Hard!
- Chapter 6 - The Treatment of an Abandoned Concubine in the Cold Palace is Worse Than a Dog's
During the days he spent in a coma, Su Mo did not have it easy. His consciousness remained perpetually hazy, and the aftereffects of having his spiritual root extracted began to manifest. As a possessor of the “Pure Yang” constitution, his internal Yang-fire was naturally robust; he feared neither heat nor cold. Yet, in his comatose state, he felt his body alternatively freezing in ice and snow, then burning as if thrown into a furnace.
Ye Lin, who kept a constant vigil by his bedside, had cried until her eyes were nearly blind. Su Mo’s body fluctuated between being scorchingly hot and as cold as a corpse, while he muttered incessantly in his delirium about the pain, the cold, and the heat… Having his spiritual root forcibly ripped out was a torturous ordeal. Meanwhile, the wretched Human Emperor spent his days gallivanting with his new love, enjoying the high life using the very body that Su Mo’s spiritual root had saved! How ironic.
“Your Highness… you must pull through… you absolutely cannot let that little bitch get her way. Once you recover, we will leave. We won’t suffer this indignity any longer. I don’t believe that in such a vast world, there isn’t a place for us! Wuu-wuu-wuu… The world is blind for regarding that beast as a sagacious ruler. What kind of ‘sagacious ruler’ is he if he treats the one who sacrificed everything for him this way…”
Ye Lin knelt by the bed, weeping and cursing while channeling her own spiritual energy into Su Mo.
Su Mo awoke from the chaos to hear these seditious words from his loyal little maid.
“Linlin… how many times have I told you? Trouble comes from the tongue… cough, cough, cough… My throat is so dry. Could you pour me a cup of water?” He gave a helpless, light laugh, speaking with great difficulty. As he spoke, his throat felt as if countless razor blades were scraping against it, so painful that his throat felt like it was smoking.
“Wuu-wuu-wuu… Your Highness, you’ve finally woken up… This servant will get you water right away!” Overcome with immense joy, Ye Lin wept uncontrollably as she stumbled off to fetch water.
It took two full pots of warm water for Su Mo to feel as though he had come back to life. His body felt incredibly weak, and when he tried to absorb the surrounding spiritual energy, he realized with a start that his Dantian was devoid of any essence; it was only then that the reality of having his spiritual root extracted fully sank in.
Previously, with Ye Lin channeling energy into him, he hadn’t felt the cold. But after she left to prepare food, he finally realized the biting chill that seeped into his very marrow. So, this was the true temperature of the Fengxin Palace… It really was cold, wasn’t it? Su Mo offered a bitter smile, shivering as he lay idly on the bed.
He wanted to get up to fetch thicker clothing, but his body was too weak even moving his fingers was a struggle. With no other choice, Su Mo could only endure the freezing temperature and continue playing “corpse” in bed. When Ye Lin returned with hot food, all she heard was Su Mo sneezing uncontrollably, trembling so violently that frost had begun to form on his skin.
“Your Highness!”
She frantically set down the food, ran over with red-rimmed eyes, and hurriedly channeled her spiritual energy into him.
“I fear you will have to keep working hard for me from now on… Linlin.” Su Mo sighed helplessly. He hated being a burden to others, but reality left him no choice.
“It’s all the fault of that scum and his bitch… how could they be so cruel…” Ye Lin’s eyes reddened again, looking as if she wanted to bite Wen Muli and Yan Yichen to death.
With Su Mo now possessing the body of an ordinary mortal, he could no longer absorb spiritual energy, and his cultivation would inevitably regress rapidly. Letting him stay in the Fengxin Palace was no different from killing him!
As much as she hated Wen Muli, Ye Lin had no choice but to go and beg for help. However, she found no trace of Wen Muli; instead, she was intercepted outside the main hall.
“The Emperor is not in the hall. Leave,” the lead palace official said, her eyes filled with disdain as she shooed Ye Lin away.
The usually work-obsessed Wen Muli was neglecting his duties. One didn’t need to be a genius to know that he had certainly taken that little bitch Yan Yichen out of the palace for an excursion. No matter how much she hated it, Ye Lin could only swallow her grievances.
“Sister Yanyu, my master has just recovered from a major illness and cannot withstand the cold. Please, show some mercy and have the palace servants send over some Fire-Collection Stones!” She knelt on the ground and bowed three times, her tone filled with humility.
“What a joke. Who in the world doesn’t know that your master is strong and hardy, and doesn’t fear the cold? If you’re going to play the victim, find a better excuse. Now that the demon and beast tribes are constantly encroaching, all regions are cutting budgets to support the front lines. There are no spare materials to satisfy your master’s vanity. Get out, get out, get out!”
The woman called Zhou Yanyu sneered and retorted sarcastically, turning to leave with visible impatience.
Ye Lin felt a coldness in her heart. When Yan Yichen fainted, hundreds of Fire-Collection Stones were hauled into the side hall as if they were worthless. Now, she only wanted a few stones to warm her master’s bedding, yet she was ruthlessly denied. Not only was she denied, but she was also insulted for being “pretentious.” The treatment of an abandoned concubine in the cold palace was indeed worse than a dog’s. It was precisely because of Wen Muli’s attitude that these sycophantic palace servants dared to be so reckless!
“Zhou Yanyu, you stand right there!”
Unable to bear it any longer, Ye Lin roared. Even if she were punished later, she would secure those stones for her master! If she didn’t show her claws, did they really think she was a sick cat?!
“Your Highness, look what I’ve brought you!”
About an hour later, Ye Lin returned, bruised and swollen. Seeing the injuries on her, Su Mo was shocked.
“How did you end up like this!” His heart ached, and he was furious, but his body was so numb from the cold that he could do nothing.
“It’s fine, I just took a tumble on the way. It doesn’t hurt. Look, Your Highness, what is this?” Ye Lin giggled, offering three Fire-Collection Stones to Su Mo as if they were treasures.
It was obvious to anyone with eyes that she had been beaten. Su Mo guessed the sequence of events, and his heart filled with bitterness and anger.
“Who hit you?” Ignoring the stones, he asked in a cold voice.
“No one…” Ye Lin stammered, refusing to tell the truth.
“Ye Lin! You’ve suffered so much serving me all these years… I can be treated coldly, but I will absolutely not tolerate them bullying you! Tell me, I will stand up for you, hmm?” Su Mo said with a solemn expression.
The latter felt a wave of immense sadness and burst into tears. “It was the palace official Zhou Yanyu… She has always been jealous that you’ve held the position of Empress for so long and has long found us an eyesore. I only wanted a few stones she refused, and on top of that, she kept insulting you. I couldn’t stand it and…”
Su Mo’s brows furrowed, a fierce glint in his eyes. Zhou Yanyu, the daughter of the Sect Leader of the Shuiyun Sect, had been the woman most likely to become Empress. Yet, Wen Muli married him instead and declared to the world that the inner palace would only ever have his seat. Zhou Yanyu was unwilling to accept this, but she refused to give up, so she swallowed her pride and accepted the position of a palace official. Since Wen Muli intended to humiliate Su Mo, he never gave him the Imperial Seal, but handed it to Zhou Yanyu instead.
With the seal in hand, Zhou Yanyu had always acted overbearingly and never placed him in her eyes. People say a gentleman doesn’t fight with a woman. In the past, Su Mo couldn’t be bothered to argue with her. But anyone who bullied his people? That, he would not allow!
