- Chapter 4 - Failing to Observe Men’s Virtue Will Strike You with Lightning
On the other end, Gu Qiuyi stared at Chu Yueguang’s reply, stunned. However, his fingers were much faster than his brain; he had already instinctively typed back: “I don’t need you to help me with my summer homework.”
Chu Yueguang glanced at the reply. His finger moved once more toward that cat profile picture, gently tapping it to enter the person’s Moments.
It was exactly as he expected—no photos of the person himself. However, he posted very frequently, basically every day, mostly sharing songs or photos of flowers and plants.
Chu Yueguang returned to the chat window, scrolled up to look at the photo of the eyes again, and slowly typed: “Then why did you add me?”
Gu Qiuyi wiped away the eye drops overflowing from the corners of his eyes, his fingers flying across the screen with incredible speed: “I want to be friends with you!”
Chu Yueguang gazed down at this sentence, his finger tapping the screen, his thoughts unknown.
Chu Wenxing hugged his leg and looked up at him. “Brother, you have so much sweat on you. You’re stinky.”
Chu Yueguang looked down at her, scooped her up, and rubbed his face against hers with a smile. “You dare to be disgusted by me?”
Chu Wenxing giggled. “Brother is so stinky.”
Chu Wenxing was just six years old and currently in the stage of losing her baby teeth. Usually, children become cautious and sensitive during this period, but not Chu Wenxing. Instead, she found it quite interesting and was always showing people the gap in her teeth, laughing heartily without restraint. She was a very lively little girl.
The Chu family’s household was simple. Their parents hadn’t married for business; it was a marriage of love. Even now, the couple remained deeply affectionate and frequently traveled abroad together. Because of this, the parents were rarely home, and Chu Wenxing was mostly left in Chu Yueguang’s care. The siblings had a very strong bond.
Chu Yueguang set Chu Wenxing down, took the clothes brought by a maid, and headed to the bathroom. Before leaving, he placed his phone on the coffee table and instructed her: “Don’t touch it. Play with your own things.”
Chu Wenxing obediently agreed. Chu Yueguang patted her head and turned into the bathroom.
The moment he left, Chu Wenxing picked up his phone.
Although she was only six, due to her environment, she recognized many words. She could use phones, game consoles, and computers with ease. She opened Chu Yueguang’s phone, tilted her head to look at the chat history between Chu Yueguang and Gu Qiuyi, and suddenly grinned.
Meanwhile, Gu Qiuyi was feeling quite anxious after sending several messages without a response. He scrolled back to check what he had said—Did I say something wrong?
Just as he was worrying, the screen suddenly went black, and a video call request slammed into his field of vision.
“Holy shit!” Gu Qiuyi jumped in fright, nearly throwing his phone across the room.
His heart was pounding. This Chu Yueguang looks all cool and aloof, but is he actually an open-minded guy who jumps straight to video calls after just a little chatting?
Normally, he’d be confident enough to accept, but current circumstances didn’t allow him to video call Chu Yueguang! He had just crawled into the man’s bed; there was no way Chu Yueguang wouldn’t recognize him. After all, his face was quite distinctive—it wasn’t the kind of face one forgets after a single glance.
His thoughts were a chaotic mess, but his hand was still one step ahead of his brain: he had already tapped “Decline.”
However, the moment he declined, another video call request came in. This time, Gu Qiuyi wasn’t as startled; his finger simply twitched, and he accidentally tapped “Accept.”
By the time Gu Qiuyi realized what happened, his soul had nearly left his body. Just as he was frantically trying to hang up, he caught a glimpse of the face on the other side. It was clearly a beautiful little girl. He froze.
The little girl leaned in to look at him and laughed, showing her missing teeth. “Wow, you’re so pretty.”
Gu Qiuyi immediately calmed down. “Where… where is Chu Yueguang?”
The little girl said, “My brother went to take a shower. Who are you?”
“So it’s his little sister. I am your brother’s best friend,” Gu Qiuyi lied through his teeth.
Chu Wenxing giggled. “Who are you kidding? You just said you wanted to be friends with my brother.”
Gu Qiuyi’s eyes widened. “Huh? You can read?”
Chu Wenxing: “…”
Chu Wenxing: “I’m already six years old. Why wouldn’t I be able to read?”
After saying that, she fluently rattled off a long string of English.
Gu Qiuyi used his 10th-grade English level to evaluate it—Wow, there are several words in there I don’t think I know.
Chu Wenxing looked at him and switched to saying a few sentences in French and German, her expression very proud. “Can you understand? I can speak four languages.”
Gu Qiuyi clapped for her, praising her sincerely, “Sister is so amazing. I can’t understand a thing.”
Chu Wenxing grew shy from his praise and whispered secretly, “Actually, I only know a few sentences in French and German, but my brother knows them all.”
Gu Qiuyi knew this—he’s the male lead Gong, after all. These people are all-around geniuses, and their “hardware” below the belt must be anti-humanly huge as well!
Gu Qiuyi said, “Then you’re still very impressive. When I was six, I was still playing with mud at the village entrance! I didn’t know English, French, or German. I only spoke gibberish, hahaha.”
For some reason, Chu Wenxing felt an especially good impression of this pretty brother on the screen. Maybe because he was funny? She didn’t quite understand, but she was happy to talk to him more. “Brother, what do you do?”
Gu Qiuyi perked up at this. He puffed out his chest and said vibrantly, “My profession is: Rich Second Generation!”
Chu Wenxing: “?”
Chu Wenxing blinked, taking a while to process that. “No, I mean, what grade are you in?”
Gu Qiuyi let out an “oh.” “So that’s what you meant… I’m a senior in high school.”
Chu Wenxing said, “Then you’re younger than my brother. My brother is a junior in college; he’s almost graduating.”
Gu Qiuyi lowered his voice and asked, “Sister, can you do me a favor?”
Chu Wenxing was very easygoing. “Tell me. If I can help, I definitely will.”
Gu Qiuyi said, “It’s like this: I want to be best friends with your brother…”
He tried to squeeze out some tears but failed. Feeling too embarrassed to use the eye-drop trick on camera, he put on a profound look, lowering his voice and speaking slowly: “Actually, I’ve had no friends since I was little. No one plays with me. The moment I saw your brother, I felt we were destined to be together. I want to be friends with him, to be his soulmate, but your brother is so cold to me. I don’t know what to do…”
Chu Wenxing was only six, after all. She couldn’t read Gu Qiuyi’s hilariously “deep” face. Instead, she was touched, her eyes turning red. “Brother, you’re so pitiful. Don’t worry, I will definitely help you!”
Gu Qiuyi asked, “Really?”
Chu Wenxing patted her chest and said loudly, “Of course it’s true. Don’t worry, I’ll praise you in front of my brother.”
Gu Qiuyi coached her: “Tell him I’m good-looking—even better-looking than celebrities.”
Chu Wenxing couldn’t help but laugh. She looked closely at Gu Qiuyi’s face. This brother did indeed have a beautiful face that was hard to forget, and she liked the look in his eyes—it was very different from those people outside. She nodded and said, “I can do that, don’t worry.”
After teaching her that one line, Gu Qiuyi got stuck—did he have any other virtues worth mentioning besides his face?
While Gu Qiuyi was hesitating, Chu Wenxing suddenly turned around and shouted, “Brother!”
Gu Qiuyi looked up. As the camera swayed, he vaguely saw Chu Yueguang walking out wearing only a pair of black shorts. He immediately hung up the video call.
On the other side, Chu Yueguang saw Chu Wenxing holding his phone again and frowned slightly. He strode over, the damp moisture from his body washing over her face. “What did you do?”
Chu Wenxing hid her hands behind her back, looking perfectly innocent. “Nothing.”
Chu Yueguang had already seen the video call record. He looked down at her. “You talked to them for this long?”
Chu Wenxing pretended to be surprised and said, “Oh right, Brother! This friend of yours is so good-looking! His skin is so white and his lips are so red, just like Snow White! And he speaks so gently, just like Mommy. I like him so much. Since he’s your friend, can you bring him over to play sometime?”
Hearing this, Chu Yueguang grew alert. “What did you talk about? For seventeen minutes?”
Chu Wenxing said obediently, “We talked about so much. That brother praised me for speaking English, saying it was amazing. He said when he was six, he only played with mud and didn’t learn English until he was twelve. But his grades were so bad he couldn’t understand what I was saying. He’s so envious that I can speak English so fluently.”
Hearing this, Chu Yueguang’s brow relaxed. His large palm gently patted Chu Wenxing’s fluffy, soft hair. “What else did he say?”
Chu Wenxing said, “He said you are very handsome, Brother, and that you’re his idol. He wants to be friends with you. Even if you can’t be friends, he’d be happy for an entire day if you just replied to him once.”
Chu Yueguang: “That’s all?”
Chu Wenxing thought seriously for a moment and said, “He told me to praise him more in front of you.”
Chu Yueguang looked down at her, the corners of his lips curving up. “Was that first sentence you praising him on purpose?”
Chu Wenxing shook her head and sighed. “I don’t know how to praise people; it’s too hard for me. But that brother is really good-looking, just like a celebrity.”
She showed a shy expression and said, “And his voice is so gentle. I really like him.”
Chu Yueguang’s voice dropped. “Is that so?”
Though his tone was questioning, Chu Yueguang felt an indescribable trace of goodwill toward Gu Qiuyi.
Children, after all, have precise perceptions of people. At least, Chu Wenxing had never shown this kind of affection toward others before.
Chu Yueguang temporarily abandoned the idea of deleting Gu Qiuyi. However, he was reserved by nature and didn’t like chatting, so when he saw Gu Qiuyi sent more messages, he didn’t reply.
Once Gu Qiuyi was sure Chu Yueguang was the one holding the phone, he actually got used to the lack of replies.
He exited the chat with Chu Yueguang and was startled to see dozens of messages from Kou Huai. Clicking in, he saw they were all interrogations.
Kou Huai: “I went to search what ‘Men’s Virtue’ means. What the hell are you doing? Are you throwing shade at me?” “Say something! Did you set me to Do Not Disturb?!” “Answer me, dammit! My reputation is great, okay? I’m as clean as they come. I’ve never even slept with anyone; I’m still a virgin. What right do you have to say I don’t observe Men’s Virtue?” “Fuck, fuck, fuck, you’re infuriating me! If you don’t believe me, I’ll send you a pic of my junk! It’s pink! Never been used!” “Don’t you like guys? Even a pic of a dick can’t bait you out? You’re something else!” “Fuck, I’m dying of anger. Get out here, let’s meet up, right now!”
Kou Huai transferred 20,000 yuan to him.
Gu Qiuyi saw the string of zeros and felt very tempted, but he resisted the urge to accept the money. He typed out: “I’m not looking at junk pics. I’m not that kind of person. I advise you to strictly observe Men’s Virtue. People like you who send junk pics randomly are going to be struck by lightning!”
Kou Huai: “?”
Gu Qiuyi: “Also, I’m definitely not going out with you. You’re too promiscuous; I’m afraid you’ll rape me.”
Kou Huai: “………………”
FUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!
