- Chapter 35 - Brother Yueguang is a Total Blockhead
Liang Rong was still trying to argue: “Young Master Chu, don’t listen to his nonsense. He is rebellious by nature and a habitual liar; nothing he says can be taken as truth.”
As she spoke, she glanced around. Seeing that people were already casting looks their way and some were even drifting closer, she began to panic. A major reason she had dared to speak so harshly to Gu Qiuyi was the secluded location, but now this “worthless brat” was crying and making a scene, attracting far too much unwanted attention. If this continued, she would truly lose face.
Trying to calm herself, Liang Rong broke free from Chu Yueguang’s grip, smoothed her skirt, and said, “Young Master Chu, regardless of the situation, this is a private matter of the Gu family. I believe it would be better if you didn’t interfere.”
Gu Qiuyi interjected, looking pitiful with tears streaming down his face: “But I’m no longer a member of the Gu family. Ms. Liang, you’ve already discarded me.”
Liang Rong’s expression twisted for a moment. This brat was born specifically to humiliate her! If she had known he had such a wretched personality, she should have strangled him at birth—it would have saved her so much trouble!
At that moment, Jiang Hansa walked over carrying a glass of milk. He glanced at Liang Rong, then saw Gu Qiuyi and was shocked. “Why are you crying?”
Gu Qiuyi sobbed out his accusation: “Brother Hansa, Ms. Liang is forcing me to get plastic surgery. I don’t want to; I’m afraid I’ll die on the operating table, sob sob sob sob.”
Jiang Hansa was stunned. It took a few seconds before he realized this woman was Gu Qiuyi’s mother, the mistress of the Gu family, Liang Rong.
However, hearing Gu Qiuyi’s familiar “sob sob sob,” Jiang Hansa instantly caught the underlying meaning. Noticing Chu Yueguang’s presence, he turned to Liang Rong and snapped, “You have the nerve to come looking for Gu Qiuyi? Didn’t you kick him out of the house? I was the one who went to pick him up! What now—you won’t own up to it and want to take him back just to torment him?”
Jiang Hansa’s voice was full of masculine vigor, and even in the noisy gala, it carried quite a distance. More and more casual glances began to fixate on their group.
Just then, Gu Dancheng appeared. He was so tall and well-built that he was naturally the center of attention in any crowd. He hadn’t heard everything Jiang Hansa said; he only knew that whenever Liang Rong and Gu Qiuyi were together, nothing good happened.
He walked to Liang Rong’s side and called out softly, “Mom.” He cast a fleeting glance at the weeping Gu Qiuyi and whispered, “Dad is looking for you. Let’s head over.”
Liang Rong’s face was contorted. Logically, Gu Dancheng had given her a way out, and she should have taken it. But she was filled with resentment. Yes, she had kicked Gu Qiuyi out, but—this brat came from her womb; did she not have the right to discipline him? Being lectured by so many people made her exceptionally ashamed and angry.
Liang Rong nearly dug her nails through her palms. “Gu Qiuyi, I truly regret giving birth to you. You’re of no use to the family, yet you go out and conspire with outsiders to distort the truth and smear the Gu name. The family raised you for over ten years, only to produce such an ungrateful white-eyed wolf.”
Gu Dancheng reached out to pull her away, but Gu Qiuyi’s next words made him freeze in place.
Wiping his tears and forcing his voice to stabilize, Gu Qiuyi said, “Ms. Liang, it is a fact that you kicked me out of the house. Brother Hansa can testify to that; how is that ‘distorting the truth’? As for forcing me into surgery, Young Master Chu heard it himself. Are you suggesting that Young Master Chu is also conspiring with me to slander you?”
Hearing him call him “Young Master Chu,” Chu Yueguang’s face chilled, and his voice followed suit. “I did indeed hear your aggressive demands for him to undergo surgery. Mrs. Gu, kicking out your own son and then forcing a minor to get plastic surgery—is this the ‘refinement’ of the Gu family? You want to drive him to his death, don’t you?”
Cold sweat broke out on Liang Rong’s forehead. This accusation was too severe, and coming from Chu Yueguang, she felt powerless to argue.
Gu Dancheng withdrew his hand, his gaze heavy as he looked at Liang Rong. “Mom, is what he said true?”
Liang Rong grabbed his hand frantically. “Didn’t you say your father is looking for me? Let’s go. Don’t keep him waiting.”
It was too late to take the way out now. Gu Dancheng pressed, “Is it true? You kicked Gu Qiuyi out?”
Liang Rong glared at him. “Shouldn’t I have? He was just a useless mouth to feed at home. Does he have any purpose? Dancheng, don’t learn from him. He’s a low-life, but you’re different!”
Chu Yueguang was so angry he laughed. What kind of people were these? The world truly was full of wonders. He spoke up: “Today, I’ve finally seen the ‘quality’ of the Gu family. If you can be so heartless toward your own son, I imagine your company’s corporate culture is much the same.”
Liang Rong understood the subtext immediately, and her face paled significantly. Though Chu Yueguang was young, he was the undisputed heir to the Chu family. His words, to an extent, represented the Chu family’s stance.
Escalating a domestic matter to a corporate level meant things had truly blown up. As Liang Rong attempted to say more, Gu Dancheng whispered, “Mom, stop talking.”
In the company, she held a high status, so being a bit harsh was fine. but in a situation like this, she was essentially courting disaster for the family business.
Gu Dancheng’s gaze fell on Gu Qiuyi. His eyes were red and swollen from crying—it was clear he felt utterly wronged. Clenching his fingers, Gu Dancheng said to Chu Yueguang, “Young Master Chu, my father is calling for us urgently. We’ll take our leave first.”
With that, he led a panicked Liang Rong away, brooking no refusal.
Liang Rong said fearfully, “Dancheng, we’re just leaving? We have to explain things to Young Master Chu.”
Gu Dancheng whispered, “Mom, how do you plan to explain? Is it not a fact that you kicked him out? Is it not a fact that you forced him into surgery?”
Liang Rong: “Even so…”
Gu Dancheng interrupted, “Mom, you went too far.”
Liang Rong froze, then grew angry. “How did I go too far? Wasn’t it all for you? Useless waste should be discarded so that all the family’s resources can be focused on you—to cultivate you, to make you more excellent. We did it all for you, don’t you understand?!”
Gu Dancheng lowered his eyes and said nothing more. He had heard these words since childhood; they had become a heavy shackle locked firmly around his neck.
He looked back at Gu Qiuyi, who was still sitting there wiping his eyes. It reminded him of when they were in the game; he had asked him why he didn’t go home, and Gu Qiuyi had said without hesitation that his parents were dead and he had no home.
Perhaps that was a “beautified” version of the truth. And he, Gu Dancheng, was an accomplice. Thus, Gu Qiuyi had no brother.
Wasn’t that perfectly logical?
Gu Dancheng withdrew his gaze and said quietly to Liang Rong, “Let’s go. Don’t make Dad wait too long.”
Jiang Hansa placed the milk on the table. “They didn’t have milk or juice here, only red wine and brandy. I had to go to the kitchen, so I’m late getting back.”
Gu Qiuyi let out a shaky sob and gave a small “Mm.” He turned to Chu Yueguang and said piteously, “Thank you, Young Master Chu.”
Hearing “Young Master Chu” over and over made Chu Yueguang feel stifled, but he didn’t show it. He gave a cold, detached “Mm.”
Gu Qiuyi said with a thick, nasal voice, “If Young Master Chu hadn’t spoken up for me, I’m afraid Ms. Liang really would have sent me to the operating table.”
Chu Yueguang’s gaze fell on his face. While that beautiful face shared some similarities with Liang Rong, certain aspects were worlds apart. Every feature on Gu Qiuyi’s face held a pure, innocent beauty, whereas Liang Rong’s face inevitably betrayed a sense of meanness and bitterness.
It was hard to imagine that in the 21st century, there was still a mother so jealous of her son’s beauty that she’d force him into plastic surgery.
Chu Yueguang stared at Gu Qiuyi for so long that the boy nervously lowered his head and continued eating with his fork. Jiang Hansa didn’t dare speak to Chu Yueguang either and stood nearby, feeling awkward.
Chu Yueguang sat down next to Gu Qiuyi and said, “I’m willing to listen to your explanation.”
Gu Qiuyi: “?”
Chu Yueguang: “Tell me. What exactly happened that night?”
Gu Qiuyi: “…” He whispered softly, “Brother Yueguang.”
Hearing that address, Chu Yueguang finally felt a bit better. He showed nothing on the surface, frowning with feigned impatience. He said coldly, “Don’t call me Brother Yueguang.”
Gu Qiuyi said pitifully, “Young Master Chu.”
Chu Yueguang’s face soured again. I tell him not to call me that and he just stops? “Don’t waste time.”
Gu Qiuyi said, “That night… actually, I had a bit to drink, and I can’t quite remember—”
Chu Yueguang’s face went cold. “Liar! You’re lying again!”
Gu Qiuyi: “Uh… I entered the wrong room.”
Chu Yueguang stared at him. “It was that mother of yours who forced you, wasn’t it? Is the truth so hard to say?”
Gu Qiuyi: “…”
Chu Yueguang’s eyes were sharp. “Are you going to lie again?” Is the truth really that difficult to speak?
Gu Qiuyi let out a “Waaa!” and wailed: “Yes! Ms. Liang forced me! She said if I didn’t use my body to land you, she’d kick me out! I didn’t succeed, so she threw me out of the house!!!”
Chu Yueguang nodded inwardly. This was the “truth” he had pieced together in a flash of insight. It seemed his theory was spot on.
Why couldn’t he have just said so earlier?
No… even if Gu Qiuyi had confessed, Chu Yueguang wouldn’t have believed him before seeing Liang Rong’s true colors for himself. All of Gu Qiuyi’s previous actions had a hidden hardship behind them. Even climbing into bed wasn’t voluntary. He could understand that.
While Gu Qiuyi cried, he thought to himself: Why do I get the feeling that Chu Yueguang… is a total blockhead?
