- The Silly Immortal Lord Comes Down to Overcome His Tribulation
- Chapter 4 - Scrambling for Food with a Dog
Little Bai Mo had not followed them to the mall to listen to their empty praise, nor was he interested in the handbags. Since that useless Painting refused to believe in its own limitations, he had to search for his tribulation-bringer himself in these crowded places. Surely, she must have arrived after him and be younger than him. Ah! A stroller!
Little Bai Mo scurried toward the woman pushing the stroller.
Passing by a young boy, the child was drawn to Bai Mo’s outfit. He tugged at the adult beside him, pointing at Bai Mo and shouting, “Kitty, kitty~”
Little Bai Mo didn’t even turn his head; he raced toward his target. He reached the stroller, blocked the woman’s path, and locked eyes with the baby lying inside before running off again. After a confirmation look, that’s not the person I’m looking for.
The Painting of a Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains popped its head out.
[That wasn’t her either? Ever since you learned to walk, you’ve been obsessed with robbing strollers. In the last two years, you must have ‘robbed’ at least ninety-nine strollers, yet you still refuse to give up.]
Little Bai Mo hung his head, lost in disappointment.
[I’m only three years old. My life is still long; how could you expect me to give up?]
“Woof! Arf!”
“Ah! My god!” Startled by the sudden barking, Little Bai Mo instinctively took off running at top speed.
A young Husky broke free from its owner’s leash and chased after him.
“Don’t come over here!!! Be careful or I’ll eat dog meat!” Little Bai Mo mustered every ounce of strength he had and sprinted toward the luxury bag store.
Seeing her son being chased by a small dog, Xia Wei was worried to tears. She didn’t even care about picking out a bag anymore; she ran forward and scooped Little Bai Mo up into her arms.
“Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid. It’s just a puppy; it can’t bite you. Look at how cowardly you are.”
Hiding in Xia Wei’s embrace, Little Bai Mo turned his head slightly. It really was just a puppy. He had reacted reflexively to the barking, and as he buried his face back into her chest, he thought: Oh my god, this is so embarrassing!
“Sister Wei, is Mo Mo really that afraid of dogs?”
Xia Wei patted Bai Mo’s back to soothe him.
“This child is quite popular with animals. When he was a baby, he was carried off by the neighbor’s dog into its kennel; it took us a long time to find him. Ever since then, he’s been terrified of them.”
Mom, my dear mom, please don’t broadcast such shameful things everywhere! Your son still needs his dignity! Bai Mo secretly wished he could eat that dog. Hmph~ when I grow up, I’ll deal with it.
Little Bai Mo never expected that he would eventually become good friends with that very dog.
Little Bai Mo continued to live a life of luxury and leisure for another fifteen years, but the only thing that troubled him was that he still hadn’t found her.
A Border Collie with a basket of snacks in its mouth ran to the gate of a villa. The gardener saw it and familiarly opened the door for it. It wagged its tail happily and headed inside.
In the villa’s garden, a youth wearing an eye mask was lying leisurely on a chaise lounge, basking in the sun.
Painting of a Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains: [Have you given up?]
Bai Mo: [What else can I do? I’ve been searching for eighteen years. It’s time for her to come find me. My current life is truly wonderful—look at me, except for not having a girlfriend, do I lack anything? If I didn’t have to face a tribulation, wouldn’t it be even better? I’ve thought it through: we shouldn’t sacrifice enjoying this wonderful life for the sake of one tribulation.]
Painting: [You’ve become degenerate.]
Bai Mo: [What do you want?]
Painting: [I’m just degenerating along with you. Good food, good drinks, and entertainment—I like it.]
Bai Mo: [Pfft, look at how unambitious you are.]
Painting: [You’re so ambitious? If you’re so great, don’t eat the things ‘Lightbulb’ brings you.]
Hearing this, Bai Mo pulled off his eye mask and sat up. He glanced at the dog, which always brought him gifts when it came to play, and focused his attention on the basket in its mouth.
“Lightbulb, what did you bring today? Hurry up, move it.”
Lightbulb obediently ran over to Bai Mo and set the basket down.
Looking at the basket full of various snacks, Bai Mo smiled and said, “Lightbulb, your dad is giving you quite a bit of pocket money today, huh?”
“Woof!” Every time its father wanted to be alone with its mother, he gave it plenty of money and sent it out to play. This time, it had heard fighting noises, ran upstairs, and saw its father pressing its mother onto the bed. It had run in to help its mother and got hit with a slipper by its father.
Although the hit was very light, perhaps to appease its wounded heart, he had given it more money than usual but told it not to return until nightfall.
Bai Mo picked through the basket. They lived in an upscale neighborhood, and there was an imported supermarket at the entrance, though he didn’t like everything in there.
Painting: [Mo Mo, give me that red-striped bag.] Then it flew over to a can and added, [Give me this one too.]
Bai Mo tossed the snacks to the Painting. [I say, have you forgotten that you’re a painting? Every time you eat more than I do.]
The Painting hugged its chosen snacks and started eating, firing back: [Don’t talk about me; aren’t you hoarding a huge pile yourself?]
Lightbulb watched the snacks disappear into Bai Mo’s hands. It found Mo Mo to be amazing—he could perform magic tricks since he was little. It didn’t find it strange anymore; it was used to it. Now, it just focused on watching Mo Mo pick his share, waiting for its turn with what was left.
Bai Mo had finished digging through the basket and was about to stop.
“Hm?” At the very bottom, he saw a bag with packaging he had never seen before. It wasn’t English, maybe French? Thai? Whatever, he couldn’t read it. A new treat! Time to taste it. He reached for it.
Seeing his favorite snack being taken, Lightbulb hurriedly bit onto the packaging.
Bai Mo noticed Lightbulb struggling with him and pushing the item to the bottom—it had to be the best one, no doubt.
“Let go, let me eat this.” He pulled hard.
But Lightbulb bit down firmly and wouldn’t let go, even being dragged for a short distance by Bai Mo.
“Hey~ are you being serious now? I’m going to eat this today! Lightbulb, didn’t your mother tell you to take good care of me before she passed away?”
Bai Mo remembered the day Lightbulb’s mother, who had carried him back to the kennel, was dying of old age. She had brought little Lightbulb to see him and whimpered and barked for a long time.
Lightbulb hesitated for a moment and let go.
“Ouch~”
Because Lightbulb had released its grip during the tug-of-war, Bai Mo sat down hard on the ground. However, he had achieved victory, so he stood up with a happy mood, rubbing his sore backside.
“Let me see what kind of delicious treat you were guarding so carefully?”
The moment he opened the package, he froze.
“Uh… you can have this back.” Bai Mo hadn’t expected it to be a bag of imported dog food. He visited that supermarket often no wonder he hadn’t seen this before.
[Pfft! You were fighting with a dog over dog food? Hahaha! Let me laugh for a while!] The Painting was laughing so hard it nearly choked.
Bai Mo ignored the Painting, clapped his hands, and lay back down on the chaise lounge to eat his small snacks.
Only simple-minded Lightbulb, seeing its lost treasure returned, wagged its tail happily.
