- Chapter 97 - You Are My Master
“When did I ever say that?”
Si Yu had absolutely no recollection of ever saying such a thing. Moreover, it was impossible for her to say something like that to anyone other than Xu Chengjin.
She had long ago decided that her only lover could be Xu Chengjin.
She didn’t know what kind of nonsense Qin Wen was spouting. Turning to look at Qin Wen, her tone was serious and low: “Tell me, when did I ever tell you that?”
“It was on my sister’s birthday. She was drunk and told you she hoped you could take care of me. She even said that, if possible, she hoped you could marry me, and you agreed.”
At that time, Qin Wen had been standing by the door listening to them. After Si Yu agreed, her heart was filled with hope. That’s why she returned the moment she turned eighteen, waiting for Si Yu to fulfill that promise. She liked Si Yu too; since the feelings were mutual, why couldn’t they be together?
However, the appearance of another person right now was truly irritating.
“On your sister’s birthday, I left immediately after giving her the gift.”
Si Yu remembered now. She had arrived quite late that day, rushing over after a meeting. Furthermore, her stomach had been bothering her because she had been drinking with someone the day before. After dropping off the gift, she went straight to the hospital for an IV drip. She barely spoke a few words to the birthday girl, so how could she have made such a promise?
After she explained the situation, Qin Wen looked disbelieving: “How is that possible? I definitely didn’t hear wrong; it was clearly your voice.”
“Call your sister here. It’s a good time to clear up everything from the past once and for all.”
Si Yu didn’t want to waste any more time arguing with Qin Wen. Seeing that the girl only believed what she wanted to believe, Si Yu lost her patience for her tantrums. “Zhao Yi, bring your partner over. Qin Wen is here with me.”
“Don’t ask questions now, just come over. I’ll explain then.”
Si Yu hung up the phone. She ignored Qin Wen and focused on talking to Xu Chengjin: “I’ve asked Zhao Yi to come over. She’s the person I picked up from the airport. Don’t worry, in all my life, I’ve never been in a relationship, let alone loved anyone other than you…”
“Shh.”
Xu Chengjin curled her lips into a smile. She took Si Yu’s hand and leaned forward, falling directly into the other’s embrace. She said softly, “I do believe you, but I can’t manage to be entirely without doubt.”
“I understand.”
Si Yu shifted her posture, pulling Xu Chengjin to sit with her on the sofa. From the corner of her eye, she glanced at Qin Wen, whose eyes were red and who looked extremely defiant. Si Yu sighed helplessly but ultimately said nothing.
Zhao Yi arrived quickly, bringing her partner along as Si Yu had requested. After all, Si Yu wouldn’t call her for no reason, especially with Qin Wen involved.
Qin Wen was the child born after Zhao Yi’s mother remarried. Unfortunately, her mother and stepfather both died in a car accident. Qin Wen was very young then, and Zhao Yi had raised her personally. Naturally, she had spoiled her a bit, though she had been trying to discipline her more over the last two years, often regretting her past leniency.
“Si Yu.”
Zhao Yi opened the office door. As soon as she walked in, she saw Qin Wen sulking to one side and Si Yu looking grim. She recognized Xu Chengjin; Si Yu had told her about her existence. How did these three end up together?
It looked like there had been some unpleasantness.
“You’re here.” Si Yu forced a small smile. Xu Chengjin was clearly sleepy, leaning against Si Yu’s shoulder and nodding off. Several times Si Yu felt her almost slip, only for Si Yu to catch her just in time.
Zhao Yi held her partner’s hand and sat on the other sofa. They were closer to Qin Wen. Zhao Yi got straight to the point: “Tell me what’s going on.”
Before Si Yu could speak, Qin Wen broke down into tears: “Didn’t you say back then that you wanted Si Yu to marry me?”
“Huh?”
It was Zhao Yi’s turn to be stunned. She looked at her partner, shocked: “When did I ever say that?”
Qin Wen was also stunned. She quickly recounted the scene and process of that day. Hearing it, Zhao Yi remembered and let out a “ha”: “I was talking to Auntie Zhao that day! Who said I was talking to Si Yu? Si Yu left right after giving the gift.”
“I couldn’t have heard it wrong.”
Qin Wen still didn’t want to believe it. Her tears began to fall instantly. When she heard “Si Yu” agree back then, she had been so excited and shy that she didn’t even dare enter the room. She only pushed the door open much later, but by then Si Yu was gone. She had thought Si Yu left because of an emergency; it turned out they hadn’t even met, let alone been in the same room.
Zhao Yi had a headache. She first apologized to Si Yu: “This must be Miss Xu. I am Zhao Yi, President Si’s partner. I’ve been managing the overseas markets. This is my partner. There might have been some misunderstandings between us, but rest assured, I don’t like Si Yu at all.”
She emphasized the last part, clearly a deliberate jab at Si Yu—not just a lack of romantic feelings, but a mock blow to their friendship as well!
Xu Chengjin caught the underlying meaning and laughed: “I know. Thank you for coming all this way.”
“It’s my fault for not disciplining my sister properly. Don’t take it to heart; she just got things mixed up.”
Zhao Yi pulled Qin Wen, intending to take her away: “I’ll take her back then. I won’t disturb you two further.”
Xu Chengjin yawned. She knew it was a bit rude, but she really couldn’t hold it back: “Sorry, I just took my medicine and I’m really struggling to stay awake.”
“Understandable.”
Zhao Yi nodded to Si Yu and forced Qin Wen up: “I’ll treat you to dinner later. I’m leaving now.”
Qin Wen stood up reluctantly. She looked at the gauze on Xu Chengjin’s face, hesitated, but still said: “I hate you.”
“I don’t like you either.”
Xu Chengjin gave a perfectly standard smile: “See you around.”
Qin Wen completely broke down. she tilted her head back and sobbed: “I’m never coming back here again!”
“My apologies, how embarrassing.”
Zhao Yi looked awkward and quickly dragged the girl away, fearing what other scene might unfold if they stayed any longer.
“You seem to be in a pretty good mood.”
Si Yu turned to look at the smiling Xu Chengjin and picked her up: “Want to sleep for a bit?”
“You really have great ‘girlfriend power’.” Xu Chengjin was used to Si Yu carrying her. She nestled obediently in Si Yu’s arms. “I think Qin Wen is actually quite cute.”
“Even though she said a lot of unpleasant things.”
Xu Chengjin knew it was just a misunderstanding on Qin Wen’s part, compounded by Zhao Yi’s overindulgence making her a bit arrogant, but she wasn’t malicious at heart. Xu Chengjin could accept that.
However, if she had the same attitude next time, Xu Chengjin wouldn’t be so happy.
“What do you want for lunch?”
Si Yu lay on the bed with Xu Chengjin, lying on her side to talk to her: “How about chicken noodle soup?”
“Yes.”
Xu Chengjin first lay flat on the sofa, then rolled over into Si Yu’s arms. She pinched Si Yu’s arm and exclaimed, “Your muscles are really well-trained too.”
“Too?”
Si Yu accurately caught the word. She frowned and asked Xu Chengjin: “Who else is there?”
Xu Chengjin hummed. She tried to turn away, but Si Yu stopped her, using her legs to pin her down: “Speak!”
“Wu Boran.”
Xu Chengjin said it directly and coughed slightly: “Her muscle lines are quite nice.”
It was the truth; Wu Boran did train well.
“Ha.”
Si Yu was so angry she laughed. She took Xu Chengjin’s hand and made her touch her entire upper body: “I’ve been working out all the time. Tell me, who’s better, her or me?”
“How childish.”
Xu Chengjin’s face turned bright red at Si Yu’s actions. Her voice dropped significantly: “You’re behaving like a rogue.”
“Hmm?”
Si Yu was stunned by Xu Chengjin’s words. She let out an “ah,” and after reflecting on her actions for a few seconds, she fell silent. “I didn’t think too much about it.”
“I know.”
Xu Chengjin silently turned around, but the next moment she was pulled back by the waist. She bit her lip and whispered, “What are you doing?”
“Want me to take you for a tour around the company after you wake up?”
“Are you crazy?”
Xu Chengjin was amused by Si Yu’s words. She squeezed Si Yu’s hand: “Are you busy today?”
“Not sure yet. If the schedule doesn’t change, we should be able to go home around eight o’clock.”
Si Yu closed her eyes, nuzzling Xu Chengjin’s hair with her face: “What’s wrong? If it’s too late, I’ll have the secretary take you back first.”
“Just asking. It’s not good to stay up too late.”
Xu Chengjin silently turned over in Si Yu’s arms so they were face to face. She let out a deep breath: “If we finish late, let’s find a park to catch the breeze and take a walk.”
“And walk the cat?”
Si Yu’s tone was teasing: “Our little Jin just threw quite a tantrum. You were so fierce.”
“Was I? Am I really that scary?” Xu Chengjin tentatively touched Si Yu’s neck. She tilted her head up and said intentionally in a fierce tone, “She said I was your little mistress. Do you think I am?”
“How could that be? She got it backwards.”
Si Yu buried her head in the crook of Xu Chengjin’s neck: “You are my master. I am your canary. You are the one who holds all my assets.”
“Ah, so obedient…”
Xu Chengjin curled her lips. She tilted her head back and let out a soft muffle: “Is there a cushion… I’m afraid…”
“It’s okay.”
Si Yu kissed Xu Chengjin’s lips. She cupped the other’s face, breathing slightly heavily: “Wait until your body is a bit better.”
“I’m not some glass doll.”
Xu Chengjin turned her head: “I won’t break that easily. Besides, I have normal physical needs.”
Si Yu laughed and kissed Xu Chengjin’s mouth again: “So do I, but I still think it’s not the right time.”
“Why?”
Xu Chengjin still didn’t understand, until Si Yu whispered a few words in her ear:
“I bought some toys—”
