- Chapter 95 - An Initiative Kiss
“Come and eat.”
Knowing nothing of the internal turmoil, Si Yu was setting out the bowls and chopsticks. She was quite satisfied with the breakfast she had prepared this morning: “I even made fresh soy milk. Taste it and see if you want more sugar?”
She handed a cup of soy milk to Xu Chengjin. Fearing it might be inconvenient for her to drink, she had specifically provided a straw: “Be careful, it’s a bit hot.”
“Okay.”
Xu Chengjin tasted it; the flavor was good. “It’s fine.”
“What are you watching?” Si Yu glanced at the television and realized it was a dating reality show. She looked at the screen and then back at Xu Chengjin. “I didn’t know you liked this style of variety show.”
“I don’t. It was just on a random channel. I think it’s alright.”
Xu Chengjin handed the soy milk back to her. “It’s just that they were saying here that people who are controlling, narcissistic, or like to manage everything are types you shouldn’t date.”
“I agree.”
Si Yu responded without a second thought. However, she didn’t expect Xu Chengjin to remain silent. Stopping in her tracks, Si Yu suddenly recalled what Xu Chengjin had just said: “Aha! Are you talking about me?”
“No.”
Xu Chengjin turned her head away, but the smile on her face couldn’t be hidden no matter how hard she tried. Si Yu pursed her lips and lightened her footsteps, but she still made a sound just as she was about to reach Xu Chengjin. In the next second, she pounced on Xu Chengjin, pinning her to the sofa.
“What are you doing?”
Xu Chengjin tilted her head back and laughed. Held loosely beneath Si Yu, she let out a breath: “Are you bullying me?”
“Who’s bullying you?”
Si Yu gently pinched Xu Chengjin’s cheek and gave it a little shake, the laughter in her eyes impossible to mask: “Speak up! Aren’t you the one bullying me? I’m possessive, I like to meddle in everything, and I’m narcissistic—is that it?”
Xu Chengjin gave a “hmpf” and said in a mock-strained voice: “That’s right, I was talking about you.”
“Since you’ve already described me that way, there’s no need for me to hide it anymore!”
In the next moment, Si Yu pinched Xu Chengjin’s face and leaned down to kiss her. It was just kissing—pecking her again and again like a little chick—until finally, Xu Chengjin had to beg for mercy: “I said the wrong thing, please, I beg you.”
“Call me Sister.”
Si Yu was also breathing slightly harder. Supporting herself with her hands on either side of Xu Chengjin, she whispered: “I won’t let you go unless you say it.”
“I won’t.”
Xu Chengjin raised her hands to push Si Yu away, but she didn’t use any strength at all; it felt more like giving Si Yu a massage. “Tell me… how are you going to introduce me when I go to your company? Didn’t you say we should try getting along for a month first? If we just make it clear right away, wouldn’t it be impossible to settle things later?”
As she spoke, Xu Chengjin sounded a bit unhappy. Even though she had understood Si Yu’s reasoning when she first heard those words, she still felt a lingering discomfort in her heart, so her tone now carried a hint of pouting.
To Si Yu’s ears, Xu Chengjin’s words sounded like she was resisting the idea of their relationship being exposed—as if once it was out, they would never be able to separate again, and even if they did, it would attract gossip. She felt a bit hurt: “Do you really not want to tell others about our relationship that much?”
“Even if it might be… temporary?”
After hearing Si Yu’s words, Xu Chengjin’s brain slowly rearranged the sentence. After thinking it over carefully, she still found it incomprehensible. A metaphoric question mark slowly appeared over her head: “What do you mean?”
“What do you mean ‘temporary’? What do you mean ‘unwilling’?”
Xu Chengjin pushed Si Yu up with force and sat up herself, her tone becoming serious: “When did I ever say I wasn’t willing to tell people about us? Have you completely misunderstood me? I was clearly just being spoiled and acting out a bit.”
After saying this, she gave Si Yu a playful slap, though the force was very light. She gave a cold huff: “When you told me we had to have a one-month trial period, I was actually quite unhappy.”
Si Yu was stunned: “Why were you unhappy?”
“Because I felt you didn’t trust me, of course! I wanted to…”
Her voice trailed off toward the end. Si Yu couldn’t hear the last few words at all and specifically leaned in to ask: “What did you say?”
Xu Chengjin’s earlobes turned bright red. She bit her lip and, throwing caution to the wind, blurted out: “I said, I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
“I mean… my original destiny has already changed, and you won’t hurt me, so of course I would—”
Xu Chengjin fell silent, too shy to say anything more. She turned her head away and didn’t speak for a long time. Si Yu was dazed by Xu Chengjin’s words; she sat on the sofa in a stupor for a few seconds. Then, in the next instant, she pulled Xu Chengjin into a tight embrace: “Really?”
“You’re really willing to spend the rest of your life with me?”
Si Yu didn’t even wait for an answer. She was in a total state of euphoria; this felt better than closing a deal worth billion. “Chengjin, I love you.”
“Truly.”
Si Yu had always been honest about her feelings for Xu Chengjin, never using false words. “I hope you can believe me, okay?”
“Of course I believe you.”
Xu Chengjin’s eyes curved into a smile. She rested her head on Si Yu’s shoulder, shifting around until she was comfortable. “Let’s go eat, I’m hungry.”
“Okay.”
Si Yu picked Xu Chengjin up and couldn’t help but comment: “You’re still too thin. You need to eat more later.”
“Mhm, mhm.”
Xu Chengjin gave a perfunctory response. She sat down in the chair and began to eat unhurriedly. Her attention was entirely on the meal; since she couldn’t see, every movement was very deliberate. Thus, she didn’t notice the other person’s gaze fixed on her the entire time.
Xu Chengjin had never been to Si Yu’s company before, though she had seen the exterior—a massive, towering building. Si Yu held her hand as they walked inside. When people greeted Si Yu, she would simply give a small nod and then lead Xu Chengjin into her private elevator.
“Say, doesn’t that person look a bit familiar?”
The girl at the reception desk began to whisper to her colleague. “She looks a lot like the one from the Xu family.”
Her colleague nodded: “She really does. And the two of them just went in holding hands… Could it be that President Si is in a relationship?”
“It’s possible.”
The girl sent the photo she had just secretly snapped to the company’s gossip group: [Breaking News! President Si is suspected to be in a relationship!]
Si Yu had no idea that news of her and Xu Chengjin was already spreading. Xu Chengjin wasn’t wearing her bandage today; Si Yu planned to have her stay in the lounge within her office and then wrap the bandage there so as not to cause unnecessary talk among others.
“President Si.”
Her secretary opened the office door and quickly summarized the morning schedule: “The meeting starts in ten minutes. Shall Miss Xu stay in the office for a while?”
The secretary knew about the situation between Si Yu and Xu Chengjin and had already prepared plenty of snacks, fruit, and a television in the office. “Oh, and I also brought the kitten here.”
Si Yu was slightly surprised. She led Xu Chengjin inside: “I told you I’d show you the kitten; I didn’t expect her to bring it here.” As soon as the office door opened, the two of them heard the kitten’s meow. Si Yu looked down at the cat rubbing against her leg and trying to climb up her. She couldn’t help but smile: “Her name is Fufu.”
“Fufu, as in ‘to support.’ Do you want to hold her?” Si Yu bent down and picked up the kitten. “She’s very well-behaved, but still, be careful she doesn’t get stressed by strangers. Just be gentle.”
Xu Chengjin nodded, sounding quite excited: “Quick, let me hold her.”
Once the kitten was in her arms, she let out a sigh of relief. Even though she couldn’t see right now, she felt a special joy. “Once my eyes are better, I’ll take her over, or we can move in together. Moving a cat to a new environment doesn’t seem very good for them.”
“Either way is fine. She’s quite brave and well-socialized.”
Si Yu ruffled Xu Chengjin’s hair and led her to sit on the sofa. “I’ll apply your eye medication. This meeting might take some time, so wait for me here. I’ll arrange for an assistant to stay—someone I trust—so don’t worry.”
“Okay.”
Xu Chengjin gave a compliant response. Her hands never stopped stroking the kitten, but her eyelids fluttered slightly. “Come here for a second.”
“What is it?”
Unaware of anything, Si Yu leaned in close. “What did you want to say?”
Just as she finished speaking, she felt a warm sensation on her cheek. It was soft, intimate…
Xu Chengjin had—
Kissed her!
