The Sickly Fake Daughter, But a Beloved Darling of All - Chapter 93
Xu Chengjin froze instantly. The scorching breath behind her reminded her that this was not a dream; they both truly existed, and in that flash, she finally understood the unfinished words Xu Jing had spoken in the hospital room.
Xu Jing actually liked her.
This was something Xu Chengjin had never imagined and simply could not allow herself to think about!
“You’re crazy.”
Xu Chengjin could only reach this conclusion. She began to struggle. “You’re crazy! Let me go, I’m your sister.”
“We are no longer related by blood!” Xu Jing’s voice was hurried, desperate to prove something. “Didn’t we already say it back then? We aren’t biological sisters anymore.”
“Not biological sisters? Is the bond between us all these years a lie then!” Panic surged in Xu Chengjin’s heart, her movements becoming violent. “Xu Jing, don’t make me hate you.”
“I have absolutely no feelings for you beyond family affection.”
Xu Chengjin’s body trembled slightly; this revelation felt like a weight crushing the air out of her lungs. “Si Yu! Si Yu!”
“Don’t shout!”
Xu Jing reached out and covered Xu Chengjin’s mouth, her voice tinged with panic. “Once I realized my feelings for you weren’t normal, I deliberately started to distance myself. Didn’t you ask me before why I was staying away? I knew that falling in love with my own sister was wrong, immoral—my own conscience wouldn’t allow me to do it, so I never made any radical moves—”
“But Xiaojin…” Xu Jing choked up for a moment. “Do you know how happy I was the moment I learned we weren’t biological sisters? I thought that finally, we could be together. We’ve been together since we were children anyway, why can’t we get married?”
“Family affection can change.” Xu Jing slowly released her hand. She turned Xu Chengjin’s face toward her, watching the tears rolling down. Her heart wrenched, but she didn’t stop. “I love you, Xiaojin. Mom knows about this too. It’s precisely because she knows that she agreed to let you and Si Yu be together—otherwise, do you think she would have agreed so quickly!”
“Xiaojin, we were meant to be together. What right does that Si Yu have to be with you? When I saw you two kissing just now, do you know how angry I was?”
Xu Jing’s voice softened, her own eyes reddening. “I know you don’t truly love Si Yu. It’s okay, I’ll take you away. We’ll find a suitable place, we can watch the sunset together, we can…”
“Enough!”
Xu Chengjin almost shrieked the words. “Stop talking. I can never agree to this. Sister, you are my sister! Even knowing I’m not your biological sister, I have never once removed you from my family. Stop talking, just stop.”
Xu Jing tried to say more, reaching out to turn the other woman’s body to face her fully, but in the next second, she was pulled away. “You…”
As she started to speak, she met Si Yu’s eyes, which were ablaze with fury. “What are you doing?”
“What am I doing?”
Xu Jing was pushed by Si Yu and nearly fell to the ground. She stood up straight and swept a glance at Si Yu. “None of your business. I am talking to my sister.”
“Is that so?”
Si Yu let out a cold laugh. “Talking to your sister? You know best what’s actually hidden in your heart! I only stepped away for a phone call. I thought Xiaojin was sick; your priority should have been taking care of her, not taking advantage of her!”
“Who is taking advantage? We were supposed to live a good life together. You are the one who disrupted our lives, Si Yu. You were never supposed to appear here.”
“I want to go back, Si Yu.”
Xu Chengjin fumbled to grasp Si Yu’s hand, clutching it with strength. “Go back, let’s go back.”
She choked back a sob, tears falling incessantly. “I’m tired. I want to sleep.”
“Okay.”
Si Yu’s voice was also strained. She picked up the gauze that had been covering Xu Chengjin’s eyes from the floor and threw it down, then carefully wiped away Xu Chengjin’s tears. She turned her head to look at the side toward Xu Jing. “You need to go and calm yourself down.”
The two of them walked out together. Xu Chengjin looked completely wilted, keeping her head down and trying to hold back tears, her eyes rimmed with red. Seeing this, Jin Xi immediately walked over. “What happened to Xiaojin?”
“She’s feeling a bit unwell. I’m taking her home first.”
Si Yu didn’t really want to tell Jin Xi about these matters. The issues between the Xu sisters had to be resolved by them, and right now, the most important thing was to let Xu Chengjin calm down.
“Is she alright? What happened? Where did the older sister go?”
Jin Xi was bewildered. She looked closely at Xu Chengjin, her brow furrowed. “What exactly happened?”
“I said she isn’t feeling well, don’t you understand?”
Si Yu directly put her arm around Xu Chengjin to lead her forward, her own temper rising. “I’m leaving. See you later.”
She didn’t want to talk to these people anymore. She led Xu Chengjin out; fortunately, she hadn’t been drinking, so she could drive home herself.
“Sit steady, don’t fall.”
Si Yu dismissed the driver and took the wheel herself. “It’s my fault. I was on the phone. I didn’t expect her to take the chance…”
Si Yu sighed, the words dying in her throat. She remained silent for a few seconds. “I didn’t hear much.”
“Did you know all along that she liked me?”
The end of Xu Chengjin’s voice was trembling. She curled up in the back seat. “Why… why…”
“I did know she liked you. The way she looked at you was different. Back when you were still biological sisters, based on my understanding of her, she wouldn’t have done anything to you. Besides, once certain words are spoken, it’s hard to take them back.”
Si Yu explained in a low voice, “What are your thoughts?”
“I’ve always seen her as my biological sister. How could I possibly…”
How could she possibly have different feelings for Xu Jing?
Xu Chengjin sobbed. “What should I do, Si Yu?”
Hearing the sound of Xu Chengjin crying, Si Yu couldn’t care about anything else. She found a safe spot to pull the car over, opened the door, and climbed into the back seat to pull her into an embrace. “Don’t cry. We can’t get too emotional right now. For the time being, let’s just not meet with her. Let things cool down first, okay?”
She could only soothe Xu Chengjin’s emotions for now. She knew the familial bond between the two was deep; it was impossible to simply cut those ties. Perhaps she would find Xu Jing later to have a talk.
“Si Yu.”
Xu Chengjin cupped Si Yu’s face, tears falling in large droplets. “Don’t leave me behind ever again, okay?”
“It can’t be like today. I was… I was really scared.”
Si Yu held Xu Chengjin’s hand, her own eyes reddening. She looked into Xu Chengjin’s eyes and took a deep breath. In the next second, she directly kissed the lips of the person before her—her lover.
The one she had loved for six years, from the past to the future, a love that had never wavered, enduring through time.
