- Chapter 73 - Go spend it with the person you like...
“Let’s go back to school first.”
Xu Chengjin patted Jin Xi’s back and gave a light laugh. “Once we’re back, I’ll help you handle everything.”
As soon as she said this, Jin Xi couldn’t say anything more. She could only sit properly and return to the school with Xu Chengjin.
This small interlude did not interfere with anyone else; they returned as usual to participate in the sports meet. Jin Xi had other events and happened to make it in time. Seeing this, Xu Chengjin did not disturb her, saying instead: “Good luck, I’ll be waiting for your good news.”
Jin Xi froze for a moment, her expression still appearing somewhat fragile. “Aren’t you coming with me?”
“No.”
Xu Chengjin shook her head. “I have other things to do. I’ll come find you as soon as I’m finished.”
“Alright then.”
Concealing the disappointment in her tone, Jin Xi slowly let out a breath and raised her lips, watching Xu Chengjin depart.
As for what those things were… regarding Chen Fang and that child, and what exactly happened all those years ago, Xu Chengjin felt it could no longer be delayed. The original plot seemed to have undergone a distortion, and she was afraid that in the end, it would become completely uncontrollable.
Si Yu was already waiting for her. Xu Chengjin followed the address provided by the other party and found the location; Si Yu was waiting for her inside the car.
“Is it handled?”
Si Yu opened the car door. She looked sideways at the person who had entered the vehicle, her tone unreadable in terms of joy or anger. “I’ve asked someone to help investigate; it will still take a little time.”
“Are you unhappy?”
Xu Chengjin keenly sensed that Si Yu’s tone was off. She sat in the passenger seat, looking at the scenery outside—she wasn’t happy either.
Si Yu denied Xu Chengjin’s suspicion. “No, I was just thinking that if I hadn’t rushed there, you probably could have handled these things yourself. Sometimes I think of you as too fragile, to the point of overlooking your own inherent strength.”
“Next time I won’t be so urgent; at the very least, I should wait until you need me…”
“Si Yu.”
Xu Chengjin called Si Yu by her full name. She squinted her eyes and stared at the other woman. “What madness are you playing at? I never said I didn’t need you. In truth, I was afraid those people would suddenly pounce; it was your appearance that made me feel more at ease.”
“Is that so?”
Si Yu did not show a smile. Instead, she let out a mocking twist of the corner of her mouth. “Miss Xu truly cares for others, doesn’t she? Even disregarding her own safety. I thought you weren’t afraid.”
“What do you mean by that?”
Xu Chengjin also picked up on the wrongness in Si Yu’s tone. She let out a dry laugh. “Are you mocking me?”
“I am not.”
Si Yu’s voice was very soft. “I am merely stating my viewpoint.”
“Huh?”
Xu Chengjin found it ridiculous. She took a deep breath. “Your viewpoint is that you think I’m trying to act brave?”
“No.” Si Yu refuted Xu Chengjin’s words once again. “I trust your decisions. I don’t think you are acting brave, but it is also true that I worry about you.”
“So, you feel I care too much about Jin Xi, is that it?”
Xu Chengjin finally understood Si Yu’s meaning, and she found it somewhat ironic. “Si Yu, I also want to ask you: what kind of feelings do you have for me?”
Si Yu suddenly stopped talking. Her silence made Xu Chengjin unable to keep from erupting. “Silence again. Then what right do you have to control me? Oh, right—the person you like has returned to the country, so other people aren’t that important anymore, right?”
“Then why did you come to find me?”
Xu Chengjin wanted to open the car door to get out, but Si Yu had already quick-wittedly locked the doors. In the next second, she was pulled into a death-grip embrace. The person behind her was trembling, yet also angry. She heard Si Yu questioning her:
“The person I like has returned to the country? Who did you hear that nonsense from?”
