- Chapter 59 - Don't Come Near Me
Xu Chengjin felt herself plummeting into darkness, utterly unable to see the road ahead. She didn’t feel fear, but rather confusion about what lay before her. The further she walked, the more she felt a source of fire, a scorching heat that made her involuntarily struggle until she touched human skin—
She was startled awake. Xu Chengjin abruptly opened her eyes and instinctively reached to her side. It was that touch that brought her completely to her senses.
Breathing sounds, distinctly touchable skin, one after another—this was telling Xu Chengjin that there was someone next to her.
Someone had gotten into the dorm so late?
Where was Wu Boran? Was this person a man or a woman, and how did they get in?
Was Wu Boran okay?
Xu Chengjin could barely bring herself to consider these questions. Her whole body began to tremble. Just as she cautiously started to shift to the side, the person wrapped an arm around her waist: “Don’t move…”
“Slap—”
Xu Chengjin immediately slapped them. She didn’t care about anything else, pushing the person away and sitting up, constantly backing away. Her voice was clearly trembling, yet she spoke loudly in warning: “I don’t care who you are, get off my bed right now!”
Her voice wasn’t quiet. She had thought it would wake Wu Boran, but there was no sound from the opposite bed. Xu Chengjin’s heart, already worried, sank further: “I’m telling you…”
“What’s wrong?”
Wu Boran’s voice suddenly rang out. Xu Chengjin froze for a few seconds before she stared blankly at the person. She asked with extreme uncertainty: “Wu Boran?”
“It’s me.”
Wu Boran was stunned by the slap. She scratched her hair, a little sheepishly: “There’s no one else, it’s me.”
“You…”
Xu Chengjin’s mind completely failed to process this; she never expected the person accompanying her was Wu Boran: “Why are you in my bed?”
Wu Boran let out a breath: “You were having a nightmare. I wanted to wake you up, but…”
She trailed off, falling silent, and Xu Chengjin also stayed quiet, sitting motionless on the bed.
Wu Boran continued: “I was afraid you’d be scared, so I thought I’d stay and sleep with you.”
It was true she was afraid Xu Chengjin would have nightmares, but it was hard to tell how much of her reason was due to that.
“Then you should have just woken me up.”
Xu Chengjin felt she absolutely couldn’t calm down. After she spoke, she intended to get out of bed to cool off. To wake up from a deep sleep and suddenly find someone next to you—if her state of mind had been slightly worse, she might have been scared senseless right then and there.
“Wait!”
Wu Boran hurriedly grabbed Xu Chengjin’s wrist, her face anxious: “I didn’t think that much at the time, okay? Don’t be mad.”
“I am very mad right now, do you understand?” Xu Chengjin struggled to control her trembling breath, “So the correct thing for you to do is to let go of my hand!”
“I won’t!”
Wu Boran felt that if she let go, Xu Chengjin would definitely ignore her. She ignored the pain on her face and cautiously leaned in behind Xu Chengjin, whispering: “I won’t do this again. I’m sorry.”
“I told you I don’t need your apology. Let go of me, now!”
Xu Chengjin struggled, her voice unconsciously rising: “Do you have any idea how much I dislike this action! I almost thought something had happened to you!”
“Wu Boran!”
Xu Chengjin’s wrist was held by Wu Boran, and she couldn’t break free. Their movements had pulled the curtains apart somewhat, and the moonlight outside the window streamed in, casting a soft glow over both their faces.
“You—”
Xu Chengjin was about to speak, but the words caught in her throat the moment she turned and felt the other person’s breath. Wu Boran’s expression seemed unusual; she was pressing her whole body closer. Xu Chengjin heard Wu Boran say: “Xiao Jin.”
Xiao Jin.
Xu Chengjin took a deep breath, arching her body backward. Following Wu Boran’s burning gaze, she realized the other woman was staring at her lips. She heard Wu Boran say, almost in a whisper:
“I want to stay with you…”
