- Chapter 43 - Don't You Want to Look at Me?
“Was she just mocking us?”
Wu Boran leaned closer to Jin Xi, narrowing her eyes: “Was she calling us little kids?”
Jin Xi nodded, giving a low “Mm” in a serious tone: “Yes.”
“Heh.”
Wu Boran sneered and turned her head away: “Don’t bother arguing with people like that, it’s not worth it.”
Of course, they wouldn’t start a fight in this setting. After exchanging silent insults with their eyes, the three quietly waited for Xu Chengjin to make her appearance.
“Welcome everyone to my little girl’s birthday banquet.” Mr. Xu’s voice carried through the crowd. He stood on the second floor, smiling benignly at the people below, then extended his hand in a gesture of invitation.
The crowd’s gaze followed, and Xu Chengjin, supported by her mother, slowly appeared before the assembled guests. She smiled brightly: “Good evening, everyone.”
Her entrance certainly stunned quite a few people. They all knew Xu Chengjin was beautiful, but they hadn’t expected her to be so breathtakingly stunning.
“I never imagined your daughter would grow up to be so beautiful,” a few guests walked over and began to flatter Xu Chengjin. “I wonder if she has a sweetheart yet.”
Xu Chengjin stood at the front of the crowd. Although slightly behind her mother, the aura around her was still impressive. Just as she was about to answer, her mother gently stopped her, and Xu Jing walked over immediately: “That question doesn’t seem to warrant a reply.”
She approached with a cold expression. Xu’s Corporation has been under Xu Jing’s management for several years, and everyone was well aware of her character. Seeing her response, the people awkwardly backed off.
Xu Jing turned to look at Xu Chengjin. Since the morning, Xu Chengjin had been unwilling to speak to her. Even when she gave a gift hoping to apologize, her attitude remained extremely cool, as if there was a major conflict between them.
The awkwardness between the two was apparent even to the slow-witted Mr. Xu.
He even asked Xu Jing if she had upset Xu Chengjin. How could she tell him the truth, that she had bullied someone else?
She figured that even if she had, her parents’ attitude would be one that money could smooth over.
But Xu Chengjin was precisely not that kind of person. If Xu Jing really had done that, it would truly lead to an estrangement.
“Xiaobao (Little Treasure).”
Xu Jing carefully examined Xu Chengjin, then gave a light laugh: “Go enjoy yourself. I’ll handle things here.”
Xu Chengjin met Xu Jing’s eyes, took a deep breath, and her tone softened considerably: “Okay, don’t drink.”
“Mm, don’t worry. I have something to talk to you about later, Older Sister.”
Xu Jing gently patted Xu Chengjin’s shoulder and forced a slightly unnatural smile: “I saw your two friends came over. Do you want to go see them?”
“Jin Xi and Wu Boran?”
When Xu Chengjin saw Xu Jing nod, she said: “Then I’ll excuse myself. Call me if you need anything.”
“Alright.”
Xu Jing watched Xu Chengjin leave, her gaze focused, watching the other girl’s skirt hem move as she gradually walked out of her sight. Just as Xu Jing was about to turn around, a hand landed on her shoulder. Mrs. Xu asked coldly: “What are you looking at?”
Xu Jing’s eyes flickered slightly. She turned around and met her mother’s gaze head-on, then remained silent for a long time.
Meanwhile, Xu Chengjin was in a good mood. Although her outfit was heavy, her steps were exceptionally light. She quickly found the two people sitting to the side, though it was obvious they had just been arguing.
“You guys—”
Xu Chengjin lightened her steps. She came up behind the two, then gently bent down and whispered: “What are you secretly talking about?”
“Don’t you want to look at me?”
