- Chapter 17 - Sister, What Are You Doing in My Room...
Xu Chengjin finally managed to escape from Wu Boran’s embrace. She felt her whole body was heating up, not from illness, but simply from a feeling of discomfort.
“No need,” Xu Chengjin gave the nurse an apologetic smile, biting her lip. “I’ve had the needle removed, right? Please take the empty bottle.”
The nurse was completely stunned when she entered. She knew this ward housed wealthy people, but she hadn’t expected to see four people “tangled” together.
She smiled at Xu Chengjin, pretending not to notice anything, and quickly took the empty medicine bottle away.
My goodness, the rich really know how to play.
“I want to go home.”
Xu Chengjin took two steps back, keeping some distance from the three of them. “Jinxi and Wu Boran, you two go back first. We have class this afternoon. I’ll go to school when I feel a bit better.”
“I…” Wu Boran was about to say something when Xu Jing stopped her with a look. Although she was unhappy, she still pulled Jinxi away. “Then we’ll go first.”
“Don’t touch me, I have feet, thank you.”
Jinxi shook off Wu Boran’s hand. She waved at Xu Chengjin, “See you later.”
Xu Chengjin smiled faintly, “See you later.”
After the two left the ward, only she and Xu Jing remained. Xu Chengjin clasped her hands behind her back. She still felt a bit awkward, as if the other person’s body temperature still lingered on her right hand.
“Xiao Jin.”
Xu Jing stood up, breaking the silence first. Just as she was about to walk over and touch Xu Chengjin, the other person immediately darted into the bathroom and locked the door. She was stunned. “Xiao Jin?”
“Let’s go home. I don’t want to stay in the hospital.”
Xu Chengjin leaned back against the door, covering her face and taking a deep breath. She then put down her hands and looked at her reflection in the mirror. The tips of her ears were flushed red, and the redness even spread to her neck. Her skin was too prone to leaving marks.
She lifted her patient gown and looked at her lower abdomen. A red mark, a temporary imprint from her struggles earlier, lay on her slightly protruding belly.
Xu Chengjin narrowed her eyes and exhaled. The next second, she heard Xu Jing’s compromising voice. The other person said:
“I’ll take you home.”
Later, it took Xu Jing a while to handle the discharge procedures, and she continuously tried to coax Xu Chengjin to stay in the hospital. However, she eventually completed all the formalities successfully.
They spent half a day dealing with it, and it was already dark when they left the hospital. Although it wasn’t too late, they still informed Father and Mother Xu, telling them not to wait up and to stick to their normal routines.
Father and Mother Xu were very health-conscious and usually went to bed before eight in the evening if they had nothing to worry about.
So, when they opened the door to the house, it was especially quiet.
Xu Chengjin was very careful with her movements. She changed her shoes and quickly said, “Good night,” to Xu Jing.
Then, before Xu Jing could react, she ran up the stairs.
Xu Chengjin disappeared in the blink of an eye like a little rabbit. Xu Jing was amused. She looked helplessly in the direction the other person had left and softly said, “Just like a child.”
It was a good thing Xu Chengjin wasn’t there, or she would surely have pointed out that she was indeed still young.
At nineteen, she was certainly in the prime of her youth.
Xu Chengjin didn’t think too much. Upon returning to her room, she felt an overwhelming sense of fatigue. She rubbed her wrist and quickly took a shower. She didn’t like the smell of medicine all over her.
“So tired.” Xu Chengjin lay on her bed. Her pajamas at home were also a nightgown, but a different style than the one she wore in the dorm. This set was a red slip dress with shoulder ties. If you pulled the ties, the dress would slide down from the top. She didn’t wear this nightgown often, but she had grabbed it casually today and hadn’t given it much thought.
Xu Chengjin first sent messages to Jinxi and Wu Boran, telling them she was home and about to sleep. She felt instantly content after receiving their good nights.
But there was still one other person…
Xu Chengjin hesitated. Just as she was about to turn off her phone, Si Yu suddenly sent her a message: [Feeling any better?]
Xu Chengjin blinked. After thinking for a moment, she sent a voice message directly: “I’m home already. Thank you for your concern, CEO Si. I’m going to sleep now.”
“That should be okay,” Xu Chengjin muttered after speaking. She tapped her finger on her phone case and quickly received a response from the other person.
It was also a voice message—”You said we were friends just this morning. But still, I wish you sweet dreams. Good night.”
Si Yu’s voice was a bit commanding and low. At this moment, perhaps from drinking, Xu Chengjin felt that her tone was slightly airy and contained a hint of a smile, as if she had deliberately elevated her voice a little.
Xu Chengjin chuckled softly. She replied with a good night, then turned off her phone and the lights, before comfortably burrowing under the covers to sleep.
The night was very still, and even the moonlight carried a misty beauty. Xu Chengjin should have had a peaceful night’s sleep, but her illness caused her to wake up coughing halfway through the night.
Xu Chengjin sat up uncomfortably, tears welling in her eyes. The pressure in her chest and the dryness in her mouth forced her to get up and go downstairs to find water.
So thirsty.
Xu Chengjin’s steps were slightly unsteady. She slowly walked downstairs. The buzzing in her ears prevented her from thinking clearly for a moment, so she could only rely on muscle memory to pour herself a glass of water and drink it.
Only when the water flowed down her lips and into her stomach did Xu Chengjin feel much clearer.
She breathed in small gasps. After gently setting down the cup, she planned to go back upstairs. Xu Chengjin kept all her movements very quiet, afraid of waking anyone up.
Xu Chengjin tiptoed to the second floor. Just as she silently let out a sigh of relief, she immediately froze the moment she looked up.
She saw Xu Jing walking out of her room, her face etched with anxiety and unease.
The small nightlight in the hallway allowed them to see each other clearly.
It was three in the morning. What was Xu Jing doing in her room?
Xu Chengjin’s lips moved. She looked at Xu Jing’s cold figure and realized her voice was a little hoarse. She took a small step back, asking uncertainly:
“Sister, were you just coming to look for me?”
