- Chapter 15 - Are you guys tired of me?
“What just made a noise?”
Although Xu Jing’s words were clearly a question, her eyes were fixed on Xu Chengjin and Si Yu’s wrists: “Was it this?”
“Yes.”
Xu Chengjin silently withdrew her hand. Si Yu had helped her up, and her face was pale, completely drained of color. Even her voice was weak: “General Si gave it to me.”
Xu Jing let out a light laugh. She looked up and met Si Yu’s gaze: “I didn’t expect your relationship with General Si to be so good that she’s giving you gifts.”
“Then why did it vibrate just now?” Xu Jing had no intention of dropping the issue. She folded her arms: “Is the bracelet broken?”
“Of course not.” Si Yu lowered her head to look at Xu Chengjin, her gaze gentle, but the words she spoke made Xu Chengjin tremble with fear: “Naturally, it’s because this bracelet is the newest product developed by my company, and the paired…”
Xu Chengjin reached out and tugged at Si Yu’s sleeve. She turned her head, her eyes full of disapproval.
Si Yu paused. She saw Xu Chengjin’s reaction and raised an eyebrow. The words at the tip of her tongue changed course: “The paired bracelets will alert you when they touch. I was having her help me test it out. Miss Xu also has good intentions.”
After speaking, she glanced at Xu Chengjin out of the corner of her eye and noticed the other woman silently letting out a breath of relief.
So she’s this afraid of their relationship being discovered—
“Xiao Jin, is that really the case?” Xu Jing’s tone softened slightly, but she still said, “Next time, don’t agree to a stranger’s request so easily. What if someone with bad intentions uses you? You’ll be counting money for the person who cheated you.”
Si Yu: “…”
She’s talking about me.
“General Xu is right. You shouldn’t accept things from strangers carelessly, but luckily, we are friends.” Si Yu suddenly leaned down and moved closer to Xu Chengjin. She curled her lips: “Wouldn’t you say so?”
Xu Chengjin’s breath hitched. Her body tensed up, as she realized these people kept circling back to the topic of her. Her lips parted, and she distinctly felt several gazes aimed at her.
Too many eyes.
Especially Si Yu’s. Xu Chengjin felt that if she said no, this villain would twist her head off the next moment.
“Yes.”
Xu Chengjin said softly: “We are friends.”
They were indeed friends—friends who had spent a night together.
Thinking of this relationship, Xu Chengjin couldn’t help but avoid Si Yu’s gaze. It was too intense. She was afraid she would blush and tried to use this movement to push away the memory of that night.
But her evasive action caused others to misunderstand. Wu Boran scoffed: “Looking at you, you don’t seem very willing.”
“Were you threatened?”
Hearing this, Si Yu turned her head to look at Wu Boran, her smile vanishing: “Do you think you’re very clever?”
Jin Xi, who was standing nearby, also spoke: “Xiao Jin, I understand you. If you feel threatened, you must say so.”
Xu Jing frowned and countered sarcastically: “You’ve only known each other for a few days; are you so completely understanding already?”
Xu Chengjin opened her mouth, wanting to explain that it wasn’t true. She raised her hand and looked at the four people with confusion: “It’s not… I… that…”
“Don’t say anything, Xiao Jin, older sister understands what you mean.” Xu Jing raised her hand to stop Xu Chengjin from speaking. After she spoke, Jin Xi looked back at Si Yu: “General Si, I don’t understand why you are approaching my sister, but I know my sister doesn’t like you, so please keep your distance from her in the future.”
Xu Jing’s words made Si Yu laugh. She bit her lip: “Do you understand your sister so well?”
“Have you asked her true feelings?” Si Yu glanced at Jin Xi and Wu Boran: “And you two, adding fuel to the fire and twisting the facts. I really don’t know how you managed to become friends with Xu Chengjin.”
“Understanding doesn’t necessarily require a lot of time.” Jin Xi furrowed her brow and looked at Si Yu with clear disapproval: “Xiao Jin simply doesn’t like you. This afternoon, she went to find you even under the scorching sun.”
Wu Boran said coldly: “No wonder she felt a little unwell this afternoon. So that’s what happened.”
Wu Boran then added: “But you didn’t even try to dissuade her a little. Yet, I see you’re quite worried about her health right now.”
Jin Xi and Wu Boran exchanged a look but quickly averted their gazes.
Xu Jing felt even more uneasy. Her tone was anxious: “Is that true?”
“Xu Chengjin, why don’t you tell them yourself.”
Si Yu sat back down. She crossed her legs, awaiting Xu Chengjin’s answer. Everyone else also fixed their eyes on Xu Chengjin.
Four women were waiting for her answer.
Xu Chengjin didn’t understand how things had escalated to this point. She gripped the blanket and slowly adjusted her breathing: “It’s not like that.”
She felt that Jin Xi’s gaze seemed a little sympathetic toward her.
Huh?
“General Si and I really are friends. We arranged for me to accompany her this afternoon.”
She then noticed that Wu Boran’s gaze had become displeased, seemingly dissatisfied with her response.
“I wasn’t threatened. It was just a turn of my head; it didn’t have that many implications.”
Xu Jing softly “Tsked.” Xu Chengjin turned her head to look and realized her sister seemed unhappy.
“I told you people only add fuel to the fire when explaining the facts.”
Si Yu was in a much better mood. She got up and straightened her clothes: “I have things to do, so I’ll be leaving. Also, General Xu, being so temperamental won’t make you a good businesswoman. It looks like reaching my position will be quite difficult for you.”
She stepped toward the door, and as she passed Jin Xi and Wu Boran, she suddenly chuckled, leaving them with one last sentence: “I’m off. See you later.”
It was obvious who that last sentence was directed at.
Xu Chengjin watched Si Yu leave. When she recovered her senses, she found the atmosphere in the hospital room was incredibly silent.
The others weren’t speaking. She looked around and felt that the current scene was very strange. Xu Jing was Jin Xi’s older sister, and she was Wu Boran’s future partner, so they should logically be like family, yet they all seemed unable to tolerate each other.
“Why aren’t you guys saying anything?”
Xu Chengjin’s voice was weak. After asking, she bundled herself up in the blanket: “What’s wrong?”
No sooner had she spoken than the bracelet on her hand started to vibrate again. It wasn’t as obvious as before, but it was enough to make the strange sensation impossible for Xu Chengjin to ignore.
She was surrounded by three other women, and in her arms was a gift from yet another woman…
Xu Chengjin lowered her eyes, suppressing the odd feelings in her heart. She whispered:
“Are you guys tired of me?”
