The Sickly Fake Daughter, But a Beloved Darling of All - Chapter 123
Xu Lihua sneered upon hearing the words. She decided to simply break the jars and let them shatter—if the mother of the Xu family looked like this, she likely already knew what had happened back then. “Do you know the one thing I regret most now?”
Mother Xu did not make a sound, only watching her quietly.
“It’s that I didn’t just strangle your child to death back then—”
Slap—
Mother Xu struck her with a backhand blow. Her eyes were bloodshot, and it was not difficult to see the pain and resentment within them. “We are biological sisters! How could you do such a thing!”
“What about biological sisters?” Xu Lihua found it laughable. She lifted her head slightly to look at Mother Xu, her eyes filled with blatant disdain. “Ever since we were little, Mom and Dad liked you the most. Because you had good grades and ambition, I was always ignored. How could I not hate you?”
“Xu Lihua!”
Mother Xu gripped Xu Lihua’s face forcefully, gritting her teeth. “Have I not been good enough to you?”
From the moment Xu Lihua was born, Mother Xu had wanted nothing more than to give her every good thing she had. She had seen their parents’ neglect of Xu Lihua, so she had spent her life compensating for it—spoiling her, even. In all these years, the number of times she had hit Xu Lihua could be counted on one hand.
Back then, when Xu Lihua insisted on going abroad to develop her career, Mother Xu felt her foundation wasn’t stable enough and wanted her to wait. Unfortunately, Xu Lihua was unwilling, and that was why the two of them had their explosive argument. Afterward, Xu Lihua left for twenty years. Mother Xu held resentment in her heart, yet when she heard her sister was returning, her heart softened after all.
What barrier could there truly be between biological sisters?
But when she learned what Xu Lihua had done, she felt in a daze that all those years of sincere affection had been given to the wrong person.
“You were indeed very good to me.” Xu Lihua began to laugh, and as she laughed, tears slid from the corners of her eyes. She took a deep breath. “That is exactly why I hate you. I hate you to death.”
Mother Xu found Xu Lihua utterly unreasonable. She stood up and took a breath to steady herself. “I still don’t understand. Why did you do it? You destroyed so many people and so many families just because you wanted to get back at me?”
“That’s right.”
Xu Lihua looked triumphant, completely devoid of any remorse. “It was all to get back at you. I didn’t care at all what would happen to those people’s futures; I only cared about the result. But I didn’t expect Xu Chengjin to survive. I really wanted to see the look of agony on your face from losing a child.”
“Madwoman!”
Mother Xu picked up a stick from the ground and swung it directly at Xu Lihua’s back, gasping for air. “You are too malicious.”
“This is just who I am. Are you only just realizing it, Sister?”
Xu Lihua sneered, appearing as though she felt no pain at all. “I have never regretted it. Never!”
“Madwoman… unreasonable!”
Mother Xu’s heart bled as she looked at her. She closed her eyes, still feeling an incomparable chill. Xu Lihua was the one she had raised with doting care; how could she have turned into this?
“Think about it carefully by yourself.”
“Are you going to call the police?”
Xu Lihua suddenly shouted after Mother Xu. “Sister, can you bear to have me leave you?”
Mother Xu’s footsteps paused. She turned around to look at Xu Lihua, meeting the eyes of her biological sister. Those eyes contained too many emotions, just like when she had discovered the truth back then…
“Xu Lihua.”
Mother Xu’s face was deathly pale, but every word was powerful. “I will never come to see you again.”
The smile slowly faded from Xu Lihua’s face. She took a deep breath and suddenly began to laugh wildly. “I hate you! I hate you to death!”
Mother Xu ignored Xu Lihua. She walked out of the empty warehouse where Xu Chengjin and Si Yu were waiting for her. She looked at Si Yu and said softly, “Don’t let her have it easy.”
“I won’t.”
Si Yu squeezed Xu Chengjin’s hand. She gave it a little squeeze and said, “You go back first. I’ll handle things here.”
Mother Xu looked as if she had used up all her strength. Her lips were dry, and her steps were a bit unsteady. “Don’t let her die. There is still the punishment of the law waiting for her.”
“Mom.”
Xu Chengjin felt that Mother Xu’s emotions weren’t right. She supported Mother Xu worriedly. “Are you really okay?”
“I’m fine.”
Mother Xu patted Xu Chengjin’s hand, forcing herself to rally her spirits. “I’m going back first. You two come back early too; don’t stay out too late.”
“Okay.”
Xu Chengjin slowly let go of her hand, watching as Mother Xu departed.
“Don’t worry too much.” Si Yu put her arm around Xu Chengjin’s shoulder. The two of them looked at each other and then leaned close, slowly warming their two hearts against the increasingly cold weather.
They didn’t plan to let Xu Lihua face legal judgment quite so soon. Since Mother Xu said she wouldn’t come to see Xu Lihua, she truly never did. Every day, it was either Si Yu or Xu Chengjin who came to see her. Si Yu looked at the person who hadn’t eaten much over the past few days, a mocking smile appearing on her face. “You murdered a total of seven people.”
“Only seven? If only Jin Xi and Xu Chengjin were counted, that would make nine. I wish you both long-lasting happiness.”
Xu Lihua could no longer smile. She collapsed on the ground. “Where is she? Why hasn’t she come to see me?”
“She said she doesn’t want to see you; she thinks you’re disgusting.” Si Yu’s tone was light as she sat in a chair, looking down at Xu Lihua. “Xu Lihua, did you know? Actually, Xu Jing liked Xiaojin.”
Hearing this, Xu Lihua slowly crawled up. Her movements were pathetic; with her hands tied behind her back, movement was extremely difficult. She looked up. “Since when?”
“Back when Jin Xi hadn’t yet returned to the Xu family.”
Si Yu leaned down slightly and said softly, “Do you know what your sister did?”
“She resolutely disagreed.”
There was no smile on Si Yu’s face as she stood up to look at Xu Lihua. “Originally, things wouldn’t have come to this point… but now, she won’t give you another glance.”
After Si Yu finished speaking, she intended to leave. Just as she turned around, she heard Xu Lihua’s laughter. In the next second, Xu Lihua began to frantically smash her head against the wall. By the time Si Yu recovered her senses, the wall was already stained with blood. She grabbed Xu Lihua by the hair and warned through gritted teeth, “Letting you die like this would be too easy for you.”
“Watch her for me!”
Si Yu let go, disdainfully dusting off her hands. Upon standing, she met the gaze of the person standing at the door. Xu Chengjin stood with her back to the sunlight. She glanced indifferently at Xu Lihua, though her gaze always carried a smile when she looked at Si Yu. “It’s time for lunch. Let’s go home.”
“Okay.”
Si Yu strode toward Xu Chengjin. “I made a reservation at a restaurant. Later…”
The voices of the two drifted further away. Xu Lihua leaned against the wall, watching the sunlight outside the window as her eyes gradually closed.
“President Si.”
Xu Chengjin was having dinner with Si Yu. Hearing this, she was the first to look up. “What happened?”
The bodyguard said in a low voice, “Xu Lihua broke out. She was hit by an oncoming car.”
Xu Chengjin put down her chopsticks and frowned slightly. “Is she dead?”
“No, but she probably won’t be able to keep her legs.”
“Is that so…”
Xu Chengjin pulled out a tissue to wipe her mouth. Ignoring Si Yu’s warning gaze, she said directly, “Then call the police. Let her live however the law decides to sentence her.”
“Yes.”
The bodyguard exited the villa. Xu Chengjin rose as well, but in the next moment, her wrist was grabbed by Si Yu. “Have another bowl of soup.”
“I really can’t eat any more.”
Xu Chengjin shook Si Yu’s hand and blinked. Her smile was shallow. “What do you think her outcome will be?”
“She won’t live long.”
Si Yu wrapped her arms around Xu Chengjin’s waist, pressing her face against the other’s abdomen. She said deeply, “She will go to hell after she dies. The mistakes she committed won’t be cleared even in several lifetimes.”
Xu Chengjin leaned her waist against the edge of the table. She lowered her head to gently stroke Si Yu’s hair, but remained silent.
That same year, Xu Lihua was sentenced to death, and Chen Fang and others were thrown into prison. Before Xu Lihua’s execution, her sister did not break her word; from the day she left, she never went to see Xu Lihua again, not even appearing at the moment of her death.
All the hatred and love were obliterated by time at that moment, only to sprout anew in a new life—facing the first rays of sunlight, striving upward until finally dissipating at the end of death.
