- The Sickly Fake Daughter, But a Beloved Darling of All
- Chapter 103 - What Can You Possibly Compare to Her?
Si Yu didn’t know what she was thinking. Mother Xu waited for a long while before finally hearing the other woman’s hoarse voice: “Let her tell me herself.”
“Do you still not understand? I know Xiaojin’s personality. She was merely using you as a brief escape from reality. Once she figures things out, how could she possibly continue to be with you?”
Mother Xu’s logic was strong. She quickly recalled what Si Yu had said and immediately began to bridge the logic of the situation: “I was at the company just now and thought something had truly gone wrong. It was only after I called Xu Jing that I found out Xiaojin had arrived home long ago. I also asked her why she was ignoring you; she said her thoughts are a bit messy right now and she wants to be alone for a while. I was truly afraid something had happened to her just now.”
Thinking carefully, these words were plausible. Si Yu took a deep breath. She stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window of her office, then finally said: “This is a matter between her and me. Let me speak with her.”
“Xu Chengjin is not the type of person to have others deliver messages for her. I hold a skeptical attitude toward what you are saying.”
Si Yu’s stance was firm: “How can I be sure this isn’t something you’ve fabricated?”
“Si Yu, do you really not understand?”
Mother Xu sighed, her tone carrying a hint of heartache: “Those rumors surrounding you… to be honest, I really don’t feel at ease handing Xiaojin over to you. I know Xu Jing likes Xiaojin; they are both daughters I raised, how could I not be aware?”
“Thinking back, I must have been out of my mind to agree in the beginning. After all, you two are truly ill-suited. Furthermore, the things you did back then were too fierce. Her health isn’t good either, and you wouldn’t want to push her to…”
Mother Xu did not finish her sentence, but Si Yu understood perfectly in her heart. She remained silent for a few seconds, lowering her eyes to look at the heavy traffic below. She said: “I want to see her.”
Mother Xu sighed and said: “Make it a bit later. Give her some space to be by herself.”
With that, Mother Xu hung up the phone. Listening to the disconnected tone, Si Yu’s entire being instantly radiated an aura of despondency. In truth, the person she was most uncertain of—the one she could never truly grasp—was Xu Chengjin. She truly could not bear to hurt Xu Chengjin, which was why she hadn’t wanted to get close to her after her parents died.
Because sometimes, Si Yu truly felt she was a jinx.
She possessed wealth and power, yet she happened to fall completely for the sake of her emotions. Si Yu often felt she was being overly sentimental, yet she was helpless against it. She had waited for Xu Chengjin for far too long.
If…
If Xu Chengjin personally told her that she wanted to end this relationship, she would accept it.
Emotions are volatile and ever-changing; Si Yu would not resent a “fickle” Xu Chengjin. After all, there had already been warmth between them.
Having those memories of their affection would be enough.
“What time is it now?”
Xu Chengjin leaned against the bed, casually tilting her head to one side. “How long did I sleep?”
Xu Jing sat on a chair in the room. She glanced at the time, her tone upbeat: “It’s eight o’clock in the evening. You’ve slept for quite a while. Have you not been sleeping well these past few days?”
“I cried myself out.”
Xu Chengjin didn’t explain much to Xu Jing. She slowly exhaled: “Where did my phone go?”
“Xiaojin.”
Xu Jing let out a light chuckle. She walked over to Xu Chengjin and very lightly pinched the back of Xu Chengjin’s neck, though the latter immediately dodged. Seeing this, Xu Jing felt a sense of loss, but she said nothing: “It seems you haven’t grasped the situation yet. How could I possibly give the phone to you?”
“Si Yu did call you several times, though.”
Xu Jing curled her lips: “Unfortunately, I didn’t answer any of them.”
“I want to see Mother!”
Upon hearing news of Si Yu, Xu Chengjin immediately spoke loudly: “If Mother…”
“Mother already knows.”
The smile on Xu Jing’s face was completely irrepressible: “Mother even helped me speak with Si Yu. She said you no longer want to be with her and told Si Yu to let you go.”
Xu Chengjin looked disbelieving: “How could Mother possibly help you? What you’re doing is wrong.”
“Xiaojin, Mother has known for a long time that I like you.” Xu Jing took hold of Xu Chengjin’s hand, her tone gentle. “So she agrees now. We both have the surname Xu; we are both children of the Xu family. We don’t even have to register a marriage. Regardless, we are both on the same household register.”
The more Xu Jing spoke, the more excited she became: “I know you don’t like Si Yu. I will help you handle this relationship.”
“Who said I don’t like Si Yu?”
Xu Chengjin coldly interrupted Xu Jing, her smile somewhat bitter: “Who said I don’t like her?”
“If I didn’t like her, would I have proposed getting engaged to her?”
Xu Chengjin mercilessly shattered Xu Jing’s fantasy: “I could have gone to Wu Boran, I could have gone to others. Guess why I only agreed to Si Yu.”
“I really like her. It’s a pity I never said those words to her face.”
Xu Chengjin turned her head away, her voice choking up slightly: “I cannot get agitated right now, and I don’t want to say too much to you.”
“Xiaojin.”
Xu Jing quickly adjusted her emotions: “Actually, I don’t care. As long as I like you—”
Xu Chengjin suddenly turned her head. She “looked” at Xu Jing calmly. Even though those eyes were currently hollow and sightless, they still rendered Xu Jing unable to utter a single word.
In the next second, she heard Xu Chengjin say: “I like Si Yu.”
“Not only do I like her, I’ve slept with her.”
“Xu Jing.”
Xu Chengjin said, word by word:
“What can you possibly compare to her?”
