The Sickly Beauty Beta Got Pregnant After A Political Marriage - Chapter 6
It wasn’t until he was sitting in the car heading towards the Civil Affairs Bureau that Shen Jiayu slowly emerged from his dazed state.
He was about to register his marriage with Mr. Wen.
The thought made him feel a sense of trance. Although getting married was written into the agreement, Mr. Wen hadn’t mentioned it before, leading Shen Jiayu to think the other man might have had some reservations.
After getting out of the car, he found that Wen Xiuheng had already arrived. To enter the Civil Affairs Bureau, they had to walk up a flight of stairs that looked a bit steep.
Wen Xiuheng reached out his hand to Shen Jiayu and said gallantly, “Hold onto me, be careful not to fall.”
“Um… okay.” Shen Jiayu nodded, slightly stunned, and took the Alpha’s arm. They walked up the steps slowly together, with Wen Xiuheng’s other arm hovering protectively behind Shen Jiayu.
The registration process went very quickly. Soon, Shen Jiayu held a small red booklet in his hand. He blinked, staring blankly at the marriage certificate. Now, he and Mr. Wen were partners in the true legal sense.
Then… those answers I saw about the “marital obligations a partner needs to fulfill”… do I have to do those too?
At that thought, Shen Jiayu’s cheeks flushed a deep red.
At dinner, Wen Xiuheng returned home, which was a rare occurrence.
Because they had just registered their marriage, Shen Jiayu felt shy and cramped sitting across from Wen Xiuheng.
From across the table, Wen Xiuheng’s voice drifted over: “I need to go abroad on a business trip tomorrow and the day after. I’ll be back in two days.”
Shen Jiayu stopped chewing, his eyes widening slightly as he looked at him, his cheeks puffed out like a little hamster.
Going abroad on a business trip?
Seeing his cute expression, a curve tugged at the corner of Wen Xiuheng’s lips. “The group is currently busy acquiring two overseas companies. I’m needed there unexpectedly.”
Shen Jiayu blinked. He wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination, but he felt like Mr. Wen was reporting his itinerary to him, just like one of the items he had seen in the answers for “obligations of a partner.”
Since Wen Xiuheng had work to do, Shen Jiayu nodded obediently and asked, “When do you leave?”
“Tonight.”
That meant Mr. Wen would be leaving right after dinner.
Shen Jiayu’s eyes crinkled into a soft smile. “Safe travels.”
Wen Xiuheng watched his smile. “Mm, alright.”
After Wen Xiuheng left, Shen Jiayu began preparing for the start of school. There were only two days left, and he knew he would become busy once the semester began. If all went according to plan, the day Mr. Wen returned would be his first day of school.
The night before school started, Shen Jiayu lay in bed, unable to sleep. Thinking back on everything that had happened during this winter break, he still felt a sense of unreality.
The family bankruptcy, his father’s illness, the marriage alliance with Mr. Wen, moving into his villa, registering the marriage…
One thing after another, all occurring within a short two months span.
Memories flashed through his mind continuously. After a long while, still not feeling sleepy, he got up to get some drawing paper. As he passed the floor to ceiling window and saw the scene outside, he couldn’t help but smile.
It was snowing again.
Unlike the heavy, continuous snow during his first meeting with Mr. Wen, these were scattered, drifting flakes. It didn’t look like it would last long, this was likely the final snow before the true arrival of spring.
Shen Jiayu took out his pen and paper and began to sketch against the backdrop of the falling snow. Gradually, a snowy night scene took shape on the paper, and he finally began to feel drowsy.
Suddenly, a notification pinged from his phone on the table. He opened it and froze.
In the message from the sender named “Mr. Wen,” there were two short words:
“Goodnight.”
It’s a message from Mr. Wen… Shen Jiayu murmured to himself. Auntie Cui had given him Wen Xiuheng’s number on his first day there, and he had left his own number with her, so it wasn’t strange that Wen Xiuheng had it.
Is Mr. Wen still awake too?
Shen Jiayu knew he had gone to Country D. There was a two hours time difference between the countries, meaning it was even later there. He wondered if the work was going smoothly, but then thought it might be inappropriate to ask too much about business matters.
He hesitated while typing and eventually chose to simply reply “Goodnight.” Thinking that was too brief, he wanted to add something else.
Looking at the snow outside, he let a small smile play on his lips and added:
“It’s snowing, Mr. Wen.”
At that moment, in a VIP suite on the top floor of a luxury hotel in the center of Country D, Wen Xiuheng stood by the window. He looked down quietly at the reply he had just received. Then, his silver-gray eyes turned to the window. Beneath the bustling city lights, snowflakes were also drifting down.
“Mm, here as well.”
On the day school started, Shen Jiayu was taken to campus by a driver Wen Xiuheng had arranged.
There were no classes on the first day, it was mainly the opening ceremony. On the way to school, Shen Jiayu looked down at the text he had received from Mr. Wen the previous night.
In the second night’s message, Mr. Wen had reminded him not to forget his emergency medication.
Shen Jiayu had replied: “Mm, okay ^ ^”
Later, Wen Xiuheng sent another: “Goodnight, see you tomorrow.”
Shen Jiayu knew that “tomorrow” was today. Mr. Wen was coming back.
When he arrived at the Fine Arts building, Yin Youning immediately gave him a big hug. “Little Jiayu~”
Using his very slight height advantage, Yin Youning rubbed Shen Jiayu’s head as if he were a kitten, then sat down next to him to chat about the past few days.
Others in the classroom gathered in small groups, casting curious glances their way and whispering. Shen Jiayu noticed, they had likely seen the news about him over the break. He pursed his lips uncomfortably.
Yin Youning blocked those gazes with an annoyed expression and said loudly on purpose, “Some people just love to gossip behind others’ backs.”
Hearing this, the students turned away sheepishly.
Soon, it was time for the ceremony. All the students headed to the auditorium. On the way, Shen Jiayu still felt stranger’s eyes on him.
“I heard he’s the one who entered the marriage alliance with the CEO of the Wen Group.”
“What? Isn’t he a Beta?”
“Who knows? It’s just an alliance, the other guy probably doesn’t even like him.”
Yin Youning glared at the speakers and covered Shen Jiayu’s ears. “Little Jiayu, ignore them.”
Shen Jiayu gave him a faint smile and nodded.
Suddenly, a tall figure crashed into Shen Jiayu from behind. Because the force was so great, Shen Jiayu lost his balance and nearly hit the ground, but fortunately, Yin Youning caught him.
“Hey! Why are you bumping into people!” Yin Youning instantly turned into a “violent little bunny,” waving his fists, though an Omega was naturally at a physiological disadvantage.
The boy who bumped into him kept running but looked back with an apologetic and hurried expression, seemingly in a rush. “Sorry, sorry! I didn’t mean to!”
“Hey! No matter how much of a hurry you’re in, you can’t just go around hitting people!” Yin Youning shouted, but the boy had already disappeared.
Yin Youning huffed and then turned to check on Shen Jiayu. “Little Jiayu, are you okay?”
Shen Jiayu’s face was a bit pale as he clutched his chest. The boy had hit his shoulder, it didn’t hurt much, but the sudden impact from behind had startled him. Fortunately, he recovered after a moment and his color returned, or else Yin Youning would have dragged him to the infirmary.
Inside the auditorium, they took seats near the front. Whispers drifted from behind.
“I have a tip, a huge figure is coming as a guest for the opening ceremony!”
“Who?”
“I heard this big shot graduated from our university. The school invites him every year, but he never has time. I don’t know why he agreed this time!”
Shen Jiayu didn’t pay much attention to the conversation, only catching keywords like “guest” and “big shot.”
Then, someone sat in the empty seat next to him. A blonde Alpha greeted Shen Jiayu and Yin Youning. “Hello, long time no see!”
Shen Jiayu and Yin Youning were surprised and delighted. “Senior Qin Yu, did you come back to the country this semester?”
“Yep!” Qin Yu’s smile was sunny with a hint of mischief. “The exchange program at Duoruo Academy is over.”
Shen Jiayu and Yin Youning both looked envious. Duoruo Academy in Country A was a world renowned art school, being an exchange student there was a dream for every art student. As they chatted, Qin Yu shared his experiences generously.
As the three of them talked, the auditorium filled up. The principal and deans took their places, along with the mysterious guest.
As soon as the guest appeared, a commotion rippled through the hall.
“Crap, is that the CEO of the Wen Group?”
“My god, is the CEO really that handsome?”
“That’s Wen Xiuheng! An S-rank Alpha!”
“I can’t believe the school managed to invite him!”
In the seat to the principal’s right, Wen Xiuheng appeared on stage in a meticulously tailored suit. The suit outlined his tall, perfect physique, emphasizing his broad shoulders and narrow waist.
As he sat down, Wen Xiuheng scanned the student seating. When his face was expressionless, he looked incredibly intimidating. His powerful aura made even the professors sitting near him hesitant to speak.
Very quickly, his gaze locked onto a position in the front row on the right.
When Shen Jiayu noticed the commotion, Qin Yu was showing him and Yin Youning photos he had taken abroad on his phone. Yin Youning was leaning in toward Shen Jiayu to see better, and Qin Yu had leaned in slightly as well, holding the phone in front of Shen Jiayu.
The noise around them finally caught their attention. Shen Jiayu looked around and saw all his classmates staring at the stage.
What’s going on?
Shen Jiayu looked toward the front and froze instantly. Those familiar silver-gray eyes were staring directly at him.
Shen Jiayu blinked slowly. Mr. Wen… why is he here?
Yin Youning tugged at his sleeve. Shen Jiayu turned his head to see Yin Youning looking shocked. He mouthed the words: “Little Jiayu… your husband…”
Shen Jiayu understood him and turned back, his face flushing. He met Wen Xiuheng’s eyes once more.
It felt as though the Alpha’s gaze had never left him at all.
