The Short-Lived Cannon Fodder Is Haunted By A Gloomy Monster [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 5
When Qi Qi woke up, the world outside the window was a murky, overcast gray, devoid of sunlight, making it impossible to tell if it was morning or late afternoon.
Human perception of time is blurred to the greatest extent on such rainy days.
Despite the air conditioning being on, there was an uncomfortable sense of sweltering heat and humidity in the air.
She slowly sat up from the sofa, her brain still groggy and not quite awake. As she lifted her head, she encountered that pair of heterochromatic eyes staring at her from the corner, silent, motionless, almost easy to overlook, yet possessing a powerful presence that was impossible to ignore once noticed.
The frail girl sat silently on the bare floor where there was no carpet, her knees pulled to her chest. She was draped in the school uniform jacket that Qi Qi had previously tossed aside, looking as though she had been held in that posture for a very long time.
Because of the new hairstyle Qi Qi had given her, the face she had tried so hard to hide was now clearly exposed.
Behind the scholarship student was a dark wall covered in exquisite embossed wallpaper, which served only to emphasize the girl’s pale complexion, a pallor lacking the vibrant flush of life. That cyan-green eye seemed to emit a deep, haunting light, looking somber and eerie.
At first glance, one might not even think a human was sitting there, but rather a ghost so pale it was nearly transparent.
Even by doing nothing, simply staying there harmlessly, she was enough to trigger the deepest fears within the human heart, and the extreme negative emotions that stem from such fear…
Yet, Qi Qi did not perceive any of this abnormal danger.
Stepping barefoot onto the carpet, she walked over under the silent gaze of those mismatched eyes and knelt down.
“Are you a mushroom? Why are you crouching in the corner?”
Qi Qi suddenly leaned in close… so close they could almost feel each other’s breath.
“Hmm? Why aren’t you talking? Little mute?”
Her smile was reckless, her eyes filled with an unabashed, mischievous playfulness.
Hearing her words, the girl flicked her eyelids but remained silent, staring back with eyes that were deep but devoid of emotion. To Qi Qi, she even looked strangely well-behaved.
No one noticed the tips of the girl’s ears, hidden behind her thick hair, gradually turning red.
Shen Lu didn’t say it, but she was worried about staining the expensive furniture. Even the carpet on the floor looked so exquisite that she had specifically chosen an empty spot to sit, trying to minimize her own presence.
But these hidden thoughts only swirled in her mind, she would never easily reveal them to anyone else.
She couldn’t understand what Qi Qi was trying to do. Qi Qi had clearly said she wanted to bully her, yet she had specifically rescued her from those people, helped trim her hair, and never showed a hint of disgust when looking at her face.
Perhaps because she had looked this way since childhood and grew up in an orphanage, Shen Lu was extremely sensitive to changes in people’s emotions. But no matter how carefully she searched, she couldn’t find a single trace of loathing or contempt in Qi Qi’s eyes.
So why was she doing this?
Watching the scholarship student’s aura gradually turn gloomy, Qi Qi felt certain that since she had cut off the hair covering the birthmark and had teased her so much, the girl must hate her quite a bit by now.
To be honest, Qi Qi had half-expected to wake up and find the scholarship student using those same scissors to slice open her face.
Though she had no real evidence, for some reason, she felt that such a thing should happen.
Even though the scholarship student appeared to be just an overly quiet, introverted, and ordinary girl, her body so thin from long-term malnutrition that she looked more fragile than girls who dieted constantly, she didn’t look like someone who would commit such a cold-blooded act.
And yet, Qi Qi firmly believed that one day, everyone who had participated in the school bullying would be hunted down and retaliated against by this student.
What was even stranger was Qi Qi herself. Despite having this dangerous premonition, she wasn’t afraid and didn’t stay away, she was actually faintly looking forward to it.
Qi Qi’s fingertips brushed delicately over every inch of the large green birthmark on the girl’s face. It felt smooth, fine, and icy cold, exceptionally comfortable to touch in this muggy weather. However, after she touched it for a while, the student began to struggle and move restlessly, refusing to let her continue.
Qi Qi withdrew her hand thoughtfully. Was she not doing enough? She should be even more of a bully.
At the same time, she needed to give the student some nutrition. She didn’t expect to turn that “blown away by the wind” body into something strong enough to kill a bull with one punch, but at least it should reach a normal standard.
That way, the girl would have the strength to properly take revenge for the bullying Qi Qi and the others had inflicted.
Good is rewarded with good, and evil with evil.
That was how the world was supposed to work.
“Are you hungry?”
Without even looking, Shen Lu knew that annoying hand had moved from her face to her stomach, poking around for some unknown purpose.
Before the student could swat the hand away, Qi Qi lost interest. Regardless of whether she got an answer, Qi Qi stood up and began searching for her phone. She finally found it wedged in the crevices of the sofa and sent a message to someone in her contacts.
“Sitting on the floor makes it look like I’m bullying you. Come over here.”
Qi Qi realized the contradiction as soon as she said it, she was supposed to be bullying her but meals should be eaten at a table. Besides, this was for the sake of making the frail student stronger.
Shen Lu hesitated, her mind filled with shameful thoughts, and she refused to move. Qi Qi simply picked the lingering girl up, walked a few steps to the sofa, and set her down. The student remained in a daze in the exact position she was placed.
Soon, there was a knock at the door.
Qi Qi went to retrieve the delivery. While the school’s chefs couldn’t compare to those at home, the food was passable. To build up the student’s nutrition, she had specifically ordered a lot of meat.
She opened the overly exquisite packaging, and the room was instantly filled with the aroma of food.
Qi Qi sat down next to the still-bewildered student and began to eat, only to realize the person beside her hadn’t even picked up her chopsticks.
She blinked, and a “brilliant” idea suddenly came to her.
“What… what are you doing?” Shen Lu, who was still wondering if there was a trap behind this array of delicacies she usually never saw, suddenly felt her body go airborne. Both sides of her waist were gripped by a pair of hands as Qi Qi easily hoisted her up again.
She didn’t look like she had much muscle, why was she so strong?
Qi Qi looked on with satisfaction as the scholarship student sat sideways on her lap like a kitten. Indeed, this was the right move, she could force-feed her nutrition while simultaneously humiliating her in this manner.
Am I a genius? Qi Qi wondered.
After some modest mental deflection, she ultimately accepted the self-proclaimed title of “Genius.”
Shen Lu finally reacted and began to struggle, but she was easily suppressed. A spoon approached her face, holding a white, bouncy fish ball.
As if afraid she wouldn’t understand, Qi Qi opened her own mouth and made an “Ah” sound, a childish gesture like coaxing a toddler to eat.
Shen Lu’s pale face suddenly turned a deep crimson.
Why on earth is this person doing this?
“…I can… do it myself.”
The dry voice sounded as if it were squeezed from her throat, very quiet, but extremely firm.
Of course, Qi Qi wasn’t going to let this perfect bullying opportunity pass.
“No, you can’t,” she pinched the student’s pointed chin, using a bit of force to compel her to open her mouth. Her eyebrows arched with pure mischief. “Hurry up and eat for me.”
Shen Lu wanted to say something else, but Qi Qi was quick. Seizing the moment the girl opened her mouth, she swiftly slid the spoon inside.
The fresh, sweet, and bouncy flavor of the fish ball exploded on her taste buds. The sheer impact of the delicious food made her temporarily forget she was being fed while sitting on Qi Qi’s lap. As soon as she swallowed the fish ball, a new dish appeared at her lips. It was almost overwhelming.
It’s so delicious.
She obediently ate whatever was fed to her. Her manners were refined but her speed was fast, her cheeks puffing out. Her usually cold, wooden expression became lively and soft while eating, and her eyes seemed to sparkle. She was the type of person who would make anyone watching her gain an appetite.
So well-behaved.
It felt like feeding cabbage leaves to a little rabbit.
Qi Qi began to feel nostalgic for the soft white rabbit she had as a child. With her other hand, she subconsciously followed the old memory of petting a rabbit, stroking the student’s thin, frail back. Under her touch, the body trembled slightly as if startled, but under the continuous feeding and soothing, it slowly calmed down.
So thin. So bony.
Once the eating speed slowed down, Qi Qi took advantage of the student’s lowered guard to pat her stomach as if measuring something.
Good, it’s rounded out now.
“Alright, you must be full.”
Eating too much isn’t good for the health, either.
Satisfied, she squeezed the student’s chin, ignoring the dissatisfaction and anger in those heterochromatic eyes. She took a tissue and wiped away the sauce that had accidentally smeared on the girl’s lips from eating too fast.
Out of a sense of pure affection for her “work of art,” and following her old habit of feeding her rabbit, Qi Qi gave the obediently eating student a reward, a light kiss on her soft cheek.
Only after the instinctive action was done did she lock eyes with those suddenly wide, misty, mismatched eyes and realize she had just done something quite extraordinary.
