- Chapter 12 - Just Like a Little Heater
Song Shidu turned his head, a fire smoldering deep within his dark, lupine eyes. His voice was hoarse as he said, “Once.”
“No.”
“Twice.”
“Song Shidu! You are going too far!”
“Three times.”
On this night, there was no room for bargaining. The newly acquired car was, quite literally, soiled.
The Next Morning
Jiang Ningxun had a fever of 38°C. He lay weakly on the bed with a cooling patch stuck to his forehead, sipping water through a straw. He gripped Song Shidu’s arm and accused, “It is all your fault.”
“It is all my fault,” Song Shidu replied.
Last night was truly difficult to recall. Jiang Ningxun had fainted and woken repeatedly until his skin became hot enough to boil an egg.
It was already past noon. Song Shidu had called in sick for Jiang Ningxun, and he had not gone to work himself, unexpectedly choosing to stay home instead.
Jiang Ningxun looked at him groggily. “You should go. I am fine; a little fever will not kill me.”
“You kept saying your stomach hurt last night.” Song Shidu placed his hand on the other man’s lower abdomen. Seeing the pale face of the person on the bed, his brow furrowed deeply. He said, “Once you are better, I am taking you to the hospital for a check-up.”
Jiang Ningxun buried his head under the covers, his voice muffled. “It should be fine. Maybe I just ate something bad, or perhaps I caught a chill. It is not as if I suddenly grew a new organ. Check-ups are so expensive.”
In truth, he was quite afraid of being diagnosed with something like cancer. The moment the thought crossed his mind, his resistance to the hospital flared up again.
Song Shidu did not leave. Jiang Ningxun pulled back the covers and suddenly flopped onto Song Shidu’s lap to sleep. Taking the hint, Song Shidu rubbed his ears, soothing him as he gradually drifted into dreamland.
This little fox’s body temperature was so hot; he was just like a little heater.
Song Shidu leaned down and kissed one of the fox ears. The ear twitched. He kissed it again, and it flicked away due to sensitivity. Finally, Jiang Ningxun reached out in protest to cover Song Shidu’s mouth, muttering unclearly, “If you keep bothering my sleep, I will find a pair of scissors and clip all your wolf fur when I wake up.”
Song Shidu instantly stopped messing around.
After ten minutes, once Jiang Ningxun was sound asleep, Song Shidu’s stiff back finally relaxed. He gently moved onto the bed, shifting the steaming little fox to sleep against his chest and abdomen.
Even though Song Shidu had not gone to work, he was still using his tablet to handle business. He turned the brightness down to the lowest setting. It was a bit straining for the eyes, but to avoid disturbing Jiang Ningxun, this was the only way he could work.
After some time, Song Shidu received a notification from a group chat titled [A Happy Family].
Dad: “Hey brat, are you coming back for New Year’s?”
Dad: “Do not be in a rush to come back yet. That way, when your mom starts worrying about you, she will give me money to go to A-City to pick you up! Understand? If the enemy does not move, we do not move. Once your mom hands over the cash, I will give you a hundred bucks!”
Song Shidu was silent for a moment. He did not even reply. Sure enough, his muddled father realized he had sent the message to the wrong place and immediately tried to mend the situation by retracting all the messages.
His mother should be sleeping right now. Song Shidu mentioned her in the group, sent a screenshot of the previous messages, and typed: “Mom, go check behind the clock for money. If it is not there, he moved it to the sofa cushions.”
Dad: “I @※&#”
Finally, his father sent him a private message: “You just think your cut is too small, do you not? Retract it quickly! You cannot let your mother see!”
Song Shidu: “I just feel like deceiving Mom is not very nice.”
His father had long since seen through his son’s true colors: “Are you still pretending to be a good boy? You little black sesame dumpling, I will give you 300!”
Song Shidu: “As a husband, you should be considerate of your wife and not exchange deception for money.”
Dad: “400!”
Song Shidu: “I have things to do; I cannot talk.”
Dad: “Fine, 700! Your old man is already losing money here!”
Song Shidu sent an OK hand gesture: “Alright.”
A second later, Song Shidu replied: “Two minutes have passed. You can no longer retract the messages.”
On the other side of the phone, although his father was not physically there, one could tell from the silence that he truly wanted to fly over and beat his unfilial son.
A smile appeared on Song Shidu’s face, but it vanished an instant later because he had not told his parents yet that he was together with Jiang Ningxun. One did not need to think to know they would not agree, especially since Song Shidu was an only child.
Just then, his waist was wrapped by a soft fox tail. Jiang Ningxun rubbed his cheek against the back of Song Shidu’s hand, sleeping fitfully due to his illness. His face was flushed, his fair skin burning a fiery red. The corners of his eyes looked as if they had been touched with rouge. Even with his eyes closed, he was exceptionally alluring.
Song Shidu closed his laptop and set it aside. He pulled Jiang Ningxun halfway onto his chest, cursed himself under his breath with guilt, and then tenderly patted his back as he joined him in sleep.
On the Sports Field.
Both were in their youth, their understanding of feelings still hazy. Song Shidu wore an immaculate white shirt with the collar slightly open to reveal the sharp lines of his collarbone, radiating a crisp and charming allure. As the sunlight poured over him, the white shirt seemed gilded with a soft halo, making his tall figure look even more perfect.
He sat quietly on the field. As per usual, no one came to accompany him, making him look quite lonely.
Suddenly, his shoulder was struck hard by a tail. “Hey, I saw you from upstairs.”
Jiang Ningxun was wearing a warm-toned fox hoodie with a bow tied to his tail that drew everyone’s gaze as it swayed. Two small triangular cotton hats were perched on his furry ears. The entire outfit was very fashionable; he was a literal fashion fox.
The moment he appeared, he attracted a lot of attention. His fox-like features were stunning, and he did not have the unapproachable aura that Song Shidu carried. Immediately, many people stepped forward to ask for his WeChat.
Jiang Ningxun waved them off. “I did not bring my phone, so I will not add anyone.”
“Then, junior, I will leave my WeChat ID for you. Add me when you get back! If you have questions about your coursework later, come find me!”
“Get lost! You are a Civil Engineering major; does that have anything to do with his major?”
“Hey! By that logic, does your Accounting major have anything to do with it?”
Song Shidu was displeased. The moment he stood up, he was a head taller than everyone else, his presence forcibly snuffing out the competitive energy of the others. He grabbed Jiang Ningxun’s wrist and walked away, saying as they went, “You truly have no sense of discernment.”
The crowd was speechless. They thought, just because you are a top student does not mean you can insult us!
They arrived under a large tree where no one else was around. Song Shidu asked, knowing the answer, “Why did you come looking for me?”
Jiang Ningxun stared at him in shock. “To keep you company, obviously! Did you forget the last time you had a fever and I braved the heavy rain to bring you medicine?”
“Yes, I remember.”
Seeing how cold he was being, Jiang Ningxun flicked his tail. “Then I am leaving.”
“Do not go.” Song Shidu glanced away, his voice awkward. “I was joking. I am quite happy you came to find me.”
Jiang Ningxun smiled brightly again. “Then look at the gift I brought you.”
“What is it?” Song Shidu’s eyes lit up at the word “gift.”
Jiang Ningxun pulled out a bow, a bell, and a series of other cute items. He grinned. “Ta-da! I specifically learned how to make these from another rabbit Omega. I custom-made them to fit your tail size. Hurry, try them on!”
Looking at these pink decorations, Song Shidu felt they were not masculine at all. From every strand of wolf fur to the hair on his head, every part of Song Shidu’s body was resisting.
“I am not wearing those.”
The scene shifted. Jiang Ningxun was holding up his phone, taking a photo of himself and Song Shidu. In the frame, Song Shidu’s expression was stiff as he forced a smile. A large bell hung around his neck, a single bow was clipped to one of his wolf ears, and while he tried to hide his wolf tail behind his back, Jiang Ningxun was holding it in his arms, smiling as he displayed the oversized bow on the tail.
Click!
It was a series of eighteen shots. Song Shidu had completely lost his dignity as a powerful Alpha. He thought, whatever, let him take them.
The next second, Jiang Ningxun sent them to a WeChat account. “I sent them to your mom. She said you are so cute and told me to try a few more dresses on you for her to see.”
Song Shidu’s expression shattered.
