- Chapter 7 - Endorsement 3 – Brother, You’re Finally Here
The moment the male star uttered those words, the already subtle atmosphere in the lobby shifted instantly. Many people began to cast their gazes over discreetly.
Song Mingjiao suddenly felt a surge of energy; his inner actor was ready for a performance.
He stood there like a pitiful little lamb helpless, isolated, and at a complete loss. Before him stood the towering male star, who was pointing a finger at Song Mingjiao’s nose, fuming with rage.
“Stop acting! I despise people like you, always playing the victim just to win sympathy!”
The contrast between their statures was stark. Song Mingjiao was wearing only a thin jacket, looking fragile and small, his shoulders even trembling slightly.
However, since Song Mingjiao kept his head lowered, no one could see the expression on his face. Most assumed he was simply too embarrassed to show his aggrieved, tear-filled eyes in front of the crowd.
“I… I didn’t. You’re framing me.”
Song Mingjiao’s voice was beautiful, flowing into the ears like the clearest spring water. But at this moment, the end of his sentence trembled. Even so, his upbringing remained evident; even his rebuttal was soft and gentle.
Zhang Xuanzhan noticed the situation immediately. He had a massive headache. Staying on the sidelines felt wrong, yet stepping in to stop it seemed inappropriate.
The reason was simple: his boss Young Master Song was clearly addicted to the act. He was currently immersed in his own “art” and couldn’t pull himself out.
Meanwhile, the other artists in the lobby, seeing that Secretary Zhang had no intention of intervening, began to display a variety of expressions.
Some remained indifferent, casting only a glance or two before refocusing on the upcoming brand spokesperson selection, unwilling to waste their energy. Others watched the drama unfold with amusement. They were all prominent celebrities; being scrutinized by Chenxing Group only to potentially be rejected was embarrassing enough. Seeing someone else make a fool of themselves in public was a welcome distraction.
“Hey, you ”
Ultimately, Song Mingjiao’s performance was so pitiful that it stirred someone’s protective instincts. The rising starlet who had previously tried to get close to Zhang Xuanzhan couldn’t bear it any longer and tried to step forward.
The starlet’s name was Shang Xiaoxia. Before she could finish her sentence, her manager pulled her back.
The manager, looking at Shang Xiaoxia with frustration, pulled her behind her back. She then offered a forced smile to the troublemaking male star before whispering:
“Don’t stick your neck out. The person backing Bao Yuanjie isn’t someone to mess with. Didn’t you notice everyone else is just watching?”
Bao Yuanjie the blind male star in question became even more arrogant upon seeing this.
Having failed to become the spokesperson for Chenxing Group, he was looking for a place to vent his anger. Having struggled in the entertainment industry for years, he knew how cold-blooded these large corporations could be. As long as no major incident occurred, they would turn a blind eye. Why else would Secretary Zhang remain silent?
What Bao Yuanjie didn’t know was that as Zhang Xuanzhan watched the farce unfold, he was starting to wonder if this wasn’t just Song Mingjiao coming out for air, but rather a trap he had intentionally set as a test.
Zhang Xuanzhan shook his head inwardly. These people likely wouldn’t even catch Young Master Song’s eye now.
Darn it, Mo Qinan isn’t here! Is that kid Mo Qinan really going to luck out?
“I… I was just passing by. I had no intention of competing with you for the endorsement.”
Song Mingjiao remained in place. He was enjoying the act immensely. It had been a long time since he had experienced such blunt, low-level human malice.
Well, it wasn’t much different from teasing a dog, really they were both equally stupid.
But as the man’s hand reached closer and closer, nearly touching his chin, Song Mingjiao felt a flicker of annoyance. He felt the man was “dirty.”
However, the word “endorsement” precisely struck Bao Yuanjie’s sore spot. He instantly flew into a humiliated rage and reached out, attempting to grab Song Mingjiao’s collar.
“Just passing by a private club? Bullshit! Who is your manager? Did they lack the credentials to get in, so you’re trying to use this method to get Chenxing Group’s attention?”
Song Mingjiao had played enough. The frailty in his eyes began to fade, replaced by a cold indifference. Just as he was about to swat away the man’s intrusive hand, someone grabbed his arm and pulled him behind their back.
The newcomer’s movements appeared rough, yet the force was extremely controlled. Song Mingjiao felt no pain a sharp contrast to Mo Qinan’s actions the last time.
In the next heartbeat, he was enveloped by a tall shadow.
Who is this?
Song Mingjiao looked up. It was a man he didn’t recognize.
He was just so tall. He hated men who were taller than him!
As He Wang shielded Song Mingjiao, he also unceremoniously pushed Bao Yuanjie away.
“Don’t go too far.”
Bao Yuanjie stumbled back a few steps. He hadn’t expected anyone to interfere and cursed without thinking: “Which blind idiot dares to interfere? Do you know who my father is?”
Once he saw He Wang’s face, Bao Yuanjie’s expression twisted for a moment.
There is always someone more powerful. Bao Yuanjie realized he had to swallow his pride, but he remained bitter. He spoke with a sarcastic tone:
“Teacher He certainly knows how to cherish the fair sex. Just be careful that the ‘flower’ already has a master, lest your efforts go to waste.”
Before He Wang could respond, Song Mingjiao poked his head out from behind the man’s shoulder and asked with genuine, humble curiosity: “What does ‘the flower already has a master’ mean?”
This movement brought Song Mingjiao very close to He Wang. As he tilted his head, his hair brushed lightly against He Wang’s neck, carrying a faint, delicate fragrance.
Song Mingjiao didn’t notice that He Wang’s body stiffened instantly.
“Stop acting innocent! You think you’re safe just because He Wang is protecting you? You trespassed here; you still have to answer to the host!”
Bao Yuanjie was infuriated by Song Mingjiao’s innocent eyes. He stubbornly tried to involve Chenxing Group, forgetting that he hadn’t cared about whose territory this was when he was bullying Song Mingjiao a moment ago.
Zhang Xuanzhan cleared his throat and said, “Since the door wasn’t locked, entering isn’t considered a violation of the rules.”
Seeing that Secretary Zhang wasn’t taking his side and wasn’t even angry about a stranger wandering in Bao Yuanjie felt publicly humiliated. His face turned shades of red and blue.
“Fine, fine, fine! In just a few minutes, you’ve managed to bewitch so many people. The entertainment industry has truly suffered a loss with you in it!”
Hearing this, Song Mingjiao’s eyes darted around. He stopped pretending to be a weak lamb and adjusted his angle to ensure that Bao Yuanjie could see him while He Wang could not.
Then, Song Mingjiao wrinkled his nose, stuck out his tongue, pulled down his mask, and made a mocking face at Bao Yuanjie. To top it off, he mouthed a single word:
“Idiot.”
Bao Yuanjie realized then and there that he had been played! He was the one who ended up looking like a fool in public.
“You—!”
Losing his mind, Bao Yuanjie tried to rush forward. But Song Mingjiao anticipated the move perfectly. He hunched his shoulders and tightly gripped He Wang’s sleeve, looking terrified.
Zhang Xuanzhan, who had been about to step in to protect Song Mingjiao, saw this and could only pull his hand back as if nothing had happened.
He Wang had never been this close to anyone in his life, not even while filming. That soft, warm body was pressed tightly against him.
The person seemed to trust him so much, as if He Wang was his entire world the one who must bear the responsibility of protecting him.
He Wang’s ability to think rationally vanished. He cast aside his years of low-profile behavior and his habit of considering consequences.
Without a second thought, he wrapped an arm around Song Mingjiao’s waist and ruthlessly kicked Bao Yuanjie to the ground. He turned to Zhang Xuanzhan and said:
“Secretary Zhang, I believe someone like Bao Yuanjie is purely disrupting the order of this endorsement collaboration.”
Zhang Xuanzhan replied with a smile, though his tone carried a hint of gritted teeth:
“Teacher He is right. Security, drag this man out. Furthermore, no brand under Chenxing Group will ever consider Bao Yuanjie again.”
Everyone present was stunned, including He Wang. For an artist to be publicly blacklisted by a top-tier luxury group was virtually the same as being banned from the industry.
Bao Yuanjie panicked. He had come to elevate his status, but not only did he fail to get the endorsement, he had effectively destroyed his own career.
Before he could say another word, he was led away by well-trained security guards.
As for the source of the trouble Song Mingjiao he was still buried in He Wang’s chest, seemingly still shaken.
Song Mingjiao didn’t really care about Zhang Xuanzhan’s disposal of the matter. A minor character like Bao Yuanjie, along with his unremarkable company, meant nothing to Chenxing Group.
He just felt that this outing had been quite productive.
For instance, this man… uh, what was his name again?
Oh well, it wasn’t important. Anyway, his chest was quite warm. Song Mingjiao snuggled twice comfortably, his shallow breath falling against the man’s chest.
He Wang’s fleeting moment of regained logic flew away once more.
He hadn’t come to participate in the “Tianqiong Jishi” watch endorsement for the sake of the brand. He had told his manager to monitor Mo Qinan’s schedule, and when he found out the man was coming here, he followed.
Of course, He Wang wasn’t here for Mo Qinan. He simply wanted to see Song Mingjiao.
Ever since that brief encounter in the dressing room where he saw Song Mingjiao heartbroken by Mo Qinan, slumped fragrantly against the mirror, talking to himself in a daze the image had been etched into He Wang’s mind.
Song Mingjiao’s teary eyes and his pained, breathless appearance haunted He Wang’s dreams.
Sometimes he dreamt from a voyeuristic perspective, watching Song Mingjiao and Mo Qinan. Other times, it was just him. He would push open those doors, take Song Mingjiao into his arms, and the man would rest his warm cheek against his chest, whispering piteously, “Brother, you’re finally here.”
His manager scolded him every day, saying he was like an old house on fire completely beyond help.
He Wang felt the same way. Otherwise, why would he knowing Song Mingjiao had a boyfriend, that damn Mo Qinan still find himself unable to push him away?
Today, the longing from his dreams had finally become a reality. He Wang cautiously reached out, wanting to touch Song Mingjiao’s snowy-white nape, but he restrained himself.
Then, he saw Song Mingjiao finally lift his head from his chest, tilting his neck to look at him.
Would it be a word of thanks?
He Wang held his breath, finally hearing Song Mingjiao’s voice.
“Who are you?”
