The Security Guard Who Won the Heart of the Unattainable Actress - Chapter 32.2
Chapter 32.2
In the backyard, Hua Yuzhi was sitting alone on the swing in the small pavilion, but she wasn’t swinging. It was unknown what she was thinking. There were no cameras nearby.
“Teacher Hua,” Li Guang saw that Hua Yuzhi was in a bad mood, but she was never good at comforting people. “Teacher Hua, they’re preparing to arrange tomorrow’s recreational activities. Could you go over?”
Hua Yuzhi looked up and saw it was Li Guang. The words she was about to say, “Don’t bother me,” got stuck in her throat. She just couldn’t say anything harsh to Li Guang’s gentle-looking face.
“It’s fine if they choose,” Hua Yuzhi said, looking down at the ground.
“Are you in a bad mood?” Li Guang leaned in. She shook her raincoat and tentatively asked, “Is it because you didn’t get to eat spicy snail noodles? I have a lot of them. I can get them for you later if you want.”
Hua Yuzhi looked up and couldn’t help but laugh. “It’s not about that.”
Seeing that there were no cameras around, Li Guang said, “Teacher Wen seems to have a cold.”
She saw Hua Yuzhi’s expression change immediately, and her smile stopped. Li Guang then asked, “Hua Yuzhi, why did you go to Teacher Wen’s room this afternoon?”
Li Guang’s tone was fair and just, without any hint of innuendo.
Hua Yuzhi let out a laugh. Her mood had improved quite a bit. She thought about Li Guang’s tone and said, “Haven’t you ever been in a relationship?”
What did this have to do with being in a relationship? Li Guang didn’t understand. She shook her head.
“I haven’t.”
“Then it’s no wonder you don’t understand,” Hua Yuzhi got up. Her jacket was open, and the sweater underneath was noticeably looser. Hua Yuzhi zipped up her jacket tightly, not revealing any of the sweater underneath.
Li Guang felt that she had heard something similar before when she was talking to Ran Mingyue. She asked curiously, “What do you understand when you’re in a relationship?”
“Let’s go back,” Hua Yuzhi said. “A relationship… well, I really don’t know how to explain it to you. Don’t you have a person you want to care for and look at all the time, a person you want to be by their side?”
Li Guang thought about it carefully. “I do. But I don’t think that’s love.”
Hua Yuzhi looked at Li Guang with a confused expression and wanted to say more, but she felt that given her situation, how could she be in a position to give Li Guang relationship advice? She sighed wistfully, “Sigh, love is so hard.”
Li Guang also sighed, repeating, “Sigh, love is so hard.”
As they were about to enter the living room, Hua Yuzhi turned her head. “Who is it? That person?”
She was very curious. How lucky would a person be to be cared for and watched by someone like Li Guang? That person must also be very outstanding.
Li Guang’s gaze happened to turn to the living room. Everyone was chatting. Ran Mingyue was sitting alone on the single sofa. Although she wasn’t saying much, it was clear that she was listening intently.
The side view of her nose was high and straight, and she stood out even among the other celebrities.
Li Guang’s gaze quickly returned. She said nonchalantly, “No one. Hurry up and go inside. Director Wang is rushing us.”
She avoided the topic, and at the same time, she avoided the cameras and went back with Hua Yuzhi. The moment the door opened, Ran Mingyue’s eyes quickly followed.
Li Guang gave her an “okay” sign, and Ran Mingyue nodded. No one noticed the small interaction between them.
Hua Yuzhi went inside, and Wen Yingzhi automatically moved over to make room for her.
The living room was very large. In the middle was a four-seater sofa, on the right was a three-seater sofa, and on the left were two single sofas. The floor was covered with carpets and cushions. It was comfortable enough to sit anywhere.
At this moment, only Wen Yingzhi and Song Suoqi were sitting on the four-seater sofa. There was plenty of room. But Hua Yuzhi didn’t go over. Instead, she sat on the other single sofa next to Ran Mingyue.
Wen Yingzhi: “…”
My rival. What a rival.
Wen Yingzhi didn’t say anything, and Jiang Qiaoye was about to speak. Wen Yingzhi suddenly let out a loud sneeze. She pulled out a tissue to cover her nose and said hoarsely, “Who’s badmouthing me?”
Right after she said that, she sneezed again.
“Sorry, it might be a little cold,” Wen Yingzhi said. “I wore one less layer. I’m going up to add one.”
Hua Yuzhi’s fingers were pressing on the zipper of her jacket. Her face was blank, and she didn’t move.
The others had clearly noticed the tension between Hua Yuzhi and Wen Yingzhi. One came, and the other left. To ease the atmosphere, Jiang Qiaoye took out the board and showed it. “It’s fine, it’s fine. Let’s take a look at these and see if there are any you’re interested in.”
Li Guang’s gaze followed. She noticed that Jiang Qiaoye’s gaze went directly to the extreme and thrilling missions like bungee jumping and drop towers. Back at the big window, Jiang Qiaoye had dared to jump down backward. It was clear that he wasn’t afraid at all.
Some people would consider their teammates, but some wouldn’t. Li Guang looked at the gazes of all the guests and thought about the things the fans said during Jiang Qiaoye’s live stream today. She came up with an idea.
Li Guang quietly moved to the side. When she got to the second floor, she happened to bump into Wen Yingzhi.
“Why did you come up here?”
Li Guang said, “Teacher Wen, I have something to discuss with you. It will only take two minutes of your time.”
“What is it? Did something happen? You’re being so formal,” Wen Yingzhi hadn’t taken off her microphone yet. She covered it with her hand. Li Guang said, “There’s an activity. Can everyone participate in it tomorrow?”
She lowered her voice and said what she was thinking. Wen Yingzhi’s expression changed from confusion to intrigue. She then raised her eyebrows and looked at Li Guang, unable to resist asking, “Are you a fan of Mingyue? You’re so good to her.”
The idea that Li Guang had was beyond Wen Yingzhi’s expectations.
Li Guang shook her head and said, “I just don’t want Sister Mingyue to be misunderstood like this. I’m a justice fighter.”
Wen Yingzhi dragged out the last syllable and “Oh”-ed. She carefully studied Li Guang’s expression. “You’re not a fan. Then are you in love with her?”
“!” This was the second time today Li Guang had heard a question about love. She quickly denied it, “No, how could that be? How could a security guard fall in love with her client?”
Wen Yingzhi said, “I’ve seen many people who fall in love with Mingyue after being around her. You’re the first one I’ve seen who isn’t… But your suggestion is good. I’ll go take care of it now.”
“Thank you, Teacher Wen.”
Li Guang’s goal was achieved, and she happily returned to the first floor to be a spectator.
Wen Yingzhi came back as before. Ran Mingyue looked at her, “Aren’t you still wearing the same clothes as before?”
Wen Yingzhi: “I didn’t wear a sweater before. Now I’m wearing the sweater I didn’t wear.”
“Aren’t we supposed to choose an activity? Let’s choose now,” Hua Yuzhi said. “I think we don’t have to play those drop tower games or whatever. They’re too thrilling. We’ve already played something high enough today.”
Jiang Qiaoye said, “Not going to play? But I think this one is quite interesting. I haven’t tried an indoor high-altitude thrilling activity. I really want to try it.”
Sure enough, Jiang Qiaoye was the representative of the thrill-seekers. He couldn’t go on without some excitement. Ran Mingyue’s expression didn’t change, but Li Guang was cracking her knuckles and had already internally complained about Jiang Qiaoye a thousand times.
It wasn’t that she couldn’t play, but at this moment, it was best not to. Jiang Qiaoye was so senseless. If he liked thrills so much, Li Guang could just pick him up and spin him around a hundred times like a stick.
“I’m fine with anything,” Xiang Que said.
Song Suoqi: “I don’t want to play anything thrilling. I was scared to death just watching today…”
“I have a suggestion. If the opinions are half and half, let’s choose something with a high safety factor that’s also a bit thrilling, like this one.” Wen Yingzhi pointed to the words “indoor high-altitude wire-work.” “What do you think?”
Among the guests on the show, Jiang Qiaoye, Song Suoqi, and Wen Yingzhi had never done wire-work before. Hua Yuzhi had filmed some, but it was just simple flying.
Xiang Que: Silence.
Ran Mingyue probably didn’t expect Wen Yingzhi to choose this. She was about to speak, but Wen Yingzhi stopped her with a look.
“This is very fun. You should try it,” Wen Yingzhi said. “Don’t your fans say you’re a variety show person? You can try wire-work. If it goes well, you can even take on a costume drama later.”
“Really? Hey, what you’re saying makes a lot of sense. It sounds pretty interesting.” Jiang Qiaoye asked, “What about everyone else? Do you have any objections?”
The others naturally had no objections. Those who had never done wire-work were all very curious about it.
Li Guang said “Yes” in her heart. She had succeeded.
“After this activity is chosen, the show will announce the corresponding games when you get to the venue tomorrow. Go to bed if you’ve chosen. Everyone, get some rest,” Wang Rou came and said. “You still have to get up early tomorrow. Have a good night’s sleep, everyone. Today’s filming is over!”
The end of filming meant that Li Guang was also off work.
She didn’t receive any other instructions on her headset, which meant there were no hidden missions tonight, and there would be no cameras in their private spaces.
She breathed a sigh of relief and slipped away with her colleagues.
Being lazy after work! Something is wrong with that thought process!
Li Guang was already very tired after a whole day, and she had good physical strength. She believed the guests were even more tired.
Thankfully, the show was quite conscientious and let everyone off work at exactly 9:30 PM. Li Guang quickly walked out of the villa, ready to go back and fall asleep.
In her mind, the thought of whether to say something to Ran Mingyue came and went, quickly replaced by another thought:
The guests are also tired. They’re all staying in the villa tonight, so they’ll definitely go up and rest.
The rain had stopped. As Li Guang stepped into the dorm, she received a weather notification on her phone saying that there would be a thunderstorm tonight.
“It’s so cold, but that’s good,” Li Guang mumbled, rubbing her cold cheeks.
Ji Yuan: [Transferred 5,000.00 yuan to you]
Ji Yuan: [The sponsor said it was great! The money came quickly! I’m guessing they’ll start promoting the photos in two days.]
Li Guang happily accepted the money and thanked him. With the money in hand, she didn’t feel cold at all.
Warm winter! Warm winter! So warm.
Li Guang took a hot shower and got into bed, a hot water bottle clutched in her arms. There was no heating in the staff dorms, but her colleagues took care of her and gave her a single electric blanket.
She wasn’t picky and thought it was pretty good. The only thing was that it was a bit cold when she got up to get dressed.
The warmth in the blanket made Li Guang sleepy very quickly. She took one last look at her bank account balance, counted it again and again, and happily kicked her legs in the covers twice.
The phone rang. Li Guang answered happily, “Hello?”
“Guang, you sound so happy. It’s cold now. Is your place warm?” Ms. Ye Cai-lan’s voice came through. Li Guang said, “It’s warm, not cold at all.”
She forgot about the one-sided unhappiness caused by their last meeting. Ye Cai-lan then said, “I knitted two pairs of cashmere socks. You wear them every winter. I’ll bring them to you in a couple of days.”
Thinking of something, Ye Cai-lan said again, “It’s fine if you’re busy. I’ll just leave them at the security office and leave. I’ll be coming to get Yangyang’s report then, so it won’t take up your time.”
Li Guang was embarrassed, “Mom, you make it sound like I’m so busy…”
“You are a busy person. Mommy saw you on the show. You were so good at protecting those guests.”
Li Guang said, “Really? You recognized me?”
“How could I not recognize my own daughter?” Ye Cai-lan said with a laugh. Li Guang felt comfortable hearing that. She laughed for a long time on the other end of the phone. How did it sound like her mother was proud of her accomplishments now?
Li Guang was so happy she didn’t know what to say. Ye Cai-lan asked, “You must have a good relationship with those guests, right? Are you close to them?”
Li Guang said, “It’s okay. They’re all very good teachers.”
“That’s good. Can you help Mommy get a few autographs?” Ye Cai-lan said. “Yangyang says he likes Ran Mingyue and Song Suoqi. He only wants their autographs, and also Teacher Xiang Que’s. He wants all of them. Get a few more. Yangyang is being difficult. He always says he likes these celebrities. Isn’t that strange?”
Li Guang’s tone became a little flatter, “I can, but there are no extra ones. I can only get one.”
“Oh, come on. You’re a staff member. You must have a good relationship with them. Get a few more. Yangyang can give them to his classmates later. Everyone is looking forward to it! He says his sister knows celebrities, but the other kids don’t believe him. We can’t let him lose face.”
Li Guang poked the hot water bottle, making a dent that quickly bounced back. She really wished her heart could heal as quickly as this hot water bottle.
Li Guang said, “Then will you let Yangyang tell them that his sister is a security guard?”
Ye Cai-lan: “Why would he say that?”
Li Guang said, “Should we hang up? I have to work tomorrow. I can’t get any extra signed photos. I only have one of Teacher Ran Mingyue, and I’m keeping it for myself.”
“One? Of Teacher Ran Mingyue? You’re the older sister. Can… can you let Yangyang play with it first?” Ye Cai-lan was trying to negotiate with her. Li Guang immediately said, “No. I like this. I’m not giving it to him. Yangyang shouldn’t be bragging in kindergarten.”
“Why are you arguing with a child?” Ye Cai-lan was also annoyed. “Didn’t I always talk to you nicely and try to negotiate? Why are you blaming me again?”
Li Guang clutched the corner of her blanket and didn’t make a sound. Why did she feel cold even though she had pulled the covers up tightly? Ye Cai-lan didn’t hear her and said, “Guangguang, how is it that you’ve become so unlike your childhood self since three years ago?”
Li Guang’s face was tense, and her lips were pursed. She didn’t say a word.
“Li Guang? Are you asleep? Hello?”
Li Guang still didn’t say anything, but Ye Cai-lan didn’t hang up either. She waited for two more seconds, then suddenly said, “Why did you say that I’m not like my childhood self?”
She turned over in her blanket. This side might not have been covered by the electric blanket, and she didn’t feel any warmth. It was cold.
“Isn’t that true? I’m just calling to talk to you about a small matter. What does this have to do with Yangyang bragging?” Ye Cai-lan sighed and said, “It was like this last time we had dinner too. Li Guang, what’s wrong? Why are you throwing a tantrum these days?”
Li Guang didn’t speak, but she pressed her phone tightly to her ear. She only heard a long and confused sigh from the other end. The call was hung up.
Li Guang turned on Do Not Disturb on her phone and placed it sulkily on the pillow.
She turned off the lights, closed her eyes, and prepared to sleep.
When she’s unhappy, she sleeps well. Everything is new after waking up. This was Li Guang’s code of conduct.
But Li Guang tossed and turned several times and finally opened her eyes. She didn’t know how much time had passed. It was pitch black outside.
She couldn’t sleep, so Li Guang decided to go for a walk. She put on her thick jacket and put her phone in her pocket.
Li Guang didn’t wear her raincoat. She took the umbrella that had always been by the shoe rack in the dorm. It was Ran Mingyue’s umbrella.
She walked alone in the night. It was almost midnight, and the streetlights in the villa area were very soft. Li Guang unconsciously walked along her usual patrol route. The residents’ houses were dark; they were all asleep.
Li Guang held her back straight, even though she knew she was the only one on the road. She held the umbrella in one hand and pressed the other tightly against her cheek. She walked a few steps, but at a fork in the road, she turned towards Building 1.
When she saw the sign that said “Building 1, this way,” raindrops fell on her face. Li Guang wiped them away and started running without a care. She was running so fast that she started coughing.
When she saw the only courtyard with warm light in the darkness, Li Guang was stunned at the entrance.
Ran Mingyue’s house had a light on.
What time was it? Why wasn’t she resting at the main base?
Li Guang had felt like she didn’t want to cry, but tears fell uncontrollably. She couldn’t even wipe them away. She felt so defeated. She tried to hold it in, but she coughed, and the coughing got louder. It made her bend over.
Li Guang could no longer see what was under her feet. She couldn’t stand up straight. That subtle self-esteem bent down with her body. She wanted to turn around and leave, but she couldn’t move, so she just squatted down, clutching the umbrella.
Before she could wipe her tears, the villa’s door opened.
The sky suddenly flashed with a blinding white light. A thunderclap followed, tearing through the silence of the rainy night.
In Li Guang’s vision, Ran Mingyue’s indoor slippers appeared. The person who came out must have been in a hurry.
She was then held up. Li Guang’s vision was blurry with tears. She couldn’t see people or things. The umbrella had long since tilted. A hand took the umbrella from her, and then her whole body was pulled into an embrace.
Ran Mingyue didn’t say anything. She silently led Li Guang into the house. Her shoulders and hair were already soaked with rain. The edge of the umbrella was tilted to the other side the whole time. Li Guang began to sob uncontrollably.
Ran Mingyue pursed her lips, looking very serious. She endured and brought the person into the warm house. Her first action was to hold her in her arms, her palm supporting the back of Li Guang’s head.
“It’s okay,” Ran Mingyue said in a low voice, without asking why. “You’re home.”
