The Security Guard Who Won the Heart of the Unattainable Actress - Chapter 27.2
Chapter 27.2
“Not needed?” Ran Mingyue, who had been observing the situation, turned her head. “Why isn’t it needed?”
Li Guang’s smile was sincere. “Because having you is enough. It’s more than enough.”
Ran Mingyue: “…You’re making me a little shy.”
She took the water gun from Xiang Que but hadn’t reached Jiang Qiaoye yet. When Jiang Qiaoye saw that three people had arrived, he took off running.
He was running in circles and hadn’t left this part of the forest.
“Why aren’t the pineapple people attacking you guys!” Jiang Qiaoye noticed something was off. “They’re following you to chase me? This is ridiculous! Don’t the pineapple people have no allegiance?”
Ran Mingyue gestured for Li Guang to run with her and to stay silent. Li Guang: Understood.
Xiang Que and Hua Yuzhi went to the forest exit to flank them.
Li Guang looked around nervously. She looked up and saw someone.
The person on the tree branch had just taken off their headgear, revealing their eyes, and Li Guang saw them.
Li Guang: “…”
Li Guang was about to tell Ran Mingyue, but Wen Yingzhi made a threatening “be quiet” gesture at her.
Ran Mingyue took down a few pineapple people in front of her. Once she understood the pattern, it was easy to clear out the NPCs.
Jiang Qiaoye was also killing pineapple people as he went. Even though he had already lost half his health, he was so foolhardy that he had managed to take down several pineapple people as well.
Ran Mingyue calmly said, “Jiang Qiaoye, just come out. I’m too lazy to corner you.”
Li Guang shouted, “Be careful! Teacher Wen is here!”
At Li Guang’s shout, Ran Mingyue dodged to the side, and luckily, her raincoat protected her, so she wasn’t afraid of getting wet on the inside even after rolling on the ground.
Wen Yingzhi, wearing the leaf suit, was jumping all over the place. When she came down, she landed directly behind Ran Mingyue. Ran Mingyue didn’t even have time to use her water gun. She could only shout, “Hurry!”
Li Guang rushed over and pressed down on the life point on Wen Yingzhi’s back. Half of her life was gone.
“06, you’re for real!” Wen Yingzhi twisted and quickly backed away. Ran Mingyue also got into position. Wen Yingzhi shouted, “Hurry up, Jiang Qiaoye!”
Li Guang didn’t know what use it was for her to call Jiang Qiaoye now. Jiang Qiaoye was a bit far away and couldn’t get there to save her quickly. It was a chaotic fight with four players in the forest. The hunting team had the upper hand because both Wen Yingzhi and Jiang Qiaoye were already at low health.
Now, all it would take was one more press—
Li Guang’s hand was just about to press the second life point on Wen Yingzhi’s shoulder, but Jiang Qiaoye’s hand came up with his knife, and he unhesitatingly cleared out the last pineapple person. A notification sounded in the small forest of the villa area.
All the NPCs in the forest were completely cleared out by Ran Mingyue and Jiang Qiaoye.
“Time is paused. No one’s health will be affected. NPC count is in progress. Please wait for ten seconds.”
Health doesn’t count? And you can’t move?
“What’s that thing?”
As a group of new, bright red NPCs came running from outside the forest, Ran Mingyue and Li Guang’s gazes both turned to them. Wen Yingzhi no longer cared about her image and rolled on the ground, rushing to meet up with Jiang Qiaoye.
“What the heck are those? Strawberries?” Jiang Qiaoye froze in place. “First pineapples, then strawberries. Production team, did you get lost in a fruit world?”
Wen Yingzhi was very close to Jiang Qiaoye at this point. It seemed like she could escape in the next second, but it also meant she could be eliminated in the next second.
The two exchanged a look.
Wen Yingzhi: You know what to do later, right?
Jiang Qiaoye showed that he understood.
Ten seconds. The life or death of a team depended on these ten seconds.
…
“I see now. When all the pineapple people are eliminated, it triggers the production team’s new NPCs. I heard Sister Wang say before that the NPCs will always exist,” Ran Mingyue said calmly, not stopping her thinking as she looked at her surroundings.
Li Guang nodded.
Ran Mingyue’s mind worked so fast. She had guessed the production team’s intention perfectly.
“Countdown, three seconds!”
Xiang Que and Hua Yuzhi were at the exit. Ran Mingyue had a water gun in her hand, so no matter how Wen Yingzhi hid, it was useless. As soon as the countdown ended, they would be hunted down.
Even if Wen Yingzhi and Jiang Qiaoye weren’t eliminated in the forest, they would be surrounded by the lake at the exit.
As soon as the countdown ended, Jiang Qiaoye suddenly rushed over and raised his knife to attack his own teammate, Wen Yingzhi. “I told you not to stay with me, but you wouldn’t listen!”
Wen Yingzhi didn’t run anywhere else. Instead, she rushed toward Ran Mingyue. “Mingyue, save me!”
Jiang Qiaoye really started attacking his own teammate, as if he were a different person. Ran Mingyue was too slow to react to what these two were trying to pull.
Her water gun didn’t shoot at Wen Yingzhi. Li Guang also didn’t know what Wen Yingzhi and Jiang Qiaoye were up to.
“I’ve been annoyed with you for a long time. Just because you got a weapon, you’re at low health and blaming me?” Wen Yingzhi said with a cold laugh, looking very angry. “I told you we’d each take one zone, but no, you had to come to my zone. Are you happy now that you’ve dragged me down? If you hadn’t come here, I would have just stayed on that branch and won. Do you understand? Your brain is full of water!”
After Wen Yingzhi’s tirade, Ran Mingyue and Li Guang understood.
What she said… actually made a little bit of sense.
“You didn’t hide well, and you’re blaming me?” Jiang Qiaoye said as he ran outside. Xiang Que and Hua Yuzhi were already guarding the exit, so he couldn’t escape.
“Captain, don’t blame me for this. I’m abandoning the darkness and embracing the light,” Jiang Qiaoye said to Ran Mingyue. “Don’t kill me yet. I’ll give you all of our team’s coordinates. Trust me!”
Li Guang said, “Hiss… trust him?”
“It doesn’t matter if we trust him or not. He won’t last long, and neither will Wen Yingzhi. They’re both at low health,” Ran Mingyue said. “No matter which way they go, one more hit and they’ll be eliminated. But now, we can use them to test the new NPCs’ trigger words.”
“You’re so smart,” Li Guang said. “Will it take some time to find out? I’ll watch with you.”
Li Guang excitedly rubbed her hands together and watched the show with Ran Mingyue. The next second, she let out a surprised gasp.
“He’s actually walking toward the lake! Isn’t he looking for death?” The lake was right next to the exit. As soon as they appeared within sight of the lake, Xiang Que and Hua Yuzhi would definitely see them.
If two members of the escape team died at the same time, the other one, Song Suoqi, would have no backbone and would be too easy to find.
“Jiang Qiaoye, stop. You’re still coming? I’m not going to be nice to you,” Wen Yingzhi was already by the lake. The sign that previously forbade swimming had been replaced with a new text, but it was too far away for Ran Mingyue to read clearly.
“Are you scared of me? Am I scared of you?” Jiang Qiaoye was smug. He had a weapon in his hand and didn’t care about Wen Yingzhi’s threats. Instead, he kept advancing. “I’m telling you, I’m going to show my loyalty today! Sorry, Captain, but if I don’t eliminate you, the other team won’t accept me.”
“Over there!”
At the same time, Jiang Qiaoye and Wen Yingzhi appeared in Xiang Que and Hua Yuzhi’s line of sight.
As they ran over, Jiang Qiaoye’s attention was momentarily diverted. In that instant, Wen Yingzhi suddenly sprinted toward him, got behind him, and kicked him into the lake.
Splash!
Ran Mingyue: ?
“What are you…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Jiang Qiaoye was thrashing in the lake, yelling as he scrambled to the shore. “Captain, you’re crazy! How can you be so heartless to me? I yelled for help, did you hear me?”
The lake wasn’t deep. It was a man-made lake. The shore was only knee-high. Jiang Qiaoye was completely unprepared. When he was kicked in, he was completely submerged.
It was still raining, and the water level of the lake had risen a bit. Jiang Qiaoye, completely soaked, stood up. Although his tone was complaining, his face showed no signs of it.
Li Guang: ???
What was wrong with these people?
Were they too immersed in the game?
As a staff member watching from the side, she never expected Wen Yingzhi to be this fierce.
Ran Mingyue quickly ran over, and with Xiang Que and Hua Yuzhi, their entire team was now together.
Jiang Qiaoye mumbled something, and the broadcast sounded.
“Time continues. Due to players triggering a regional mission, all players by the lake must perform the water tank challenge.”
Only then did Ran Mingyue see the words on the sign.
“When a player falls into the lake and yells for help with no one responding, a regional mission is triggered. All players in the area, whether from the escape team or the hunt team, must perform the mission. After completing the mission, you will get a health boost.”
Damn it. They did this to trigger the mission and get a health boost!
Wen Yingzhi wiped her face and shook the raindrops off her body. “How was Jiang Qiaoye and my acting? Can it be used as editing material for the show?”
Ran Mingyue: “Get lost.”
Li Guang was dumbfounded when she saw the sign.
Other staff members brought out props. On the platform were five large water tanks, each about forty centimeters in length, width, and height, clearly meant for the five of them.
Li Guang whispered “understood” and changed her position.
The voice in her earpiece told Li Guang to stand behind the guest she was protecting. The other security guards did the same.
This made Li Guang wonder… The challenge was just holding their breath in the water, so was there another danger? Why else would they be so alert and have all the security guards on standby?
Li Guang stayed alert. She noticed that the props would appear on the left side.
Wang Rou’s voice read the rules through the speaker:
“The underwater breath-holding challenge. The rules are as follows.”
“When the game is announced to start, a random prop will appear on the table. Guests can choose to grab it or not. The person who holds their breath the longest in the water tank gets a score. Please note, the person with the lowest score at the end of the game will be punished.”
“You have no time to prepare. The game starts now!”
All five people were still listening carefully to the rules, but the production team gave the guests no time to react and threw them straight into the game.
“Hurry! Props on the left! Hurry!” Li Guang was the fastest to react. She couldn’t help but whisper a reminder from behind.
Ran Mingyue obviously heard her.
She trusted Li Guang and didn’t even have time to see what it was. She instinctively reached out to grab it.
Just three seconds! Hurry, hurry, hurry!
A groove, two grooves… they’re swimming goggles.
She quickly put them on, expertly made it in the last second, and then unhesitatingly buried her face in the water tank.
The breath-holding began.
Because she had the goggles on, Ran Mingyue saw the words on the bottom of her water tank.
“Please perform a delicate faint. Within one minute, if someone is willing to give you CPR/chest compressions or other rescue actions, you will gain the ‘Dodder Flower’ skill and be linked to that person’s health bar. Note: You must act out the corresponding state based on the reactions of those around you.”
A delicate… faint?
Wait, CPR? Who? Who will give me CPR? And whose health bar will I be linked to?
Ran Mingyue’s brain reacted in an instant.
“I can’t hold my breath anymore!”
Splash!
People came out of the water tank one after another. Ran Mingyue didn’t know who they were. She didn’t look. She just knew that two people had already come out.
She counted in her head, determined to hold it for one minute.
Hua Yuzhi was the second person to come up. Her cardiopulmonary function wasn’t great, and she was afraid of water, so she got out after about ten seconds.
She was next to Ran Mingyue. She rubbed her eyes to make sure she wasn’t seeing things. Ran Mingyue’s body was swaying precariously.
“Look at Teacher Ran, everyone! Teacher Ran is swaying!” Hua Yuzhi didn’t care about anything else. She yelled, “Teacher Ran, don’t hold your breath until you suffocate! Don’t take the game so seriously. Ran, Ran Teac—”
At Hua Yuzhi’s voice, everyone looked up.
Li Guang’s nerves were on edge. She finally understood why all the security guards were told to stand in the back—it was to prevent this danger.
The guests could pass out from lack of oxygen.
Li Guang was right behind her and reacted in an instant. As Ran Mingyue’s body fell limply, she took a step forward and tightly wrapped her arms around Ran Mingyue, letting Ran Mingyue lean safely and securely on her.
Ran Mingyue had really fainted!
Her face was so pale, even her lips. Li Guang almost wanted to carry Ran Mingyue and find a doctor, but there was no alert in her earpiece, which meant the show had to continue.
Continue what?! The person has fainted!
“Put her down! Put her down, let her breathe. She can’t stand.” Xiang Que suggested. “Her face is so pale. Is it from lack of oxygen… do we need to?”
He choked on his words. Hua Yuzhi completed his sentence: “…CPR?”
Li Guang’s head shot up.
Everyone was flustered, but CPR…
“Who knows CPR?”
“I don’t! Do you have to learn that?” Hua Yuzhi asked. “Who knows CPR? Who knows professional CPR?”
“I do.”
“…I do.”
Two voices sounded at the same time: one from Xiang Que, and one from Li Guang, who was propping up Ran Mingyue with her leg.
Li Guang and Xiang Que exchanged a look. Their voices sounded at the same time again:
“I can’t!”
“I can’t.”
Li Guang: ??
Wen Yingzhi watched the commotion from the side, and only she was trying to stifle a laugh. She had seen that Ran Mingyue hadn’t really fainted.
As expected of Oscar-worthy acting, unflappable in a big scene.
She rushed forward, grabbed Li Guang’s shoulders, and said righteously, “Who can’t? This is about saving a life, 06. You do it. What if Teacher Ran gets hurt from holding her breath? Look, her face is even turning purple!”
Ran Mingyue: Acting peacefully.
…Who’s face is turning purple, Wen Yingzhi? Don’t cause trouble here! I can’t act out a purple face!
Her microphone had fallen to the side. Wen Yingzhi seized the opportunity.
“Purple? Purple?” Li Guang frantically wanted to give Ran Mingyue a hard pinch on the philtrum, but Wen Yingzhi quickly stopped her. “You do it, you do it!”
“I don’t dare!” Li Guang whispered. “I really don’t dare! I… I don’t have the status. I can’t do it!”
In Li Guang’s mind, at least Xiang Que had worked with Ran Mingyue. She and Ran Mingyue were unequal in every way, so she couldn’t do it.
Wen Yingzhi held her down. “You have to! Hurry! Ran Mingyue, did you hear that? Hurry up and give her a title so she can give you CPR! Look, she’s awake!”
Ran Mingyue, who had excitedly sat up, looked at the surprised Li Guang and then at Wen Yingzhi.
…
She was just filled with hate.jpg
