The Security Guard Who Won the Heart of the Unattainable Actress - Chapter 15
Chapter 15
Li Guang’s heart skipped a beat right then and there. She took another step back, her back pressing against the cold inner wall of the elevator.
Ji Yuan, already wide-eyed with shock, mustered all his strength to exclaim, “Hello, Teacher Ran!”
Li Guang followed suit, “Hello, Teacher Ran!”
Teacher Ran?
Great, the form of address had regressed.
Ran Mingyue’s expression completely soured.
She was already wearing a powerful black coat, and her slender, pale ankles were supported by very high-heeled pointed shoes. With her intimidating presence, Li Guang didn’t dare to look up at all.
But she sniffed and noticed that Ran Mingyue smelled so good.
A crisp, cold scent of snow-capped mountains mixed with a woody base note, reminding Li Guang of a small wooden cabin with a bonfire at the foot of a snowy mountain.
She really liked this scent.
Ran Mingyue was at Xi Guang for a serious business meeting, so she was dressed a bit formally. When she heard Li Guang’s greeting, she felt annoyed, but then she caught sight of a stray, curly strand of Li Guang’s hair. Her body’s actions were honest and she wanted to reach out and smooth the curl back in place.
Shang Wenya spoke up, “You know her?”
Ran Mingyue’s hand paused.
“Li Guang?”
Just then, Ji Yuan called for her from outside. Li Guang seemed to snap out of her stupor, escaping the confined two-person space and running out.
Before the elevator door closed, Li Guang heard Ran Mingyue say to her manager, “No, not familiar.”
She didn’t look back, feeling a scorching gaze on her back until the elevator door finally closed.
Phew.
“Didn’t you want a photo of Teacher Ran from the big production? Why didn’t you seize the opportunity in the elevator to ask her for one?”
I wouldn’t dare. How could I?
“I’ll give you that photo, why are you so scared?” Ji Yuan waved his hand in front of Li Guang’s face. “Even though everyone says Teacher Ran is aloof, I’ve never heard of her targeting anyone. Don’t be so flustered.”
“You’ll really give it to me?” Li Guang’s eyes lit up.
“I’ll really give it to you, but there’s a condition,” Ji Yuan said with a rub of his hands and a smile. “I just feel your look is too good to waste on a video.”
Li Guang hesitated, “An inappropriate video?”
“No! Oh, just listen to Fang Zihan’s nonsense. That’s a ‘transformation’ video, okay? Go look at my account and you’ll see, it’s absolutely clean and wholesome,” Ji Yuan said. “If you agree, I’ll go back and get it now, and I’ll come find you to film this afternoon.”
One video in exchange for a rare photo of Ran Mingyue.
A great deal! Li Guang agreed.
She was on duty all afternoon anyway.
After making plans with Ji Yuan, Li Guang took the subway back.
She ate, got to work, picked up her phone, and started scrolling, all in one smooth motion.
Her phone pushed a notification about Apple TV’s You Escape. She clicked on it and specifically opened the scrolling comments to read.
Normally, when she watched shows, she loved reading these comments from the audience; they were particularly interesting.
We all know Apple TV’s routine, they’re starting to push couples!
Are you for real, sis? Looking for romantic moments in a survival variety show? Are you crazy?
This is the platform best at targeting girly hearts, we’re just professional ‘shipper’s /doge/doge.
Li Guang then remembered that last year, Apple TV had a show about ex-couples but managed to use clever editing to create multiple pairings, leading to a fan group called the “[I’ll ship anything and get a balanced diet] cult,” which made ordinary people instant stars.
Since then, Apple TV’s editing style had become fixed, and fans could always find romantic hints for their favorite couples from seemingly ordinary clips.
Hahahaha, this is Apple TV’s tradition! The people on this show are already famous, they don’t need to get more popular. So why can’t they pursue their personal lives here? /laughing eye.
What you’re saying seems to make sense…
A giant poll comment flew up:
Voting has started!
899 votes Wen Yingzhi vs. Hua Yuzhi: This one goes without saying, right? There were rumors of a scandal between them a while ago! And now they’re appearing together on a show. It’s a given there will be something to ship here!
601 votes Song Suoqi vs. Hua Yuzhi: Hahahaha, is it too much for these two pathetic variety show rookies to be paired up!
[?] Ran Mingyue vs. Xiang Que. Although I’d call them a heavy-hitter group, why does it feel like everyone can be paired with Mingyue? Ran Mingyue’s ‘alpha female’ vibe can match with everyone, ahhh!
Then came the results: [Ran Mingyue vs. All | Xiang Que (6989 votes) | Hua Yuzhi (789 votes) | Song Suoqi (500 votes) | Jiang Qiaoye (897 votes)
The most talked-about pairing was Ran Mingyue and Xiang Que, with people saying they were a true ‘strong-strong’ couple.
Why Xiang Que?
Ran Mingyue and Xiang Que don’t have any chemistry, Li Guang muttered to herself.
An ‘Emperor’ and an ‘Empress’ of film, that’s the only level they should be paired at. This is the official pairing, my friends! Just look at that scene where Teacher Ran pointed a gun at Teacher Xiang. Isn’t that cool and ‘alpha’? It’s so obvious the production team deliberately left that scene in, okay.
Are you sleeping under the producer’s bed? How do you know this was pre-planned? Didn’t they say there’s no script?
Even the most niche couples have shippers. It’s 2024 already. She’s clarified countless times that they’re just best friends, yet there are still 300 people voting for Ran Mingyue and Wen Yingzhi. The delusion is hilarious.
Ran Mingyue is the top-billed star. Whoever is next to her automatically gets a boost in status. Fans, hurry up and vote, making your couple first is the key to traffic.
Let’s put it nicely, Ran Mingyue is an international star. To be blunt, she doesn’t care about the domestic market, right? What, now she wants to make money so she’s coming to create fake couples? What was with all the arrogance in the past? Why not keep acting in movies? Why is she taking on a transitional TV series, and now a variety show where she’s crushing others in billing? Is it really necessary?
As the comments about billing disputes kept popping up, Li Guang had already clicked into the detailed results of the couple poll under the video.
It was true, every possible pairing existed.
Bored, she scrolled all the way to the very end, and her gaze stopped.
In the last couple slot, it was clearly written:
Ran Mingyue vs. Escort Security Guard No. 06
This wasn’t a niche pairing; this was a weird, ‘evil’ one!
There was no annotation or explanation. This pairing was at the very bottom of the poll, and most people wouldn’t even scroll down this far.
It only showed that the originator had sent a comment at 32 minutes and 46 seconds saying: Isn’t this a match?
Number of votes: 1.
That timestamp was from when Li Guang was carrying Ran Mingyue down to the lake to look for clues.
Li Guang’s fingers trembled with excitement. Her eyes were fixed on that option, and she cast her precious vote.
“Li Guang! What are you doing?”
Li Guang looked up as if she had been caught doing something wrong and quickly put her phone away. It was Ji Yuan.
It was the first time Ji Yuan had seen Li Guang in her work uniform, and he was dumbfounded.
“Whoa, you look quite legit in that, huh?”
Li Guang pulled her cap down, covering the upper half of her face, and lowered her voice, “Not bad, right?”
“Not bad? It’s great! Just wear this to film the inappropriate… oh, no, the transformation video with me. Why do I feel like this uniform looks especially good on you?” Ji Yuan was instantly captivated by her looks and began to backtrack, even though he had been advising Li Guang to quit this job that very morning.
They didn’t go far, choosing a spot to the left after entering the residential complex where the sunlight was good. According to Ji Yuan’s plan, they’d film a normal look and then a transformation.
To make the transformed look more effective, the ‘before’ outfit needed to be a stark contrast. Li Guang wore a set she had been given at last year’s company dinner.
The classic combination of a fuzzy hoodie and a skirt. The hoodie had long ears hanging from the hood, and a tail in the back, making her look like a little runaway lop-eared rabbit.
Ji Yuan had no inhibitions. When it was time to change, he simply took off his top, revealing a very flashy tank top underneath.
It looked like a tank top, but it was actually just two thin straps hanging over his pectoral muscles, revealing everything that could be revealed, a stark contrast to Li Guang’s cute rabbit image.
Ji Yuan worked hard to strike various seductive poses, while Li Guang worked equally hard to keep her lips from twitching, trying not to break character.
They finished filming quickly.
“Amazing, Li Guang! I never knew you were such a hidden gem. This video is definitely going to get a lot of attention.” Ji Yuan checked the footage on his camera and handed the photo to Li Guang. “Here.”
It was a profile shot of Ran Mingyue on a stage, her gaze lowered, looking cool and detached.
Li Guang cherished it, taking out a single-layered leather case—one she had specifically bought to preserve this photo.
“I’m going to go change now. I still have to work.”
“Wait, let’s take a behind-the-scenes shot. Come on! Two selfies!” Ji Yuan stopped her and raised his phone. “Come closer. Don’t make it look like we’re not close.”
Li Guang did as he said and gave a very normal peace sign.
She didn’t know that all of this was being watched by the owner of a car not far away.
After saying goodbye to Ji Yuan, Li Guang went to change. She fiddled with the rabbit ears on her hoodie, pulling them to the front.
There were support rods inside the ears, so they felt quite heavy hanging from the back of her neck.
After walking a couple of steps, it felt uncomfortable, so Li Guang shook the hoodie and put the hood on her head.
Finally, it felt comfortable.
Looking at the big rabbit ears in the sun, Li Guang found it quite amusing.
She hopped and skipped, playing with her shadow, on her way to the security office.
Li Guang was looking down, playing with her rabbit ears, completely failing to notice that someone was already standing in front of her.
Until her rabbit ear was tugged.
“Trying to run into me again?”
The voice was close by.
“Sister Mingyue? Why are you back… Oh, good afternoon, resident!” She looked a bit flustered in the outfit, giving her an unintentional, cute charm.
When she looked up, the rabbit ears also perked up as Li Guang spoke.
Ran Mingyue, however, pulled the leather case from Li Guang’s pocket. “What’s this?”
Li Guang was shocked. “Sister Mingyue, give it back! You can’t look at this!”
Ran Mingyue’s gaze wavered. It was the first time she had seen Li Guang so flustered. She tightened her grip on the leather case, which clearly held a photo.
Who was it? Who could make Li Guang so concerned?
“Sister Mingyue, don’t open it! Please, give this back to me, give it back.” Li Guang’s face was flushed with anxiety. Ran Mingyue saw that the photo inside was of Ran Mingyue herself, and that would be too embarrassing!
“I can give it to you, but you have to take a photo with me,” Ran Mingyue suppressed her urge to keep asking questions, along with the sense of loss that was welling up inside her.
“Okay!” Li Guang agreed without hesitation. “Come on, let’s take one now!”
She approached Ran Mingyue without any prompting, waiting obediently for Ran Mingyue to open her camera.
Ran Mingyue lowered her eyes.
She saw that Li Guang’s ears were flushed all the way to the tips; the young girl was genuinely anxious.
Sensing the trusting closeness of the fuzzy little rabbit, Ran Mingyue’s breathing grew lighter. She remained still, her heart feeling heavy, as if weighed down by a stone for no reason.
When Li Guang looked up with a questioning gaze, Ran Mingyue still couldn’t help but ask,
“Is this photo so important to you? Is it someone you like?”
