The Scum Gong Villain Returns to Work - Chapter 4
At that moment, Yu Sui had just finished his shift at the bar, walking through the alley behind the back door while wearing the coat Yu Baihua had bought him, preparing to head home.
The rarely frequented alley only offered the flicker of distant streetlights, with the night wind howling and sweeping through the corridor. Yu Sui walked composedly, casually removing the Bluetooth earpiece from his ear.
System 058, which had been ordered by Yu Sui to keep quiet because it was being too noisy, woke up from standby, as though sensing something amiss.
“Are we going to fight?” 058 asked with cautious hesitation.
“Mhm,” Yu Sui gave a simple hum of assent, then sidestepped to evade a figure that seemed to materialize out of thin air. Twisting his right wrist, he counter-grabbed and locked the wrist of the man who had instinctively moved to retaliate, jerking it back in the opposite direction. Yu Sui’s wrists weren’t the thick, muscular kind bulging with thick veins; on the contrary, they looked far more slender in comparison. Yet locked around another person’s hand, they felt no different from cold, rigid iron.
Judging by the subtle noises nearby, there was more than one person arriving. Not worried in the slightest about losing a fight, 058 was just wondering what sort of development this was when it watched Yu Sui clearly spot someone lunging from behind and deliberately choose not to dodge, taking a direct blow to the shoulder head-on.
058 was struck dumb with astonishment.
Yu Sui let out a very cooperative, muffled groan and dropped to his knees. On second thought, deciding that wasn’t quite enough, he closed his eyes to make it look as though he had been knocked unconscious from the pain.
At that moment, the subordinates dispatched by Yu Baihua to fetch Yu Sui gathered around, all of them staring at one another in mutual blankness the kid had started a fight without the slightest provocation, and his combat skills were obviously extraordinary; how on earth had he passed out from a single hit?
How were they supposed to explain this to the boss later? Did people even stage intentional car accidents for extortion or kidnapping scams these days?
A group of burly men dressed in black looked at each other in dismay, ultimately having no choice but to lift Yu Sui onto a car with resigned resignation.
Yu Baihua wasn’t staying at his own family residence, but rather maintaining a long-term suite at a hotel under his name for reasons unknown. In any case, by the time Yu Baihua finished soaking in a bath to clean himself up, wrapped himself in a bathrobe, and sat on the sofa playing on his phone while waiting for people to return, what awaited him was an unconscious Yu Sui slumped over a chair.
Frowning, Yu Baihua picked up his water glass and took a sip. He was still struggling slightly to distinguish between reality and hallucinations, and after confirming for a good while that his eyes weren’t deceiving him, he ordered someone to wake Yu Sui up.
“I didn’t tell you lot to go to this extreme.” He toyed with the glass tumbler in his hand, suddenly dropping those words.
The subordinates dispatched by him lowered their heads in silent self-reflection.
“Never mind.” Yu Baihua let out a mocking, derisive laugh. “He had it coming.”
Having been revived with two cups of ice water, Yu Sui was waking up in a hazy daze, narrowing his eyes slightly as he stared fixedly at Yu Baihua, as though still failing to comprehend what had just transpired.
“All of you, out.” With that command, Yu Baihua stood up and took a couple of steps forward until he stopped right in front of Yu Sui.
The subordinates obediently pulled the door shut behind them. Yu Baihua looked down from his height upon the still-dazed Yu Sui, whose perplexed gaze met his, long eyelashes casting delicate shadows within the deep sockets of his eyes.
The collar of Yu Sui’s black wool sweater hung loosely, and droplets of ice water trickled down past his collarbone. Because of the biting chill, the skin was stimulated into a faint, delicate flush. He instinctively raised a hand to clasp Yu Baihua’s wrist, tilting his head with a silent question.
Yu Baihua’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He let out a scoff, raised his hand, and pressed his fingertip against the corner of Yu Sui’s lips, his tone heavy and obscure:
“Yu Sui, do you know why I had you brought here?”
Yu Sui suddenly felt as though he couldn’t keep up the act any longer. For reasons unknown, a strange, inexplicable desire stirred within his heart akin to spotting an uninhibited prey, carrying that mischievous, teasing sense of dark humor.
Seizing the initiative, he abruptly exerted force, pulling Yu Baihua downward so that the man staggered and tumbled directly into Yu Sui’s arms, imprisoned within this confined space.
His hand withdrew from Yu Sui’s lips. Lowering his gaze, Yu Sui looked down at the person in his arms. The dappled interplay of light and shadow rendered his handsome, refined features; the previously malicious and unhinged glare had vanished with this sudden maneuver, replaced by a flustered, helpless softness. His thin lips were pressed tightly together, and the eyelashes he lifted flickered with unabashed, all-encompassing panic.
This time, Yu Sui was the one to slide his finger between those parted teeth, his fingertip pressing against the cool, pristine fullness of Yu Baihua’s lower lip. His hoarse, alluring voice carried both a threat and a coaxing enticement:
“I know. I’m here… to make President Yu happy.”
His slender, tapering fingers slipped past his slightly parted teeth, teasing and rolling within,
“Yu Baihua, open your mouth.”
His tone brooked no refusal.
The next second, he kissed Yu Baihua’s lips. His kiss was damp, and what Yu Sui tasted was the rust-like blood drawn by Yu Baihua’s fierce, biting gnawing, alongside the teardrops rolling down his cheeks.
It gave one the sensation that some tender spot in their heart had been gently grazed pitiful and endearing all at once.
Truth be told, Yu Sui had never kissed Yu Baihua before, yet he seemed to intuitively grasp how to master and command every facet of Yu Baihua.
His emotions had never possessed any dramatic peaks or valleys, yet whether in his past life or the present, seeing Yu Baihua always left him with a heavy, aching sensation in his chest identical to the feeling of those teardrops striking the back of his hand right now.
Yu Sui had actually read through the manual compiled by 058 titled The White Lotus Female Lead’s Guide to Conquering the Dragon-Sovereign, and he had only truly learned a single concept from it: this peculiar feeling was called a soft heart, or heartache.
058 had no idea why that previous mission failed in the end, though even without unexpected accidents, it would likely have failed all the same and the punishment awaiting Yu Sui would have far exceeded working another hundred years in the Time Administration.
Across countless worlds, it was rare for Yu Sui’s heart to soften; across countless unexpected turns, it was equally rare for Yu Baihua to show such resolute, unyielding despair.
Slipping his hand into Yu Baihua’s hair, Yu Sui coaxed and pacified him like a frantic little animal, forcing him to tilt his head upward before parting, cupping his face in both hands and speaking slowly:
“Learn well, President Yu. You don’t have my talent, I’m only teaching you this once.”
The first kiss landed upon his brow, causing Yu Baihua’s entire frame to shudder. His fingertips curled inward, gripping the long hair Yu Sui had tied back and tearing the elastic band loose, letting the dark locks tumble across Yu Sui’s shoulders.
The next kissed the center of his eyebrows, then brushed across the bridge of his nose, tracing a winding path downward until it finally came to rest upon the tip of Yu Baihua’s lips. Unlike the previous kiss, which had been fraught with suppression and resistance, this one left Yu Baihua incapable of telling whether he was truly kissing Yu Sui or merely dreaming. He couldn’t remember when this was happening, nor could he comprehend what was going on.
Yu Baihua simply felt a profound sense of grievance. He thought: Yu Sui, why are you only willing to kiss me now?
Not until Yu Baihua’s bathrobe grew rumpled and creased, damp with large patches of moisture and falling into such disarray that it was on the verge of slipping off entirely, did Yu Sui finally deign to grant Yu Baihua a brief respite. Tilting his head slightly, he used his fingertip to wipe away the silver thread of saliva at the corner of Yu Baihua’s mouth. His excessively long hair brushed against Yu Baihua’s eyes, sending tickling shivers across his skin. The ambiguous atmosphere intertwined around them, wholly consumed by the presence of the other person—so intoxicating it made one forget the rest of the world.
Looking at the bloody gasps carved into Yu Baihua’s palms, Yu Sui let out a sigh. Yu Baihua’s gaze remained unfocused a normal physiological reaction following the use of suppressive medication yet he displayed an uncharacteristic, almost startling obedience, gripping Yu Sui’s hand and refusing to let go with a force so fierce it left great swathes of bruised white across his skin.
Magicians cherished their hands above all else, yet Yu Sui made no attempt to pull away, allowing Yu Baihua to tightly clutch his left hand instead before leaning down, scooping him up horizontally in his arms, and striding into the bedroom.
Laying Yu Baihua gently amidst the soft blankets, Yu Sui reached out to pull the quilt up over him, sat down beside the edge of the mattress, and spoke in a soft murmur:
“Sleep.”
“Yu Sui…” Yu Baihua whispered his name.
“Mhm.”
“Yu Sui,” Yu Baihua murmured with his eyes closed, addressing the version of Yu Sui he envisioned before him, “I hate you to death.”
A prolonged silence followed. No one knew how much time elapsed before Yu Sui finally answered that statement.
“I’m sorry.”
The master of ten thousand masks, the consummate illusionist and swindler, uttered one and only one genuine apology on this silent night.
Yu Baihua fell asleep, his grip finally loosening from Yu Sui’s hand as he drifted into a rare, tranquil dream.
Whether Yu Sui would feature inside that dream remained unknown to anyone.
One always felt the story shouldn’t unfold this way; lies, when repeated often enough, ultimately turned into reality. Yu Sui had never once spoken of love, yet the former Yu Baihua had stubbornly clung to his belief in it, at so many moments, Yu Sui’s gaze invariably seemed to say: I want to kiss you.
The lighting was dimmed by Yu Sui, who then meticulously sterilized the gashes on Yu Baihua’s palms before wrapping them in clean white gauze. Leaving the room and pulling the door shut behind him, Yu Sui collapsed onto the large bed in the adjoining room and let out a sigh.
058 finally mustered the courage to wake from standby, asking Yu Sui with extreme caution: “You… are you done?”
“Done,” Yu Sui replied casually, kneaded his own finger joints. “What is it?”
“Tomorrow morning… won’t Yu Baihua pose a threat to your personal safety?”
Yu Sui cast a strange look in 058’s direction. “He was the one who forced me. Remind me tomorrow morning when he wakes up to make sure he realizes that.”
…
Recalling the scene of Yu Sui pulling someone onto his lap and kissing them right before it scrambled into panic-induced standby, 058 decided that this person truly deserved to be crowned the ultimate, natural-born sociopathic villain who could look you in the eye and spout utter nonsense.
Respected. Truly, immensely respected.
