The Scum Gong Refuses the Crematorium [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 24
Xie Qingyao really could not enjoy rock music. Hearing the loud banging on the stage made him feel terrible.
He thought everyone else would feel the same. After all, they were high-society people who usually liked elegant instruments like the piano or violin.
However, he was surprised. When the music started, the others didn’t think it was noisy at all. Instead, they acted like crazy fans, cheering loudly for the three performers.
Especially when Sheng Yan showed his charm on stage, the audience went wild, turning the wedding into a big party.
Xie Qingyao bit his lip. Even if he hated the noise, he had to admit that Sheng Yan looked very bright and amazing in that moment.
System 776 reminded him: “That is exactly why you must break him and Lu Mingyue apart. Sheng Yan is so young and bright. Can you stand to let him stay with an old man every day? He will be unhappy and eventually fade away like dust.”
“Go on. Be brave and save him.”
Xie Qingyao took a deep breath. He told himself he wasn’t doing something bad; he was saving Sheng Yan.
After the solo performance ended and the crowd calmed down, the band members left the stage. Xie Qingyao put on a pure smile, walked up to Sheng Yan, and called out sweetly.
“Brother Sheng Yan!”
Sheng Yan felt his heart tighten at the sound. It felt like a feather tickling him. An itchy feeling that made him feel disgusted.
Sheng Yan looked down and adjusted his gloves. “Is something wrong?”
“Your drumming was great. You were so charming,” Xie Qingyao praised him. “Brother Sheng Yan, I think I’m starting to like the drums and rock music now.”
“And?” Sheng Yan didn’t think he came over just to say useless things.
“And…” Xie Qingyao’s face turned a bit red. He looked embarrassed. After a moment, he said, “I want to ask you to be my model.”
He explained: “The moment you played the drums was wonderful. I want to paint that scene. If I put it in my art gallery, it might make more people like rock music.”
He looked at Sheng Yan with hope. “Brother Sheng Yan, what do you think?”
Painting a picture takes a long time. He could paint a little bit every day and ask Sheng Yan to meet him every day.
Plus, since they had a history, and he no longer hated the drums, he could show his admiration. Over time, Sheng Yan would surely be attracted to him again.
Sheng Yan finished with his gloves and looked up. He gave a simple answer: “I don’t think so.”
People go to art galleries to see art. Who really focuses on the subject? Besides, painting takes a long time, but the moment he throws a drumstick only lasts a few seconds. Did Xie Qingyao want him to throw it thousands of times a day?
Also, one of them was married and the other was single. They used to be engaged. Wouldn’t it be a problem to spend every day together?
Sheng Yan saw right through him. Was Xie Qingyao regretting breaking the engagement? Or did he have another goal?
Xie Qingyao was shocked. In the past, Sheng Yan loved it when he painted him. Sheng Yan had begged him for a painting many times, but he had always refused. Now that he offered to paint Sheng Yan’s favorite hobby, he was rejected!
“Why, Brother Sheng Yan?”
“I’m married.” Sheng Yan’s reason was quick and clear. Because he was married, it wasn’t right to hang out with an ex-fiancé. Because he was married, he shouldn’t spend time with a childhood friend he once liked. It was that simple.
That reason was very strong.
But Xie Qingyao wouldn’t give up. He acted angry for Sheng Yan’s sake: “But we are just painting! Even if you are married, you haven’t cut off all your friends. No matter how bossy Mr. Lu is, he can’t take away your freedom just because of a wedding!”
Xie Qingyao believed Sheng Yan didn’t really want to refuse. He thought Lu Mingyue must have forced him to say that.
“What freedom?” Lu Mingyue had just finished talking to some guests. He walked over and heard Xie Qingyao’s words.
Sheng Yan acted like he didn’t care.
Xie Qingyao had to explain: “We were saying that even though you and Brother Sheng Yan are married, you shouldn’t stop him from seeing his old friends.”
“Of course not,” Lu Mingyue smiled. “He is free. He can do whatever he wants.”
Lu Mingyue knew exactly what Xie Qingyao was thinking. The boy hadn’t given up; he wanted to see Sheng Yan all the time. Didn’t he tear the wedding clothes himself? Didn’t he want to cancel the wedding? What was he doing now?
Xie Qingyao asked immediately: “Including playing the drums?”
“Naturally.” Lu Mingyue ignored Xie Qingyao’s plan and looked at Sheng Yan. “Actually, I have started a rock music company. We don’t have any artists yet. I wanted to ask if you and your friends would like to join.”
Sheng Yan looked at him, confused. “We are married. Yours is mine. Why do you need to ask?”
This meant he agreed.
Lu Mingyue laughed happily. “Right, I don’t need to ask. I’ll have someone prepare the contracts.”
The two of them talked to each other and completely ignored Xie Qingyao.
Xie Qingyao was furious. He wanted to interrupt, but he had nothing to say. They were a legal couple discussing business. What reason did he have to stop them? Could he start a music company for Sheng Yan? He didn’t have that kind of money.
After a while, seeing that they wouldn’t stop talking, Xie Qingyao left. He planned to go home and start the painting anyway. He thought Sheng Yan didn’t trust him because he had broken his promises too many times. Once the painting was finished, Sheng Yan would see his heart.
As soon as he left, Sheng Yan stopped Lu Mingyue. “He’s gone.”
“I know,” Lu Mingyue nodded. “I wasn’t lying. I really did start a company. Will you think about it?”
Sheng Yan was surprised.
Lu Mingyue praised him: “Your performance was very charming. I think you have great potential.”
Sheng Yan replied politely: “Thank you. Your wealth is also very impressive.”
Sheng Yan knew that playing rock music was just a way to burn money nowadays. Even when the Sheng family was rich, they never gave him money for it. Lu Mingyue was different; he actually spent the money to start a company for him.
After a long day of wedding events and guests, even the young and strong Sheng Yan felt tired.
Lu Mingyue looked at him. “The hotel has a room for us. Do you want to go up and rest?”
“Okay,” Sheng Yan agreed.
But when they opened the door, they saw rose petals all over the floor, red “happiness” stickers, ribbons, red balloons, and red bedding. There were even two towels folded into swans. It was a perfect “love” room.
Sheng Yan looked at Lu Mingyue. “Did you arrange this?”
“…No.” Lu Mingyue couldn’t explain. He didn’t ask for this. The hotel manager probably did it as a surprise.
He didn’t realize they had a “deal” marriage. The manager’s kindness had hit a wall.
Sheng Yan was too tired to care. Since Lu Mingyue said it wasn’t him, he walked in and got a glass of water.
Lu Mingyue felt awkward. He said, “You wash up first. I’ll clean this up?”
“Okay.” Sheng Yan nodded. Whoever showered first got to sleep first. He was so sleepy his eyes were closing.
After his water, he walked straight into the bathroom without even taking a change of clothes.
Lu Mingyue cleaned the bed and opened the closet to put away the decorations. He realized Sheng Yan forgot his clothes.
He called out: “Sheng Yan, you forgot your pajamas. Should I hang them outside the door?”
Just as he took a robe out, the bathroom door opened.
Sheng Yan came out with only a towel around his waist. His chest was bare. He was drying his hair with another towel. “No need,” he replied.
“…Okay.” Lu Mingyue froze for a second. He quickly turned his head away and hung the robe back in the closet.
Since Sheng Yan used the towel for his body, and he had just taken a quick shower, he was still wet. He didn’t want to sit on the bed, so he sat on the sofa.
He leaned back, showing his smooth, toned back. His hair had grown long and reached his neck. Water droplets fell from his hair and ran down his back.
Lu Mingyue looked once and felt his throat go dry. He quickly got a glass of water for himself.
After calming down, he said as calmly as possible, “The bed is ready. You’re tired, so go ahead and sleep. I’m leaving now.”
Sheng Yan, still drying his hair, looked up. “Aren’t you staying to sleep here?”
He sat there, half-naked, surrounded by rose petals. He wasn’t trying to be sexy, but Lu Mingyue felt tempted.
“No.”
Lu Mingyue almost ran out of the room.
If he were ten years younger—no, five years younger—he would chase Sheng Yan no matter what.
But Lu Mingyue looked at his hands. Even though he took care of himself, he was starting to see small wrinkles. He was no longer young.
Sheng Yan had just turned eighteen. Lu Mingyue was old enough to be his father. How could he deserve someone so young and bright? No matter how much he loved him, love isn’t just about sex.
Years of waiting had made Lu Mingyue calm. He didn’t hope for impossible things anymore. All he wanted was to see him again. Knowing that he was okay was enough.
Lu Mingyue touched the prayer beads on his wrist to calm his heart. He would keep his feelings buried forever.
Sheng Yan wasn’t surprised that Lu Mingyue left. He dried himself off, climbed into bed, and fell into a deep sleep.
When he woke up, it was already noon. Lu Mingyue had already seen off most of the guests. Only a few close friends and family were left.
“Finally, you’re awake!” Zheng Ke and Zhong Nai looked at him like he was their hero.
Yesterday they were brave because they were performing. But when they woke up today and faced all the scary business leaders, they felt helpless. Without the music, they were like shy birds hiding in a corner.
Seeing Sheng Yan made them feel safe.
“What’s wrong?” Sheng Yan asked sleepily.
“We were waiting to say goodbye.” Since they were Sheng Yan’s only invited friends, they didn’t want to leave without saying anything.
“Okay,” Sheng Yan nodded.
“Then we’re leaving.” They couldn’t wait to get out of such a fancy place.
“Wait.” Sheng Yan stopped them. He drank some water to wake up and told them what Lu Mingyue said about the music company.
“For real?” They both stopped and sat back down.
“Probably.” Sheng Yan felt Lu Mingyue wasn’t the type to play jokes.
“Probably?” They were worried. “Is it true or not?”
A music contract was a small thing to rich people, but it was their whole future.
Sheng Yan asked: “If it is true, will you sign?”
“Of course! Why wouldn’t we?” they said together.
Rock music was so unpopular now that they could only play in bars. If a company wanted to sign them and make them famous, they would take the chance in a heartbeat.
“Okay, I’ll let you know when I hear more.”
After they left, the hotel was empty. Eventually, Sheng Yan’s parents said they were going home too.
“I’ll see you out,” Lu Mingyue said. He helped them with their luggage.
Sheng Yan carried his own bags and followed them. He climbed into the back seat of his parents’ car.
The three of them looked at each other. No one moved.
“What’s wrong?” Sheng Yan asked.
“You’re married now,” his father said emotionally.
“I know.” Sheng Yan nodded. He had the certificate in his pocket.
“Yan Yan,” his mother said, “Your dad means that since you are married, it’s not right for you to live at home anymore.”
Sheng Yan froze. “Then where do I live?”
His father looked at Lu Mingyue outside the car. He was asking: Did you not arrange a place for my son to stay?
Lu Mingyue understood immediately. “Sheng Yan, you stay with me. Let your parents go home and rest.”
Sheng Yan had to get out of the car with his bags. Watching his parents drive away, he felt like he had been abandoned overnight.
“They are probably afraid people will gossip if we don’t live together right after the wedding,” Lu Mingyue explained.
Sheng Yan understood. The wedding was for show, after all.
“I have to trouble you again, Mr. Lu.” Sheng Yan wasn’t ungrateful. Lu Mingyue only needed a partner for a deal, and now his family was causing more trouble. He had to say thank you.
“It’s no trouble.” Lu Mingyue’s heart skipped a beat. He wanted to say that nothing regarding Sheng Yan was a trouble, but he kept it to himself.
Lu Mingyue’s home was in the most expensive area of the city. It had three floors, a butler, and three maids.
The butler met them at the door. He took Sheng Yan’s bags and asked Lu Mingyue, “Should I put Mr. Sheng’s things in your room, Mr. Lu?”
Lu Mingyue had a walk-in closet in his room. The butler thought Lu Mingyue had married Sheng Yan for “other” reasons and was trying to be helpful.
Lu Mingyue knew what the butler and everyone at the wedding was thinking. They thought he had tricked the boy into his bed.
“No, put them in the guest room.” Lu Mingyue didn’t care what they thought. His goal was just to make sure everyone knew Sheng Yan was his partner. In this world, only family or marriage allows someone to inherit wealth. With this marriage, Sheng Yan could legally take his property when he passed away one day without any trouble.
The butler felt a bit awkward and took the bags to the second floor.
Sheng Yan looked around. He liked the house a lot. The sofas, the rugs, the elegant cups, the flowers, and the piano—everything was exactly his style.
“How do you like it?” Lu Mingyue asked nervously.
“It’s very nice. Very elegant.”
He thought Lu Mingyue’s house would look like his father’s—full of heavy, old red-wood furniture. But Lu Mingyue’s taste was just like his own.
“I’m glad you like it.” Lu Mingyue felt relieved. He had decorated the house based on how Sheng Yan used to describe his dream home long ago.
When they went to Lu Mingyue’s bedroom, Sheng Yan saw the beautiful rugs and felt the “blue ocean” scent. He was surprised. “I didn’t know your taste was so young, Mr. Lu.”
“I try to keep up with the times,” Lu Mingyue replied.
“It’s a great taste,” Sheng Yan praised. He looked at the room one last time before going to his guest room.
The guest room was boring. A normal bed, a normal desk. It was clean but felt like a hotel. He lost interest quickly.
Lu Mingyue saw his disappointment. “You can decorate it however you want. Just tell the butler what you need.”
He regretted not making a room exactly like his own for Sheng Yan.
Sheng Yan just nodded.
That evening, after dinner and a walk, they went upstairs. As Lu Mingyue was about to enter his own room, Sheng Yan asked: “Do we really not have to sleep together?”
Lu Mingyue was stunned. “Huh?”
Sheng Yan leaned against the door. “I thought about it. Since we are married, it’s weird if we don’t sleep together.”
“So?”
“Let’s sleep together.” Sheng Yan brought his bags from the guest room, opened Lu Mingyue’s door, and walked in. He said nicely, “I can sleep on the floor if I have to.”
