The School Prince is a Girl - Chapter 4
Steward Ye stepped out of the front passenger seat and respectfully opened the rear car door.
In that instant, even the surrounding noise subsided. In the cool morning sunlight, the black Maybach was classic and elegant. The noble young master supported the car door with his long, fair fingers. His slender figure stretched in the sunlight, his refined and sculpted features carrying a natural haughtiness. His pure black eyes reflected a clear, dazzling brilliance under the sun.
Ye Ying stared blankly. For a moment, she felt as if she were looking at a divine being.
Ye Ying had never imagined that the person she had seen just a few days ago would reappear so soon, and that this person was none other than the much-discussed Young Master of the Bai family, whose name had been spreading across the school and even the entire City Y!
At this moment, Ye Ying suddenly understood what the bodyguard had said. Such a noble and elegant young master should indeed be the center of attention, receiving the best of everything. That casual milk tea shop was, in truth, far too simple.
While Ye Ying was staring at Bai Xi in a daze, Bai Xi was lazily dealing with the surrounding school officials.
Having served as a CEO for so many years in her previous life, Bai Xi was all too familiar with these ceremonial pleasantries. However, the present time was different from the past: she was not the shrewd and capable CEO Bai who had entered society, but the haughty Young Master Bai, who was supposedly inexperienced in social etiquette!
Of course, Bai Xi would never admit it, but she was exploiting the age difference to be deliberately lazy, openly offering perfunctory responses while expecting others to be grateful for it.
Sensing Bai Xi’s impatience with the formalities, Steward Ye and the surrounding group of leaders exchanged a few casual greetings and ceased, proposing to first escort Bai Xi into the school.
As the Bai family’s steward, Steward Ye did not wish to seek special privileges. Since everyone else was not allowed to enter the gate, he did not demand entry for himself. After seeing Bai Xi walk smoothly into the Nan Luo High School gate, he exchanged a few more pleasantries with the people at the entrance before leaving.
Knowing that the steward had everything taken care of, Bai Xi ignored the people behind him and walked straight toward the school, the path automatically clearing wherever she went.
“Excuse me, student, please register.” Seeing that Bai Xi was about to walk past without any intention of stopping, Ye Ying had no choice but to bite the bullet and call out to him.
With her keen hearing, Bai Xi accurately caught Ye Ying’s voice. Following the sound, she saw Ye Ying standing by the registration desk, somewhat conspicuous among the crowd.
Looking around, Bai Xi pointed to herself with some uncertainty, as she hadn’t forgotten the eighty-thousand-yuan incident from the previous day.
The student sitting next to Ye Ying was also a third-year special enrollment student and Ye Ying’s roommate. Seeing that Ye Ying dared to call out to the Young Master Bai, who had been personally greeted by the principal and others, she cautiously tugged at Ye Ying’s clothes, signaling her not to bother with a student of this level. After all, he wouldn’t obediently comply, and no teacher would care whether such a student registered or not.
Ye Ying also felt the eyes of the people around them and instantly regretted her action. Just as she was about to shake her head, she saw Bai Xi had already walked over.
“What do I need to register?” Bai Xi stood in front of the registration table, looking at the familiar card-swiping device. She weighed the backpack, which only held the silly cat 002. “I don’t think I have a student ID yet.”
Seeing Bai Xi being so cooperative, Ye Ying glanced at the few people beside her who were covering their mouths and sighing with admiration. She sighed internally. “You can tell me your name and class, and I’ll register you on the computer.”
Although Nan Luo School was an aristocratic school, it employed a form of militarized management. Strict registration was required for entry and exit, and parents were not allowed into the school except under special circumstances, with virtually no exceptions. Although the Bai family was clearly an exception as a major shareholder, they did not have the heart to demand special treatment.
“Bai Xi, the Xi from bustling (xī xī rǎng rǎng). Nan Luo Senior Third Year International Class A, Class Two.” The senior year at Nan Luo High School was divided into the International Class (the school’s main body) and the Special Enrollment Competition Class, each with eight classes. The International Class was divided into four grades based on family background and comprehensive performance: A, B, C, and D. Each grade had two classes of equal standing, ranked in no particular order. Therefore, the wealthiest and highest-performing second-generation heirs in the entire school were mainly in International Class A, Classes One and Two.
Ye Ying silently noted Bai Xi’s words. After completing the registration, she nodded to Bai Xi. “That’s all. Thank you for your cooperation.”
Looking at Ye Ying, who acted as if she had never met him before, Bai Xi curled his lip. “I’ve told you my name and class. Out of courtesy, shouldn’t you tell me who you are?”
Amidst a small chorus of gasps from the onlookers, Ye Ying looked at Bai Xi with a complex expression. Is there something wrong with this person’s brain?
“She’s called Ye Ying, in Competition Class Two! Her grades are super amazing too!” Seeing Ye Ying frowning as if she didn’t plan to answer, the star-struck girl next to her quickly answered for Ye Ying. They were roommates, so she naturally knew Ye Ying’s class and grades.
Glancing at the excited girl, Bai Xi looked back at the aloof Ye Ying, his tone meaningful. “Oh, Competition Class Two. We’re both in Class Two; we truly are fated to meet. By the way, the dessert yesterday was delicious. Thank you.”
Seeing how desperately Ye Ying was trying to distance herself from him, Bai Xi mischievously added that last sentence. Then, he sauntered away, carrying 002, who was sleeping like a dead dog and oblivious to what had happened.
“Wow! What dessert? Ye Ying, have you met Young Master Bai before? You’re so unfair; you didn’t tell us!”
“Yeah, yeah! Oh my god, Young Master Bai is too handsome! And he has no pretense at all; he’s so approachable! I love him, I love him!”
“Mm-hmm, up close, he really has no flaws! I was completely mesmerized just now. Oh my god, he’s like an angelic beauty!”
“I’m so envious of Ye Ying; she actually knows Young Master Bai.”
“Yeah, yeah…”
Listening to the chirping discussions of the girls around her, Ye Ying remained expressionless. Recalling the dessert that had remained untouched on the table that day, she thought, He didn’t even eat it. Delicious my foot!
After having to explain for the thirty-fifth time that she truly did not know the esteemed Young Master Bai and had only seen him while working part-time, Ye Ying was thoroughly convinced that she had unilaterally clashed with Bai Xi. The lofty Young Master of the Bai family would never know how much trouble his casual remark would cause for someone else!
Bai Xi, who assumed she already held a grudge against the female lead because of the eighty-thousand-yuan incident, felt nothing. She aimlessly wandered around the campus, looking at the signposts.
Due to Madam Bai’s arrangements, Bai Xi would not be boarding at the school but would be living in a nearby villa district. Bai Xi herself hadn’t even brought her textbooks, as Steward Ye had reportedly already arranged for them to be placed in Bai Xi’s classroom.
Taking advantage of the time when others were settling into their dorms and classrooms, Bai Xi idly wandered the campus, getting used to her living environment for the foreseeable future.
“Damn it! One Yu Mo isn’t enough, and now there’s another damn Young Master Bai! Hell, they’re all pretty boys. What’s so great about them?!”
Faint sounds drifted from not far away. Bai Xi narrowed her eyes and stopped, quietly retreating behind a nearby willow tree. There seemed to be several people there. Besides the initial overly excited voice cursing Yu Mo and herself, there were a few accompanying voices of agreement.
“I heard that Young Master Bai is some kind of sickly person, a weakling. The Bai family is really careless, putting such a sick person in this school. Are they afraid this weakling will live too long?” Another voice was particularly shrill, standing out awkwardly among the messy sounds.
Hmm? Bai Xi stood silently behind the significantly thick willow tree, listening to the group’s unrestrained conversation not far away. What was wrong with this school? Didn’t they say this was the best aristocratic school in City Y? Were there some secrets? Who were these people discussing her and the male lead behind their backs? If these were Nan Luo High School students, Bai Xi would truly have to question the school’s quality.
“We don’t know when our boss will be back. Once the boss returns, we’ll go and ‘greet’ this Young Master Bai and let him know that even if the King of Heaven himself were here, he’d have to be obedient to our boss in this school!”
The heated discussion continued inside. Bai Xi quietly left the willow tree, filled with questions. What was going on? Why did this sound like an organized gang activity?
“Meow~”
Just as Bai Xi was thinking of going back to properly ask 002 if it had forgotten to tell her anything, 002, as if sensing her thoughts, meowed from inside the backpack, finally waking up.
The sudden silence made Bai Xi’s scalp prickle. She looked down at 002, who was poking its head out of the backpack in her arms, and the corner of her mouth twitched. She suddenly felt like eating cat meat.
“Brother Jin, someone’s standing here! He must have heard everything we just said!”
Bai Xi’s worries had finally materialized. Watching 002 quietly retract its head, she looked up at the group of people around her, who were wearing Nan Luo Affiliated High School uniforms and had hostile expressions. Bai Xi thought, I’m finished.
“Another pretty boy! Why are there so many pretty boys lately?” The shrill voice belonged to a small, skinny person with dyed yellow hair and pointed features. He was likely going through puberty, his voice so sharp it was somewhat torturous to the surrounding ears.
“Heh,” another tall person, nearly six-foot-three and built like a wall, stared coldly at Bai Xi and clenched his fist, which was almost as large as Bai Xi’s face. “Pretty boy, since you heard our conversation, we’re not unreasonable people. You have two paths. One: Join us as our subordinate, be available whenever we call, pay us protection money every week, and we brothers will look out for you. Two: You can talk sense with our fists. Pretty boy, you choose!”
Bai Xi: …
Bai Xi didn’t know what to say. In both lives combined, she had lived for over forty years, and this was truly the first time Bai Xi had encountered such a idiotic statement. For a moment, she wasn’t angry but felt a sense of novelty, even a hint of self-reflection.
Could it be that when I was young and arrogant, in my own ‘Middle Schooler Syndrome’ phase, I also made such idiotic remarks?
Tsk, the mere thought of it was so embarrassing that she felt like her toes were trying to dig out a three-bedroom apartment!
