The School Beauty from the Next Class Insisted I Confess - Chapter 35
“Is it the kind of liking a lover has?”
Xia Yiqiu sensed something was amiss. Why did Xu Daizi (blockhead) look so serious?
“No, it’s the kind for a friend.”
How could I admit it? Xu Qingfeng smiled in relief.
This bracelet will be yours eventually. If I admit it now, what would I say when I give it to you that day? Will it make things awkward between us and stop us from keeping in touch?
Xu Qingfeng spoke very frankly, and Xia Yiqiu had no reason to disbelieve her. A friend is fine.
Ignoring Xu Qingfeng’s hint of worry, they arrived at the arcade!
As soon as they walked in, they saw Gao Zhi and Liang Hao having a blast on the dance machine.
Liang Hao even took a moment to glance at their clasped hands.
Hmm, very good. This head of the fan club is very satisfied.
Liang Hao hadn’t posted much in the “Xu Ni Qiufeng Fan Club” group lately. She felt that everything was self-evident. They were too adorable to discuss further; she was utterly captivated.
Xu Qingfeng took Xia Yiqiu to the claw machine. With reliable calculation and super-steady technique, she successfully won a cute cat plushie for Xia Yiqiu.
“Should we call her Xiao Mi (Little Meow)?” Xia Yiqiu joked.
Can I call her Xiao Xia (Little Xia)? Xu Qingfeng wondered internally.
“No, you can’t.”
The words slipped out, and Xia Yiqiu heard Xu Qingfeng’s comment.
“Alright then.”
“Yiqiu, are you free tomorrow?” Xu Qingfeng looked at Xia Yiqiu, her eyes full of expectation.
Looking at Xia Yiqiu, who was holding the plushie, Xu Qingfeng felt transported back to the Mid-Autumn Festival. The only difference was that the girl in front of her was wearing a khaki trench coat, a matching beret, brown leather boots with long white socks, and a small leather crossbody bag.
Compared to the bright beauty of that day, today’s Xia Yiqiu looked very sweet and well-behaved. Except for the aura she had just now in the jewelry store, which completely broke that persona.
The cute and innocent Xiao Xia hugged the cat plushie, blinking her large eyes as she stared at Xu Qingfeng.
“What’s up? I’m free.”
Do you want to ask me out? I’ll reluctantly agree.
“Let’s go visit Qiqi!”
Xu Qingfeng had wanted to visit Qiqi for a long time, but lately, her weekends were tied up with either rehearsals or her leg injury. So much time had passed; the little girl was probably getting impatient.
“Okay!”
Xia Yiqiu revealed a gentle smile, tightening her embrace around the cat plushie. The girl and the doll were both nodding at Xu Qingfeng.
Xia Yiqiu had dried the rose from the Mid-Autumn Festival and pressed it into a book. She was willing to call Qiqi a Cupid of love, or at least the one for her and Xu Qingfeng.
“I’ll pick you up tomorrow morning.” Xu Qingfeng’s heart blossomed when her invitation was accepted.
“Don’t be late, Driver Xu,” Xia Yiqiu said, once again linking her arm with Xu Qingfeng’s. She held the plushie with her other hand.
“When have I ever been late!”
Xu Qingfeng guaranteed that for anything involving Yiqiu, she would check everything multiple times.
When they found Gao Zhi and Liang Hao, the two were sitting dejectedly.
This was unexpected. Shouldn’t at least one of them be happy?
“What’s wrong with you two?” Xia Yiqiu first asked her normally energetic deskmate.
“Wuu wuu.” Liang Hao didn’t want to talk.
“Wuu wuu.” Gao Zhi was equally miserable and slung her arm around Xu Qingfeng’s neck.
“It’s awful!”
This was Gao Zhi’s and Liang Hao’s inner monologue.
Xia Yiqiu briefly watched Gao Zhi. Her previous thought was correct; she always lacked a sense of boundary.
But our President Xia’s double standards were unparalleled. At this very moment, Liang Hao’s arm was draped over her neck.
The story had to start from when the two of them left.
The Confrontation
Gao Zhi and Liang Hao were fiercely competing, roaring that they were the “Wèi Chéng High School Gaming King.” They were so engrossed in their competition and yelling that they attracted the attention of a regular at the racing games.
A girl with short silver hair appeared before them. She had three piercings in each ear, studded with black diamonds that sparkled even in the dim light. She looked wild and unrestrained, chewing on a lollipop. She was wearing a Japanese-style JK uniform, but it was worn haphazardly.
What a non-mainstream girl! She was a bit short, barely 160 cm, but somehow looked cool and cute.
“Hey, were you two the ones just calling yourselves the ‘Wèi Chéng High School Gaming King’?”
She planted a foot on the dance machine. Clearly, the girl was also a student at Wèi Chéng High School and was highly skeptical of their self-proclaimed title.
The newcomer meant trouble! Gao Zhi and Liang Hao exchanged a look.
Don’t let Gao Zhi’s tall stature fool you; she’s actually a well-behaved follower of Xu Qingfeng and couldn’t say a word at the moment.
“Yes, that was us!”
Liang Hao declared, glancing at the useless Gao Zhi. When things happen, Sister Liang has to step up.
“Alright, let’s compete! You can pick any game in this arcade; I can do it all.”
The opponent casually put her hands in her pockets, lifted her chin to look at them, and pointed a finger. She was so chuunibyou (cringey and theatrical), yet so dominant.
“Then I choose the dance machine.”
Liang Hao thought she was being clever. After all that practice, she should be more agile than the person in front of her.
The game started, and Liang Hao realized she had been careless. Is this person a speed demon? Liang Hao felt her opponent’s speed was unnatural.
After losing 1-0, Liang Hao demanded a rematch, which resulted in a 2-0 defeat. She was completely convinced of her opponent’s skill.
After the two rounds, the girl pointed at Gao Zhi and said, “Your turn, continue.”
“Me?” Can I do it?
Having watched the match between her opponent and Liang Hao, Gao Zhi thought the girl was very strong. Gao Zhi looked at the girl and pointed a finger at herself in doubt, full of self-distrust.
“A noob, then forget it.” The girl made to leave.
These words instantly sparked Little Gao’s competitive spirit.
“Come on, let’s play.”
Gao Zhi stepped onto the dance machine. How dare you call me a noob? I’m going to crush you!
The girl’s lips curved into an arch in the dark, which immediately disappeared.
Three rounds later, Gao Zhi had zero wins and was utterly defeated.
She was even less willing to admit defeat than Liang Hao and insisted on a best-of-five, but she lost completely in just three rounds.
As the girl left, she dropped a final line.
“Remember, I am Kong Qiaofeng, the Wèi Chéng High School Gaming King!”
Feeling disheartened, their expressions withered like flowers past their prime. The excitement Gao Zhi and Liang Hao had felt since stepping into the arcade lasted only half an hour before ending. They both sat in their seats, contemplating life.
We should have stopped after one game. Why embarrass ourselves further?
Group Consolidation
Xu Qingfeng couldn’t help but want to laugh after hearing the fragmented account. These two had met their match.
“Alright, don’t be sad. Keep up the good work!”
Xu Qingfeng said to Gao Zhi.
Gao Zhi rolled her eyes in response.
“What do you know, Xu Daizi? That was talent—terrifying talent.” So terrifying, I shiver just thinking about it.
“Is she that scary?”
Xu Qingfeng’s curiosity was piqued. She really wanted to meet this “delinquent girl.” In fact, she wondered more deeply: Does Wèi Chéng High School really have a student like this?
Although Wèi Chéng High School wasn’t a school in a major city, it was regionally renowned for its competition successes, easily ranking in the top ten of the province. To get into Wèi Chéng High School, one’s academic performance had to be excellent.
Furthermore, Wèi Chéng High School had strict management. Would they really permit the appearance of a “white-haired girl”? After much thought, it didn’t make sense.
This girl is quite a mystery, Xu Qingfeng mused.
Xia Yiqiu’s way of comforting them was more unique.
“Haohao, should I take you to eat that new small cake? How about that?”
Isn’t that too much like coaxing a child? Liang Hao doesn’t seem like that kind of person, Xu Qingfeng slightly doubted.
“Let’s go, let’s go.”
Liang Hao was indeed easily appeased, and she was just as greedy as Gao Zhi.
This coaxed Gao Zhi as well. “I want to go too!”
Now, neither of them was depressed anymore.
Xia Yiqiu showed a saintly, Virgin Mary-like smile. “Okay, let’s go.” She looped her arm through Xu Qingfeng’s.
“What are you thinking, Xu Daizi? Let’s go.”
Xu Qingfeng was pulled forward by Xia Yiqiu’s pace. For a split second, Xu Qingfeng felt like she might have truly seen an angel.
The walk to buy desserts went smoothly. As evening approached, they all went home. Actually, Gao Zhi didn’t go back with Xia Yiqiu; instead, she went to Xu Qingfeng’s house.
She had said she couldn’t stand being alone this weekend, and her mother, Mrs. Yan, had wanted to see her a few days ago. When Gao Zhi called that morning to say she was coming for two nights, Mrs. Yan warmly welcomed her.
As for Xu Qingfeng’s opinion? Did she even have a say?
She could only surrender.
The Xu residence had many rooms, but Gao Zhi said she was scared and insisted on sharing a bed with Xu Qingfeng. Xu Qingfeng didn’t mind; they had been like two peas in a pod since childhood, and when their mothers were busy, they often sent their children to stay at the other’s house.
“Xu Qingfeng, who are you chatting with?”
Gao Zhi was lying comfortably in bed. Hmm, it was the familiar smell, the familiar bed, but her blockhead friend was sitting on a chair, sending who knows what. Wasn’t this blockhead usually reading before bed?
Xu Qingfeng paused her typing, not intending to hide it from Gao Zhi.
“I’m discussing with Yiqiu what to buy for Qiqi when we visit the orphanage tomorrow.”
Whenever Xu Qingfeng mentioned Xia Yiqiu and Qiqi, her entire expression softened. Someone who didn’t know them might think they were her wife and daughter.
“Oh, that little girl.”
Xu Qingfeng had later told Gao Zhi about that night, and Gao Zhi exclaimed, “I missed out!”
If Little Gao had been there, she would have bought all of the little girl’s flowers. She, Gao Zhi, was a fool with money—no, a wise person with money.
“Then you won’t be home tomorrow?”
Gao Zhi suddenly realized she had come to Xu Qingfeng’s house precisely so she wouldn’t be alone over the weekend. What would she do if Xu Qingfeng went out tomorrow?
“Probably not.”
The orphanage was quite far from here. Their idea was to spend time with Qiqi, and then head straight to school for self-study in the evening.
Gao Zhi only thought for a second before offering her idea.
“I want to go too.”
Xu Qingfeng considered this again. Bringing Gao Zhi wasn’t a problem, as more people caring for Qiqi and the other children would be better.
“I’ll discuss it with Yiqiu.”
Xu Qingfeng felt that for anything, she needed Yiqiu’s consent.
“Go ahead, go ahead.”
Gao Zhi lay down with her legs sprawled out again. This bed was so comfortable!
On her phone, Xia Yiqiu had been waiting for a long time for Xu Qingfeng to reply. She was staring at the dried rose in her book. The book was on her desk, and she would open it and look at it when she had nothing to do.
The screen lit up; a message had arrived. Xia Yiqiu picked it up to read.
Xu Qingfeng: Yiqiu, Gao Zhi wants to come tomorrow too. What do you think?
Xia Yiqiu: That’s fine.
Xia Yiqiu and Xu Qingfeng shared the same thought. They didn’t see this as a date. It was more important to have more people go and care for Qiqi and the others.
Xia Yiqiu: Why don’t we ask the members of our Psychology Club if anyone else wants to go? We can organize it; it would be a great club activity.
Xia Yiqiu thought that the more people, the better.
Xu Qingfeng: That makes sense! Yiqiu, you’re so smart.
In Xia Yiqiu’s mind, a picture automatically formed of a sweet, obedient white Samoyed begging for praise.
Xia Yiqiu: Not at all. I’ll go ask.
Xu Qingfeng: Mhmm.
The Psychology Club Group Chat
Xia Yiqiu: @All Members, who would like to visit the “Wèi Chéng Sunshine” Orphanage tomorrow? President Xu and I will be departing at 8:00 AM tomorrow. Members who are interested are welcome to sign up with me.
Liang Hao: Me!
Han Feng: Me!
Member A B C: Me!
Excluding members who were busy, a total of fifty people signed up. The members were enthusiastic about this positive and meaningful event.
This semester, the Psychology Club members had helped many students. This wasn’t just to complete club tasks; they also gained a great sense of accomplishment in the process. Doing good things can be addictive.
In the “Xu Ni Qiufeng Fan Club,” there was great excitement: Tomorrow is another day for up-close shipping! Those who couldn’t go lamented.
Liang Hao looked at everyone’s comments with disdain.
Heh, up-close shipping. How outdated is that? She, Liang Hao, possessed the highest virtues. She was signing up because she genuinely wanted to help the children.
Alright, she admitted, she’d just had too much of the sugar, and her tolerance level had increased.
Up-close observation? She gets that every single day.
