The School Beauty from the Next Class Insisted I Confess - Chapter 29
Xu Qingfeng and Xia Yiqiu handed their tasks over to Gao Zhi and Liang Hao. Gao Zhi’s high jump competition was in the afternoon, and it was nearly eleven o’clock. It was unlikely Old Head Liu would check attendance, so Class President Xu chose to go home with Xia Yiqiu without guilt.
Gao Zhi interjected glumly, “Aren’t you guys going to care about me, the one who is also soaked?”
Silence again.
“Isn’t your home nearby too? If you really want to dry your clothes, just go home yourself. Right, Han Feng?” Liang Hao began to smooth things over, addressing Han Feng, who sat in the desk behind Gao Zhi.
Han Feng caught the look and gave a nod, reassuring her that he had things under control.
“That’s right, Gao Zhi. I don’t mind taking over your jurisdiction.”
Gao Zhi bristled. “What are you thinking, Han Feng? I’m the Sports Representative!!!”
The rain had a mind of its own, making it unpredictable and teasing people’s moods.
Xu Qingfeng was exasperated looking at the rain, which was belatedly beginning to ease, but this also brought some convenience. Just as she was able to ride her bicycle to school in the morning’s drizzle, she and Xia Yiqiu could do the same now on their way back.
Looking at the clamor in front of her, Xu Qingfeng chose to sneak away quietly.
“Yiqiu, I’m going to get the bike first,” she told Xia Yiqiu.
“Mhm, I’ll wait for you by the teaching building.” The person in front of her let her leave with peace of mind.
A short time later, she found Xia Yiqiu waiting below the teaching building.
“Why aren’t you holding an umbrella?” Xu Qingfeng asked with concern.
Xia Yiqiu immediately sat on the back of the bicycle, skillfully wrapping her arms around the person’s waist. Since Xu Qingfeng was only wearing a single long-sleeved shirt today, the curvature of her abs was clearly felt through the soaked clothing, which put Xia Yiqiu in a good mood.
“You didn’t hold one either. Come on, let’s just go back and dry them together.”
Xia Yiqiu patted the front person’s abdomen with the hand wrapped around her waist, but Xu Qingfeng’s ears didn’t turn red. She didn’t even realize anything was amiss.
I need to ride quickly. It doesn’t matter if I catch a cold, but Yiqiu must not get sick.
Xu Qingfeng avoided one puddle after another on the wet road, controlling the bicycle with seasoned stability, not allowing any sign of imbalance or tipping over. This was accompanied by the bicycle’s rapid speed.
The students who had snuck out early, unable to endure watching the competition until the end, couldn’t help but marvel at the sight.
“That student is really amazing, riding so fast with a passenger in the rain.”
That student turned back and was still riding slowly. In fact, that student’s approach was the most commendable; safety first, always.
Fortunately, Xu Qingfeng had great faith in her skills, and she did indeed deliver Xia Yiqiu home in an extremely short time, though ordinarily, she would never attempt such a speed, preferring to go slower.
“Yiqiu, we’re here,” Xu Qingfeng told Xia Yiqiu on the back seat. She felt a little nervous as the moment arrived. This time was different; they were going inside, and how should she handle meeting Yiqiu’s elders inside? Xu Qingfeng had always been afraid of awkwardness.
Perhaps sensing Xu Qingfeng’s tension, after Xu Qingfeng had parked the bicycle, Xia Yiqiu took her hand and spoke softly.
“Qingfeng, are you scared?”
“No.”
What was Xu Qingfeng scared of? It wasn’t like she was meeting her parents, yet what difference was there? She couldn’t help but curl her toes inside her shoes, trying not to reveal her fear.
“Haha, I won’t tease you anymore. Aside from Aunt Li, there’s usually no one else at my house.” When they talked a few days ago, Xia Yiqiu’s parents were still on vacation across the ocean.
“Phew.” Xu Qingfeng relaxed. “Then let’s go in. Don’t catch a cold.”
“Mhm.” The girl thus led the ‘intruder’ into her boudoir, an act commonly known as bringing the wolf into the house.
The two walked into the ground floor of the house. Aunt Li wasn’t there; it was usually her resting time since Xia Yiqiu didn’t come home for lunch.
“I’ll go get you a drink.” Xia Yiqiu asked Xu Qingfeng to wait in the living room while she went to the kitchen to grab some things to take upstairs.
Xu Qingfeng sat obediently and heard footsteps coming from upstairs, only they were a bit noisy, stepping down one by one.
It must be Aunt Li, whom Yiqiu often mentions. She said Aunt Li’s late-night snacks are delicious. I should greet her properly later. Xu Qingfeng stood up from her seat.
“Hello, Aunt Li.”
“Baby, surprise.”
Xu Qingfeng stared blankly at the young, beautiful, gentle, yet vibrant woman in front of her, who was opening her arms to her. Next to her stood a handsome middle-aged man.
Who is this? An explorer? Why is a hiker in Yiqiu’s house? Someone save me.
Xia Yiqiu happened to come out of the kitchen, placed the food in her hand on the table, and swiftly dashed into the woman’s arms.
“Mom, Dad, why are you back?” Xia Yiqiu’s tone was very happy as she rushed into the woman’s embrace. It had been months since she last saw her free-spirited parents, who loved freedom.
So it’s her parents, Xu Qingfeng sighed in relief. I thought a thief had gotten in.
Wait, how could it be her parents? I just called her ‘Aunt Li.’ Won’t my aunt and uncle be unhappy? Xu Qingfeng was inwardly conflicted.
How could children not love their parents, and parents feel the same toward their children?
Xia Mom had wanted to come back and see Xia Yiqiu since the last incident, but her and Xia Dad’s jungle exploration activities hadn’t finished. Those like-minded business partners wouldn’t allow them to leave early.
Thinking of giving Xia Yiqiu a surprise, as soon as the activity ended, Xia Mom dragged Xia Dad directly onto a plane back to Weicheng, not even having time to change clothes.
“Baby, who is this?” Xia Mom, Deng Jun, asked her precious daughter.
Xu Qingfeng felt nervous seeing herself being mentioned.
“This is my very, very good friend, Xu Qingfeng.” Xia Yiqiu stepped out of Xia Mom’s embrace and led Xu Qingfeng to them.
Xu Qingfeng’s face, pale from the rain, was now flushed pink.
“Hello, Auntie,” she bowed to Ms. Deng Jun in greeting.
“Hello, Uncle,” she turned sideways and bowed to Xia Dad, Xia Zhengtin, as well.
Ms. Deng Jun immediately took Xu Qingfeng’s hand and exclaimed, “What a good child, and so pretty.”
Xia Dad nodded alongside her. His wife was right; this child was polite.
“Xu Qingfeng?” Ms. Deng Jun recalled something.
“Are you the little hero friend you mentioned to me last time?” Xia Mom asked. She had a deep impression of that child. Her precious daughter kept praising that classmate in video chats afterward. Xia Mom’s favorable impression of this classmate was almost full even before meeting her.
“Yes, Mom, Qingfeng is amazing. She even protected me.” Xia Yiqiu flirted with her mother, emphasizing Xu Qingfeng’s goodness again, increasing the favorable impression of her beloved.
“Heroes emerge from youth! This young friend is a true heroine, not inferior to men.” Xia Dad exclaimed, even more pleased with the girl in front of him. The two girls in front of him—it would be nice if both were his daughters. He had naturally heard about the incident from his wife.
Xia Yiqiu looked at the motionless Xu Qingfeng, knowing her dummy’s tension.
“Mom, we had a sports meet today, and Qingfeng stayed with me, so we are both completely soaked. We’re going upstairs to dry our clothes first.” Xia Yiqiu completely omitted the fact that they got soaked from tumbling on the ground.
Gao Zhi was obviously not as badly soaked as the two of them, which was why Gao Zhi gave up on going home to dry his clothes. After taking off his waterproof sportswear jacket, Gao Zhi was dry and clean underneath, unlike them, who were so wet that water droplets were dripping and they looked miserable.
Xia Mom finally came back to her senses. When she first met her, she wanted to ask where this poor, soaking wet child standing in her house came from. Now, she realized that even her own clothes had wet marks from touching Xia Yiqiu’s wet clothes.
“You child, what are you chatting for? Hurry up and go dry off with your classmate. What if you catch a cold?” This time, it was genuine motherly concern. Xia Mom’s attitude was firm as she shooed them upstairs.
Xia Mom didn’t know where she called Aunt Li from. Aunt Li was actually in the other living room but hadn’t been noticed. She had clearly seen all these conversations.
“Aunt Li, please go to the wardrobe and find a set of brand-new, clean clothes for that young friend.”
Ms. Deng Jun’s tone carried affection. She quite liked the child, found her very pleasing to the eye, and liked her more the more she looked.
After Xia Yiqiu and Xu Qingfeng arrived at Xia Yiqiu’s room upstairs, Xu Qingfeng’s stiff movements noticeably relaxed.
Finally saved. This heart-stopping, circuitous conversation—Xu Qingfeng considered herself a good problem solver, but facing the parents of the person she liked, she was still helpless.
“Little bookworm, snap out of it.” Xia Yiqiu leaned in, smiling at Xu Qingfeng. Class President Xu is so cute.
She was very satisfied with Xu Qingfeng’s behavior in front of her parents. The more you care, the more nervous you are. If Xu Qingfeng had greeted them completely at ease, she would have even doubted whether the person in front of her truly liked her.
“Oh,” Xu Qingfeng said. “Yiqiu, you should go take a shower quickly.” She could just blow-dry her clothes afterward.
“Hahahahaha, dummy, you’re not embarrassed to shower in my room now that you’re here, are you?” Xia Yiqiu genuinely thought the person in front of her was silly.
“No.” She honestly hadn’t thought about taking a shower; blowing them dry would be enough.
Xu Dad’s education had always been military-style strict. When she was little, Xu Dad made her train physically, even in the rain. Only after Xu Dad changed units could she be a quiet child and focus on reading. Precisely because of this, now that she was older, she felt restless if she didn’t exercise daily.
“Let’s go, don’t worry. You go to the guest room next door. Change out of these wet clothes quickly. I’ll ask Aunt Li to send you clothes later.” Xia Yiqiu pulled Xu Qingfeng, intending to take her to the guest room.
“Knock, knock, knock, Yiqiu.”
Aunt Li knocked outside. Although the Xia family was wealthy, they didn’t have many rules or fuss. They hired Aunt Li as a housekeeper for daily cooking, laundry, and cleanup, with other hourly workers coming periodically for cleaning. They also didn’t use titles like “Miss” or “Madam”; normal addresses were fine.
Xia Yiqiu opened the door. “What is it, Aunt Li?”
“These are what Ms. Deng said to give to that classmate.”
Aunt Li handed a brand-new set of long-sleeved shirt and pants to Xia Yiqiu, thoughtfully including underwear, etc. Xia Mom would periodically purchase clothes and keep them at home. Xia Yiqiu didn’t like shopping, so her clothes were all bought by Xia Mom. Xu Qingfeng and Xia Yiqiu had similar builds, so Xia Mom figured they would fit.
As for Xia Yiqiu, she had clothes in her own room.
“Thank you, Aunt Li.” Xia Yiqiu pushed Xu Qingfeng into the guest room next door and shoved the clothes into her arms.
“Take these and go wash up immediately,” she said, before going to the room next door.
Xu Qingfeng sighed and followed her instruction.
She slowly entered the bathroom. The two bathrooms were separated only by one wall. She vaguely heard Xia Yiqiu in the next room taking off her clothes and running the water.
This room is not soundproof!
