- Chapter 16 - Tumultuous Days
Outside the window, tree shadows were dappled, and the sound of frogs came from the pond. There was no traffic noise. The Mid-Autumn Festival was the day after tomorrow, and tonight the moon was bright.
The environment in the large compound was excellent; there was a pond right outside the wall. Xu Qingfeng opened the window, looked at the moon, rested her chin in her hand, and reminisced.
The bright moonlight shone on her cheek. The young girl was thinking of the person she loved.
She shouldn’t have let go this morning.
A feeling of regret spread, yet it couldn’t change reality.
She crossed out the messy words in her diary.
Now, it was time to think about the plot for the drama.
The first draft of the script for The Silent Quarrel was finished two hours later. At half-past eleven, Xu Qingfeng went to bed, first taking photos of the script’s contents and sending them to the editorial department group chat.
@All Members, here is the script I wrote. Please take a look and see if there are any areas that need improvement.
After typing, she fell asleep, leaving the lively club members behind.
Tonight was another sleepless night.
Such good news naturally couldn’t be kept private, so in the “Xu Ni Qiufeng” support group:
Member ABC: @All Members, look what good stuff we have! A script personally written by our Minister!
Followed by several photos.
Han Feng: Finally! The script for which this director has been waiting has appeared!!!
Liang Hao: Director Han, take a close look at the script. There’s absolutely no room for you to shine.
Psychological Society’s Little Tyrant: Not bad, it really suits our club’s style.
Qingxia My CP: Little Tyrant, what do you mean? The main group is next door.
Xia Miao My Mom: Exactly! This is our sweet-shipping headquarters. @Han Feng, quickly unleash your talent.
Han Feng glanced at the script, feeling a bit helpless. This was going to be tough for this director; the story began with characters separated by life and death. How was he supposed to adapt it?
The Silent Quarrel tells a story of mutual salvation between Female Lead (Fu Qingfeng) and Female Secondary (Shen Yiqiu).
Don’t assume there are any romantic moments to ship just because it’s about salvation. The female lead is a student and the female secondary is a teacher. The story depicts the female lead being forced to drop out of school due to long-term family quarrels and eventually committing suicide. The female lead’s parents falsely accuse the female secondary of causing the female lead’s depression and suicide.
Slander spreads, and the female secondary is forced to resign. However, she only regrets that she couldn’t discover her student’s distress earlier, and she doesn’t resent the female lead’s death for costing her job. She only despises those devilish parents.
The female secondary ultimately uncovers the truth. Only then do people realize that the female secondary had a similar experience to the female lead when she was young, yet she maintained an optimistic outlook on life and grew up strong and resilient. When the truth about the female lead’s death is revealed, the deepest shadow in her heart finally dissipates.
Xu Qingfeng likely intended to express the importance of home education for students, but her favoritism in the script was all for Xia Yiqiu.
Yiqiu is so beautiful, she naturally deserves more screen time.
What Han Feng hadn’t anticipated was that his straight-male mindset had limited him.
Qing Wang My Dad: Han Feng doesn’t even need to use his talent! A teacher-student dynamic? How could this setting not be shippable!
Xia Miao My Mom: A fellow shipper with good taste! I hadn’t realized it at first.
Liang Hao: +1.
…
Member ABC: Actually, everyone, our Minister shared this to gather suggestions for revisions. scared emoji.
Liang Hao: Why didn’t you three say so earlier?! cursing emoji.
Liang Hao: I think we could add a scene at the end: the female lead’s ghost talking to the female secondary, recounting her secret crush, and making a promise for the next life. Hehe.
Han Feng: Liang Hao, stop fantasizing. The school won’t let you perform that. But the ghost dialogue could work.
Qing Wang My Dad: Didn’t you guys notice the few crossed-out lines in the upper right corner of the first picture?
Xu Qingfeng made a huge mistake. Overcome by drowsiness, she forgot about the scrapped poem she had crossed out and accidentally included it in the picture.
A kind soul spent a few minutes carefully deciphering and piecing together the complete content.
It was none other than the class monitor during the flag-raising ceremony, the one also called “Qingxia’s Son.”
Qingxia’s Son: Praise me! I spotted it right away. Here is the annotated version.
I am lost in the self-space of the dark night, peering into your trajectory. I have never expressed the moment of our meeting or the instant my heart was yours Because it is blurred, I cannot recall the specific time. —Xu Qingfeng
Xu Qingfeng still loves to sign her name, except for that time when Xia Yiqiu picked it up.
The group immediately erupted, with heated discussions. Everyone linked these words to Xia Yiqiu, but no one truly believed they were about Xia Yiqiu, thinking it was just a quote Xu Qingfeng had copied.
You might think, “I’ve never heard of these words, she must have written them herself.”
Your heart provides your own answer.
The straight-A student likes to read; who knows which book they came from?
As the old saying goes, people can go without eating, but they cannot go without shipping. This quote is from Liang Hao.
Liang Hao made no comment; her silence was deafening.
Liang Hao, who knew the truth, put down her late-night snack. Her parents saw how hard she had been studying recently and cared deeply, hence the late-night snack.
Well, I can now confirm that these two absolutely like each other. Previously, she was only sure that Xia Yiqiu showed interest, but she couldn’t figure out the true feelings of Xu Qingfeng, who was dubbed a “bookworm,” until she saw this short poem.
Liang Hao had an epiphany.
Alas, she still couldn’t say anything. Since the parties involved hadn’t confessed, she dared not get involved recklessly.
But she was determined to hold the title of the number one matchmaker.
At the wedding, she would sit at the main table.
If the people in the group knew Liang Hao’s thoughts, who would complain?
No one. In the eyes of CP fans, this progress was not slow.
In the early morning, Xu Qingfeng was the first to arrive at the classroom. Since buying the car, her speed getting to school had increased significantly. Naturally, she couldn’t wait for the last-minute arrival, Gao Zhi, and she also didn’t see any other students. This showed just how early she used to leave home.
Taking time to review her textbooks, there was still no one else.
Xu Qingfeng truly couldn’t think of anything to do.
Let’s see what suggestions they provided.
What is this?
My draft was photographed and sent.
She pondered, then gave up the struggle.
Anyway, they don’t know who I wrote about. It doesn’t matter.
It does matter! What if Yiqiu sees it?
She sighed in relief again. Fortunately, it was only posted in the editorial department.
“Haha, you naive child.” Han Feng walked into the classroom with dark circles under his eyes and weak, unsteady legs, looking exactly like someone whose vital essence had been sucked out by a succubus. This was a testament to how long The Silent Quarrel had been discussed, along with those few lines of poetry.
Xu Qingfeng greeted him and ignored Han Feng’s resentful expression, then looked further down the thread.
Member ABC had submitted Liang Hao’s suggestion according to Han Feng’s idea. Checking the time, it was five hours ago.
These guys are night owls, aren’t they?
Xu Qingfeng was confused, yet she thought the idea was good and would deepen the audience’s impression.
In fact, they had argued until the end, with no one convincing the other—except for Liang Hao, because she was the group owner. As for the romantic bits, they would rely on Han Feng’s talent.
The members had fallen asleep five hours ago. Han Feng, worried sick, had only managed to doze off three hours ago.
Han Feng declared that he never wanted to pull an all-nighter again. Today, he felt like he was fighting his eyelids.
He admitted that when it came to romance, this director was useless! He simply couldn’t come up with a solution.
He could only stare at Xu Qingfeng resentfully. Whose fault was it for writing the script?
With Old Liu at the door, Han Feng didn’t dare close his eyes. Xu Qingfeng, while leading the class in reading on the stage, also caught Han Feng’s gaze.
It was chilling and intense. He was very strange.
Han Feng wasn’t the only strange one.
That noon, Xu Qingfeng and Xia Yiqiu were on duty at the club. To ensure safety, Ms. Du stipulated that the two must be on duty together.
Why were they on duty together? Logically, the two presidents should be separated. Aside from the support group’s influence, it was, of course, at the behest of our great President Xia.
Her acting during lunch a few days ago was superb. Xia Yiqiu gave herself a thumbs-up.
That afternoon.
“Qingfeng, the scheduling chart for the publicity department is ready. We’re on the same shift! What a coincidence,” Xia Yiqiu turned the screen toward Xu Qingfeng.
The shrimp that the person next to her was holding fell off their chopsticks.
“Really? That’s great,” Xu Qingfeng believed her, her eyes crinkling into happy slits.
Liang Hao, sitting opposite them, was full of unspoken comments.
Heh, the tricks of a young couple. Keep pretending, both of you.
She suddenly felt that eating sweet things up close was also a pain; too much sweetness turns into dog food.
These two had both hinted to her, one after the other, to put their shifts together. Her job as a matchmaker was already done. Given how proactive the two were, the Head of the Publicity Department felt her role might not be very important.
I need to distance myself from these two. Distance creates beauty. I’m genuinely afraid of getting so sick of them that I become an anti-fan.
So, from that day on, Liang Hao made sure to finish her lunch the fastest and then escape to the library.
Xu Qingfeng had planned to chat with Xia Yiqiu and spend a lovely noon together. She had to admit, being in the club was much more convenient for speaking freely than the library, where she used to spend her lunch breaks.
However, with a “bang,” Gao Zhi burst in, rushing straight toward Xia Yiqiu.
There was a chair in front of the table where the two were sitting. Gao Zhi sat down and began to pour out his woes.
“Great President Xia, you have to save me! I’ve been depressed lately.”
“You? Depressed?” Xu Qingfeng didn’t believe him.
“Seriously, I’m going crazy,” Gao Zhi ran his hands through his hair.
Xu Qingfeng thought there might really be something wrong, but Gao Zhi’s fake sobbing and wailing seemed unnecessary.
“Alright, shut up and state your case,” Xu Qingfeng couldn’t stand the noise and coldly stopped Gao Zhi’s antics.
Xia Yiqiu found it amusing and watched them.
This side of Xu Qingfeng was quite rare.
Xu, the Great Judge?
“No, only Great President Xia can save me,” Gao Zhi only stared at Xia Yiqiu.
“Stop looking and just talk. She can hear you,” Xu Qingfeng’s tone showed displeasure.
What are you looking at? Look at my Yiqiu.
“Okay, so here’s what happened. Li Tian said she would never talk to me again… You have to save me, Great President Xia. I really didn’t do anything bad,” Gao Zhi whined pitifully.
It turned out that Gao Zhi had said he would live-stream himself studying and had actually done it, but it only lasted for a few days before his laziness returned. Last night during the live stream, seeing that Li Tian wasn’t on the screen, he secretly played a game—only to be caught in the act.
A calm voice came from the other end of the screen, “Gao Zhi, I’m never going to talk to you again.” Then the screen was turned off.
Gao Zhi thought Li Tian’s tone wasn’t that angry and didn’t take it seriously. However, he hadn’t received any reply to his messages that afternoon, and eventually, he discovered a red question mark when he tried to message her.
She had deleted him.
He hurriedly rushed from home to school to complain, as he remembered the schedule.
“Gao Zhi, it seems you still haven’t understood your initial agreement!” Xu Qingfeng sighed.
Love is never just words; it’s action, it’s your determination. If you’re so easily tempted, how can you talk about the future?
Gao Zhi cried, fussed, and threatened to hurt himself. Xia Yiqiu had no choice; she had to help him ask.
Li Tian had only one reply: Before I come for the exchange, Gao Zhi’s class rank must be in the top 20, or we won’t see each other again after the school exchange ends. Before that, I won’t reply to messages unless he gets into the top 20 early.
Gao Zhi was currently ranked 55th, stably at the bottom of Class 0. He wouldn’t drop out of the class, but a leap of 35 places was incredibly difficult. Every rank above him was a mountain.
To Gao Zhi, however, this was good news. He went home to get his books, planning to study in the library after eating from now on.
Why did he go home? He left too quickly and was wearing summer slippers when he rushed over.
Finally, it was quiet.
These tumultuous days.
