The School Beauty from the Next Class Insisted I Confess - Chapter 14
After taking Xia Yiqiu home, Xu Qingfeng hastily chose lunch. After eating, she rode her bike to the city library to continue reading the marked sections of History of the Southern Ming Dynasty.
She moved a chair and sat in a secluded spot between the bookshelves, which was next to a window with ample light. At first, she read lying down properly, but soon she was curled up, or in the posture of The Thinker sculpture.
Her posture changed with her comfort, which was not something the reader did deliberately.
The depth of history always made people sigh, and this was also why Xu Qingfeng liked it. Compared to the complexity of human nature one had to experience while growing up in reality, she preferred to seek answers in books, where thousands of cycles of choices were recorded.
As the sun set in the west, Xu Qingfeng realized the light for reading was gone, and it was time to leave her seat and return next week.
The reader’s mood had already recovered its peace.
When she got home, Ms. Yan and Father Xu were there. They weren’t pretentious at all, fumbling with some unfamiliar kitchen utensils, planning a heartwarming family dinner. They usually ate at work, while Xu Qingfeng was used to eating at the canteen or cooking for herself.
Xu Qingfeng thought to herself, fortunately, she was lucky.
She picked up her bowl, feeling the rare parental care.
It was too salty.
“You two should stop cooking in the future.”
After eating a bite of greens and another chopstick-full of slightly undercooked white rice, Xu Qingfeng, who usually wasn’t very picky about food, couldn’t take it anymore.
She criticized their cooking in a tone as casual as saying, “The weather is nice today,” and only understood the underlying meaning after thinking about it.
“Hahaha, Old Xu, did you hear what your daughter said?” Ms. Yan Chunhua chuckled. Ms. Yan only knew how to cut fruit and help out.
This tough task couldn’t be pinned on her. Since marrying Old Xu, the cooking was never her job. She was happy to do the post-meal cleaning. In recent years, Old Xu rarely cooked due to his busy schedule, but today he unexpectedly staged a disaster.
The cook finally tasted the dish he stir-fried, his eyebrows tightly furrowed.
“Hmm, it is a bit salty.”
The middle-aged man, who usually had a stern face during the day, hadn’t taken off his apron. His severe expression faded, and he was no different from any parent who cared for their child, even showing a greater sense of importance born of the contrast.
The ingredients at home had been wasted, and for the first time, they let Xu Qingfeng order takeout. It took a while for the security guard to bring it in from the main gate of the compound.
Xu Qingfeng shared what happened today.
“Oh? You are indeed my Xu Zhenzhong’s daughter.”
He originally thought his daughter was just scholarly—good, but lacking spirit.
Today’s performance? She takes after me!
“Why don’t you apply to a military academy? It would be a pity not to go.” It was his long-standing obsession for his child to join the army, and he just mentioned it as usual, having gotten used to being rejected many times.
Xu Qingfeng’s thoughts, however, had changed. She contemplated the value of her existence. From joining the club with selfish motives to gaining insights into life by helping others, perhaps dedication was the meaning of her existence.
“I’ll think about it.”
Xu Qingfeng didn’t say the rest of the sentence. Military academy was impossible, but joining the army during college was an option. She knew that Xia Yiqiu’s dream school was Huada’s Physics Department.
“Not bad. Young people shouldn’t be listless. It’s good that you established this Psychology Club.” Xu Zhenzhong was full of enthusiasm, just like when he usually praised his subordinates. The aura of a man from the military never faded.
Ms. Yan was also relieved. She did notice some details.
“That classmate Xia Yiqiu is a kind child. Is she your friend?”
Upon mentioning Xia Yiqiu, a smile Xu Qingfeng couldn’t hide appeared at the corner of her mouth.
“She is a friend. She is very good.”
There was no one better than her in the whole world.
After such a harmonious dinner, Xu Qingfeng went into her room to do homework and sat for five hours, from six to eleven o’clock. The past two days of homework were finally completed.
She finished washing up at half-past eleven and habitually took out her phone to check messages before going to sleep.
Many people in the small editing group mentioned her.
Club Member A: @Minister, I’m done. Club Member B: @Minister, me too. Club Member C: @Minister, me too. …
Xu Qingfeng thought for a few seconds. Were they imitating Zhang Fei?
She looked at the scripts seriously.
One was about the redemption of a lost girl; another was about a top student falling in love with me and striving for academic excellence; looking at the next one, it was even more outrageous, a text in support of freedom of love. Every single one was inseparable from the element of romance.
Xu Qingfeng: @All members, do you still remember that this is a play about caring for students’ mental health?
Club Member A: I remember. The kind female lead helps the female supporting character regain hope and recognition. It’s very positive.
Xu Qingfeng: Yes, if it weren’t for the final scene of kissing.
Club Member A: Ah, this.
Club Member B: I knew I was the one to rely on. I finished writing yesterday and even modified many details today.
Xu Qingfeng: Are you referring to the top student touching the hand every time they teach a problem in the text?
Club Member B: The plot is designed for winter. What’s wrong with keeping each other warm?
Club Member C: Exactly, exactly, it’s all just camaraderie.
Club Member C didn’t dare to reply and could only secretly agree, after all, she really couldn’t argue. This group was talking about writing something sweet, and she was the most honest one.
Xu Qingfeng: @Club Member C, yours is the most outrageous.
Xu Qingfeng: Alright, you all can rest. I’ll write it. I happen to have inspiration today.
Xu Qingfeng planned to use Li Hua as a prototype to write a play about the impact of family on students’ healthy growth. Today, she had inexplicably asked for Li Hua’s permission, intending to keep it as an alternate, perhaps the heavens knew how unreliable these people were.
Club Member A: Got it, Minister.
Club Member B: Yes, sir.
Club C: Yes, sir. …
Xu Qingfeng rubbed her forehead. Headache.
Xu Ni Qiufeng Support Club was active late at night.
Club Members ABC: Comrades, we have all been passed, crying.jpg.
Han Feng: Don’t be discouraged. I’m still here. Add drama, watch me, the director.
Liang Hao: …
Internet Department President: I said, do you guys know that something big happened today?
Qingxia My CP: ?
Han Feng: ?
Internet Department President: According to unofficial sources, this morning, the President and Vice President went to a classmate’s house and performed a great service. The grade director hurriedly applied to the school, and they will be commended at the school’s flag-raising ceremony next Monday.
Liang Hao: There’s such a thing? I didn’t know.
Internet Department President: There’s much more you don’t know.
Han Feng: Tell me everything!
Internet Department President: No, it’s someone’s privacy, I can’t say. You will know next Monday.
Liang Hao: Tell us quickly!!!
Han Feng: Speak!
My Mom Xia Miao: Speak @Internet Department President.
So many people mentioned him that the Internet Department President felt overwhelmed. I surrender.
Internet Department President: Fine, I’ll only tell you, don’t spread it.
Han Feng: You know, I know, Heaven knows, Earth knows.
Liang Hao: You know, I know, Heaven knows, Earth knows.
Internet Department President: Okay, stop talking. Here’s what happened…
Liang Hao: Holy cow, beauty saving beauty, I’m in love, I’m in love.
Han Feng: This incident really makes me look at the class monitor in a new light. I didn’t see that coming, awesome.
Qingxia My CP: Two beautiful people.
Psychology Club Little Tyrant: Magnificent! My great Psychology Club.
Editing Club Members ABC: Resentment. No wonder the Minister said she had inspiration.
Everyone chatted and joked until the latter half of the night. It was Sunday the next day, who would want to wake up early?
Xu Qingfeng did not go to the library on Sunday and finished reading Notes from the Underground at home, the book she had started last week.
She had a different insight.
She thought, I don’t want to become a malicious person, but I want to become a good person.
The person inside is me, but also not me.
Life is always changing. She put the book away and went to school.
She wasn’t early today. After sitting down in her seat, an excited Gao Zhi shook her hand.
“Qingfeng, I just heard from someone that you guys are going to be commended by the whole school next Monday!”
“What great thing did you do?”
Before she could answer, the dizzy and lifeless Han Feng walked over. He had stayed up too late last night.
“Hmm? Gao Zhi, you don’t know?”
Oh, he remembered, she was blocked by Liang Hao.
Gao Zhi was puzzled, “Know what?”
“Nothing, you just wait for tomorrow.” Han Feng’s tone was calm, but it stirred Gao Zhi’s rebellious spirit.
“Hey, you all know but won’t tell me, that’s too much!” Gao Zhi slammed the table forcefully.
Xu Qingfeng hesitated, then decided against speaking.
During the subsequent evening self-study session, Gao Zhi and Han Feng were locked in a war of words, entangled endlessly.
Han Feng was no longer sleepy.
Xu Qingfeng was in a great mood, humming a little tune in her heart.
Today is another~ good~ day~.
After the evening self-study, she walked Yiqiu home.
