The School Beauty from the Next Class Insisted I Confess - Chapter 12
At ten past eight, Xu Qingfeng saw the class teacher, Liu Li, along with two unfamiliar teachers, at the entrance of the alley.
The reason they dared to decide to get involved yesterday was that they knew, besides Li Hua’s class teacher, the deans of instruction for Grade 1 and Grade 2 would also accompany them today.
The Grade 3 dean of instruction was too busy, and Liu Li, as the Grade 2 dean of instruction and a person who usually favored these two top student candidates—the number one in humanities and sciences—was naturally involved.
The two girls felt secure.
They proactively stepped forward to greet them, “Hello, teachers.” They presented a well-behaved appearance.
One of the accompanying teachers, feeling confused, echoed, “Ah, hello.”
“They are my students,” Liu Li explained.
Liu Li frowned, but his voice still carried the affection he reserved for good students.
“Why are you two here? Aren’t you resting at home on the weekend?”
Xu Qingfeng stepped forward to explain the reason, clarifying that she felt guilty and wanted to understand the situation, bringing the club president, Xia Yiqiu, along with her.
Liu Li looked at Xu Qingfeng’s face and didn’t say much. He consistently valued his class monitor for her excellent conduct and studies, especially admiring her literary talent. As a Chinese teacher, he regarded Xu Qingfeng as his favorite disciple.
Considering that this was also done with good intentions, he was already biased in their favor.
“Then you two just follow behind and don’t talk nonsense.”
Liu Li waved his hand dismissively, and his words were definitive, leaving no chance for others to object.
“Yes, Teacher.” The two girls obediently stood at the back again.
Xu Qingfeng winked at Xia Yiqiu, trying to be cute and seeking praise for her quick wit.
“Stop messing around. Let’s go.”
Xia Yiqiu was genuinely anxious and had already followed the teachers into the depths of the alley.
“Coming.”
Just held my hand, yet now she’s so heartless.
Alas, she remains so elusive.
Xu Qingfeng chased after her.
The buildings inside the alley were even more dilapidated than those outside. Initially, looking at the outermost row of houses, they thought the condition was acceptable, but it turned out only the outside had been freshly painted.
The living conditions for the people inside were extremely poor. They didn’t even have separate bathrooms. They encountered an old man carrying a chamber pot, heading towards the underground sewer entrance.
The area was already filthy and emitted a foul smell. Through the gaps in the iron grate, there were leftover vegetable scraps from who knows when. This was certainly not the high-priced, prime real estate of the capital.
Considering that the two old grandmothers earlier still had the mood to discuss others’ business, they were already considered optimistic. This old man trembled with every step, his face expressionless, looking like a zombie or a puppet.
The two fortunate children, who had only ever experienced minor mental distress, were profoundly shocked. Expressions of disbelief covered their faces, and their moods grew heavier.
People are still living like this in the 21st century? If I had to live like this… no, I can’t even imagine living like this, Xu Qingfeng thought to herself.
The teachers, however, were not surprised. They had lived for many years and had seen a lot. Life now was much happier. The existence of such places, apart from the truly most unfortunate, was often caused by unfilial children or people who lacked ambition.
A randomly found enthusiastic neighbor provided the exact location of Li Hua’s home. When the group reached her doorstep, just as they were about to knock, they heard a burst of noise.
A crude male voice came through, sounding like he had been drinking, the language slurred.
“What’s the point of school? Go to the factory for work and get married in a few years.”
“No, Xiaohua’s grades are so good. I’ll break the bank to let her continue her education.” The woman’s voice was firm yet filled with endless sorrow.
“It’s all your fault, all your fault for insisting on gambling.”
“Cough, cough.” The woman coughed violently.
“What are you screaming about? What’s the point of a money-losing girl going to school? Hurry up and earn money.” With that, he brutally kicked the girl.
“So long-winded! Do you have any money left? If you don’t give it to me, your husband will be arrested.”
This person was Li Hua’s biological father. He held scattered red and green bills—their last remaining savings, which he was about to take all of.
“No! This is Mom’s medicine money!” The girl’s voice was filled with anguish.
“Ah!” The sound of the girl falling to the ground came through; she had been kicked down again.
“You little beast.”
“If I get arrested, I’ll sell you first.”
“I’m lucky today. When I strike it rich, I won’t be short of any medicine money! Those debt collectors will all have to scram!”
His vulgar language combined with an arrogant tone and his greasy, obese body made him look nothing like the handsome young man in the wedding photo in the living room.
“Don’t blame me either. With your broken body, and letting her go to school, do you want me to come back and take care of you?”
Listening to this, everyone practically understood the cause and effect of Li Hua’s dropping out of school. Xia Yiqiu was almost bursting with anger, but Xu Qingfeng held her back tightly.
“Yiqiu, calm down. Violence won’t solve the problem.”
Although Xu Qingfeng was also furious, she was more concerned about Xia Yiqiu’s safety.
The teachers behind had already called the police. “Is this the police? There’s someone here drunk and intentionally injuring others.”
“Yes, we are at…”
Suddenly, the noise inside escalated again. The sound of the woman crying came through.
“Don’t hit her, cough, cough.”
However, they didn’t hear the girl’s shouts, only a firm, repeating voice.
“Give the money back to us.”
“Don’t!”
Before the plea could be finished, Xu Qingfeng kicked open the already dilapidated wooden door. Liu Li and the other teachers rushed in and restrained the man.
Her Taekwondo kicks had not been practiced in vain.
She simply couldn’t tolerate this scumbag anymore.
Initially, they were constrained by the rule against illegal entry, but upon hearing the subsequent noises, they absolutely could no longer deceive themselves that it was just a simple argument inside.
Xia Yiqiu was the first to run to Li Hua’s side. “Are you okay, classmate?”
Li Hua had obvious bruises on her arm, her hair was disheveled, and her lips were stained with bright red blood. No amount of sorrow or pain could compare to the sight before her eyes.
“It’s all my fault for not stopping you that day.”
Xia Yiqiu’s voice was trembling. She knelt on the ground, supporting Li Hua, her clean white skirt already dirtied by the filthy concrete floor. Her eyes inexplicably felt sore and watery.
“President Xia, it’s you.”
Li Hua looked at Xia Yiqiu, without the relief of being rescued, nor the tension for the future she had displayed that day. There was only a sigh of having seen through life, like a frail old person.
Just as everything was about to be settled, the drunk, stout man, possessing uncommon brute strength, struggled free from the two people restraining him and charged straight at Li Hua.
“You money-losing girl, how dare you call people!” His palm was raised high, about to strike Li Hua.
Xia Yiqiu acted without thinking, ready to use her body to shield Li Hua.
“Ha!” The kick broke the air with a whoosh.
“Get lost!” The girl’s cold tone suppressed her raging fury.
The expected pain did not arrive for Xia Yiqiu. Turning her head, she saw the young girl in sportswear, a heroic and valiant figure, delivering a clean side kick that sent the pig-headed man flying.
Xu Qingfeng was enraged. This scumbag had completely overturned her understanding of people.
She had only been very angry before, but when she saw that slap headed towards Xia Yiqiu.
She was ten-thousand times furious. An indescribable rage surged into her heart, erupting with astonishing power.
Xia Yiqiu, no one is allowed to bully her.
