- Chapter 2 - Wrapped Around His Little Finger
“Want me to carry you there?” Gu Wancheng asked, reaching out his hands.
“No way, I am not a little baby anymore.”
Chaochao climbed out of bed nimbly and ran toward the bathroom. Gu Wancheng withdrew his hands and followed leisurely behind. By the time he arrived, Chaochao was already standing on a stool, brushing his teeth.
This kid is actually quite well-behaved, Gu Wancheng thought.
He took out a new toothbrush, squeezed some toothpaste onto it, and looked up at the mirror. In that instant, he froze.
The person in the mirror had an innocent face with deep, soulful “peach blossom” eyes that looked affectionate even when staring at a dog. His light brown eyes and the beauty mark under the corner of his eye added a touch of allure to his face. With the corners of his mouth slightly turned up, he looked gentle and possessed a very good temperament.
However, a storm was brewing in Gu Wancheng’s heart. This face was identical to his face from his previous life. He suddenly lowered his head and pulled open his collar; a red mole at the center of his chest came into view.
He gripped his collar tightly. What on earth is going on? Why is it exactly the same? Am I “me” in another world? But this is clearly a novel.
Subconsciously, he began to bite his lip, catching the wound from the night before. He let out a soft gasp of pain.
Chaochao, who had been brushing his teeth seriously, spat out the foam and turned to look at Gu Wancheng. “Daddy, why have you not started brushing yet?”
“I know, I am doing it now.”
Gu Wancheng snapped back to reality and stopped overthinking. If he kept dwelling on it, he would run out of brain cells. Regardless, he decided to take things as they came.
After rinsing, he asked, “Chaochao, do you want me to help you wash your face?”
Chaochao tilted his head. “Okay, but you have to be gentle.”
Gu Wancheng nodded with a smile, signaling he would be very careful. Chaochao immediately tilted his head up and closed his eyes, looking like he wanted Gu Wancheng to hurry up.
Gu Wancheng used a wet towel to gently wipe the boy’s face. “How is that? Gentle enough?”
Chaochao nodded. Gu Wancheng immediately held the boy’s neck steady. “Do not move.”
Chaochao stood perfectly still until his face was clean.
“Alright, you head out first.”
As Chaochao walked out, he kept looking back at Gu Wancheng. Daddy is so strange today. Did he break his brain yesterday? A trace of pity appeared on his face.
But he actually quite liked the current Daddy. Even if Daddy had broken his brain, Chaochao decided he would take care of him. He nodded firmly at the thought. He sat by the bed and waited for Gu Wancheng to finish freshening up.
When Gu Wancheng came out and saw Chaochao sitting obediently by the bed, swinging his little feet, his heart melted. Children really are angels as long as they are not brats.
“Come here, Daddy will help you apply some lotion.”
Chaochao pouted. “So much trouble.” (òó)
“It will be over in a second.”
Breakfast and Realizations
After getting ready, the two went downstairs for breakfast.
As they stepped out, a low-key yet luxurious decor met Gu Wancheng’s eyes. Although his family in his previous life had been well-off, it was nothing compared to this. If he was not mistaken, the ornaments in the hallway and the paintings on the walls were all antiques. He gained a clearer understanding of his “cheap husband’s” wealth.
Tears of envy almost escaped from the corners of his mouth. Then, remembering that this was now his too, his mood brightened instantly. He surveyed the place discreetly, like a lord inspecting his future territory.
As they walked slowly down the stairs, Butler Chen came forward to greet them. “Good morning, Mr. Gu, Young Master.”
Gu Wancheng smiled. “Good morning.”
Chaochao asked, “Good morning, Grandpa Butler! What is for breakfast today?”
Butler Chen maintained a professional smile. “We have the seafood porridge the Young Master wanted yesterday.”
Chaochao’s eyes lit up. He grabbed Gu Wancheng’s hand and ran toward the dining table. Gu Wancheng followed helplessly, pulled along by the boy’s strength.
Butler Chen watched the two with a kind smile. Mr. Gu and the Young Master are getting along so well!
“Seafood porridge! Seafood porridge, here I come!” Just as he sat down, Chaochao impatiently scooped up a spoonful.
“Slow down, no one is fighting you for it.” Gu Wancheng found it funny; the boy was eating like a pig that had been starving for a day.
“You do not understand, I have been hungry for so long.” Chaochao dragged out his words.
“Remember to blow on it first, or it will be a disaster if you get burned.”
Chaochao huffed. “I am not a kid anymore. Of course I know to blow on it.”
“Yes, yes, yes. You are already a big four-year-old boy,” Gu Wancheng played along.
Hearing himself described as a “big boy,” Chaochao could not hide his happiness. His grin almost reached his ears as he quickly lowered his head to drink the porridge.
Gu Wancheng was hungry too, so he stopped teasing him. He took a bite of the seafood porridge Chaochao had been craving. It was fresh, savory, and rich. The chef definitely knows what they are doing, he thought.
The “Big Boy” Battle
As Gu Wancheng was leisurely finishing his meal, he heard Chaochao’s energetic voice. “I am finished!”
He replied, “Go play then.”
“No, I will stay here and keep you company.”
Gu Wancheng raised an eyebrow. “Why? I will not get lost.”
Chaochao wrinkled his nose and let out a soft snort. “You are actually rejecting me? Then I will not stay with you! You have no idea what you are losing!”
Gu Wancheng called out to the departing boy, “You are not staying with me?”
“Hmph! You only cherish things once they are gone. It is too late!” Chaochao crossed his arms and looked at him.
“Where did you learn those lines?” Gu Wancheng massaged his forehead.
“I am not telling you!” With that, the boy turned his head away, refusing to communicate.
After a while, seeing no response, Chaochao tentatively turned his head and locked eyes with Gu Wancheng. Startled, he immediately looked left and right, trying to prove he was not trying to look at him.
Suddenly, a soft chuckle was heard. Chaochao glared at Gu Wancheng indignantly.
Gu Wancheng immediately went silent and tilted his head, looking at the boy with feigned confusion.
Chaochao looked at him suspiciously. Did I hear wrong?
Butler Chen thought: Poor Young Master.
After checking repeatedly, Chaochao decided he had misheard. Thinking he had just glared at an innocent person, he became bashful and did not dare to look at Gu Wancheng. If he had looked up, he would have seen the smirk on Gu Wancheng’s face, but he had no intention of doing so.
“I will watch cartoons with you,” Gu Wancheng said, standing up and walking toward the boy who was acting like a timid quail.
Chaochao froze. “Are you finished eating?”
“I am full. Let us go.” He reached out and ruffled the boy’s hair as he walked past.
Chaochao was about to get angry, but then he remembered he had “wronged” him earlier. He forced himself to swallow his anger, puffed out his cheeks, and followed him huffily.
Butler Chen: The poor Young Master is being wrapped around his finger. ( ̄y▽ ̄)*
“What do you want to watch?” Gu Wancheng asked, holding the remote.
Chaochao said without hesitation, “My Little Pony.”
Gu Wancheng looked shocked. “You actually like My Little Pony!”
Chaochao: Do not get mad, do not get mad. He is such a bully. (╥﹏╥)
“What do you know? My Little Pony is the best!”
Gu Wancheng did not know if My Little Pony was the best, but he knew.
“Do you believe in the Light?” Gu Wancheng gripped Chaochao’s shoulders and spoke seriously.
Chaochao: “Wait, what?”
Hearing this question, Chaochao gave him a look of pure disdain. “Are you a child?”
“No, you do believe.”
Chaochao: -_-
Looking at Gu Wancheng’s determined gaze, Chaochao gestured for him to lean in. Gu Wancheng leaned in curiously, full of expectation.
“Let me tell you a secret.”
