The Salted Fish And Protagonist A Ended Up Together - Chapter 30.1
The person turned around and was momentarily startled. Wen Mian thought she had been recognized and wondered: Am I really that famous now?
The staff member checked the computer, then broke into a warm, friendly smile. “Is this Miss Wen Mian? Of course we have a room. Shall I lead you there?”
Wen Mian was puzzled. She thought to herself, Do you know me? and asked out loud.
With a polite smile, the staff member replied considerately, “Yes, President Pei specifically instructed us, if Miss Wen Mian comes, take her directly to her private room.”
It suddenly dawned on Wen Mian. So, this place was owned by Pei Ting, her business ventures were quite extensive.
Perhaps sensing Wen Mian’s inner thoughts, the waitress added, “President Pei and the CEO are friends.”
Wen Mian nodded, understanding. She waved her hand, and Xu Qing walked over, whispering, “Is it okay? If not, we can go somewhere else.”
Wen Mian turned her head and beamed. “It’s fine. I’ll definitely make sure you get a meal.”
The waitress led the way, and Wen Mian gestured for Xu Qing to follow.
The private room was filled with the faint, lingering scent of sandalwood. It smelled a lot like… Gu Man’s pheromones.
As soon as this thought surfaced, Wen Mian’s heart skipped a beat. She quickly shook her head to drive the thought away. Why am I always thinking of that woman?
Xu Qing looked around curiously and lowered her voice. “Mianmian, how did you get in?”
Wen Mian snapped back to reality, glanced at her, and said calmly, “The owner of this restaurant is a friend of my sister.”
Xu Qing’s expression instantly turned sour as she gave a dry “Oh.” If she had known, she wouldn’t have asked, she was truly envious of the wealthy.
The food was served shortly: translucent Steamed Pork with Garlic (Crystal Yao Meat), golden Crispy Shrimp with Fried Dough Sticks and Melon, tender Steamed Ribs with the fragrance of lotus leaves…
Wen Mian’s eyes sparkled. She picked up her chopsticks and urged Xu Qing: “Eat!”
Seeing Xu Qing take a piece of rib, she immediately followed suit.
After the meal, Xu Qing sent Wen Mian home, not forgetting to arrange for her ride to the airport the next day.
Wen Mian agreed, and the two parted ways.
Early the next morning, Xu Qing dropped her at the airport. Wen Mian played with her phone while waiting to board.
Zhang Yunxi called, her voice light and cheerful. “Mianmian, when do you arrive?”
Wen Mian’s expression softened. “Around ten o’clock. What about you?”
The boarding announcement could already be heard in the background of Zhang Yunxi’s call. She replied quickly, “Around nine. I’ve got to go, I’m boarding now.”
Without waiting for Wen Mian’s response, she hung up in a hurry and ran off to play.
Wen Mian gave a helpless smile, flipping her phone in her palm before catching it.
Another vibration followed, making Wen Mian’s heart thump heavily.
She opened it, and her intuition was correct, it was indeed Gu Man. Ever since this recording session ended, Gu Man had started sending her messages every night before she went to sleep, for some unknown reason.
The messages didn’t contain much information, just a simple “Goodnight.”
Just thinking about it made Wen Mian’s ears feel hot, and she awkwardly turned her head away.
Steadying her breath, Wen Mian looked down at her phone.
[Gu Man: I’ll arrive at eleven. I’m currently filming.]
This short sentence felt like Gu Man was reporting her itinerary to Wen Mian.
Wen Mian suddenly felt a tickle in her heart, hiding a trace of sweetness. She paused and replied: Mm, I’ll be there at ten.
Gu Man didn’t reply, she was likely busy and Wen Mian didn’t mind.
The boarding call sounded, and she walked toward the gate.
The scenery outside the plane window was picturesque, with layers of clouds passing by.
The production crew had changed to a new recording location, moving from the fields to the renowned and beautiful Dali.
The sky in Dali at noon was deep blue, with drifting clouds. In the distance, the peaks of the Cangshan Mountains were capped with perennial snow, surrounded by swirling mist and a sea of clouds.
Wen Mian took the production crew’s car, traveling past Erhai Lake. The water looked like a translucent blue sapphire, with the houses of the Bai people surrounding the lake.
The air felt crisp and refreshing. Wen Mian took a deep breath, exhaled slowly, and squinted her eyes.
The accommodation was a wooden cabin similar to a villa. As Wen Mian stepped inside, Zhang Yunxi immediately ran out to greet her.
“Mianmian, you’re finally here! I was bored to death!”
Wen Mian smiled instantly and asked, “Are we the only two here?”
At the mention of this, Zhang Yunxi’s head drooped. “They all have work. It seems the two of us are the most idle.”
Wen Mian clutched her chest, pretending to be heartbroken. “Xixi, though you’re right, could you not be so blunt?”
Zhang Yunxi stuck out her tongue and gave an embarrassed laugh. “Haha, sorry.”
After the half-hearted apology, Zhang Yunxi changed the subject. “Shiqiu said she’ll be here at ten-thirty. Let’s head inside first.”
Wen Mian: “Mm. Gu Man said she’ll be here at eleven. We have to wait a bit. Momo should be arriving soon.”
Zhang Yunxi cast a meaningful glance at Wen Mian, leaned in close, and whispered, “Gu-jie arrives at eleven, huh..”
She dragged out the sentence, nudged Wen Mian’s shoulder, and winked. “So, how do you know that?”
Wen Mian was speechless. She used her index finger to push Zhang Yunxi’s head away and looked away, pretending not to understand. “What are you saying? I don’t follow.”
Zhang Yunxi’s smile widened as she let out a long “Oh..”
Entering the room, Zhong Li came to meet them. Her eyes brimmed with laughter and her expression was relaxed, she seemed to be in a very good mood.
Wen Mian looked at her, raised an eyebrow, and then glanced around. Not seeing Wang Qiang anywhere, she understood immediately. She asked softly, “Became the director?”
Zhong Li: “It’s all thanks to you.”
Wen Mian shook her head. “It’s because you’re capable.”
The two looked at each other and then looked away.
Zhang Yunxi looked back and forth between them, completely confused. What happened? Is there something I don’t know?
Unable to contain her gossiping heart, Zhang Yunxi was practically jumping with impatience.
Sitting on the sofa together, Zhong Li peeked out from behind the camera and asked, “Shall we start the livestream?”
Since the last livestream hadn’t been done with their prior consent, Zhang Yunxi was still a bit unaccustomed to being asked.
“Sure, let’s start,” Wen Mian replied.
The audience had been waiting for a long time. As soon as the livestream opened, the viewer count exploded.
【Finally! I’ve been waiting so long!】
【Two days apart feels like forever. Ahhh! I finally see my baby Mianmian!】
【Manman! Manman! The “Man Lights” (fans) are here for you!】
【Here for Wen Mian’s hilarious antics! Wonder what funny moments there’ll be this week!】
【Plus one, hope Wen Mian doesn’t let me down!】
After the intense barrage of comments, everyone looked closely and saw a familiar scene: only Wen Mian and Zhang Yunxi were in the frame, sitting on the sofa quietly watching TV.
【Haha, such a familiar sight.】
【Why is it the “Bestie Duo” again? Does the production crew know how to pick people? Can we get a pair with more tension, like my “Gu Mian (Gu & Wen) for the rest of my life” ship?】
【I can hear you plotting from miles away.】
Not long after the TV started playing, the doorbell rang. Wang Momo walked in pulling her luggage.
Seeing Wen Mian, her “peach blossom” eyes lit up. “Mianmian, Xixi, you guys are so early.”
Wen Mian waved. “We just got here too. Come rest for a bit, the others will be a while.”
Wang Momo nodded, sat next to Wen Mian, and asked softly, “Mianmian, what have you been doing these past two days?”
Wen Mian made something up on the spot. “Sleeping, eating. You?”
Wang Momo scratched her head and smiled. “I was filming a TV drama.”
Wen Mian gave her a thumbs up. “Nice. Remember to let me know when it airs, I definitely want to watch it.”
Wang Momo nodded immediately.
Later, Su Shiqiu arrived, and finally, Gu Man.
As soon as Gu Man entered, she looked toward Wen Mian. She was wearing a casual grape-purple short sleeved shirt with a line of letters on it, which made her skin look even fairer.
Immediately following that, her gaze moved to Wang Momo sitting next to her. Her brows knit slightly, and she felt a trace of jealousy.
She inconspicuously walked over to Wen Mian and stood silently by her side. She pursed her lips without a word, her eyes betraying a faint sense of dissatisfaction.
