- Chapter 21 - Spreading Influence ※ Third-Person Perspective
“We thank you for saving us in our moment of danger.”
The man spoke these words and bowed deeply. His fellow adventurers followed suit, bowing as well. It had been truly perilous. Had help not arrived when it did, they would surely have all perished. Those who had been rescued felt genuine gratitude from the bottom of their hearts for having their lives saved.
In their long careers as adventurers, this was their first time experiencing something like this. Adventurers generally operated on the principle of self-responsibility. They might help acquaintances if possible, but few had the luxury to assist complete strangers. Yet those who had rushed to their aid were different.
“I’m glad we made it in time.”
The response came from a beautiful woman. Though young, she carried herself with dignity. She exuded an aura both gallant and gentle, giving off the distinctive presence of a powerful individual. Behind her stood the three figures who had been active in the battle moments earlier.
A blonde female knight, an energetically moving girl, and a calm elderly man. While they might have seemed like an odd combination at first glance, they demonstrated perfect teamwork.
Seeing them, the veteran adventurer recalled the rumors circulating in the royal capital about a new adventuring party.
Though they were supposed to be newcomers, rumors said they had completed numerous requests in a short period. Moreover, they were reportedly backed by the famous Anctuan Merchant Guild, and their achievements were already becoming legendary. Within the guild, their reputation was spreading rapidly among adventurers.
According to what he’d heard, this party would always help adventurers in trouble whenever they encountered them. They were an unprecedented type among adventurers, being compared to temple saints. He had wanted to meet this rumored party at least once, but he never imagined he would be on the receiving end of their help.
Furthermore, they refused to accept any reward for their assistance. “When you see someone in trouble next time, please help them instead,” they would say before departing.
Some criticized them as merely seeking popularity, but those who had actually been rescued were genuinely grateful and had started helping others in need as requested. This cycle of mutual aid was rapidly spreading among the adventurers in the royal capital.
The atmosphere among adventurers had changed significantly since this new party’s appearance. Recently, monsters inhabiting the areas around the city had become unusually active compared to previous years, and there had already been casualties. Without this kind of mutual assistance, many more lives might have been lost. In such a critical situation, the act of helping others was spreading.
“There might still be monsters gathering deeper in the forest. If we don’t deal with them, they might advance toward the royal capital.”
The white-bearded elder reported in a calm tone. Despite his gentle delivery, the tension in his voice made everyone present straighten their expressions. If this area were breached, the safety of the royal capital could be threatened.
“That does sound dangerous,” the young woman who appeared to be the leader responded calmly. A light of determination shone in her eyes.
“We’ll handle it. Everyone else, please return to the royal capital and report.”
“No, but—!” the man reflexively exclaimed. Now that they had recovered, they could still fight. He wanted to ask if there was anything they could do to help. But he took a moment to calmly reassess the situation.
Remembering the poor condition of their weapons and armor, and that they had been on the verge of total annihilation just moments ago, he closed his mouth. Looking at his companions’ faces, he could see they hadn’t recovered from their fatigue either. So, he decided to accept her proposal.
“…Understood. We’ll hurry back to the royal capital. We’ll take care of reporting to the guild too.”
“Thank you.”
The rescued party decided to entrust the situation to them and return. They felt grateful that these powerful individuals would fight in their stead.
As they were about to head toward their respective destinations, the veteran adventurer asked, “Should we pay you for saving us once you safely return to the capital?”
He was asking about compensation for their rescue. The woman turned back, smiled brightly, and spoke. Her expression was like the sun—a bright, pure smile that kindled warm hope in the hearts of those who saw it.
“No payment is necessary.”
“But… that’s…”
It was exactly the response he’d heard about in the rumors. But that left him at a loss. How could he express his gratitude? The rescued man showed a confused expression.
“In that case, when you see someone in trouble, please help them just as we helped you this time.”
So, they really were that party after all.
The moment he heard those words, he became certain that they were indeed the adventuring party everyone was talking about in the royal capital. There was no mistake. They were the ones changing the situation in the capital. Their kindness and strength were transforming how adventurers conducted themselves.
“Understood. You’re strong so you’ll probably be fine, but please be careful!”
“Thank you for your concern. You be careful too.”
With that, they headed deeper into the forest to eliminate the remaining monsters. The four figures gradually disappeared into the woods. Watching them depart, the men hurried back along the road to the royal capital.
What remained in their hearts was gratitude for being saved from crisis, and the memory of their kindness. And the determination that when they next encountered someone in trouble, they would be the ones to extend a helping hand.
