- The Saint Disappeared with Her Memories — Her Broken Engagement Decided the Kingdom’s Destiny
- Chapter 18 - A New Pleasure
Looking back on my time as a Saintess, I realize I should have paid more attention to fashion. But I simply hadn’t had the luxury.
My hair had grown out completely, sometimes becoming so long it covered my eyes. On hectic mornings, I’d look at my reflection and think “I need to cut this,” but then another wave of work would come and I’d forget about it. I spent so much time in work clothes that I barely had time to change, completely absorbed in my duties. Maintaining basic hygiene was already a struggle. I had no time for anything beyond that.
I felt particularly sorry for my disciple, Emily. She admired me so much that she imitated everything I did, throwing herself into training and work while neglecting her appearance just like I did. I wished she wouldn’t copy me that closely. She was so cute; it was such a waste.
Now that we were free from the temple, we finally had time to spare. We could use our time freely for various things, and I found myself wanting to enjoy fashion.
Our activities as adventurers had stabilized too, we were completing requests and earning recognition. With our livelihood firmly established and some breathing room in our adventuring work, we could finally turn our attention to other things.
Today, Emily and I visited one of Anctuan’s shops – a clothing store. The interior was bathed in soft light, with colorful garments beautifully displayed. Amid the floral fragrance, Emily stood beside me looking slightly nervous.
“Emily, what do you think of this dress?”
I showed her an elegant blue dress with white embroidery. It had an elegant curved design with exquisite handiwork that caught the light.
“Eh!? Lady Noella, that looks expensive! If you’re buying for me, something cheaper would be.”
“It’s fine, just try it on while we’re here. Like the clerk said, I’m sure it will suit you. Since I want to see you in it, don’t hold back.”
“Yes, it will definitely look wonderful on you,” the clerk standing beside me added with a gentle smile. She seemed to be one of Anctuan’s shop employees, treating us with first-class service.
“R-really…? Then I’ll try it on!”
After persuading the hesitant Emily, I picked out several outfits that might suit her. Not entirely confident in my own taste, I consulted with the clerks while selecting. Then I had Emily try them on.
“H-how do I look…?”
When Emily emerged timidly from the fitting room, I was thoroughly satisfied. The coordination brought out her charm to the fullest. The blue dress complemented her bright hair, while the white embroidery created a pure atmosphere. As expected, she looked adorable yet elegant, fully displaying her natural loveliness.
“It looks absolutely wonderful on you, Emily.”
My voice held genuine admiration. Away from the temple’s rigid atmosphere, I realized she could shine so vibrantly.
“Yes, it suits you perfectly!”
The clerks who had helped us also showed delighted expressions upon seeing her in the dress.
“Ehehe, I’m happy to hear that from Lady Noella and everyone.”
Emily’s embarrassed smile was unbearably cute. Just seeing her smile made me smile naturally too.
It was truly regrettable that we couldn’t see such wonderful expressions while at the temple. Maybe I should have put work aside occasionally and paid more attention to fashion back then.
But it’s too late for regrets. Then I should just enjoy myself to the fullest from now on.
“Th-then next! It’s Lady Noella’s turn to change!”
Emily suggested brightly that it was now my turn. I couldn’t refuse after having her try on clothes I’d chosen. Besides, I wanted to enjoy this opportunity too.
“That’s right. While we’re at it, why don’t you pick out some clothes that might suit me, Emily?”
“Eh!? M-me? …Understood! I’ll choose with all my might!!”
Watching Emily dart around the store with determination, I picked up several outfits myself. And so we enjoyed shopping together. I was thoroughly savoring something I could never have done during my Saintess days.
“Lady Noella, you look amazing too! So beautiful…!”
The dress Emily had chosen for me seemed to match my atmosphere perfectly. It had a design that exposed my shoulders slightly – a style I would never have chosen during my Saintess days. But my reflection in the mirror didn’t look bad. Rather, it felt fresh and comfortable.
“Thank you, Emily.”
While wearing the clothes we’d chosen for each other, we admired each other’s appearances and learned various fashion tips from the clerks. I could now actively explore areas I’d never been interested in before. From hairstyles to shoe selection to accessory coordination, we absorbed new knowledge.
“Next time, maybe we should bring Nadine along too.”
She always wears such practical clothes. But she should look good in more feminine outfits as well.
“Yes! That’s a wonderful idea! Since Nadine is tall with a good figure, I’m sure all kinds of clothes would suit her!”
Emily’s eyes sparkled. She must have been thinking the same thing. Choosing clothes would definitely become more fun. Imagining this, we both smiled.
And regarding Jamel’s clothing too. Even after leaving the temple, he keeps wearing the same kinds of clothes. I thought it might be fun to pick out new clothes for him as well.
