The Romance Extras Turned Out to Be a Yuri Story - Chapter 9
Lin Luoluo was a little unwilling. Ever since meeting Zhang Qiu, she had disliked Gu Beichen’s mother, Sang Tian, who had made things difficult for Zhang Qiu. But since this was a request from an elder, she bit her lip and followed Gu Beichen into the Gu family home.
The Gu family’s house wasn’t ostentatiously luxurious, but at a glance one could tell it was a mansion. Inside, the raised split-level design made the space look immense. The black, white, and gray tones were elegant, noble, and full of modern minimalism.
Lin Luoluo sat on the sofa in the living room. The butler served her tea while Gu Beichen went to change clothes. After a while, the sound of footsteps came from the spiral staircase above. Gu Beichen’s mother, Sang Tian, appeared with her daughter, Gu Xiaoxiao.
“Luoluo, you’ve already come to Auntie’s house, why not come inside sooner?” Sang Tian nudged her daughter. “Go greet your sister.”
Gu Xiaoxiao politely said, “Hello, Sister Lin.”
Lin Luoluo nodded. Gu Xiaoxiao glanced at her, then hugged her mother’s leg.
Sang Tian and Gu Xiaoxiao sat opposite Lin Luoluo. Lin Luoluo said, “Today I had dinner with Brother Beichen and dropped him off. I didn’t want to trouble Auntie by coming in.”
Sang Tian smiled. “You’re such a thoughtful girl. No wonder every time I see your mother, she praises you for being considerate—saying that even when you’re abroad, you don’t forget to buy her handbags.”
As she spoke, she patted Gu Xiaoxiao’s head lovingly. “Xiaoxiao, you must learn from Sister Lin, do you understand?”
“I understand, Mommy.”
Gu Xiaoxiao looked obedient, but Lin Luoluo knew full well what kind of vicious heart hid under this cute and well-behaved facade.
Because of Sang Tian’s indulgence, Gu Xiaoxiao had grown up flitting through circles of wealth and vanity. She would say whatever suited the listener, bullying weaker classmates in school but flattering the stronger ones with sweet words—just like she was doing now.
“Now that I’ve met Sister Lin, I really like her. Sister Lin, can you come and play with me often?” Gu Xiaoxiao, sensing that her mother was satisfied with Lin Luoluo’s identity, cleverly extended an invitation.
Sure enough, Sang Tian’s lips curved with satisfaction.
Faced with a child’s invitation, few people could refuse. Compared to that “commoner” girl whom Beichen had brought home claiming he wanted to marry, Sang Tian much preferred Lin Luoluo, who was a good match for their family in terms of background.
Amid the system’s shrill urging in her mind, Lin Luoluo nodded her agreement.
Standing behind some greenery on the second floor, Zuo Jinwei clenched her fists. She had thought that winning over Gu Xiaoxiao would earn her opportunities to get closer to Gu Beichen. Sang Tian had once expressed satisfaction with her and even said she was better than Zhang Qiu. Zuo Jinwei had believed that, in time, she would gain Sang Tian’s approval and stand at Beichen’s side.
But all of that was crushed by Lin Luoluo’s appearance.
Even before Lin Luoluo arrived, Sang Tian had been notified by the butler and prepared a full welcome—she even worried that Lin might refuse to enter and arranged for the butler to make sure she stayed.
In contrast, to Sang Tian, Zuo Jinwei was no more than a servant who could be brushed aside with money. The cosmetics and handbags Sang Tian gave her weren’t tokens of favor—just things she herself didn’t need.
Zuo Jinwei clawed at the wall plaster, when suddenly a voice came from behind.
“You’re still here?” Gu Beichen had just come out of his room, looking surprised.
Zuo Jinwei turned around. Gu Beichen, in that in-between state between youth and manhood, had broad shoulders. He had casually showered and changed clothes, carrying with him the humid freshness of water tinged with an intimate allure.
Zuo Jinwei’s face flushed. “It’s a new semester, and I wanted to help Xiaoxiao make a new study plan. I stayed later than I should have—I’ll leave now.”
She lowered her head, looking anxious at his words.
Sure enough, Gu Beichen spoke to keep her.
“Luoluo is downstairs.”
“If you’re not in a hurry, you can chat with her for a while. You two are in the same major. Have you been in touch lately?”
Following behind Gu Beichen as he went downstairs, Zuo Jinwei’s gaze darkened at the mention of Lin Luoluo.
“I’ve been busy looking for internships, so I haven’t interacted with her much. But I did show her around campus when she first came.”
“Oh, you haven’t secured an internship yet?” Gu Beichen asked.
“It’s hard to find something in my field,” Zuo Jinwei said with a bitter smile. “After all, I study psychology. At hospitals there are licensed doctors; at schools the bar is too low. I’m even considering changing career paths.”
Gu Beichen nodded. As they neared the bottom of the stairs, he quickly added, “If it’s too hard to find, you can intern at Gu Corp.”
A flicker of triumph flashed across Zuo Jinwei’s face.
Gu Beichen called out to his mother as he entered the living room. Gu Xiaoxiao waved excitedly. “Brother, come here! We were just chatting with Sister Luoluo!”
“What are you chatting about?” Gu Beichen laughed, scooping Gu Xiaoxiao up and perching her on his lap.
Zuo Jinwei wanted to move closer, but before she could speak, a sharp look from Sang Tian froze her in place. The butler came quietly and led her away. Meanwhile, Sang Tian called Lin Luoluo over.
“This month, Beichen’s father will be back, right in time for the Gu family’s centennial celebration. I’d like to invite your family too, Luoluo. Do you have time? Would you like to come join the fun?”
“At such a grand event, of course I’ll be there!” Lin Luoluo smiled. “I’ll tell my parents when I get home and make sure they bring me along.”
“I’ve already sent invitations to your parents. Your brother should know as well—only you were left,” Sang Tian said with a smile.
Lin Luoluo pouted playfully. “Oh, so everyone kept me in the dark.”
Sang Tian laughed behind her hand. “You’ve just come back, it’s natural you don’t know how things work here yet. Luoluo, what do you want to do in the future?”
“Me?” Lin Luoluo pretended to think. “Since my brother will inherit the company, I’ll probably just be a pampered idle rich woman.”
“Hasn’t Luoluo ever thought of getting married? I remember when you were little, you always chased after Beichen, saying you wanted to marry him.”
“Mom!” Gu Beichen cut in. “That was ages ago—don’t bring it up now! And besides, I have a girlfriend!”
Sang Tian ignored her son, watching Lin Luoluo’s reaction intently.
Lin Luoluo’s mouth twitched. She held back the urge to curse and instead smiled. “That was all in the past.”
【Warning! Character OOC detected! The world’s consciousness will erase you if discovered! Host, please act your role seriously!】
Since Lin Luoluo’s current persona was the “villainess who loves the male lead,” she couldn’t just change character traits at will. If she did, as the system said, she risked being erased. The system hadn’t explained what “erasure” meant, but Luoluo guessed it wouldn’t be anything good. That was the first time she’d triggered such a warning.
Her heart sank.
Sang Tian’s expression cooled, though Gu Beichen looked faintly pleased.
Lin Luoluo lowered her eyes. “Things are different now. Since Brother Beichen has a girlfriend, I can’t chase him anymore.”
Her gaze dimmed, her curly hair drooping over her shoulders as if she were truly heartsick.
Sang Tian’s eyes lit up for a moment. She could tell Luoluo still liked Beichen, but was restraining herself because of his girlfriend. Coughing lightly, she said, “When you two were little, your mother and I even talked about arranging a marriage between you. If you were to become part of the Gu family, Auntie would cherish you dearly.”
That was going too far. Gu Beichen frowned. “Mom, it’s getting late. Luoluo should head home before her family worries.”
“Oh, look at me. I was hoping to keep you for dinner,” Sang Tian said.
Everyone rose to their feet. Lin Luoluo laughed. “Not today—I just ate before coming over. Next time, I’ll definitely stay and try your cooking.”
With that, the butler escorted Lin Luoluo out. Sang Tian sent Gu Xiaoxiao upstairs to review her lessons. Once the living room was empty, her face turned cold.
“That girlfriend of yours came over and barely spoke. She even hurt Xiaoxiao while playing. How can your sister live under the same roof if this goes on? And what’s wrong with Luoluo? We know her well, her family background matches ours. You’re about to enter the company, and you’re still so childish?”
“That girl—you can play around with her if you want, but marry her? Absolutely not! I won’t allow it! Your father won’t either!”
“Mom!” Gu Beichen flared. “That’s not what you said yesterday!”
“I did say it yesterday! But has she apologized to your sister? Beichen! With your status, you could have any woman you want. Why pick someone like her? I’m not against you dating, but marriage is absolutely out of the question!”
Gu Beichen’s chest rose and fell with anger. Sang Tian softened her tone.
“If you like her, that’s fine. Our family can afford it. You can marry Luoluo and keep a few others outside, as long as Luoluo doesn’t find out.”
Gu Beichen gave a low, mirthless laugh. “Is that what you told my father too? To keep mistresses outside as long as you didn’t know?”
Smack! Sang Tian slapped him hard across the face.
“Gu Beichen! I didn’t raise you to talk back like this! How dare you bring up your father for the sake of that woman? What won’t you do next? I’ll tell you now—marrying her is impossible! I will never agree!”
She had intended to persuade him gently, since her son was strong-willed. But clearly her earlier efforts hadn’t been enough. Even though he wavered, he still loved Zhang Qiu.
She understood how unforgettable first love could be. All the more reason to utterly destroy Beichen’s so-called “white moonlight,” so that he could never think of her again.
A trace of cruelty curved her lips. Disappointed, she gave him one last look before turning away.
Zhang Qiu’s breakup, his mother’s pressure—together they made Gu Beichen bend his youthful back for once. He covered his eyes, stood dazed for a while, and finally returned to his room.
On the car ride home, the system shrieked: 【Host, are you suicidal? This is the first time you’ve gone so badly OOC! If the world realizes there’s a stowaway here, you’re done for!】
Lin Luoluo pressed her lips. 【I know.】
【Host, are you upset?】 the system asked nervously.
Lin Luoluo: 【Of course not. Just… a little tired.】
【Then rest for now, Host. You’ll be home soon.】
Lin Luoluo closed her eyes. Too much had happened today. She really did need rest—and to think carefully about her future.
When she got home, Lin Xiangdong had surprisingly returned before her. He was sitting in the living room gaming. In the heat of battle, he couldn’t help swearing. When the match ended, he tossed his phone aside.
His teammates from the school team cursed over voice chat: “Damn camper! We almost won that chicken dinner! Lin, I see Sister Qiu online—why don’t you ask her to carry us instead?”
