The Romance Extras Turned Out to Be a Yuri Story - Chapter 30.2
The man’s mouth twitched. “It’s nothing.” He turned and walked back to his companions.
Zhang Qiu breathed a sigh of relief. Seeing Lin Luoluo walking towards her, she curved her lips, her previously tense expression relaxing. She raised her hand to greet her: “Luo…”
Lin Luoluo walked right past her, as if she hadn’t seen her, or perhaps saw her but considered it irrelevant. She walked straight ahead. Not far behind her, Gu Beichen was entertaining guests. Lin Luoluo hurried over to him and complained, “Gu Beichen, I’ve been looking for you forever!”
The uncertainty in her voice was known only to Lin Luoluo.
White suit, pink tie, that’s him, right?
Lin Luoluo gripped her skirt hem, feeling a little nervous.
Gu Beichen was surprised: “Weren’t you with them?”
Lin Luoluo relaxed and flashed a smile.
“I came specifically to find you.”
“Who is this?” the tall, plump man next to him asked with a smile.
Gu Beichen quickly introduced them: “This is Lin Luoluo, and this is President Sun.”
“A member of the Lin family?” Sun Yu suddenly understood. Young couples like to stick together, he got it. He said considerately, “Young nephew, I’ll look around myself, you don’t need to entertain me. Don’t keep Miss Lin waiting.”
Gu Beichen knew he had misunderstood and his lips tightened. He glanced at Lin Luoluo, whose gaze was fixed on his shoulder, her eyes burning with a fierce fire.
All or nothing!
She absolutely had to make Gu Beichen detest her!
After the others had left, Gu Beichen asked, “Did you need me for something?”
He looked down at Lin Luoluo. Lin Luoluo was wearing a pair of high heels today, her height just reaching Gu Beichen’s shoulder. The way Gu Beichen looked down at her had a hint of intimacy. The handsome man and beautiful woman, with Gu Beichen being the focus of the entire venue, and a pretty girl standing next to him, the “Prince in a white suit” and the “Princess in formal attire” immediately drew many curious glances.
“Who is that? I just saw her pursuing Young Master Gu. Isn’t she a toad trying to eat swan meat?”
“I think you’re the toad. That’s the eldest daughter of the Lin family, they’re a perfect match.”
“Why are you insulting me?”
“Why am I insulting you? You were the one who pushed me away from Young Master Gu! I’m talking about you!”
“So you’re the toad!”
“Who are you calling a toad?”
“I’m calling you!”
Zhang Qiu stood stunned beside the poorly mannered, arguing young ladies from wealthy families. She clenched her fists watching Lin Luoluo’s direction. She knew Lin Luoluo was face-blind, so it was normal for her not to recognize her, but her heart still ached.
She didn’t recognize her, yet why did she recognize Gu Beichen?
A bitter, sour feeling welled up in her heart, like when she was a child and secretly ate the sour apricots outside Grandma’s door. The acid in her stomach churned.
Zhang Qiu pressed her stomach, feeling a bit nauseous.
The wine she had just drunk was starting to cause reflux in her stomach.
“Zhang Qiu, are you feeling unwell?” Pei Qin walked over and asked.
Zhang Qiu lowered her eyes. “I’m fine, Teacher.”
“Did you drink too much just now?” Pei Qin frowned. “Lu Feng is here, so if you’re not feeling well, go back first. Lu Feng’s assistant is outside, I’ll ask her to take you.”
Zhang Qiu didn’t insist. She nodded.
Perhaps leaving was the right choice.
Lu Feng stood nearby and called his assistant. The assistant quickly came in to lead Zhang Qiu out. Just then, the lights in the hall suddenly dimmed. The head of the Gu family, Gu Beichen’s father, Gu Jianye, stood smiling at the microphone and said, “Thank you all for honoring us with your presence at our Gu Group’s centennial celebration.”
“The Gu Group has grown from a department store to the Gu Group Real Estate of today, thanks to everyone’s trust. Today is our centennial celebration; please eat and drink well! I won’t say more!”
A three-meter-high cake was wheeled over. Everyone surged forward. Lu Feng’s assistant and Zhang Qiu stopped, wanting to wait a moment before leaving. To leave now would be too disrespectful to the Gu family.
The cake was cut with the first slice by several people together. Chefs nearby began serving the cake. Gu Jianye continued, “I have another piece of good news to announce, and that is that my son will soon be happily married to the youngest daughter of the Lin family. We hope you will all honor us with your presence at the engagement ceremony.”
“Congratulations!”
“This is truly wonderful news!”
“With the Gu family and the Lin family joining forces, will there be any business left for the Mu family and the Dongfang family in Longhai City?”
“Keep your voice down, the other two families have people here too!”
Mu Yunchun stood behind his older brother, Mu Yunyan, smiling as he greeted the scrutinizing glances from all sides.
Dongfang Qing, worried that the crowd might squeeze Dongfang Yuan, held his younger brother and stood behind their father.
Lin Xiangdong stood in the front row with his father and mother, looking a bit worriedly towards the front.
Gu Beichen and Lin Luoluo were arranged to stand behind a curtain, separated by the space of three people, each lost in thought.
“Come, Luoluo, Beichen, greet all the uncles, aunts, and elders.”
Lin Luoluo lifted her skirt and walked out into the light. Gu Beichen took a deep breath and followed her with long strides.
Gu Beichen caught up to Lin Luoluo and quietly warned, “Don’t make a scene. Mind the occasion.”
Lin Luoluo showed a sweet smile on her face. She had already figured out what kind of woman the male lead would detest: a woman who loved him to the point of madness.
When a person doesn’t like someone else, everything the other person does is wrong.
The more proactive Lin Luoluo was, the further Gu Beichen would retreat.
He himself disagreed with this arranged marriage, only being pressured by his family. But how could a young, free heart be bound by old, rigid doctrines? Lin Luoluo only needed to give him a gentle push, and this rope would break.
Just a moment ago, when Lin Luoluo tentatively said she liked Gu Beichen and did not want to break off the engagement, Gu Beichen had frowned and stared at her for a long time before asking, “You’re not kidding, are you, Lin Luoluo?”
“You like me?”
Lin Luoluo had to steel herself and nod at the time. In truth, she was tingling from head to toe and could barely breathe.
She took a deep breath, preparing to go for the big move.
Walking up to Gu Jianye, Lin Luoluo whispered, “Uncle, can I say something to everyone?”
Gu Jianye was increasingly satisfied with Lin Luoluo, especially happy that she was a Lin. This small matter was naturally permissible.
Lin Luoluo stood at the microphone. The lights overhead were dazzling and blurred her vision. She knew that once this sentence was spoken, she couldn’t turn back, but Lin Luoluo wanted to test if the world consciousness would punish her.
The plan in her heart was not spoken aloud, so the System did not know, and she could attempt it boldly.
“Everyone, I have something I want to say.” Lin Luoluo’s voice was timid at first. She pinched her thigh tightly to keep herself standing. “The engagement between Gu Beichen and me was something I forced. He doesn’t like me.”
Lin Luoluo said this part easily, but the following words were not so easy to utter, as they were against her will.
“I love him very much, so I don’t want to let go.”
Lin Luoluo’s body was trembling. She pinched her thigh to hold herself together.
“So I want to say, Gu Beichen, I love you. Will you give me a chance to confess? Let’s try. If it doesn’t work out, we’ll call off the engagement.”
After speaking, Lin Luoluo bowed her head deeply, utterly exhausted.
The System did not speak, and she did not faint.
She passed.
Lin Luoluo bit her lower lip. Her slender neck, like a noble white swan, was bowed low, begging for love. Zhang Qiu couldn’t bear to watch. She felt suffocated, the tightness in her chest driving her crazy.
Yet, she couldn’t take her eyes off Lin Luoluo, who was standing in the spotlight.
She was so brave. If she were Gu Beichen, she might also be moved by this sincerity.
Zhang Qiu didn’t want to look, but her eyes were glued to the stage, her feet rooted to the spot.
Gu Beichen was pushed forward. His thin lips were tightly pursed, his brows furrowed, terrifyingly handsome. The words he spoke were heartlessly chilling.
He raised his sharp eyebrow and sneered, “Then let’s try.”
…
Zhang Qiu stood there. The earlier excitement had died down. People were discussing in small groups. Lin Luoluo was led away by Lin Xiangdong, and Gu Beichen was called away to be reprimanded. Clearly, the crowd was extremely concerned about them.
The assistant who was supposed to take Zhang Qiu home asked, “Zhang Qiu, are you alright? Your face is so pale.”
Lin Luoluo suddenly turned her head.
She thought she heard someone call Zhang Qiu?
Lin Xiangdong lectured her, “I told you not to wander off. What are you looking at? How could you be so bold, how could you say those things?”
Lin Luoluo’s almond eyes searched around, feeling uneasy, her fingers tightly clutching her skirt.
“Brother, did you see Zhang Qiu?”
“Zhang Qiu is here? Where?” Lin Xiangdong turned his head and looked around.
Under the complex dome, Zhang Qiu’s face was pale, her lips completely devoid of color. She covered her stomach and said, “I’m fine.”
A sharp pain surged from her stomach. Zhang Qiu resisted the urge to curl up and said, “Let’s go. Thank you for taking me home.”
She lifted her foot to walk forward, and the world suddenly spun. She fell forward.
“Zhang Qiu?!”
