The Reason I Made Her My Queen - Chapter 8
Identity fraud is a crime.
Even if the person is of noble status.
And even more so if it’s committed in another country rather than one’s own.
It could easily develop into an international issue.
“Based on the above, we conclude that the Kingdom of Carnia has unjustly degraded Princess Petronila and employed her as a maid serving Princess Elvira. Furthermore, we presume that in doing so, they must have recorded Princess Petronila’s status as that of a ‘baron’s daughter.’ Your country dares to falsify Princess Petronila’s status and then claim, ‘We earnestly hope that the friendly relations between our two nations remain unchanged’? As for Princess Elvira, who has come to our country to marry, is she even genuine? Could it be that she, too, has come here under a false identity?”
To summarize: “What are you trying to accomplish by demoting your own princess to the status of a baron’s daughter? Are you plotting espionage or something? Even so, disguising a princess as a maid for spying is utterly pathetic. And if that’s the case, then the young girl who came here as a queen consort is also suspicious. Is she really a princess? Or is she a fake?”
To put it more bluntly: “This marriage was your idea in the first place! How dare you act like the victim here? Cut the crap! Are you picking a fight with our country? If so, we’ll gladly take you on!”
War was imminent.
One could sense a strong resolve—that they would not hesitate to go to war depending on how the Kingdom of Carnia responded.
In contrast, the diplomats from the Kingdom of Carnia were thrown into a panic.
And rightfully so.
They never expected to be accused of being “untrustworthy” by the very allied nation to which they had sent their princess.
Talk of spies and fakes.
Bombarded with incomprehensible accusations, they fell into a state of chaos.
“P-please wait! We would never do such a thing! Lady Elvira is undoubtedly our kingdom’s princess!!”
“Then why was Princess Petronila recorded as a ‘baron’s daughter’? Does your country have many individuals falsely claiming the status of ‘princess’?”
“N-no, of course not!”
“Then why was she brought to this country as a ‘maid’? That’s strange, isn’t it? Princess Petronila possesses ‘rainbow-colored eyes, the proof of the lost Carnian royal family.’ Therefore, she can be clearly identified as a member of the Carnian royal family. But Miss Elvira is different. There is no basis to prove her identity. Isn’t that right?”
“…”
The diplomat was at a loss for words.
He must have noticed the change in the form of address.
The Kingdom of Fabra was signaling that they “do not recognize the girl named Elvira as a princess of a sovereign nation.”
Princess Elvira was the queen’s daughter.
A beautiful girl who closely resembled the queen.
But saying she “resembles the queen” was not proof.
It would only lead to accusations like, “Did you just bring a girl who looks like her?”
“It seems you understand now how contradictory your statements have been.”
“…”
“Our country has no intention of accepting a princess of uncertain authenticity as the official queen consort.”
“…Y-you may not believe us but Lady Elvira is undoubtedly the princess of Carnia!”
He ended by almost shouting, but the Kingdom of Fabra’s conclusion remained unchanged.
Even if they submitted documents such as Princess Elvira’s birth records, they would likely be dismissed with, “Aren’t these forgeries?”
No matter how much the Kingdom of Carnia insisted that “Princess Elvira is genuine,” it meant nothing.
After all, this same Kingdom of Carnia had falsified the identity of “another princess, labeling her as a baron’s daughter and a maid.”
A princess born out of wedlock.
A princess born to a maid.
She wasn’t particularly beautiful. Not ugly, but ordinary.
It wasn’t just the nobles who whispered behind her back, calling her the “bastard princess.”
The common people, too, treated the unremarkable princess lightly.
It had always been that way.
They never even questioned whether such behavior was unacceptable.
It was precisely this accumulation of actions that led to another nation condemning the Kingdom of Carnia.
“Regarding this matter, our country will proceed in accordance with international law. Is that acceptable?”
Even after the Kingdom of Fabra delivered this statement, the Carnian diplomats could only stammer, “That is… well…”
They felt no shame for their actions.
In fact, they even believed they had done nothing wrong.
No, they didn’t understand what was wrong in the first place.
It never crossed their minds that their own common sense would be considered “unacceptable behavior” in most other nations.
And they would pay the full price for that ignorance.
