The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 37
I think Yu Kunian is very good.
That Alpha, whom I had heard so much about, was finally met today.
Xia Weichi wore her auburn hair in a neat, low ponytail, dressed in a silk mermaid gown. Her hair was perfectly styled, and the pearl studs on her ears were quite striking; she appeared thoroughly proper, gentle, and elegant.
The Alpha stopped in front of Song Wenzhi and asked softly, “Xiao zhi, why are you back so late?”
As she spoke, Xia Weichi’s gaze landed on Yu Kunian. She didn’t actually expect an answer, as she had already figured it out. The Alpha then looked at Yu Kunian and Song Wenzhi’s still-intertwined hands, feigning surprise as she asked again, “Is this your friend? Please introduce her to me.”
Song Wenzhi said, “Weichi, I’ve told you about her—Yu Kunian, my Alpha.”
Hearing that Song Wenzhi had already mentioned her to Xia Weichi, Yu Kunian’s expression softened slightly. A flicker of satisfaction flashed in her eyes. She let out a small laugh and extended her hand politely. “So you are Xia Weichi. A pleasure—Yu Kunian of Zhaoming Biotech. I have long admired Director Xia’s reputation.”
Xia Weichi shook her hand, nodding slightly. “The honor is mine. President Yu is too kind.”
Although Xia Weichi was currently leading a major international medical project, she had always kept a low profile, never participating in events or media interviews. Aside from those within the same industry, few people knew her name. However, she wasn’t surprised that Yu Kunian knew who she was; after all, someone like Yu Kunian would have surely investigated everything regarding Song Wenzhi thoroughly, including her.
Behind the lenses of her rimless glasses, Xia Weichi’s eyes were full of scrutiny. She wordlessly sized Yu Kunian up from head to toe. Her expression remained unchanged, though her smile deepened slightly. She spoke, “Thank you, President Yu, for bringing our Xiaozhi back. Since she has been delivered, President Yu may take her leave.”
Yu Kunian keenly sensed a strange hostility from Xia Weichi, especially when Xia Weichi emphasized the word “our” and stepped in front of Song Wenzhi to shield her.
This medical expert Alpha appeared gentle and polite on the surface, but she turned out to be quite forceful. Even facing Yu Kunian, her tone brooked no refusal.
Yu Kunian remained silent, turning her gaze toward Song Wenzhi.
The Omega frowned, finding Xia Weichi’s reaction strange. She had to grab Xia Weichi’s arm and pull her back. “Weichi, I still have a few words to say to her. Go wait for me by the elevator first.”
Upon hearing this, Yu Kunian’s eyebrows arched slightly. She hoped Song Wenzhi wasn’t planning on sharing a home with Xia Weichi. Her Alpha instincts sensed a crisis; facing another Alpha triggered a sense of rejection. Yu Kunian subconsciously wanted Xia Weichi to stay away from Song Wenzhi.
However, Xia Weichi and Song Wenzhi had many years of friendship. If she acted rashly now, it would only push Song Wenzhi away. Yu Kunian suppressed her emotions and watched Xia Weichi leave with a feigned calmness as the latter said “Alright.”
With a faint smile, Xia Weichi cast a final, ambiguous glance at Yu Kunian before turning to walk away. Song Wenzhi watched Xia Weichi’s retreating figure and said, “I didn’t expect Weichi to be back so early, so I couldn’t introduce you in advance. She is a childhood friend of mine and doesn’t often stay in Lihua City. She is a very professional doctor; perhaps if Zhaoming Biotech has any issues in the future, you could seek her out.”
“That likely won’t be necessary.” It was improbable that Yu Kunian would seek Xia Weichi’s help. “The company’s professional team is sufficient.”
Song Wenzhi gripped Yu Kunian’s hand tightly. She leaned in closer, trying to discern Yu Kunian’s expression in the dim light. “Yu Kunian, your spirits are a bit low.”
It wasn’t a question, but an assertion.
Yu Kunian lowered her eyes. Her amber pupils darkened slightly in the absence of streetlights, but upon closer inspection, they held a few hints of warm laughter. Song Wenzhi wanted to speak again, but she was suddenly pulled close as the Alpha’s hand tightened around her waist. Yu Kunian’s voice sounded in her ear.
“Zhizhi, when another Alpha suddenly appears by your side, as your girlfriend, I will naturally be affected.”
Hearing Yu Kunian say this, Song Wenzhi seemed to realize the Alpha’s concern. She wanted to explain immediately, but Yu Kunian interrupted her: “But I know you are just good friends, so it’s alright.”
Song Wenzhi met Yu Kunian’s gaze. “I don’t have many friends; Weichi is one of them.” Perhaps most people thought that as an unmarried Alpha constantly by her side, Xia Weichi represented their shared future, but Xia Weichi really was just her best friend—one of the very few she had.
Yu Kunian said, “I understand.”
The Alpha embraced Song Wenzhi. She wouldn’t target Xia Weichi; as she had thought before, if they hadn’t gotten together after all those years, they wouldn’t have a chance in the future either. Yu Kunian believed in herself; she would marry Song Wenzhi. She didn’t consider Xia Weichi a threat, so as long as Xia Weichi didn’t interfere or cause trouble, Yu Kunian naturally wouldn’t do anything.
“Then you…”
Before she could finish, Yu Kunian cupped her cheeks and left a shallow kiss on the Omega’s forehead. The Alpha smiled, appearing truly unbothered. “It’s late, girlfriend. Get some rest. See you tomorrow.”
Yu Kunian only needed Song Wenzhi to choose her.
Song Wenzhi hesitated, but since Yu Kunian had said so, she didn’t speak further. She nodded and watched Yu Kunian leave. Only when the Alpha’s figure was out of sight did Song Wenzhi turn to enter the apartment building and take the elevator up with Xia Weichi.
“Xiaozhi, are you sure you’ve thought this through?” Xia Weichi asked her before the elevator arrived, even though she had asked this once before.
Song Wenzhi didn’t answer immediately. She simply lowered her eyes, Yu Kunian’s face appearing in her mind. The Alpha’s smile seemed branded onto her heart. She had considered this deeply beforehand; the Omega had always been cautious regarding her choices.
The elevator stopped and opened with a “ding.”
Song Wenzhi stepped forward first, her voice soft but firm: “I am sure.”
Xia Weichi’s expression froze for a moment. She followed Song Wenzhi out and let out a soft sigh. “Xiaozhi, do you understand the Yu family?”
Song Wenzhi paused while opening the door. Her fingertips turned slightly white from the unconscious pressure as she silently pondered Xia Weichi’s question.
“I know their family situation.” But the Omega couldn’t claim to “understand” them.
After saying this, Song Wenzhi pushed the door open and invited Xia Weichi in, turning on the lights as she closed the door. Xia Weichi sat on the sofa and pulled a lifestyle interview magazine from her bag, turning to the page regarding an interview with Yu Dai.
“Commissioner Yu is already a highly respected leader in the Committee. She once said that whoever marries her child must either be in business or serve on the Committee.” Xia Weichi handed it to Song Wenzhi to see. “Xiaozhi, Commissioner Yu is a person who always means what she says and does not allow anyone to defy her will. She is forceful, and her Omega, Yang Jin, is not easy to talk to either. If you are with Yu Kunian, I worry you will be bullied.”
Xia Weichi had also checked the background of Yu Kunian’s family in advance. She didn’t care what Yu Kunian was like; at the very least, Song Wenzhi entering the Yu family was not a good choice. People like Yu Dai and Yang Jin would not be satisfied with Song Wenzhi—unless Yu Kunian could persuade them, which was clearly unlikely.
“Weichi, that won’t happen,” Song Wenzhi countered, because she believed in Yu Kunian.
Xia Weichi countered, “What do you think Yu Kunian can do when faced with a conflict between you and Commissioner Yu?”
Xia Weichi didn’t believe Yu Kunian would make a scene with her family for Song Wenzhi. Yu Dai and Yang Jin provided Yu Kunian with convenience; as a businesswoman, Yu Kunian was best at weighing pros and cons, and she was ruthless enough.
“Weichi, why must there be a conflict?” Song Wenzhi was puzzled by Xia Weichi’s words. “Aren’t you being too pessimistic?”
She was willing to believe Yu Kunian would handle things reasonably. Before Yu Kunian spoke up herself, she didn’t want to live in constant anxiety because of these baseless speculations.
Xia Weichi stopped talking and took back the magazine. Before returning, she had considered all possibilities and still felt there were risks. What Song Wenzhi said wasn’t without reason; she always analyzed a lot, yet she felt these suspicions weren’t entirely groundless.
“Weichi, since the last time, I haven’t had another pheromone loss of control,” Song Wenzhi added. “I think Yu Kunian is very good.”
Her pheromones chose Yu Kunian’s pheromones.
She, likewise, chose Yu Kunian.
Xia Weichi frowned, becoming even more worried. “Xiaozhi, your glands have no backup plan, unlike Yu Kunian’s. You must be certain whether that Alpha is sincere.”
Song Wenzhi said without hesitation, “I am already certain.”
Xia Weichi naturally had nothing left to say. She looked at Song Wenzhi, hesitating to speak, but finally just managed a smile and nodded. “If that’s the case, then fine.”
She hoped Yu Kunian really was the best choice for Song Wenzhi. Xia Weichi lowered her eyes in thought; however, she would still prepare a safety net for Song Wenzhi, hoping it would never be needed.
Seeing that she was no longer talking about the Yu family, Song Wenzhi asked, “You rushed back so suddenly—how many days are you staying? Won’t it affect your medical project?”
“About two weeks. It won’t be an issue.” Xia Weichi took out her phone and clicked on an email to show Song Wenzhi. “I received a sudden invitation from the government to participate in a compliance test for a new technology. I looked it over on the plane; this new CPP technology is highly viable. If it can pass medical safety standards, it will be a major breakthrough for pharmaceutical research.”
Xia Weichi took this very seriously. To her, CPP technology might offer new opportunities for the medical industry, so her return to Lihua City was also to study this technology. She heard that the R&D team was composed of elites and that the person in charge spared no expense for research. If it weren’t for confidentiality protocols, she wouldn’t be able to find out who these researchers were; otherwise, she would really want to meet the person in charge.
Song Wenzhi didn’t ask much more. Xia Weichi often received similar invitations, and for that international Omega aid program, Xia Weichi was always flying between domestic and international locations. She wouldn’t interfere too much.
Xia Weichi put her phone back in her pocket. She didn’t even drink any water before standing up. “Alright, since I’ve seen you and said what I needed to say, I won’t stay long. Xiaozhi, get some rest. I’ll come pick you up tomorrow to go out for a bit.”
Song Wenzhi asked, “At what time?”
“Not sure. I’ll tell you in advance tomorrow.” Xia Weichi’s schedule was never exact; her previous shopping trips with Song Wenzhi were always decided on a whim. She was used to it, though she hadn’t considered that Song Wenzhi’s schedule now included Yu Kunian.
Song Wenzhi thought for a moment before responding, “I understand.”
Xia Weichi checked Song Wenzhi’s glands again to ensure there were no abnormalities before saying she was leaving. Xia Weichi didn’t need to be seen out; she familiarly closed the door for Song Wenzhi and turned toward the elevator. The sound-activated lights in the hallway flickered on. As Xia Weichi walked away, she answered a sudden phone call just as she turned the corner.
As the elevator doors slowly closed, Xia Weichi’s expression remained unchanged. After the caller finished speaking, she merely nudged her glasses up. The smile in her eyes gradually vanished as she said slowly:
“Reporting her own marriage partner’s company… This President Yu certainly has quite the methods.”
