- Chapter 47 - Fuguang Institute (17) — "Me? Is That an Enticing Condition...?"
“Xiao Ba.”
His clothes were completely soaked. Su Xi loathed the feeling. He called out to the System in his mind while pulling a dagger from his storage slot. The sharp silver blade gleamed. He slashed viciously at the tentacle nearest him. Since nothing in the Fuguang Institute was a “normal” creature, he had to exert massive force just to puncture a hole. Deep black ink sprayed out instantly.
The octopus subject recoiled in pain and released its grip. Su Xi fell heavily to the floor, but he didn’t stop to cry out in pain; he scrambled up and bolted through the corridor, leaning against the wall for support.
He caught sight of an open stairwell in his peripheral vision. Ensuring there were no strange noises inside, he staggered in. He was in a pathetic state covered in transparent slime and black ink, his white lab coat ruined and clinging to him.
Su Xi sat on the stairs, gasping for air. He stared at the dagger in his hand, a flicker of strange emotion in his eyes. Suddenly, a pair of black boots appeared in his field of vision. He looked up and met a pair of deep blue eyes.
“So it’s you,” he sneered, tilting his head. “Are you here to seek revenge for your kin?”
A04’s brow twitched, his expression unreadable. He knelt in front of Su Xi, reached out to wipe a smudge from the man’s cheek, and whispered, “How could I? If I’m seeking revenge, it’s for you. After all, you are my supervisor.”
Seeing A04 looking so neat and tidy while he was a mess, Su Xi felt a surge of irritation. He wiped his slime-covered hands onto A04’s clean clothes. He let out a light laugh, the mole at the corner of his eye seemingly coming to life.
“Then go deal with it. I don’t like those things,” Su Xi coaxed, his voice laced with an alluring temptress quality.
“Oh?” A04 didn’t move immediately. He stared at Su Xi for a long beat. “Aside from Mephisto, have you seen anyone else?”
“Yes.” Su Xi saw no point in lying. Since A04 was asking, he already knew. The question was merely a formality.
“If I help you, what’s in it for me?”
A04 leaned in toward Su Xi’s neck, greedily inhaling the faint scent of orchids, his blue eyes darkening. He started to pull away, but Su Xi looped his arms around his neck, pulling him back. Faced with a visage so close to his own, A04 froze. Su Xi’s long lashes trembled as he leaned in and pressed a soft, fleeting kiss to the corner of A04’s mouth.
Su Xi’s body was shivering slightly, and his anxiety was starting to spiral, but he feigned a calm voice: “Me. Is that an enticing condition?”
“…” A04’s breath hitched. His voice dropped to a husky rasp. “Yes.”
“Then first, clear the obstacles on this floor for me. I want to go back to my room and take a shower.” Su Xi’s eyes looked as if they were rimmed with rouge. When he looked up, his gaze was shimmering and flirtatious, intense enough to hook a man’s soul.
He had started by asking for one subject to be handled, but now he had changed the demand to an entire floor. A04 didn’t get angry; instead, he took off his leather jacket, draped it over Su Xi’s shoulders, and turned to leave.
Inside the System space, 1368 was flabbergasted. “Host, tell me the truth… do you know how to cast love spells?”
“I don’t know any spells. Didn’t you guys give me this special constitution?”
The moment the door closed, Su Xi’s face returned to a mask of calm. His black eyes were indifferent, as if the person who had just acted so weak and seductive didn’t exist. “A04, Mephisto, Xiao Yangyao, and that Uranus… with so many people, there must be one who will be obediently useful to me.”
A04, Mephisto, and Xiao Yangyao, all wanted him. As for Uranus, Su Xi didn’t understand him yet.
He decided to go out and try his luck. The commotion he had made with the octopus was loud; if anyone had heard it, they would surely come to investigate.
He took off A04’s jacket and tossed it onto a trash can by the stairwell. He turned and headed downstairs. In the dim corners, his grip on the dagger was so tight his knuckles were white. When the air began to fill with a foul stench, he knew he had reached his destination.
“Host, didn’t you say you were going to shower? Are you going to see the mirror like this?” 1368 asked, adding, “Do you need me to exchange for a cleaning item?”
“No. I want him to see this. Where’s my strawberry cake?” Su Xi paused briefly. After retrieving the cake from his inventory, he headed toward the storage room from his memory. He had seen on the monitors that most of the subjects from the second basement had surged upstairs, so the path was relatively clear.
He pushed the door open, carrying the exquisitely packaged cake to the mirror. Before he could call out, a hand grabbed his wrist and pulled him into the Mirror World. It was quiet and beautiful here, a paradise seemingly untouched by the chaos outside.
“You…”
The boy, “Little Mirror,” looked at him with shock. He seemed entirely unaware of the uprising in the Institute. His youthful, yet undeniably handsome face was full of bewilderment. “How did you end up like this?”
Su Xi was covered in filth, save for his clean right hand, which held the cake box. The strawberry cake inside was beautifully designed, emitting an enticing, sweet cream aroma.
Su Xi acted as if nothing were wrong and held the box out. “Here. The cake you said you wanted to eat.”
Seeing that Little Mirror was still in a daze, Su Xi chuckled. He stuffed the box into the boy’s hands and turned to leave. Unexpectedly, the boy tossed the cake aside and lunged forward to hug him.
The child only came up to his waist. He felt warm, and he didn’t seem to care that Su Xi was covered in grime. He clung to Su Xi’s waist with a grip so tight it suggested he was terrified Su Xi would vanish if he let go.
“What’s wrong?” Su Xi reached out to ruffle the boy’s hair but caught himself at the last second.
“How did you get yourself into such a mess?” Little Mirror’s voice was as soft as a breeze.
Su Xi didn’t catch the words clearly. He couldn’t shake the boy off and was afraid of accidentally hurting him, so he simply let himself be held. Eventually, the boy let go, but he kept a firm grip on Su Xi’s sleeve.
Looking at the discarded cake with its collapsed frosting, Su Xi found it a bit funny. “Even if you don’t eat it, you shouldn’t waste it, Little Mirror. We should cherish food.”
After all, that cake had cost him 3,000 points.
“Do you want to shower first?” Little Mirror didn’t answer. Instead, he led Su Xi deeper into the white void. Suddenly, a door appeared. Inside was a fully equipped, modern bathroom, complete with a cart stocked with various scented soaps and gels.
“Brother, can I call you that?” The boy blinked, his eyes full of hope.
Su Xi wasn’t going to argue with a child over a title. He nodded in agreement. “Then go outside. I’m going to rinse off.”
“Can’t I stay and watch?” Little Mirror’s grey eyes were full of confusion.
Su Xi’s ears flushed. He coughed and shook his head. “Of course not.”
“But if I’m not here, Brother won’t be able to find the door to get out later.”
Thinking Su Xi was just shy, Little Mirror smiled. “I’ll turn around. I promise not to peek. Are you still shy even though you’re a grown-up? Mom… we’re both boys. Is there anything different about us?”
That’s true, Su Xi thought. Both male, same equipment. He gave a soft hum of approval and turned to unbutton his shirt.
The hot water from the shower head created a wall of steam, blurring his vision. He had been so uncomfortable from the slime that he washed himself with extreme focus. He didn’t notice when the person behind him turned around.
Little Mirror or more accurately, Uranus in his juvenile form used the cover of the mist to stare unabashedly at Su Xi. His smooth skin was flushed pink. Above his long, straight legs sat a flexible, slender waist. Water droplets slid down his back. Aside from the scent of the soap, what attracted Uranus most was the intermittent, haunting fragrance of orchids.
“Su Xi…” he murmured softly. Why don’t you make a wish to me?
If he just made a wish, he could have anything. What did A04, Xiao Yangyao, or that merman matter?
Su Xi hadn’t eaten much all day. The physical exertion combined with the heat made his blood sugar drop. He leaned against the wall to steady himself. He glanced at Little Mirror’s back; was it his imagination, or did the boy look taller? But how is that possible?
He shook his head to clear it. After finished, he realized he didn’t have clean clothes. Since Little Mirror was right there, he couldn’t explain how a set of clothes might suddenly appear out of thin air.
“What’s wrong, Big Brother?”
Sensing the water had stopped and the mist was clearing, Little Mirror grew worried when there was no movement. He turned to check, only to have a pair of wet hands suddenly cover his eyes. Darkness fell instantly. His instinct was to resist, but he felt the warmth radiating from Su Xi and simply clenched his fists.
“Little Mirror, I don’t have a change of clothes. Can you find me a set? Please?” Su Xi kept the boy’s eyes covered. He had almost been seen naked; even if it was just a kid, it felt wrong.
“Okay…” Little Mirror reached out, squeezed Su Xi’s hand, and then ran out of the room without looking back.
“And he said I wouldn’t be able to find the door if he left. He was definitely lying to me,” Su Xi sighed, looking at the door that was still very much there. He waited a few minutes, shivering slightly as the room cooled, until Little Mirror ran back in clutching a pile of clothes. The oversized garments almost hid the boy’s face.
Su Xi took the clothes but didn’t dress immediately. Meeting Little Mirror’s gaze, he said, “Turn around.”
The boy pouted, upset that Su Xi was still being cautious despite his good behavior, but he obeyed.
Su Xi dressed as fast as possible. Looking in the mirror, he saw himself in a clearly ill-fitting shirt and trousers. He rolled up the cuffs so he wouldn’t trip.
“Okay.” He fastened the top button. His face was flushed and his lips were a deep red, looking exactly as if he had just been thoroughly “loved.”
The moment Little Mirror turned back, his eyes sparked with delight. He quickly hid the emotion and lunged forward to hug the fresh, soft Su Xi. He buried his head in Su Xi’s side and mumbled, “Brother, you smell so good.”
Su Xi decided his initial impression of Little Mirror was too narrow. Where was the arrogant little brat from their first meeting? Now he was just a clingy little brother. Su Xi smiled and ruffled the boy’s hair, though he felt a slight, ticklish sensation at his waist.
